My experience was miserable. What a disaster. Okay so it's not the worst game ever, it is completeable but my goodness does it suffer from poor controls, clunky gameplay, awful voices and a confusing story that if you haven't ever seen the movie or know the story will throw you off guard.That said it's still Bionicle and I love Bionicle (Heroes is infinitely better!):P

At the time…it was. I remember when games on the PS1 were the most advanced graphics and tech I’d ever seen. Video games are such a weird medium in that regard.
I remember getting this on a flea market when I was a kid and taking forever to beat every level
to be honest, I never overcame the levels of Tahu, I'm still stuck there on the Lava level.
I was LUCKY to get past Tahu, fuck darksouls this game was tough as shit

Damn I used to wake up early every Saturday morning and play this. So many environments, an interesting world tons of hours of gameplay.
I remember it took me so long to defeat bohroks at gali's level

I have this game for my GameCube since the first day it came out ^^ I loved those toys as a child.

Lewa's level was so relaxing.
It took me about 1 our to pass guko bird flight mission. SO RELAXING.
This was the game that made me realize that games could be bad. I remember seeing on the shelf at Blockbuster back in 2003 and needing to play it. I thought it was gonna be amazing but instead, it pissed me off and ruined my weekend. At least Mask of Light came out in the following weeks to ease the pain.
Yeah I always wanted this game myself obviously this is just a cheap I got from CEX. I knew going into this it would be bad but my God! The controls and unresponsiveness overall made this a stressful playthrough. Hence why I died a lot in this (because half the time it wouldn't respond in time or would be slow) :P Also the Gali level in this was actually played TWICE! Because a glitch caused me to be unable to go further in the level (which is why I spent some time wandering around aimlessly I spliced the two runs)

This game wasn't perfect, but I certainly enjoyed it.
My favorite was playing as the green toa, Lewa I think? I loved the beautiful scenery and the flying. I would come home from school and replay that part every day for such a long period of time

In the kopaka level, it's always crossed my mind about those red circles slowly changing the green circles on the bottom corner of the screen as well as it means but somehow it actually means the bottom are coming and time is running out too
Fun Fact: Sean Schemmel (voice of Goku in the english dubs of Dragon Ball Z, Z Kai, and Super) voices Makuta in this game.

I don't know how I could forget about this. There are many PS2 games that I loved and played as a kid, and this is one of them. True nostalgia even if its kinda crap looking back at it haha

Ooh man, my dad recently found our old bionicle collection. I began to feel nostalgic and pulled this game out. Good Lord, my rose tinted glasses turned blue so fucking fast.
Everything you said was right. Controls more clunky than the figures themselves, voice acting that rivaled arcade shooters, and overall...just not a good game.
I cannot say the same with Bionicle Heroes, though. That game was SO much better. The presentation was very nice and fitting for LEGO (comedy-laced adventure stories); the controls, while tankey, were much more responsive and solid; and it looked much better (even if at a less buttery smooth frame-rate at times). Not perfect, mind you, but hey, it's a hidden gem.

i remember i got soft locked in the gali level and had to restart again which as a kid already was a herculean task

I remember lava missions, snowboarding missions, and for some reason the Makuda battle even tho I don't remember any other parts and can't remember beating it. I was like 5 or 6 yrs old

I remember playing this on Xbox when I was little. The only level that really gave me a bunch of trouble was the first Tahu one. After that, I beat it in about a day or two
I simultaneously remember this vividly/nostalgically, and not at all
loooool I'm not natively english but played this game when I was really young (like 5 or 6) and didn't know a word of english. I just assumed all the characters spoke in made up bionicle-language 😂😂 I vividly remember the speech in the first scene when they get attacked - all the tonalities and emphases.. except as utter gibberish 😁 Never managed to get through the Gali level though - I saw you commented about it being glitched below, hindering progression. I think that might have happened to me as well 🤷♂️

Huh, I'm surprised many people disliked the game. There are some parts that feel clunky, like pushing the stones as Onua, but in general I had a lot of fun back then :>
The German voices aren't even that bad tbh, especially Nuju sounds better in German. More like a wise old man instead of... whatever that is.
As a kid i was so proud of myself when i got past kopakas level because i didnt know you where suposed to use the shield on the bohrok

The reason why the game is buggy as shit was because originally the game was meant to come out around early 2004 and have 13 levels (6 for each Toa Mata and Toa Nuva and the Takanuva Stage) and with better controls but Lego rushed production of this to meet Christmas sales
I think visually the game is amazing for its time. It's really janky and clearly for really young kids but it still holds a special place for me.

I didn’t have a memory card and would have to replay the first level over and over again if my ps2 was turned off
Also, if you spam the shield, it's continuous protection... aka, you're literally invulnerable
until you stop.

I remember playing this game. I made it to the snow part and for the love of fucking sanity,
I couldn't hit that rolly ball enemy one time... actually, I think I hit it once... PERIOD. Kept losing and it made it to the village at the end and killed the innocents. I remembered how to kill it but I could never catch up to it... it was frustrating.
