DAN I CAN TUNE A SYSTEM BY EAR, AND MAKE IT SOUND AS GOOD AS YOU CAN WITH THE TOOLS.
most installers try to set up a system all connected, you cant do that.
You've got to isolate each componet
And tune them by ear untill your just above the noise threshold using the same disk on every system Alpine had a disk years ago my rep gave me I still use it today to tune systems.
I did high end car audio for 17 years in retail as an installer.
Granted my 61 year old ears don't work as well anymore I still know what distortion is. Im also whats called an audiophile with home systems.
This is my reason Alpine needs to pull its brand out of best buy, you walk into a best buy and the kid salesman cranked the music up full blast the subwoofers are falling on there ass the tweeters sound like they are 3500 dgr F and launched out the gap.
He's pushing the woofer into clipping
And this 75 watt woofer is getting 450 peak power from an amp thats about to catch fire. The total system is starved for 12 volts becuse they hooked it up with 18ga speaker wire on the power side of the amp. And the power supply they are using was not rated for the output its being asked to do.
And if you ask them to recommend a pair of subs they will sell you 2 4 ohm subs wired in stereo.
Insted of 2 8 ohm subs in series on a bridged amp @a 4 ohm load or 2 4 ohm subs on a mono amp that can run @ 2 ohms.
This is why JL audio made the slash series amps Jeff Scoon developed.
You can run in 8ohm down to 2 ohms.
Becuse the kids at best buy dont know shit. Not all of them but best buy in a big box store with a lot of locations.
Seriously someone who sells refrigerator to install my car audio system?
The time to move boxes is over, there's a limit on dashes needing to be filled now.

It allows consistent and repeatable results with a variety of setups and equipment. It is also not supposed to be the final tune but the point where you feel comfortable firing it up and listening to it. Your ears should be the final judge every time after driving and listening to various tracks at various volumes.

I don’t know why there dsp don’t do thst for you. The dm-810 does it for you. Ac’s rta also checks clipping, phase and shows your signal before and after the dsp so you don’t need all the other tools. Way I see it it is expensive and takes hours as it is to properly tune a system. Anything that can be automated to help speed the process and save money is a bonus in my book.

      Too much gain/power causes distortion

This video makes me not want to even do the DPS any more ..been tuning by ear for years, 1 midrange speaker at a time. Always sounds amazing, maybe lacking a little but this is too much.

I felt the same way once upon a time when I too first watch all these videos. Now I’m just trying to find a cheap inexpensive audio interface to do further testing and analysis of my equipment and connect to the pc software called REW
