Hi. I am a professional mastering engineer and this channel is by far the best and most accurate information on youtube. I have done tuning in lot of studios, and lately afte sonarworks and trinnov became a standard, the tuning it not always better because people think flat is the best., but then i tell them you need a house curve, they wil not believe you. Thanks for to education the people. They believe more on youtube than that I can tell them 😂
Thanks for this video Nerijus, very helpful. One note I will add is that when using auto eq on full range measurements, it doesn't work well if you include XO filters. So you need to do it in two steps; Step one is to set the XO values in the EQ window (as you did) and then save that predicted response as measurement. Then, open that generated response in the EQ window and run the auto eq. I know this video is old now but maybe this will help someone...
Totally agree with your thought process on lowering or boosting...F it!! As long as you don't go crazy and use common sense. If it doesn't respond to changes, nothing you can do, leave it alone. Thanks for not being a tuning snob and sharing all this, very helpful for someone starting out.
Thanks a lot man for your post. I've watched so many YT videos and no one explained so detailed as you did.I learned a lot and now everything makes sense . Couple days ago I tried to tune my system and sound awful after more than two hours of "tunning". I'll try again when I got some time and I will let you know
Amazing video, simple but on point eq video. Will be doing some eq work once I get a microphone. Keep it up Narijus. Never knew the Helix had so much potential
Another great video. At ~32 minutes in you show the EQ Filter screen in REW and are able to adjust the cross over for the speaker measurements (since the line is a full frequency measurement). Can't seem to find that in the newest version of REW? Just shows the PEQ's and not the cross over filters?
Right now I'm using tape measured time alignment, my center feels to be totally off with EQ (fine without). When I was EQ-ing my system my "Target Level (dB SPL)" was different for each speakers. I guess I shouldn't do it this and that's why my center is off. Should I EQ with same Target Level for each speaker or should I do it same way as I did before however I should do some level setup pass later ?
You should EQ to a target level that best suits the individual responses. After that you need to level match the responses in RTA using channel gain in the DSP. And after all of that adjust by ear if necessary.
Do you have any tips how to find your own target curve ? I did manage to EQ my system but I dont like the result, too much high tones, I would like to have it more "warm" Should I maybe EQ my headphones to find what I like ? Since they should have fairly flat frequency response EQ-ing should be fast and easy.
You can find and personalise your target only by experimenting and trying many of them. And eventually you will find what you like. This is highly subjective.
not too many videos/tutorials in this stuff. One day I will learn to tune my own system. hate having to depend on someone else. do you find that your tune needs to be tweeked when the weather changes from hot to cold cold to hot?
You do an amazing job at giving knowledge cause I'm catching hell with REW and getting the zapco-v 16 setup. I got all the equipment and feel my installation is decent but the getting to the eqing is confusing I wish I could just do it 😕
Thanks for the video. I'm using a zapco dap , with 14 band parameter equaliser. When I apply the auto eq , the text file shows more than 16 eq adjustments... Could you plz help me on this..?
@@RAW-CAt thanks for your reply. The maximum gain adjustment is 10db but when I do the auto eq, it sometimes +20db gains..am I doing something wrong when I set the house curves and target curves..?
Hi.I need your help. I have an Audiocontrol DSP with an integrated amplifier. After I do my eq with REW and save the file I can't load it into my DSP because it doesn't support txt files like your HELIX. Supports only auc(audiocontrol) files which is kind of annoying. Any help is much appreciated
Have tried to flatten my curve with eq. On mid range sounds absolutely terrible comparing to the initial curvy line. Worked fine only on low frequencies.

Great, I found Jazzi's tuning assistant! You are simply the author of the treasure in the car audio industry, the eternal god!

how did it go?
Nice video. I totally did not know about eq to text then import to Helix. Thanks for the heads up on that!
How can I click the "thumbs up" a million times here? Very informative video.
All the lessons I need for tuning my car's audio system are on this channel. Thanks
You made it seem sooo easy. Guess I’m ordering a microphone now. Thanks.
Happy days!

Real great job. Many thanks…

Perfect work again. Five star. 🥇

On the right side under EQ menu select generic and extended.
Did that. But doesn’t change anything on the EQ Filters screen. Says “extended” but no area for filters. Just shows the 1 to 20 available EQs.

Not much help there. The only way is to enter the EQ manually and ask Audiocontrol for new feature inplementation.
Question how do you get peaks or spikes out of your measurements when you eq like if you have a midrange close to a window
Use smoothing😉

Interesting. Does using REW RTA produce better results than using the RTA built into the Helix DSP?
If you know what you are doing, both will yield good results. REW is just like a microscope, you can see much more with it.
do we need to play the pink noise to get the frequency responses 1:24 ? sorry for the noob question
Yes, you play periodic pink noise and measure the frequency response.
Don't u get too much distortion when u boost ? And also if u boost 3 consecutive band then it will lead to clipping !
Hahaha thank you.... I boost the shit out of certain signals if I need too
I HAVE SAME COMPONENT PLZ SHARE YOUR TUNNED DSP FILE
Thank you man. subd.
