Oh, writing this in 2024.
I simply love each and every episode of this show. I started watching it over 15 years ago when it was aired Saturday nights at 9pm. I was disappointed when it was no longer available. It is very refreshing to be able to access it via this platform. I am really delightfully caught up in the idea of shopping in such a personalized environment. Mr. Grace's comment about Mr. Lucas: " That boy's an idiot isn't he?" I tend to replay that over and over. Mr. Grace doesn't say much but he's hilarious when he does!
Now, AYBS is absolutely brilliant writing for a comedy. Even the innuendos are written and performed with a touch of class. No comparison to the USA's 'in your face like it or not' low brow, dimwitted comedy television. Each episode impelled good laughter from start to finish.

John Inman almost losing it when Frank Thornton does the spit take is everything. 😂 I wish we could see bloopers from this show over the years. With a cast this great they must have been hilarious in themselves!
The shows were low budget, and film was very expensive in england, therefore they were recorded live, unedited so no bloopers. If you watch closely you will often see an actor brake character, mess up a line and try to correct it, as well as step on another actors line. You can tell the quality of actor watching these old shows.
I've watched this show nightly, ( as many a new girlfriend would testify to lol ) for literally years on end, and I just now realized that the guy buying the brown gloves in the scene with Mr. Grainger and Mr. Lucas, is the same gentleman who played Mr. Beechum in the episode " the junior. " And yes I truly do enjoy watching this show and watch it on a nightly basis so long as I have access to a computer, phone, tablet etc etc and I still get laughs from it. The characters are amazing, the actors talented, beyond the ordinary. Their acting alone was brilliant enough but most of them could also dance and sing beautifully, some could play the piano quite well as Capt. Peacock showed us. The writing was wonderfully done by some creative minds that have brought me many a laugh in other shows as well. But I think my most favorite thing to see while I am watching this show or" commenting below, ' is the fact that the comment section of every " Are you being served " on every channel in the entire realm of youtube is super positive and pretty much hate free. In a time when platforms like youtube and other "social media" are used to be dis respectful and horribly mean to one another, it is nice to read really up beat and funny comments like I find here without all the petty meanness. Thank you all for making one place on the internet that is sane.
I got some hate here today so I let them have it. But I still believe that, in general I come across sweet hearted folks and sometimes feel the love we have for the show transfers to "fellow fans" , as I say, because we're connecting and with the show, celebrating life. Nobody's perfect but we're actually laughing together with the Grace Brothers gang and with the world, and that makes it worthwhile.
Hate free? Oh, I don't know. I HATE the fact that there were only a few episodes of this show. There should have been 25 or so a year, for at least ten or fifteen years. Can you even imagine. If only.
Love the show one of my many favorite British comedies they don’t make classic comedies like these anymore it’s great that a whole cast can mess well and get along so great loved Mr. Granger his facial expressions were hilarious truly a great cast I’m glad the show is in reruns I watch it every chance I can get
Miss Brahms looks like a member of the upper class gentry until she opens her mouth: "Yes, 'ow much is they? They can knock 'em out for such a low price! I like 'em, I think they're dead sexy!" Wendy Richard was so funny!
Gloria Cowan He retired and therefore left the show when his wife passed away. But his retirement was cut short when he himself passed away less than a year after his wife’s death.
Gloria Cowan In the defense of that documentary’s producers, it may be an easy mistake they made. The actor’s retirement lasted only 8 months and it was after the season was completed. When the next season started with an other actor instead of him, they may have thought it was because of the actor’s death. But his death was merely a coincidence. He was never meant to be in that next season.
You reminded me of a joke an American acquaintance of mine used to tell. An American wife asked her husband, "Honey when I am older and my hair is grey, will you still love me?" He replied "Sure Honey, just like I loved you through all the other colours."
@@msbrowngault I should have elaborated...infancy as far as sitcoms...shows were not really on the funny side. We're not considering Rowan's/Martin's Laugh-Ins. Writers were testing the ground with such a topic as this (Slocombe's "pussy", and Humphries being "gay").
"What else is money for? I'm rich, I live alone. Perhaps you'd like to come up to my place and have a drink?" "Oh I don't think I could afford that." 🤣🤣🤣

Some of those bit-parts in AYBS were actually played by established actors, such as Rene (actor Gordon Kaye) from "Allo Allo". Most Brit series did full credits to everyone appearing.
There’s one episode where they are all sitting in the canteen and Trevor, Wendy, and Mollie all break character after a line from Arthur Brough. It’s so perfect and they pick up their next lines like magic. What an amazing cast.
9:36: *"To what does that refer, Mr. Granger?"* They actually spoke proper English back in those days. You won't see that in today's sitcoms, either in England or America.
They were all superb actors, but to me Mr. Peacock was unsurpassable- that scene at the canteen table! I know these episodes by heart yet they still make me laugh.
Right after Mrs. Slocombe arrives, I swear Nicolas Smith forgot his line but John Inman saved it like a pro. "Mr. Rumbold would like to know why you're late"

Thank You Mr. Grace!!
One of the few episodes where Mr Rumbold and Cpt Peacock go against their normal stodgy characters, Cpt Peacock spitting out his drink and Mr Rumbold cracking a series of puns
Rumbold was a laugh. He reminds me of Eric Morecambe.
I think I like this show completely because of all the wacky procedures they go through. It always makes me feel just a little bit better about my own job each time I watch.
Gave birth to 2 or 3 month old kittens. Amazing how England is so progressive!
Just walk about and look normal....
Lol. Mr Humphreys.
When Mr. Lucas said, the cat bag just gave birth to a ball point pen and Mr. Humphreys replied, oh it's a boy, I died.
"Miss Brahms! You are supposed to be buying, not selling!"
