Even though this game is not groundbreaking, it holds a special place in my heart. My mom was one of those people that like video games as well, in fact most of my family. My mom was the one who told me about this game "It is so cool because you hear his music in the game!". We where grocery shopping and saw that Smith's (Kroger) had Moonwalker in the arcade in front of the store. "Hold on before we leave, you got to see this game." she told me. So we park the grocery cart and play a through the first level and she tells me "I wonder how the rest of the game looks." So we spend a ungodly amount of quarters until we beat Mr. Big. We did not care that are ice cream that we bought was melting.
Best mom ever, also your pfp fits perfectly, remember me of the last day the arcade was open here, my dad was a friend of the owner, that was the day i was finally able to finish Cadillacs and dinosaurs with my little brother, it was a sad day anyways we never got another chance to play the arcades :/
It was, even if you thought a michael jackson themed game seems to be an awkward sell, it was such a good game. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the Altered Beast team that did it, Sega worked some muthafuckin magic during this era.
This was actually pretty damn cool because not only was it a fun game, but it had Michael's actual soundtrack in there. Granted it's only a 32 bit system, it's still very much enjoyable!!!
it is cool actually. Can't beat Ninja Gaiden on Nes because it's not cutscene but it kicks ass like the Comix Zone cutin. But that one got seriously shitty arcade counterpart. Strangely Genesis and Arcade of this MJ is vastly different in perspective. Some ports or gamed like Bionic Commando and Rygar even had game style switched from each version. Arcade versions are much more straightforward mostly while Nes versions add variations of gameplay

@@dnazz9784 Well, then download retroarch for ps3 from the internet and install it in your ps3. Then, download all nes, snes, sega and arcade roms and store them in a pen drive. Plug in the pen drive in your ps3 and start reliving your childhood all over again. You can thank me later.
Almost 20 years later, it's still difficult for me to believe sega exited the console business. And 10 years later it's also difficult to believe Michael is gone.

Nails were already in Sega's coffin during the life of the gensis and its vestigial bodies, IE. Sega CD and the 32x. Releasing the Saturn early in north America pissed off retailers, another nail in Sega's coffin. The dreamcast was Sega's last dich effort to stay afloat, unfortunately it did not have a DVD drive, nor decent security as people were pirating games during it's short lifetime of less than 2 years.
What makes it even worse is Micro$oft stepping in, a company that knows nothing about games and just throws money around buying up dev studios to run into the ground.

Thanks for this, memories of being at a caravan park on holiday and getting up early to play Crazy Golf and then this when I could beg for some change from my Dad. I never did get past the final boss, but I did meet other kids playing this game in multiplayer, we absolutely loved it! Probably one of the best arcade games I ever played it was so cool! Great to finally see it all the way through!

I remember playing this game on a whim when I was a kid when it was in the arcades, it's really hard to think a game based on a singer would be good, but at the time the gameplay was on point.

You'd start the game again, go a little further with your new experience and see the game over a little later at the game. That's how most people managed to 1 credit clear gams back then.

In fact her dentist in the early 90s was Evan Chandler, the creep who started the false allegations against Jackson. She talks about them in her autobiography Shockaholic how that, during a dental appointment before the allegations, Evan was saying weird stuff about how his own kid was 'good looking' which disgusted Carrie and she got a new dentist. Years later she was also with Jackson and his 3 kids on his last ever Christmas in 2008

I only saw the Megadrive version until now. This version has lots of solid concepts and design in it- really imaginative bots and levels. Also contains all the hallmarks of Jackson, for better or worse. The Moonwalker movie was a straight to video release yet had an immense budget.
I didn't know moonwalker was an actual cinematic production until years later, it really puts into perspective how much control people in media companies had over what you could and could not see. If it wasn't in theaters and you didn't know about it, there was no hope of you catching it on the internet because it straight up did not exist at the time. Also, is it just me or did the shock trooper guys look like they were carrying pulse rifles from Aliens in this game?
the cinema release was canned because of distribution costs, they could bag more money going straight to video with fewer middle men - I did a research paper on it many years ago. Plus if you've seen it, its 40% music vids then drops into a 'feature' film. Definitely a good watch.
It was so much fun spending a pile of quarters to play through this game. First time I ever beat this game from beginning to end was with 3 other strangers at a Pistol Pete’s pizza. All of us were decent players with a pocket full of tokens. Great memories!

Including the Leaving Neverland frauds in MULTIPLE failed lawsuits (they altered their stories each time it failed to get the millions of dollars they crave, before and after their 'documentary' so they have multiple contradictory timelines).
At the time this game was created, I believe that creating isometric games was a little difficult, because you can see that sometimes some sprites are on top of others when they shouldn't be because of the complexity of the depth of isometric games that need 4 different ones depths than just 2

Imagine an alternate world where there was no Michael Jackson or anything about him but this game. Like he was just a character in the video game and all his songs were the soundtrack.
I remember this being one of those games that was so visually rich and detailed that you didn't even need to actually play it to appreciate it - I spent quite a few hours just watching other people play. Played this a few times in the arcade back in the day. I thought it was a fun game.
Imagine an alternate world where there was no Michael Jackson or anything about him but this game. Like he was just a character in the video game and all his songs were the soundtrack.

I remember this being one of those games that was so visually rich and detailed that you didn't even need to actually play it to appreciate it - I spent quite a few hours just watching other people play.
Even as a kid, though, there was one little detail that bugged me: "That thing at 8:25 has a penis." I mean, there's no two ways about it, it's slamming you with it's robo-cock. I refuse to accept that they didn't know what they were doing with that one.
