      What were the exact dates of your CWT, Edward? Enjoying very much following your films from my faraway perch, across the Atlantic. We prepared our CWT all winter long, 2020, having planned to do it May 2020, then had to "shelve" it when the first lockdown began in late March. Ours would also have been a two-person, parent-son journey. I'm guessing that you were out on the trail in summertime, but can't quite figure it out. It's great to follow your trip day by day, bringing into focus the months of map study that we'd done. Well done to you and your Dad!

      PS Just saw foxglove blooming on the hillside where your poor dad took a spill in this section - did you do your CWT in early summer?

    I’ve done bits of the Cape Wrath Trail and I’ve done the whole of the Pyrenees from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean and I can categorically state that the Cape Wrath Trail is ten times tougher than anything you might encounter in the Pyrenees!

    Perfect example of waterproofs wetting out when claiming to be 100% waterproof. I do wish water repellency products were more durable, even Nik Wax seems to wear off within 3-5 heavy showers. Crazy conditions Edward! Well done, some fantastic views.

    Hey Eddie - as well as I can work it out, on the night you guys were in Sourlies Bothy, I was camped a couple of hours up the Glen at the ruins - you would have walked past it - with the sheer cliff on the other side of the river? I was lucky, I got up and away early, and was over the river that blocked you, before the worst of the rain. I managed to get to Kinloch Hourn on the night you camped just short of Barrisdale (although crossing all the side streams on the path from Barrisdale was a challenge). I've walked and climbed in Scotland most of my life (I'm a wee bit older than you!!), and that day was one of the worst days of rain I've ever experienced!! Well done for staying safe in difficult circumstances. On your day 5, I got up and over the ridge, and was tucked up nice and warm at the hotel in Shiel Bridge!
    It's really interesting to see somebody else's experience on the trail at more or less the same time. Looking forward to your next video.

    • @EddieFitz7
      @EddieFitz7  4 роки тому

      Hey David, yeah we started the day off from Sourlies, so your right, you were just up ahead. Like you say it’s honestly so cool to hear that we were just hours apart but had completely different experiences of that section of the trail. I think that’s something I definitely learned from day 4, on these kinds of walks you’ve just got to take it a day at a time and never take anything for granted. The weather was just non stop from when we set off and didn’t really stop until the morning of day 5. I really thought at this point when setting up the tent for day 4 that this would have been the end of our trip and the time would have thrown us off. But thankfully the river was just settled enough that we could get across and back on the path again. Then as you know the weather completely turned after this from floods to sunstroke weather 😂

    Just seen your dad take that tumble. If you've taken the path down the Falls of Glomach later in the journey I don't think that I can watch as I've been on that path and know exactly how treacherous it is (even in dry conditions) and that kind of slip on that path would seriously be game over...

    I am on Australia time so missed the live feed. Just wondered as I plan for my CPT (goodness knows when), if there was any kit that failed miserably. What were the opportunities to dry your wet gear like?

    • @EddieFitz7
      @EddieFitz7  4 роки тому +1

      Hi all the way from Scotland, thank for watching the video 🙂I spent a lot of time planning and preparing what kit I was taking and everything worked pretty well. The only thing I had problems with was my water container as I dropped it on day one and it burst leaving me without a bottle until I stopped off at Glenfinnan. I then picked up a standard coke bottle and it was perfect and even lighter! I would also say in terms of camera gear I took a lot but after reviewing the footage from day 4 the GoPro would be a perfect all round camera to take! I have done a little video on all the gear I took for the trip here - ua-cam.com/video/Z6ZLlAgvJwE/v-deo.html

    Hey, good job guys! I wish I could walk this trail one day. You've mentioned about boots. I want to buy boots/shoes/trailrunners so I have a question. How did you managed to keep your feet dry. Did your boots leaked? Is it possible after so many hours of rain to stay in waterproofs dry? You should be proud of yourself guys. Nice video!

    • @EddieFitz7
      @EddieFitz7  3 роки тому +2

      Hey, thank you so much, I really appreciate that. Yeah, totally! This is a question I have been asked a lot, we both wore boots, even though lots of people wear trail runners because they dry quicker. I didn't get one blister the whole trip and my feet stayed fairly dry the whole time apart from day 4. I must admit we got really lucky with the weather so we had a good few sunny days that followed this bad one allowing all our gear to dry up. In terms of things like river crossings, we were quite careful where we crossed as we wanted to keep ourselves dry, it might have taken us slightly longer finding a path across at times but definitely it paid off on the feet.
