You need to react to “I Still Love You” from the acoustic MTV Unplugged back in 1996. You really get to hear Paul Stanley’s true vocals when he was in his prime!
I consider Paul Stanley, of KISS, one of the great Rock vocalists. "I Still Love You," is one of his many examplars. And, I came appreciate KISS extremely late, like in the past few years. Link to an 'unplugged' live version: ua-cam.com/video/Q94QkRRQKG4/v-deo.html
Back in 1977/78 as a 9/10 year old kid, a classmate brought KISS Alive II to class for end of year party...that was my first true exposure to ROCK and fell in love with the music and had to have my mom take me to the store and get that album. Been a ROCK and METAL fanatic ever since. Thanks for the rawr-action. Rock and Roll All Nite Beth.
One of the most played live songs of all time if not the most. KISS was a rare combination of 4 singers, 4 musicians, 4 characters and a group spectacle. They created an army and a marketing brand. Just awesome Love Beth worrying about the instruments at the end 😂
Kiss was never about the vocals, lyrics, or the greatest musicians in the world. What drove the entire show was just the whole spectacle of the thing. Back in the 70’s this was so radical and unheard of that you just couldn’t help but love them. 😊
According to them, it was about giving everyone a great night. While this concert was after ~20 years of vocal and body abuse, they still put it out there. Detroit rock city, i was made for lovin you are also designed to get you out of your set.
Right. "Musical excellence" from a technical point of view was never their priority it was always about the show, about entertainment and having a good time. But besides that, they are not even bad singers. Not great singers, but this live recording is really not doing them justice. They are pretty on point in the studio, and there are live recordings where they are doing a lot better.
@@Rafael-pi4md neither are mine...but kiss sucks....lyrics are mediocre, half assed musicians but money hungry.. vc deve ser fa de calipso tambem , so pode
I saw KISS at the Gourge at George, WA last November, the best concert I have ever seen....wish I could have brought you with me Beth. I would have smiled at you as they played / sung ...the song BETH. It is a very good Ballad, that describes a rockers life, on the road.
The energy at a KISS concert is amazing. I have seen them in concert 3 times. The last time was Psycho Circus where I took my 14 year old daughter to her first real rock concert. She was actually more interested in the platform boots but she was hoarse from screaming at the end of the night, and Paul spit a pick right at her feet. Needless to say she is a fan for life lol.
KISS was my first concert ever in Reno, NV. @ Lawler Event Center when I was just 12yo. I remember the tickets price back then was an outrageous $12.....who knew? I've now seen them twice, once w/ makeup and once without.
I was 12yrs old when this song dropped and I was hooked in seconds, been a life long fan ever since the Paul Lynd Halloween Special (their first BIG TV performance)... I was bouncing all over my Mom's living room!! She didn't get it... lol
Yep, the band is all about the show. 'Beth' is a ballad sung by the original drummer ,Peter Criss. Saw them on the reunion tour in the 90's, Peter performed that song acapella.
I first saw Kiss live in 1975 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium in Ontario Canada. The show was fantastic. Now I'm 70. I was 22 at the time. Great review Beth.
I always love watching Beth be her vocal coach self when breaking down videos, but it was kinda nice to watch her just enjoy herself while extolling the virtues of grungy vocals and not having to be a great singer to be a great performer.
KISS is all about the show not about the musicianship or their singing It was by far the best concerts I have ever seen I seen them 10 times since 1976 never been disappointed.
I just love KISS! Seen them twice now their showmanship is fantastic. I really like thier music and combining that with the stage performance and all the lights and pyrotechnics makes one hell of a show. When I se them last year they filled more or less filled the entire arena with confetti and balloons
Kiss is so much fun. I attended a concert in the mid 70's during the same tour they recorded Kiss Alive!. For me, their studio albums are almost an after thought (after Destroyer, Rock and Roll Over, and Love Gun) but live there is nobody more fun. I've seen them every time I could over the years. Rock and roll fun personified.
I would LOVE to hear you analyze Paul Stanley’s voice (the dude with the star on his eye). Check out their performance from MTV Unplugged of him singing the song “I Still Love You”.
Depending on the song, Kiss has different singers. In this case, that's Gene (less caring with technics). If you wanna check the best vocal quality you gotta choose a song in which Paul Stanley is the singer. Songs like "Love Gun", "Forever" and "Heaven's on fire" (check the performances in Kiss "Alive III" and "Alive IV"). Regards from Brazil
Paul Stanley, the guy with the star, on the other hand has a GREAT voice. Listen to " I still love you" the unplugged version and prepare to be amazed!
I love Kiss Beth, they are such an amazing and fun band to listen to. Would love to see you do more reactions to them, i for one would really like to see that. :)
Our band Jasmine had just opened two shows for Leo Kottke at SIUE in 75, then we did a street dance for Halloween. We we an acoustic/electric folk rock band. Funny Kiss had a concert in St. Louis that night and ya could see a lot of little Kiss faces in the crowd. What a night. Jim
Thanks for doing this! Loved that you were rockin' along with the song. 50 years of Kiss is coming to an end on December 2nd so seeing this is bittersweet.
One of my fav lead from Ace but with perfect notes from Genes bass, nails it together and makes Aces sound and melody so much better. Max out of this short solo and so memorable.
Nice, Beth! A classic song, but there's better vocal performances from KISS. I Still Love You from Kiss Unplugged is amazing. Lick It Up from Rock The Nation (or Alive IV) brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.
Love your reaction to this Beth, thank you so much for enjoying this as much as I do. I agree perfection has its place…..sometimes you just want to rock out and let loose.
Kiss has always been my favorite band!! I am so glad you took the time to react to them!! If you pay close attention, you'll see that Paul walks to the side of the stage and switches guitars at the end of the song. The one he breaks is barely worth anything. It is definitely NOT one that is even played.
G'day Beth. It was my misfortune to catch these guys a fortnight ago at the AFL Grand Final. Their mics were mixed way, way down and their backing tracks were mixed way, way up. Perhaps you could do a review of this same song from that show?
KISS Army for life!! Hope you check out some of their other stuff, especially from the MTV Unplugged show (I'd go for "Every Time I Look At You" personally)
There's also a sort of 'It' Factor with all 4 of the original members' voices together. It's not as apparent here on this live recording, but it's one of those 'intangibles' that I feel elevates the vocals - the sum is more than the parts.
Nice reaction 😊 I saw Kiss live for the first time a few months ago and I understood why they're such a legendary band. I recommend you check out the swedish metal band Avatar.🤘🏻
Gene’s “Kiss voice” is different from his regular singing voice. He adds the growl intentionally. Some of his solo material, plus many of the background vocals in Kiss are his regular voice. All four original members, and several of the later members, sing live. Peter Criss (the drummer here) has an incredible “screamy” voice, and Ace’s is very unique and laid-back. To hear all of them sing lead listen to Black Diamond (Peter), Shock Me (Ace), and Strutter (Paul).
Growing up in the 70s KISS were like superheroes to us! My first two albums (when I was like 6 or 7) was KISS ALIVE 2 and Double Platinum! Seen them in concert twice and Ace Frehley solo once!
Their adage was they wanted to be the band they never saw on stage, and boy they certainly delivered for 50 years. Not the most talented singers, musicians but it worked for them. 🤘
Actually, all the original members of this band can actually "sing". It's something you don't usually hear in most of their songs. Gene, surprisingly has a really good singing voice because I've heard it a few times. ;) lol
Gene had trouble with his voice on that tour , thats why he sounded like that . in fact , in japan the other guys had to sing his parts as he lost his voice entirely for a little while
You definitely have to react to Beth, as well as Strutter (from the 2003 Kiss Symphony), Paul Stanley is the main vocalist of the group and hits some powerful notes towards the end!
Lead guitarist Ace Frehley (now almost 73) is one of the most influential guitar players since the 70's. So many people started playing guitar cuz of Ace. Guitar World magazine ranked him as the 14th Greatest Metal Guitarist of All Time.
Back in 1999, Paul Stanley appeared as The Phantom in two extended engagements of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical, The Phantom Of The Opera, at Toronto's Pantages Theatre.
Back in the day, Kiss toured with a group named Angel. One of their songs " Feelings" is still one of favorites. If you have a chance give it a listen.
I found out about Kiss when R&RAN was played in 1975 on America Top 40 radio show. I would tape the show, and play back the songs I liked. Next trip to the mall, I hunted down the 45. The 45 version is different performance than from Alive! and prefer the live version over studio version

I agree with Gina O. KISS was all about putting on a great showing and playing to the audience. Hijinks aside, they had a great work ethic and actually influenced Rush when they were a young impressionable band. Rush didn't succumb to the after show stuff but they learned to work hard and play to the fans. I was a huge KISS fan in the 70's.
I do wish someone would react to their song; Deuce - Live - Midnight Special 1975. Maybe even try Black Diamond from the same performance (Peter Criss - drummer - sings this one). I did see them three times Live. All three times were with original members (1979, 1996 Reunion Tour, and 2000 Farewell Tour). I was a fan from the early albums...up to the Dynasty album; which I did not buy. I also didn't buy any albums following Dynasty.
Hey Beth. I know you reacted to her a few months ago doing another track but I'd love to get your take on Donna Summer's 2005 live performance of Macarthur Park at Night of the Proms. It's a tour de force and right up your street. 😄
Great and funny video but there's a lot of kiss songs you got to listen. Jungle, it never goes away, dreaming, tough love, heart of chrome, king of hearts, unholy, and many many more.
You mentioned the guitar solo: Ace Frehley is one of the most influential guitar players from the 1970s, along with Ritchie Blackmore, Ted Nugent, Tony Iommi, and Michael Schenker. There are plenty more, but those are some of the best.
Hi Beth nice reaction. Can you do reaction to a great balled, I STILL LOVE YOU MTV UNPLUGGED VERSION? The lead singer Paul Stanley will amaze you with his vocals! It is totally different from their faster Rock songs.

If you want to hear Gene's soothing natural voice, listen to "World without Heroes" a live performance from 1982.
Yes, I forgot that one.
The Fridays performance.
Or, See You Tonight from Unplugged.
MORE KISS PLEASE!!! I STILL LOVE YOU UNMPLUGGED OR PSYCHO CIRCUS ALIVE IV
Cool video, Beth - I'll also add that on this performance, Gene was recovering from losing his voice.
