These European nights at OT back in the 90s and early 2000s were unbeatable. In a 5/6 year period, United went from tentative underdogs in Europe to champions. So many superstars of that era in fantastic matches. I miss the buzz of big nights like this. It was like going to war.

Batitstuta was a hero of mine as a kid, and his goal here was an example of why. Straight down the middle, but he hit it with so much suprise and power the keeper had no chance.
As much as I always hyped up Batistuta and everyone is giving him plaudits here, look at Andy Cole. What a striker he was, and playing like Del Piero here. What a touch, awareness, range of passing, shooting. What a beast.

Such a continuous assault plus the roar of the old trafford crowd it actually drowned the opposition. In this 99 treble winning season utd became titans in the footballing world
united had no business beating such a strong opposition 3-1. just goes to show how good this united team was then. legends all over the pitch. a far cry from what we see today.

Stacked utd team. So pacey and accurate. Had 2 brutes in stam and keane. Flair galore from becks giggs scholes and york and coles were a killer combo up front.

What a goal, what a fantastic ball by Red Nev, he doesnt get the respect he deserves, he might no have the blistering pace of Walker but hes the better right back and could easily play in todays game and be a world beater like he was, that squad would be challenging for league titles, euro titles in todays game easily. Andy Cole controlled that ball like it was something he'd practiced a million times, spun round and slotted it home like it was second nature to him, it was second nature to him! If he payed in todays game, with the rules as they are, man would get golden boot every year, they couldn't handle him in todays game. Toldo was a top drawer Keeper, that side was filled with Stars . Giggs though what a player he was!

I've read some comments here about Batistuta not having pace or dribbling. I was at this game, and it doesn't come across in these highlights, but Batistuta was a handful all night. I'd never seen Gary Neville struggle to contain a player like this before. A great result.

Not at all........simple cushion, turn and an instinctive shot into the corner. Pretty basic stuff for any decent striker that. Not denying Cole was a top player, but shots like that should be your basic bread and butter, if you're putting the time in on the training pitch.
