Love Kent's Hawaiian shirt at the warmup! These videos were actually taken by me when I was 17-year old, SCV followin' fan. Too bad I didn't know how to hold a camera steady. Murray G.
I forgot how tall center tenor was. It was hysterical to see him play the feature. Bent down, arms all the way extended to get down to the other guys, banging out nasty singles. Good times.
middlespaces I remember years ago meeting you at a show in Columbus Ohio. We thought you guys were incredible. My brother and I marched bluecoats snare that year.
@@roddunham8887 Ouch. Wow - the beautiful irony in this fact: SCV lost in '87, when they probably should have won, then won in '89 when they probably should have lost to Phantom (that night). All four shows were fantastic.
Yea, i noticed those drum heads back then as well. They were almost a yellow color. They still sound like snare drums in this video. The snares today sound more like kitchen counter tops
the only mylar head superior to its sister counterparts was the marathon 8913 from Premier that thing could be cranked and still get the articulate kevlar sound and rebound of mylar wish they still made it
3:50 - let's go yes on gauntlets, no shirt for this warmup. Seems comfy. And he is rocking that mullet. I heard a judges tape from finals of this year a long time ago, it was phenomenal.
@shpinxman90 I loved SCV's show that year but if you have a chance catch the high angle vier on Cadets show...... I went to West Chester University where some of the judges taught. They were awestruck.
@flugel76 I agree with you. They marched better(what's the big hurry today?), the music was better, the color guard marched(remember that?), off the line..... Drum Corps was fun then, it was kinda grass rootsy, the corps, although competitive, hung out and cheered for one another in between balongne sandwiches.DCI is played out, too much chops, pretentious, cliched. It really lost me when I saw one corps wearing........SPANDEX! Bring back the Bridgemen.
I never knew how they were spelled.I just went with the pronunciation...I think ross102591 is correct in his analysis...Thanks for clarifying that for me :)
My favorite show of all time was 1987 SCV. Saw it live in Madison. I love drum corps but am losing interest in today’s shows which have unrecognizable music and requires a PhD in psychology to understand.
My favorite of all time, too!!! But you saw it live - man! Also - what's with today's shows turning every member of the horn line into some kind of interpretive dance dropout?

Confessions of a future SCV legend.
Is it just me or do these drums sound 1000% better than what they are playing today?
They were Kevlar top heads and plastic bottom headsets believe on the snares. Ralph always had his snares tuned really well.
@@ramonrincon2356 kevlar top and mylar bottom is underrated imo.

Fun fact - the age outs are in their 50s now.
5:07 Gotta love what looks like to be Glen Crosby drinking one down, NICE!
That's me on center snare! Funny stuff.

What's your social media?
1987 Santa Clara Finals Show was, in my opinion, the best ever show not to win the title!
With 1989 Phantom Regiment right there as well...

nary a drum stand to be seen in that warm-up arc.

Well 6 years later they go back to a more traditional sound. Thank god. Love Bluecoats tuning.
SCV was the first corps to use Remo Kevlar Drum Heads on the snare drums, I wanted one so bad on my snare drum in the drum corps that I was in 1987.

It was thrilling listening to their horn line warming up in Madison circa 1986.
Listen to that freakin' Book!!! Ralph is the all-time baddest ass in this activity!!

Gotta love 13!
This is the first time a corps used the "flam" heads.

blonde mullet instructor is that Glen Crosby?
yep one of the greats right there

What corps was that?
Tyrone Hardiway - Center Snare

@drbcrb no it is not you. The '80's was Drum Corp best decade, '70's next, 60's, then 90's and what we now last.
