    Agreed. I am an LEO and one of my recent roles prior to promotion was in procuring equipment. Everything from vehicle acquisition and outfitting to weapon storage solutions.
    I was curious about a certain company's clasping lock one day, musing in the shop. Thought about how solenoids and such work...took a magnet that was mounted on the vehicle life used to hold paperwork...viola.
    Spoke to my Chief about the discovery, then sent him a video via text. Next course of action was a call to Seti.... Advised them that the product they sell has serious safety flaw and would like to send them back. They basically said I was stuck with them due to various procurement rules ad regs.
    So, found a loophole in our contacting manual and regs regarding 'faulty and/or unsafe equipment and assumed liability'. To make this short, all 32 racks went back.

    I did work on an old woman's house once. She live kind of out in the sticks, and she just yelled "come in!" When I knocked on her door for an evaluation. I wasn't in a marked vehicle and I was only wearing plain clothes, no company markings anywhere. She didn't have an appointment because my scheduler said she was always home.
    Now, I used to live in the country, so I get it, but my dad was a huge dude and knew how to handle himself, so I was never worried. This old woman though? I figured she'd be more cautious. After a few minutes I asked her why she didn't lock the door and she said
    "It only keeps the good people out."
    I only started to watch your channel somewhat recently, but I can already tell she was right this whole time.

    • @herzglass
      @herzglass 2 роки тому +41

      I always try and tell people not to be overly worried about locking everything up. "If someone comes to to your house with the intent to get in, they most certainly will."
      Only thing they might offer serious security is an alarm system and even these give professionals a couple of minutes to get what's really valuable.
      Indeed a family I know had their beautiful wide wooden stairs ruined because the burglar's threw the small safe down the stairs. The damage it did was a lot more worth than anything inside it.

    • @artful1967
      @artful1967 2 роки тому +74

      @@herzglass the point in locking things up is not to make it impossible for a determined thief. It is to make it not worth the effort. If you have a security system and good locks and a guard dog and cameras etc and the house next door doesn't then they will go to the easier house

    • @herzglass
      @herzglass 2 роки тому +9

      @@artful1967 I am aware of that. That's why easy to carry valuables should not be kept at home.
      There is no harm in having good locks, doors and windows and maybe additional security, but as soon as it becomes a pricy investment, it's worth to consider locking stuff up someplace else. Again, I know some examples of the burglars trying to bypass existing security making the damage a lot pricier, than just leaving your door unlocked.

    We spent hours digging. It was the middle of summer but the midnight air was cool and crisp. Our hands and eyes were focused on our work, but our ears strained against the gentle wind, listening for any sign that we'd been spotted. You remarked on the weather. There was a thin but broad cloud cover that night. You remarked that you couldn't see the stars. It was the only thing you said that night.
    The coffin was ancient stone, carved by a dedicated hand with old old tools. I ran my fingers along the rim of the lid, feeling the ancient brass clasps. I looked up at you to say you were right, but you only stared down at me, just a pair of eyes framed by a scarf and a hood, lit only by the dim glow of the camping lantern. It was some mixture of interest tinged with pity and the barest sliver of something I couldn't quite place. It started to rain, but only just.
    I felt the latches again. It was faint, a whisper, but unmistakably deep, like the feeling in your bones before a rainstorm.
    I looked up, you had stepped back. You knew what was going to happen next, what had to happen next.
    I began to read the inscription on the coffins lid. The words felt warm in my mouth. I felt my neck begin to tremble as I recited line after line of faux-latin, I surpressed the reflex as my voice grew louder and louder, the rain was falling harder, the words were hot in my throat, the words grew louder, the rain was falling in sheets, I had to shout over the churning wind, my voice was louder than it should have been, the rain was falling harder, my voice was louder than any voice could ever be, the words singed my throat, my words echoed past my ears, past the sodden earth, past time, past the veil, as I read the final line I felt that the words would burn my throat to ash when lightning struck the coffin.
    All was quiet. The rain had stopped. For a moment, I could see the stars. We listened.
    THUD.
    There was a noise like a great stone fist slamming against the coffin lid. The runes flashed with arcane light.
    THUD.
    There came another, but this time with even greater force. I felt the coffin shake beneath me. The runes flashed, brighter this time, straining against the force.
    THUD.
    With a final cyanean crash against the coffin lid, thing inside was silent, and the world breathed a sigh of relief. The seal held.
    I looked up again and saw you, hand outstretched, regarding me with that same strange look. I righted myself, and reached out to take your hand, when we heard a sound that stopped dead in our tracks.
    Whispering.
    I threw myself to the coffin, pressing my ear to the lid, straining to hear what the voice was saying.
    It spoke, "this is TheLockPickingLawyer, and today I am going to show you one of the least secure ritual seals I have ever seen."

The reality is a bunch of donut eating, lazy ass cops did a shit job spelling out what they needed and confirming the selected product functioned as required.
