'Are You Being Served?' as well as 'Keeping Up Appearances' are my most favorite BBC shows
Monty Python, The Avengers, The Prisoner, To The Manor Born, Are You Being Served, and SO MANY more! But my ALL-TIME favorite: "Yes, Minister/Prime Minister"; WHAT A CAST!!!
Mine too, as well as As Time Goes By, if that was BBC, I'm American so not sure, love British shows anyway.
Please don't mention the "Fawlty Towers"😅
@@ghostdoodles it was.
2024 anyone?
Yes!
I just found this when a “best of Humphries” moments popped up in the feed and I just love it it’s funny even today Awesome
Yes!! Love this. Actually before my time but love it and revisit often. There’s something comforting about this show. Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
@@downunderdan5132 Same here, before my time; I always loved watching this on Sunday nights before they took it off PBS. Makes me a bit sad, but I always have the laughs.
Yeah see ya next year 😊
I met John Inman many years ago. He was friendly and kind and was more than happy to take pictures with us. A true, humble gentleman.
Did he do his Mr Humphries character at all? I've read he used to keep doing it for the fans.
@@tilasole3252 Unfortunately he did not.
@@davidgreene8914 oh well. I am sure there was a bit of Mr Humpries somewhere in John Inman, bits and pieces of characters generally stick with the actor themselves in some ways.
so did I when I was a teenager..in Detroit..he came to PBS and I was so excited to meet him
@@kekosunny6202 US or UK?
PBS provided a great service to America introducing us to great British comedies such as this. I remember John Inman even helped with a local PBS fundraiser one time.
I remember him coming down as well. He was a class act.

Mr. Humphreys was always a cut above the rest, he was destined to go far.
I absolutely agree..... that is where I was introduced to British television... from Red Dwarf to I, Claudius.... great times
I was introduced to brit- coms when I was in high school. "Are you being served", "Eastenders", "Red Dwarf", "Mr. Bean", "Keeping up appearances". The only one still on PBS is "Keeping up Appearances".
So did molly sugden and trevor bannister help wit fund raisers also.
My all time favorite British TV Comedy. This is one of my favorite episodes. It never gets stale. I got my husband who was terminal with ESRD End stage renal disease, to watch the whole series on video, when he was up to watching it, Usually after dinner. He wasn't familiar with it. Dialysis can be very draining physically and emotionally and painful. Laughter was good medicine for him.. And me too. This series, Monte Python re-runs, Faulty Towers any movie with John Cleese or Michael Palin in it kept Him laughing at least for an hr. or two in the evening. Comedy can help heal.
I'm sorry- I know the pain. My father succumbed to diabetes and he also had to have dialysis 3 times a week. Yes, laughter can heal at least for a moment... Hope you're doing well.
You're speaking my language. God Bless !
Who would'a thunk Ms Slocombe's vibrant colored hair would be in vogue in the 2020's. She was ahead of her time.
"ME MOTHER!!!!" 😂😂😂 Never gets old. And he has obviously been in compromising situations at home many times he played that way too smooth 😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love when Mrs slocumb talks about her cat😂😂
I never get tired of watching this show, no matter how many times I've seen the episodes! I had never heard of "barathea", so I had to look it up. It's an interesting fabric with an interesting history. 🙂
A great series to watch when you're being blue.
Me to i watch them quite often😅
Mollie Sugden was a massive talent . There would be no show without Mollie, John Inman , and Trevor Bannister. They were the heart of the show .
Don't forget Frank Thornton as Capt. Peacock; he did a fine job as that character. 👍🙂
Frank Thornton was excellent and very funny in a thankless role
Well, they managed three seasons without Trevor. But he was a fantastic comic presence, it's true.
Unforgettable comic moment for me after 40 years. Captain Peacock when Mr. Lucas gets into the bed: "Mr. Humphries?" "Lucas" "Thank heaven for that..."
This was my favorite episode. I just loved the cozy little 'apartment' that was set up for her.

Too bad they couldn't find a live kitty that could lay around while it was filmed.
Miss Brahms: 'I'm not going back out there- I've had 4 proposals between here and the bus stop and they weren't for marriage'
Alfie Bass was very underrated in this series. A very sentimental performance. He will never be Mr. Grainger but nobody ever would.
I couldn't stand Mr. Grainger. Humphries rules.
It was a mistake to replace his character with Grainger.
@@fjccommishArthur Brough died in 1978 and was replaced by James Hayter (Mr. Tebbs.) Alfie was the last of the "good" Senior sales associates. The other two were entirely forgettable.

Wonderful episode. I have the complete set on DVD, including the two-season sequel, "Are You Being Served? Again!" Sadly, they're all gone now. RIP to an incredible ensemble cast.

Carlo Zabbia I love watching over in over. That was a great cast.
@@CrimsonThorns we we Vincmlm m mlm l0 Phnom
Yes so sad, apart from a few characters like the actress who played Mr. Graces nurse the main cast is now a part of history gone but not forgotten!!!
Carlo...you can't learn talent, you're born with it! Also, they are entertainers at heart, they love their trade. They didn't live for the camera (except as acting in front of them for us, who have had the pleasure to see them perform) as do today's actors and actresses.
My granny an I use to watch this in the 90s on pbs an I’m so glad I can watch it here even though my gram is no longer here I still watch an laugh great show.. much better then reality tv.
I used to watch it, with my mom, when it was on PBS. I wish, that she was still around to watch it with me, now.

OMG...I used to watch this with my Granny in the 90's all well 💚 It brings back so many great memories. We also used to watch another show on PBS called "Keeping Up Appearances" 😁😅 Those memories I will always cherish 💙
This is by far one of the best episodes! When john Inman flipped over the couch and looked casual, I nearly peed from laughter. He was an absolute rarity! What a gem! Love him!
I wonder how many takes they had to do to pull that off....and how many times he flipped right off!
Kathleen Vassallo his comedic acting was exceptional. with one show, I'd put him right up there with John Cleese, if not a close runner up. God love him. Positive vibe, so talented...loved, for sure!

Favorite episode. I love Mrs. Slocomb's cozy little apartment. 💕
Nansi…I just wondered, did Mrs Slocomb move her furniture by herself? The movers just dropped her stuff at the store, as she mentioned to Ms Brahms after she found out about the squaters.
The same. I used to try to get my mom to watch the show. She watched maybe about four episodes but she didn't like it. Her thing was detective shows.
When i lived in Japan in the 90s i worked at the old Ginza Kabukiza (Kabuki Theatre) and because i couldn't find a flat close enough to go home after work way after the last train, i was allowed to stay in the Theatre for a whole year until i saved enough money to get a flat nearby. I absolutely loved it. At night i could go down and walk around the entire theatre, it was absolutely magical !
Must have been a facinating place to live i would have loved it
was it haunted? 😏
Sounds fun.
Too bad some characters in the movies they played didn't come out to make you laugh, cry, and keep you company.

On the air in 1972, here it is, almost 52 years later - Still making us laugh. One of the greatest ensemble casts of all time - I think they'd all be amazed and humbled knowing their work will live on through the miracle of UA-cam.
The parts of this show I love the most are the interactions with customers and the chit chat Mrs Slocombe and Miss Brahms along with Mr Humphries and Mr Lucas have about their off work lives.
"Knickers and knockers counter" ROFL Miss Brahms could be just as funny as the rest, she never got enough credit.😆😆😆

Every time I watch this I laugh out loud. I’ve seen every episode multiple times and it never gets old. Talented cast, timeless humour. Hilarious!
I wished there were more episodes.
Love this ep. Surprisingly post-modern for the 1970s. Actually reminds me of the Seinfeld ep where Kramer builds the Merv Griffin Show set in his apartment; the characters willingly suspend their disbelief to make the conceit work.
I'm sorry I can not find any similarities between these 2 shows. Are you Being Served is a million times better than Seinfeld would/could ever be.
Once in a while I get in the mood for a Are You Being served episode. Thank God for youtube.

@@fbnflaviusbroadcastingnetw6786 On your comment of continuing the lies...they can't help being stupid (libs), and to them, it's normal to keep repeating the same narrative (repetition works to drill in an idea that they don't get). So, the same tactic has to be drilled into those who don't "get it" or they change the narrative to make it sound better. Feminism, also is evil, as it exploits women, but some women don't see it in front of their eyes! I lived in Communism; the political system, being Socialist, is the first form of Feminism (everyone has to be in the work force - forget about the kids because the govt. will steer them right). Never mind that: why does Mr Rumbold turn up despite having got a taxi home?

'Mrs. Slocombe I've never done anything as nature intended'!
I love how this show could deliver such great comedy without ever using profanity.
Profanity is just words. You can add them or leave them out. They don't create humor, wit, funny situations. Faulty Towers, Wooster and Jeeves, The Good Place, The Producers, King of Comedy, Gems, no bad language needed.

Peacock should be so lucky.
Mr. Lucas did at least offer Mrs. Slocumb a place to stay. I thought that was kind of him. Everyone else was working on their excuse.
Captain Peacock's excuse was legitimate, at least. His wife was fiercely jealous and violent-tempered.
He really didn't though. He lives with his mother in a 2-bedroom home and told her that they didn't have a spare bed for her to sleep in. So if she wanted to stay at his place they'd have to share his bed and "snuggle up" together, which obviously she wouldn't do. So, Mr. Lucas actually didn't offer her a place to stay but he had a legitimate reason why since there's no room for her
But Mr Harmon was genuinely helpful - showing a side to his character that we didn't often see.

I've seen KUA twice (in its entirety)when it was on Netflix (don't know if they are still are). Keeping up Appearances is simply hilarious (Hyacinth is just amazing). Rose and the neighbor (forgot her name, sorry).
@@marinazagrai1623 Elizabeth and Emmet were the next door neighbors.
No, they aren't.
Anyone else here that would get excited when seeing "Keeping..." in the guide/channel list but was let down when I saw it was "Keeping Up With The Kardashians"??
Best episode. What a cross cat
Hello how are you doing?
I loved this show so much! It's so good to see it again and especially this episode! I used to watch it late night on PBS along with Keeping up Appearances, Waiting for God, and Red Dwarf.
As Time goes by is also entertaining.
Love Ms Slocombe's hair color!
This is one of my favorite episodes but I like them all, even with the changing supporting characters--always keeping the main ones who are the stars of this show.
It's incredible that no one who calls themselves her friends can't be bothered to offer her a place to sleep for one night, except Mr. Lucas. But when everyone's stranded, she's the one who takes them in.
That is the way it is more often than not in real life.
EXACTLY*😮😠😠😠😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬
And, BTW, Captain Peacock's "*Reason*": (IMHO*):was BOGUS 😠😡🤬
MY* Opinion, for what it's worth, is:
WHO would WANT HIM*, ANYWAY 😠😡🤬
..with HIS OL' ARROGANT*, SUPERCILIOUS*, KNOW-It-ALL*, "*(SIR*) David Niven* Wanna-be*" Self..:😠😡🤬
I guess, he, and that HATCHET -FACED Harridan, his Wife: were MADE, for each other 😠😡🤬
Mrs Slocome is so lovely in this episode and love her hair colour
Giving Mrs. Slocombe from Are You Being Served... AMAZING AND I LOVE IT.
This is my favorite episode. For some reason watching these episodes before bed soothes me. I guess it reminds me of my childhood when I use to watch it on PBS. Thank you for posting them ❤
This is my favorite of all.. I love her flat..
Carolyn Sparks I know! I wouldn't mind living, in the upper floor, of a high end department store!❤️
Deidra Boswell I totally agree with you..
;-)))
@@carolynsparks3164 or a stage set lol
This aired on our local PBS affiliate four nights a week at 11:00pm.
I had already seen every episode multiple times before finding them again on UA-cam. They never get old.
Thanks for posting these.
Best final line in sitcom history🤣🤣
