@@BeowulfNorther That is the stupidest take on Minecraft ever. Sure mods make the game more expansive but vanilla Minecraft is not dull. It’s more than just “pigs and potions”. His sub 15 minute times are pretty terrible when compared to the sub 2 minutes of the top set seed speedrun.
It's true though, if Super Nintendo or older was part of your childhood, nobody in your age group gave a fuck if you could beat Resident Evil 1 in under an hour, complete Megaman X without taking any damage, or have an 8.0 Kill/death ratio in CS 1.6 aside from the nerds. @@anecro - I agree with you, but to clarify, he actually didn’t start speedrunning as a whole for one girl. It’s just the reason he gave for his first initial run that was caught. That was the one where he apologized for the fake leaving the nether WR, but insisted that his other runs were legit. The entire context is that he was apparently on call with her, she left to get toast, and in that time he found a really good seed and then accidentally threw it. When she got back he lied to her and told her that he didn’t get enough pearls because he didn’t want to look stupid. She asked if he was gonna upload it anyways, and at that point he decided to fully commit to the lie to impress her. Her side of the convo was also confirmed by her, so he’s not making anything up here. He’s just dumb as hell. In his newest apology for all of his runs (sans an 11 minute run that he insists is real but says he won’t verify), this is the reason he gives: “My reasoning for cheating these runs is quite long, and it involves a lot of personal/IRL reasons that I rather not get into. The portal location choices were really bananas. I can imagine running a bit before placing the portal so that you're at a better distance for the stronghold, so not placing it immediately isn't too suspicious. But climbing back up onto the fortress? He really couldn't ad lib at that point?
With most cheaters it's almost embarrassing how little thought they put into it. The only way this guy gets caught is if he does something super weird, so if something goes terribly wrong all you have to do is accept it, maybe play it out for real, maybe just reset no worries. Same with Dream, no one cares about getting lucky once, but leaving on your drop rate boosts for hours of stream time means there is a lot of data letting them get caught. Out of curiosity, does anyone do "bad seed" runs, or otherwise pick out particular seeds (other than "optimal known seed") for different flavors of run? Or maybe have multiple runners race the same, unknown seed?
Yeah, it seems to me that all he had to do was not claim his runs were blind, and his times would stand, because there was otherwise no actual cheating in game, and video edit was to remove the two frames that showed him setting his seed.
Cheaters are not legends and do not go to leaderboard heaven. That's the most scathing thing imho. I think I could live with being a criminal, but not if I am not a legend anymore.
Going frame by frame during the clicking section shows that the "Data Packs" option is highlighted for one frame, just before the extra clicks and the world loading. Conveniently, that option is RIGHT ABOVE the "More World Options" button where, as mentioned in the video, is where a selected seed can be inputted.
I'm always fascinated by that perfect intersection between being clever enough to do something manipulative but then being a fucking idiot and not thinking one more step ahead about how it's gonna look. I love these people.
Idk, just imagine how many cheaters there are who go uncaught. Imagine, would flowbee have been caught if he made the times he achieved less extreme and acted a bit better?
I think it was a old Mario video on this channel where the guy only got caught because he bragged about his old record from like 15 years prior, so they they verified it, and it was spliced.
@@IrvineTheHunter Minecraft speedrunning community is pretty huge. And if you get a top time, it is expected that run is going to get heavily looked at due to the growing skepticism made by the many cheated runs. Because there are so many variables that go into a Minecraft run, it's a great thing to know that there are a ton of skeptical people who are going to examine runs from top to bottom to make sure the integrity of legit top times is intact.
I mean, that's a thing people do. The natural response for people typically when they get caught doing something wrong is to try and salvage everything they can from the situation, which while understandable, should probably be a behavior that's more commonly taught against while people are still children.
The saddest part about people splicing runs together is that it gives a really bad reputation to anyone doing a segmented speedrun even if they are clearly marking it as segmented providing a lot of evidence showing that it is meant to be a segmented speedrun and not even trying to say it's all one segmented. I remember seeing examples of when someone could do a proper segmented run provide all the info about when each segment was done how it was done list it as a segmented run know it wasn't going to be accepted to the leaderboard but still at the very least assemble it into one video so people can view it But considering the amount of times people want to use that to cheat now people tend to stay away from even doing segmented style speedruns even if it is for practice sometimes.
I personally think that the decline in popularity for segmented runs has more to do with single segment runs being seen as more skillful because it's all done consecutively.
@@eyeballqueenofrats Valid point, I'll say that segmented runs are a great way to practice some longer speedruns before doing them in a single segment. I mean would you want to practice anything that's over 5 hours in one go just to practice the later parts of the run or practice them them in segments. Longer runs are worth practicing in segments since you can set up different saves to represent the different ways you might get to a particular part in a single segment run.
The thing about the 2 extra clicks in the macro just amazes me, love that there's experts who can pick up on these subtleties, really incredible stuff. So pathetic that he still tried to claim his other runs were valid after he was caught the first time. Some people are so sad. You have achieved absolutely nothing if you cheat to gain it, you can never truly be the best, no matter what it may say on a leaderboard, surprised these people don't seem to grasp or care about that.

Sometimes i don’t understand why you’d say some cheated runs are actually legit when you confess about one particular run, like everyone is now reeeaaally suspicious of those now so at that you might as well admit it all. ...not that it fully matters since all runs you submitted are terminated if you’re caught cheating, but still.
The only respectable thing to do is to say "Yes, I am a cheater. I am sorry. Goodbye." and leave the community. If it truly is a one-off, maybe you can redeem yourself, but if you've got a history of submitting faked runs just give up, dude, it's over.
@@zackestin1368 Yep. Newsflash, coming clean _after_ you're caught always just makes you look hella suspicious. Just as denying everything in the face of evidence makes you look super sus. When you're in that situation, you're fucked. Hence the old cheaters adage of "don't get caught" The best you can hope for in such situations is mercy. I don't get speedrun cheaters. Community: "This run is cheated." Cheater: "True, but everything else is legit." You KNOW they're going to start digging into those. Admit to it outright and your punishment might not be as severe and most will probably forgive you over time
They can be pathological liers, in that case they just cannot get out of their own web of lies, even is they get caught, they just make bigger webs and believe it will hold. And many times it will hold, if not checked by very strict ways or such, sometimes even then they will get defenders that will even take the blame if possible. Or just they know that it is their income, if they admit everything was a lie, they may lose all of their income, so they hope they can keep some part of it.
Their logic is probably that there's nothing to lose at that point. People already think they're a cheater and liar, so why not at least see if you can get away with some of it? They might as well roll the die. There's that one guy who got talked cheating in other games, but everyone decided he didn't cheat in in this latest game, as they couldn't find any evidence he cheated (even though he wouldn't do as they asked and show the direct connection of the console to the TV). I'm not saying he did cheat, but it shows that judges are willing to consider the idea you didn't cheat, even if they catch you cheating in other runs. You've already been outed as as liar and cheater, so the worse case is that you'll be outed as even more of a liar and cheater. But the best case is that one of your cheated runs sneaks by. I just love that these people are so adamant that they didn't cheat only because they think their cheats are impossible to find (or no one would put in the effort to find them). I commented it on Wirtual's video but the thing that pisses me off the most is the BALLS on Riolu to pull the friend card. He calls out Wirtual and others for turning on their friend. But not once did he show his friends the respect they deserved by coming clean.
The funny thing is that if he was that committed to faking it, he could have removed the obnoxious dancing gif from the bottom right and pretend to be reacting to the ambience sounds.
Maybe at some point, people will realize that they won't get away with cheating and will simply just stop doing it, I know that's wishful thinking though...
Eh. There's always that one outlier that goes for years without being caught- and I think there's another, different sort of glory to successfully tricking a group of people. Sure, it's bad, but there's still something impressive about it- as long as you admit it in the end, of course.
The more popular speedrunning gets, the less likely that'll be to happen. Besides, there are many cases of even the highest rated players cheating and not getting caught for a very long time. The chase for clout and gaming cred is too great for most, especially after months of time sunk into a single game that still only leads to mediocre times. It's a harsh reality of speedrunning that won't fade anytime soon

The saddest part about people splicing runs together is that it gives a really bad reputation to anyone doing a segmented speedrun even if they are clearly marking it as segmented providing a lot of evidence showing that it is meant to be a segmented speedrun and not even trying to say it's all one segmented.
I remember seeing examples of when someone could do a proper segmented run provide all the info about when each segment was done how it was done list it as a segmented run know it wasn't going to be accepted to the leaderboard but still at the very least assemble it into one video so people can view it
But considering the amount of times people want to use that to cheat now people tend to stay away from even doing segmented style speedruns even if it is for practice sometimes.
I personally think that the decline in popularity for segmented runs has more to do with single segment runs being seen as more skillful because it's all done consecutively.
@@eyeballqueenofrats Valid point, I'll say that segmented runs are a great way to practice some longer speedruns before doing them in a single segment.
I mean would you want to practice anything that's over 5 hours in one go just to practice the later parts of the run or practice them them in segments. but, can we talk about the leaderboards themselves allowing the goddamn hitbox highlighting and all that crazy f3 nonsense including whatever that pie-chart thing is in runs?!! wtf! how is that not cheating? it is literally a rule that WAS on the leaderboard requirements just a few years ago. you could not use any f3 nonsense. at all, full stop, not one frame of f3 info could apear on screen or your run WAS invalid. now they let you do the entire run using it.
@@tommytomthms5 it is what it is
@@tommytomthms5 Pretty sure it's harder to do simpler cheats with the f3 information displayed. Not sure about the wireframes tbh, but if the community decided they wanted this stuff allowed, then they wanted it allowed. That's the nice thing about the speedrunning communities, they get to decide their own rules.
All the videos proving dream cheated were some of the most entertaining videos I've ever watched
@@tommytomthms5 i dont think it can be considered cheating since it is a feature after all. Not even a bug or glitch it is an _intentional_ feature. If you don't like f3 then don't use it but dont force other people to not use it lol. You have world record without f3? Impressive! But don't force other people to stop using f3.
AS a legend himself said. Speedrunners dont cheat to get a faster time, they often cheat to get a better time faster.
That is applicable to people that are actually good, Flowbee has terrible mechanics and its obvious even to people like me that dont run the game. He looks incredibly slow with his aim and makes a ton of sloppy mistakes
Stop trying to justify it, it's cheating and bad sportsmanship and pretty deplorable, cheating in a game lol
@@phutureproof ...he isn't? he just quoted karl on *why* people cheat to begin with.

Yeah, that's the way with all laws really. The justice system is built of the bullet holes of the past, and of the people with guns trying to put more bullet holes in it

The two categories are:
Ones an idiot like me can spot : Ones that need Karl.
😂
Karl is more like the announcer, he's not the one that caught them. That work is usually done by the game's community, as is the case here
Yup Karl doesn't Speedrun most of these games but he speaks with those that do and gets an understanding to show it for casual viewers. He's really good. And I am glad I found him learned a lot about soeedrunning communities
@@BigDBrian anyways we cannot deny that he does an amazing job announcing all of these kind of stuff, putting it simple and entertaining for casual viewers
Light the Karl-Signal!
"So why did you become a speedrunner?"
"It's always been a Dream of mine"
Was that an intended pun?
He always calls his fans legends but nobody calls him a legend. I personally now want to call you, Karl Jobst, an absolute legend for making these videos and generally being an awesome person.
Underrated comment.
Many can simply call someone else a legend. Karl is a man who calls you a legend and suddenly you feel your day improve. You **feel** like a legend.
List of absolute legends:
1: Karl Jobst
2: His viewers
but what if Billy Mitchell is a viewer??? :0
@@M0D776 he's still a legend... just not in the right way
The thing is: If he just said this was a set seed speedrun, he wouldn't have been called a cheater because it would be telling the truth.
I don't get speedrun cheaters.
Community: "This run is cheated."
Cheater: "True, but everything else is legit."
You KNOW they're going to start digging into those. Admit to it outright and your punishment might not be as severe and most will probably forgive you over time
eh, i'm sure it worked for someone at some point. it really just depends on how well you cheated. flowbee missed a few critical steps :P
It's a low chance, but not 0%.
Why would there be anything wrong with cheating? It's only a game, and if you find out, what about it? Your ego must by pretty high to think people give a shit about your forgiveness.
@@KevinLGlory ask any who caught doping if the it is only a game defense ever worked? It's great to see "name and shame" work so decisively against cheaters. As a foreigner to minecraft I have huge respect for their community. Well done every one.

I just love that these people are so adamant that they didn't cheat only because they think their cheats are impossible to find (or no one would put in the effort to find them). You're going to a community who ritualistically and obsessively digs out every detail of a game, no matter how minute, just to shave off fractions of a second, and you expect them to *not* look at your suspicious gameplay with more than a cursory glance? I don't know if it's stupidity or arrogance that gets people to think they'll get a cheated run past real scrutiny.
The cheater should've wrote a pastebin apology at 4am in the bathtub, saying that she "accidentally" used some illegal mods. Or better yet, hire a Harvard astrophysicist to defend herself
*Or she can do both🙃*
It’s a guy.
The thing is that Dream accidentally used mods without a quotation mark and didn't know be was cheating until just before his apology. He hired a Harvard astrophysicist because he believed he was legit
@@kets4443 I still don't believe that he didn't know. Put yourself in a similar situation:
You are playing dice and you get double sixes 9 out of 10 throws, and someone acuses you of using loaded dice. Then you remember that you used to play with loaded dice in a casual game with friends and that they look a lot like the dice you're using now.
But, instead of investigating the possibility that you may have mixed up the dice, you start to accuse your accuser of clout chasing, and don't rein in your rabid fanbase when they start attacking and issuing death threats to you accuser.
That means you're either very clearly lying about believing you were not using loaded dice and tried to discredit the accusers in order to avoid a more through investigation, or you're so self absorbed and arrogant that the possibility that you made an honest mistake is so absurd to you that you never really consider it, and think you're completely justified in attacking everyone who dares suggest otherwise.
Either way, you're a piece of shit, so it doesn't really matter, no?
Or or, they can talk about how they delayed posting the run because they wanted to "fix their upload schedule"

I'm pretty sure at this point Karl could make a cheated speedrun so perfectly done there wouldn't be a single cough up in it
The absolute legend that is Karl has enough integrity, he could start cheating everything from the get-go in second gear and no one would ever suspect him. He'd then make a video about it a day later and tell everyone else how to detect the method of cheating that was used.
We really should get the speedrunning community involved in unsolved murders. Hell of an untapped detective resource.

I love your videos where the cheaters were caught because of a few skilled players with deep inside knowledge are able to notice things. The "two extra clicks" thing blew my mind.
This video made me laugh.
"Look at all these subtle things that only the elite of the elite could have caught!"
Also
"Yeah, he kinda got caught because he dragged himself through wet cement and was standing at the end of the trail..."
Key point that cheaters should have in mind after being exposed: "admittal" is not a word.
It's a word, it's just not an officially supported word. Basically the agreement is that it's the same as an admission by definition.
I'm going to cheat on a speed run just so I can be busted by Karl Jobst.
I reckon that would make me an absolute legend
At least he admitted it though.
Yes, we're still waiting riolu...
I commented it on Wirtual's video but the thing that pisses me off the most is the BALLS on Riolu to pull the friend card. He calls out Wirtual and others for turning on their friend. But not once did he show his friends the respect they deserved by coming clean.

Maybe at some point, people will realize that they won't get away with cheating and will simply just stop doing it, I know that's wishful thinking though...
People always get away with cheating, in fact there are probably cheaters in the top 100 rsg runs right now. they just haven’t been caught yet
Eh. There's always that one outlier that goes for years without being caught- and I think there's another, different sort of glory to successfully tricking a group of people. Sure, it's bad, but there's still something impressive about it- as long as you admit it in the end, of course.
You only catch the bad ones. It's just too easy to do.
Then it wouldn't be interesting.
Fun fact: ALL Olympic athletes cheat. ALL of them, bar none, no exceptions.
I cannot think of a sadder combination of human traits than 'cheating simping speedrunner'.
I was dumbfounded at the lava portal... Didn't build it at his feet, fumbled into lava, then Blue Scadoo'd into a Stronghold and called it luck... Sure, dude...
I'm impressed by the process people are going through to investigate and keep the integrity of these speedruns legit.
My subscriptions are slowly accumulating a monotone voiced funny man for every type of content. Between Karl and Mitten Squad I got speedruns and challenge runs covered.
I really enjoy the videos where they calculate possibilities of a run being real or faked. As more instances of cheaters are found I wonder for top players of respective communities if anyone has any statistics of people who have been found of wrong doing and if there were any trends. Might just be myself interested in such weird things but would be an interesting video. For example I imagine there might be a correlation between how quickly someone climbs the ranking and how likely they might be a cheater.
As always Karl is an absolute legend!
11:48 Karl goes through all this analysis to explain hidden tells of cheating for 12 minutes, and then shows a clip where he is super obviously cheating. Love it 😘
