Arsenal have an uncanny knack of winning the title at significant away grounds. Four of their titles have been won at White Hart Lane, Anfield and Old Trafford.
im a leeds fan for my sins but im a football fan as well, i remember being glued to the telly watching this rooting for arsenal to win it against a liverpool team that had dominated for so long, to go to anfield and get that result was outstanding, george graham produced a team with character organisation and skill, the defence went on to not just be successfull under graham but laid the base for vengas early success at arsenal, venga never seemed to appreciate the importance of a great defence as the base for success the way graham did.

But LFC fans, in my experience, are the most knowledgable football fans I've ever met. they were magnanimous that night and they deserve enormous credit.
Saber It never changed though sadly. Try getting Clive Tyldesley to talk about anything other than “that night in Istanbul/Madrid”, and in Manchester United’s case “that night in Barcelona/Moscow.”
The referees were bought out by Arsenal. Thomas handled the ball as it bounced off Nicol, so the goal doesn't count. Another title stolen from Liverpool. YNWA.
DMS Go & cry into the Steven Gerrard posters on your bedroom wall! “Another title stolen from Liverpool!” That comment is a typical example of exactly why nobody likes Liverpool fans. They’re a bunch of arrogant, biased, deluded, hypocritical, loud mouthed, moaning & self-righteous pricks.
Liverpool at this time were the masters! I've seen great finales in my time Manu and the treble Liverpool 2005 But to me this was the BEST Liverpool made the mistake of sitting back at 0-1 as they could still win the league. BUT..........
As a Gooner it was a great night for us. Going to Anfield to win by two goals or more. Liverpool weren't meant to be intimidating but the Gunners showed weren't scared and we got the two goals we needed. What a night.
Look at all the pass backs.. Its amazing they didn't change that rule sooner. I mean you could basically just keep passing it back to your keeper to pick up constantly and there wouldn't be anything wrong with it other than being throwned upon
Being Arsenal is a fantastic thing, I am Brazilian and I breathe this club every day, my club and roots have a history of a heavy shirt with a lot of class and we are not Nutellas like many out there ... Proud to be a Gooner !!!!! LONDON IS RED 🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴
I remember listening to this on the radio with my mates, we where at McDonalds sitting in the car & one of my friends was a Liverpool supporter. He was in tears at the end of the evening.
What a game it was. Wow, I enjoyed this as if it was live. The game was played even when I was born but you could have seen how I celebrated that Thomas's goal. I was rooting for him and he went on to score the winning goal
Just had a look at the rest of league on Wikipedia. Pretty much unrecognisable in 2020: 3rd N. Forest, 4th Norwich, 5th Derby, 6th Spurs, 7th Coventry, 8th Everton, 9th QPR, 10th Millwall, 11th Man. U., 12th Wimbledon, 13th Southampton, 14th Charlton, 15th Sheff. W., 16th Luton, 17th Villa, 18th Middlesbrough, 19th West Ham, 20th Newcastle.
My late Grandad was a massive Arsenal supporter and use to force me to watch this on VHS every time I went round there as a kid! I have no affiliation with Arsenal at all (Watford fan), but this ending was incredible and eclipses the Aguero moment for me. Don't get me wrong, that was ridiculous, but I feel this moment was the best ever climax to a season. The daunting task of not only having to go to Anfield, but to win by TWO clear goals just couldn't be achieved....or so everyone thought! Amazing.
What was the late great Brian Moore and David Pleat going on about in re of the opening goal Moore thinks the Liverpool player's are kicking off over some non existent handball whilst Pleat thinks it's over an offside..... They were arguing about whether or not Alan Smith has touched the ball before it goes in. ...he clearly did.
I'm not an Arsenal fan, I really don't like them at all, but like most of the UK on that night, because of who you were playing, I watched the game with pals who supported Rangers, Celtic, Hearts, United, and Scum praying for an upset. Everyone of us was celebrating afterwards, as if it was our team that had won. It's without doubt the greatest finish to any top class English season. A. Because it was the closest of all time and involved the top 2. and B. Because the whole country celebrated as one, because in that era we were all sick to death of the boring pass back to the goalkeeper Liverpool tactics and the arrogance of Liverpool supporters! 🤣🤣
As an Arsenal fan, the words "It's up for grabs now" are etched in my mind. But what I came on here to say was, during this lockdown, I sincerely hope we are gonna see this through as unscathed as possible. Although we all love football, we are all in this together and I wish everyone the best.
I'm a Liverpool fan, and I was evelen years old in 1989. And me, my older brother and my man utd fan uncle still remember this like it was yesterday. We were watching this together in my home in London. Arsenal had to win 2-0 at anfield to win the championship on goal difference...Nobody gave arsenal any hope. But i must confess that the FA cup final defeat against Wimbledon the season before was actually still in the back of my mind. Something had to happen in the second half. Smith then of course scored. And that's when me and older brother were beginning to s*** our selves if you like.. Coming into storage time.. me and my older brother thought we've got this.... Then...... 😭... Michael Thomas scored with virtually the last kick off the season... Me and my older brother were stunned. Fergie always said that he wanted to knock us off our perch. But i think that even though we were to win back the championship the following season. That was our last championship win. I actually do think that it was this tragic season and this game that knocked us off our perch. We have never really the same since. I must admit that I hated arsenal for a long time because of this.. 😂... But what i didnt remember was that they threw bunches of flowers into the kop as a mark of respect for the victims of the hillsborough disaster.. So kudos to the arsenal players and fans for that... Since the creation of the FA premier league. We haven't been good enough. Until now of course. This season will be ours, and the championship will come home...ynwa
I remember this night, I went out for a drink because I didn’t think arsenal could win so I wanted to be detached from the game, being a United fan I couldn’t bear to stay tuned to what I thought would be a Liverpool win, driving home that night I put the radio on and heard the full time result, omg I was soo happy, I went out the next night to celebrate 🎉 United have won some great games over the years, in difficult circumstances, but I love this game 🎉🎉🎉 ,
>Need to beat the best team in Europe by 2 clear goals away from home. >Sends Steve Bould out there in the no. 10 shirt. >Gets the job done anyway. George Graham. Genius tactician.
Still brings a tear to my eye now, this game will never be suppased due to being a once in a lifetime league decider, plus also played on a Friday evening, almost unheard-of back in the day. RIP David Rocastle, a true Arsenal legend ❤
I was in a bar restaurant in Phuket. The owner got me a prime seat! Local Thais wanting Liverpool. Second goal was one of the best moments of my life! Drove home signing for sure! Bit drunk but?
After "Hillsborough"...no one gave us a chance, like it was written in the stars for Liverpool...the Afc team handing out flowers at the start was a sign...and the Liverpool players lack of grace in defeat was the icing on the cake...
"...or Liverpool will be champions for the 19th time". I loved Brian Moore but he was wrong on that, to be pedantic it would have been our 18th as we'd only won 17 at the time and won our 18th the following season (89-90)
Not an Arsenal fan, I came here just because I was doing a research about Michael Thomas who was one of the worst players of Benfica's history (Benfica is my team), it's shocking to find out he did this.

But LFC fans, in my experience, are the most knowledgable football fans I've ever met. they were magnanimous that night and they deserve enormous credit.
This commentary is so biased for Liverpool all game. Glad Arsenal won it in the end.
Saber It never changed though sadly. Try getting Clive Tyldesley to talk about anything other than “that night in Istanbul/Madrid”, and in Manchester United’s case “that night in Barcelona/Moscow.”
31 years later Liverpool 1 league title in that time. Nothing changes in the media’s agenda
The referees were bought out by Arsenal. Thomas handled the ball as it bounced off Nicol, so the goal doesn't count. Another title stolen from Liverpool. YNWA.
DMS Go & cry into the Steven Gerrard posters on your bedroom wall!
“Another title stolen from Liverpool!”
That comment is a typical example of exactly why nobody likes Liverpool fans. They’re a bunch of arrogant, biased, deluded, hypocritical, loud mouthed, moaning & self-righteous pricks.
So whats new - been like that for years. Getting worse again in the last couple of years with the current love in.
Liverpool at this time were the masters!
I've seen great finales in my time
Manu and the treble
Liverpool 2005
But to me this was the BEST
Liverpool made the mistake of sitting back at 0-1 as they could still win the league.
BUT..........
The theme tune at the start brings back memories.
As a Gooner it was a great night for us.
Going to Anfield to win by two goals or more.
Liverpool weren't meant to be intimidating but the Gunners showed weren't scared and we got the two goals we needed.
What a night.
The greatest finish ever
I remember watching this live when I was 12. Brian Moore was/is my favourite commentator.
Will Never Ever Be Beaten , I remember it as if it was yesterday :) Still gives me goosebumps , Always will
Look at all the pass backs..
I can just imagine how gritty the scenery was.
As a Gooner I still can’t believe it happened.Did it happen.Yes it really.unbelievable never be beaten.COYG
10:56 what the bloody hell is jordan henderson doing on the bench? Nice new hair though.
Imagine thinking Aguero scoring in the last minute at home against 10 man QPR even remotely compares to this. RIP Rocky.
I have loved the arsenal since then. I am 46 years old, still love Arsenal and will like forever.
What a game it was. Wow, I enjoyed this as if it was live. The game was played even when I was born but you could have seen how I celebrated that Thomas's goal. I was rooting for him and he went on to score the winning goal
1 minute 1 minute that's right Steve, cheers mate
Amazing.
the greatest ending to a league season ever. hopefully, we get to relive the experience of winning the league once again
Wow football existed before 1992🤯
As an Arsenal fan, the words "It's up for grabs now" are etched in my mind. But what I came on here to say was, during this lockdown, I sincerely hope we are gonna see this through as unscathed as possible. Although we all love football, we are all in this together and I wish everyone the best.
Football kits back then were so much better !
The season will be cancelled mate 👍 😂
Hillsborough fucked everything up.
Limbs in the away end, I love seeing away fans going nuts.
I remember this night, I went out for a drink because I didn’t think arsenal could win so I wanted to be detached from the game, being a United fan I couldn’t bear to stay tuned to what I thought would be a Liverpool win, driving home that night I put the radio on and heard the full time result, omg I was soo happy, I went out the next night to celebrate 🎉 United have won some great games over the years, in difficult circumstances, but I love this game 🎉🎉🎉
,
38:11not that season he didn't. Never over until until Thomas sings!!! Thanks Arsenal!!!!
Best moment in all of sport, well all of life really.
Will NEVER forget this game!… Lord Have Mercy, my nerves were absolutely shot till Michael Thomas slipped through!… AMAZING
The day I was born only right I support Arsenal.
>Need to beat the best team in Europe by 2 clear goals away from home.
>Sends Steve Bould out there in the no. 10 shirt.
>Gets the job done anyway.
George Graham. Genius tactician.
This was a game I knew at the time if Arsenal won I would be watching 30years later .
Still brings a tear to my eye now, this game will never be suppased due to being a once in a lifetime league decider, plus also played on a Friday evening, almost unheard-of back in the day. RIP David Rocastle, a true Arsenal legend ❤
That intro brings back memories!
I was in a bar restaurant in Phuket. The owner got me a prime seat! Local Thais wanting Liverpool. Second goal was one of the best moments of my life! Drove home signing for sure! Bit drunk but?
Love the away fans. Different breed of Gooner in the 80s. Good little pitch invasion on the first goal!!
Fuck me they were crammed into that corner terrace!
Away support still make a racket to be fair. Less tourists.
@arsenal0782 Oh really? They fail to mention this sort of thing when they bang on about justice for the 96
After "Hillsborough"...no one gave us a chance, like it was written in the stars for Liverpool...the Afc team handing out flowers at the start was a sign...and the Liverpool players lack of grace in defeat was the icing on the cake...
I was in Phuket watching at a friends restaurant! Loved the night! Never forget it!! COYG!!
Thomas' goal beats aguero's hands down
Unbelievable.what a night best night ever..COYG.Rocky rocky
"...or Liverpool will be champions for the 19th time". I loved Brian Moore but he was wrong on that, to be pedantic it would have been our 18th as we'd only won 17 at the time and won our 18th the following season (89-90)
Lovin these get me thru lockdown can’t wait for football be back ❤️
Brilliant and Fantastic and we fully deserved it what a magical night for all Gooners 👋👍
Not an Arsenal fan, I came here just because I was doing a research about Michael Thomas who was one of the worst players of Benfica's history (Benfica is my team), it's shocking to find out he did this.
1989 Acid house and The Arsenal league champions. The perfect summer
Decent pills back then,eh? Come to think of it everything was better then..
Greatest finish to a league ever. Only Manchester United against Bayern Munich in 1999 can compare.
Greatest Friday night ever in my life, oh to be a oh to be a goonar
