This is one of the better videos on flossing. I actually tend NOT to watch videos from dentists on flossing, because they always demonstrate on a model of the mouth, maybe by virtue of the profession. Yet the main difficulty is flossing your own mouth and most videos just don't address it. Thank you for at least explaining about flossing your own mouth.
With floss we're supposed to use a clean section (the next inch or so) between each set of teeth so that we're not moving the bacteria from one part of the gum to another. Wouldn't the same be true for the inter-proximal tools? Should I use one for each molar gap or are they different?
Thank you. I had gingivitis and periodontal disease and suffered through scaling. I am better now, I am flossing regularly and brushing after each meal, I also use the gum picks now because my hygenist recommended them and I had pockets of 7 that are now 5's and I am using the waterpik and I am hoping that the pocket around my molers will go down to a 4. My mouth is much better, no more bleeding.
Don't give up! I recently had some 6's that went down to 3. I find waterpiking after every meal and running the Sonicare 30m afterwards help immensely. Those gum picks are also a tremendous help - I feel they do better to remove plaque than flossing. But things aren't perfect yet - all my wisdom teeth are out and I have 8's beyond the last molars in three corners. I am hoping that gum stimulation with the waterpik and better cleaning will improve the numbers back there. One last thing - until you get your gums stabilized, get dental cleanings more often. After getting vaccinated, I had one deep cleaning (with a lot of bleeding) and one regular cleaning six weeks afterwards. That cleaning went well, so the next one will be three months out.
I haven’t heard anything about sonic toothbrushes.... I use the Phillips Sonicare toothbrush, in addition to floss. I can’t imagine NOT having it now. It stimulates the gums and is incredible with how well it cleans! Don’t press hard, people think the harder you brush, the better the clean... NOT SO! You don’t want to use heavy pressure with ANY toothbrush.
Like Dr. Olivia mentioned, what if the space between the teeth is too small for the inter-proximal brushes? Would you still recommend to try and work up to being able to use them or stick to just floss for cleaning between the teeth? My worry would be that the brushes could wear away at the tissue causing damage. Thank you for your videos!
Contradictory: likes to rub and toughen up the gums. That's called irritation and will cause receding. Gums are super sensitive. A light touch with floss sounds much better than a brush
Thank you guys!!! Theres one space between my molars that always bleeds and cant reach with floss its so uncomfortable so Im gonna try the other options. Teeth are priceless!!!
How do I floss my back molars with a gum pocket? The back side of my back molar is covered with my gums so only the front three sides are exposed. It’s hard for me to slide the floss over the top surface of the tooth and “wrap” behind since the gum grows over the back and back top surface of part of the tooth. Can you do a video on that ? Thanks
How much pressure should you use? My back molars don't have big gaps either so you really need to get the floss in there properly. I'm always worried about pressing too hard though, I know you mentioned toughening up the gums, but surely its not healthy for your gums to be pushing down hard with floss? At the same time I know you need to make sure you get in between the gaps and get that food out.
I’m just wondering do I go under the gum line between the gum and tooth? I seem to have one dentist say I shouldn’t, that I should just go in between each teeth? Or other will say I go into the space between the teeth and gum if that makes sense... feeling so confused:(
I've been to the dentist she told me stop flossing because it's causing my gums to recede. I'm flossing too hard she said. The alternative she recommend is waterpik and told me I should buy electric toothbrush.
Good idea to use a Soft Pick advanced - stimulate the gum tissue its easier and more effective or a proxy brush And use the water fisk twice a Day ....
For 16 yrs of living in now just starting to floss 😂 I don't know if I do it right my bottom center teeth tingle i can still feel it 😂 And I'm not sure if I floss my molar correctly in order since I can't see it I might miss some spot I'm just blindly pushing it, if it enter then I start rocking it back and fourth 😂
Hello Dr. Nemeth, I am wondering if there is any natural way of tightening my gums around my incisors (my jaw). I am the most worried about them, as I am experiencing minor wiggling and I don’t want to make it worse. I heard that gum massages might help? Thank you.
You need to go for a dental exam and thought clean. Mobility might indicate periodontal disease. And yes you absolutely need to floss but first of all get a professional clean first as if plaque is hardened you won’t be able to remove it yourself.
Idk what I’m doing but I use floss string for my back of bottom teeth and hurt like hell only when i floss but the string like dig in pretty deep idk if that’s a issue they never bleed or hurt when I eat only when I floss them any idea what’s going on ?

Floss doesn't go between my teeth 😭😭.. I tried but the gap between my teeth is not enough for floss 😰😰

@jenna5960 thanks for your reply. I will surely try.
You don’t need to wrap it so tightly the main thing is to make sure the string is straight and tight by using your thumbs. If you can’t get on with flossing you can try interdental brushes
I'd like to know if I should do lazer treatment with pockets of 5 mm that I can't seem to reduce on my own. Also, should I lazer the 4 mm pockets as well?
I’ve started to use the waterpik and an ultra thin interdental flosser after going to the dentist and having bleeding on almost every posterior tooth. That really scared me into going above and beyond with home-care bc perio tx is expensive! Lol But six months later, I went back for my cleaning and I had no bleeding at all. Also, at first I used some hydrogen peroxide in my waterpik but I’m not sure if this is something I should be doing daily or a couple times a week. What’s your opinion?
You can tell these people don't floss. If you move it along to use a fresh length on the next set of teeth it doesn't stay put round your fingers because it's now slimy/wet. You need a super long piece to have enough to wrap and deal with the wet floss issue
I have a question. Is there a disease that cause a tooth to significantly shift within months without an impact injury? I became very sick supposedly with gastritis, which caused me to lose 25 pounds and cause unbelievable debilitating joint pain and weakness, but anther odd thing that happened was that my front lower tooth shifted backwards significantly. I looked as if it were pushed back. It's there a disease, like auto immune that would cause that?
I’ve ruined my gums either by using the waterpik too aggressively or flossing incorrectly or using an abrasive toothpaste or strong mouthwash. All these years I thought I was helping myself….
What doesn't make sense is that you think those turquoise tooth picks are more effective than floss, those picks don't even reach the inside of the gums like the floss does!
Thanks for the great info Doc! I’m going to buy a waterpik today.
That will absolutely help! Keep those gums healthy.
Hahahahahaaaa
How is it?

Yooooo! I can't believe that I found you here. I love your channel

Guys! Dont forget to floss the last tooth in the back next your gum. Yes! You floss that too, they didnt mention that.

Yes, otherwise sonicare will abrade your teeth very quickly.

My teeth have almost no gaps and my dentist told me not to use those brushes and stick to floss
@valeriaximenalopezpena7442 Thank you so much for that! It's nice to have a definitive answer.
Thanks so much.appreciate that you speak slowly and so clearly and cover many aspects..very helpful.

I found that biting a little on the pick helps to get it in
@@dustyrose192 it’s better to use a sawing motion when putting in the molars and taking out :) !

Isn't the benifit of floss that you also get below the gumline? How is that accomplished with interproximal brushes?

Would you like to try BETWEETH Floss Holder? It is eco-friendly and makes flossing easy and fun. No more wrapping floss manually.
Thanks, great doctor.
Thank you Doc Nem..I now gently move the floss between my teeth..
What is a water flosser you would recommend? I don’t wanna spend a fortune though...
Good idea to use a Soft Pick advanced - stimulate the gum tissue its easier and more effective or a proxy brush And use the water fisk twice a Day ....
Thank you 🙂. I was wondering where to get the brush and inter cleaners? I’ve never seen or heard of them.
pharmacies, walmart, target etc
Your videos are so helpful. Thank you
does interdental brushes cause blunted gums as they seem to push the gums down?
The space between the back of my teeth are too tiny for up and down motion. What to do?
How do you hold the floss without suffocating your fingers?
So many type of floss, while i only knew 1 type of the floss..... , good video sir, thank you for the explanation
where can we buy those ? It will be great if you also include the amazon buying links.
Which come first Interdental brush or brushing?
What to do now if we accidentally damaged our moler gums with floss
I floss the gum behind the molar am I suppose to do that ?
Wait so your saying I should change from tooth flossing strips to waterpiks? Thank you
No he is saying to add it to your routine. Water pick doesn’t replace flossing/or use of interdental brushes
I use dental floss on my front teeth and floss pick on my molar. They save me a lot of time.
By floss pick ,u mean tooth pick???

Marwa Fahiz Yes, I used about 2 tablespoons in my handheld waterpik reservoir.

wooden toothpicks?

You sound like Jeff Goldblum. Which makes me believe you more.
No he doesn't stop lying.
The fact that they take off mask one after another and put on when one talks. Bravo.
I find it so difficult to floss with the string…

Do interproximal cleaners not irritate the delicate gum tissue between the teeth!
