I’m a Liverpool fan, and I was a wee 11 year old watching this on the match on LWT with my older brother in London…And watching this now…lts so strange to see that all of the players in this game were british and irish….How times have changed…
I remember this season for all the wrong and painful reasons, there was the Hillsbrough disaster followed by losing the league title on the final day of the season to George Grahams Arsenal. However we kept the tradition going in terms of winning silveware by beating Everton in the FA Cup Final at Wembley that year which was nice. Rushie doing the business for us against the Toffees. As for United, five players in that side would eventually go on and become part of the famous 1992-93 Inaugural Premier League Winning United side. Lee Sharpe, Mark Hughes, Steve Bruce, Brian McClair and the legendary Bryan Robson.
You're welcome. I'm obviously biased, but I didn't think this was that good a game (certainly not the "New year's honours: match of the season" of the video title). Apart from the crazy 7 minutes with all 4 goals, there weren't that many decent chances, and the first half particularly was pretty dull. But I guess the result is really all that matters in these games.
is this United's own release? That'd explain its title. Also, trust me, at this point of our history, this was as good as it got. I remember you went unbeaten for the rest of the season after this; with the exception of that infamous last match.
I remember it being on general release in video shops, but I've just checked the box and it was copyright MUFC. Which I guess explains the title, and why Brian Moore re-recorded the commentary, rather than taking the live ITV version. I know things weren't great for you then, but you usually beat us or at least got a draw!
Was a great game,100 mph and it was our way of dealing with their slick passing game, you can see the difference after Cantona arrived....less of the long ball and kick and rush stuff...but great to watch as you never knew what could happen???

One of the great OT afternoons of the eighties. We pretty much lived off this result for the next two seasons.
What do you mean two seasons, I am still living off it :)
@@Oscarspoem Me too!!! 😂😂😂

Thanks for this. One of my all time favourite matches.

And it was always a pleasure to do so :)
Oh yeah,they're mate.
no scoreline top left, No Chinese scrolling ad boards, no sidekick commentator stating the obvious, one camera
Pretty much the only decent result United got that season. Great scenes in the Stretford End after Hughes's goal.
those 3 goals were great ones, esp for Russell too, with a sparky double.
Brian McLair got the equaliser with what looked like a trademark Sparky finish 😅
@@martinbeeko3481 Yep, it was McClair, whoopsie, my bad, thought it was sparky with the way he finished that equaliser.
Was there. Beardsmore was on fire that day.
Honestly, it looks like a few of the players (on both teams) had been on the ale on new year's eve....
John Aldridge proving that diving wasn't only a European disease back in the day!!
Nasty piece of work, Aldridge. Always was.
Quality player.
Can't believe it ,,,Gaps in the terraces.!!!!
Well played. Mark Hughes played the ball down with his hands. Liverpool didnt do anything to warrant a compliment

Lee Sharpe was some player in his time at United
My 17th birthday..buzzing
what happened to Beardsmore after this? why did his career not really take off at United.
Exciting but the quality is terrible.
Glory Days ,they past me bye Glory Days.!!!!
To think Lvpl could of easily won this if they had of took their chances.
Always the way, Mau-Ure beat us hands down in the 80's
Mark Hughes handled the ball with his hand for the second goal.14>1 Amen
