Superb filming. Really like the distant perspective pans placing 'train in landscape'. The clean sounds of approaching and receding locos you have recorded are excellent. Well avoided distracting camera shutter noises from rail fans; this can't have been easy at some locations. The Glenfinnan Viaduct sequences are breathtaking. 45379 slowly disappearing into the cutting is very nice. Thank you.
Thanks for your kind words, we have been lucky to have so many locomotives at our disposal and the will power of volunteers and owners who provide these scenes for our enjoyment. Regards, Liam
There's nothing to beat the sound of a powerful steam locomotive pulling hard at speed - well, not unless you can add the earth tremors and smell! Magnificent.
I remember a story once in the book "Footplate Over The Mendips" of the fireman of Bullied Pacific 34028 working a Pines Express from Bath - Bournemouth over the S&D(load 11), piloted by a 2P over the Mendips, but from Evercreech Jc to Bournemouth West was solo. On leaving Poole up Parkstone Bank the loco slipped to a stand then awaited assistance which came in the form of a Black 5 from the rear, which buffered up, and pulling it's own 10 coaches and pushing the Bullied plus it's 11, got the whole train on the move before the Bullieds driver even opened the regulator!!! That proves what an immense loco the Black 5's really are! Love this video, and a great tribute to the locos.
I grew up with black 5's in the late 30's and early 40's. We only got excited when a Burgundy (LMS) or green (LNER) named express engine flew past. How times have changed.
What a magnificent and superb compilation of the black fives taken over a number of years. Perfectly composed each time with wonderful British scenery. Greetings from the Train Lord in South Australia.
Great engines & great video. My personal favourite ‘5’? Has to be 45110 as I have driven and fired her. Closely followed by (4)5407 principally for its performance on the bottom leg of the Cumbrian Mountain Express on 29th July 1981 with 13 coaches... Thanks for posting👍
Hey let's see steam grab the mail on the fly thats why we're here!! Steam purist pans camera with loco hahaha. Magpie sounded awesome on the NYMR! So many great shots wonderful compilation! Black 5s are one of the best! Great cine film mate!!
I've seen 3 Black Fives in the span of just over a year: No. 5000 at Locomotion, plus 5428 "Eric Treacy" and 44806 (which I call Lostock Hall) at the NYMR. They're ok and powerful machines, but after you've seen three they become a little less impressive. I'll be honest: I'm a bit sick of seeing Eric Treacy, as it's been running every time I've been on the NYMR since June 2023.
45337 has sadly been nothing but trouble, from Day 1, on the Llangollen Railway. He caused more than 7 lineside fires just outside Carrog Station, and earned this title: my Dodgy Black 5 Brother. He's been out of action with boiler problems of some sort, for a few years now. I'm sure he'll be running again someday, but only time will tell if the day will come when he steams again. Commiserations to the footplate crews who had the misfortune of finding this out on the move. It's good to know the 9 other Black 5s have been running without troubles. What's not to love about the Jack of all Trades?
LIKEWISE THE GWR HALL 46O'S, BR CLASS 4 76000 460'S AND BR CLASS 5 73000 460'S !!!!, OF WHICH THERE ARE SEVERAL MEMBERS OF EACH CLASS FORTUNATELY PRESERVED !!!. I WELL REMEMBER THE DRIVERS ON THE 76000 BR CLASS 4'S ON LOCAL PASSENGER TRAINS LEAVING BROCKENHURST FOR SOUTHAMPTON AND EASTLEIGH WITH A CHEEKY WINK GIVING THEIR STEEDS ALL THEY HAD WITH ALMOST FULL REGULATOR, SO THE LOCOS DEPATHED VERY VOCIFEROUSLY WITH A VERY LOUD SHARPM BARK ECHING LOUDLY EVERYWHERE AS THEY CROSSED THE ROAD CROSSING. BROCKENHURST WAS UNIQUE WITH STEAM ON MANY MAIN LINE AND LOCAL PASSENGER TRAINS TILL THE END OF STEAM ON THE SOUTHERN IN JUNE / JULY 1967, PLUS ON THE LYMINGTON BRANCH, ON WHICH 41312 HAULED THE VERY LAST NORMAL PASSENGER TRAIN ON THE LAST TRIP TO LYMINGTON TOWN AND BACK ON ON SUN 2ND APRIL 1967. AT LYMINGTON THE BRANCH, THE LAST TRAIN OF THAT DAY THAT ONLY WENT TO LYMINGTON TOWN, WHEN IT WAS THE VERY LAST EVER STEAM LOCO TO RUN AROUND A TRAIN ANYWHERE IN THE UK, ON THIS THE THIS THE VERY LAST ENTIRELY STEAM WORKED BRANCH LINE IN THE UK !!!. IN MAY BLACK 5 45493 STRUGGLED OUT OF BROCKENHURST WITH LOTS OF SLIPPING ON THE FAMOUS YORK TO POOLE TRAIN, THAT I WAS ON TO THERE FROM BASINSTOKE. IN AUTUMN 1966 STANDARD CLASS 5 73093 BARKED VERY LOUDLY OUT OF BROCKEMHURST AT CIRCA 0530 < SLIPPING A VAN BACK TO THE DOWN BAY IN THE PROCESS > ON THE OVERNIGHT WATRLOO TO BOURNEMOUTH TRAIN THAT HAD A WARSHIP DEISEL HYDRAULIC VIA ALTON TO WINCHESTER !!!. I WAS ON THE YORK TO BOURNEMOUTH WEST FROM BASINGSTOKE TO BOURNEMOUTH WEST BEHIND 6991 ACTON BURNELL HALL ON THE AUGUST BANK SATURDY IN 1965, WHICH I FOUND OUT OVER 50 YEARS LATER WAS THE LAST TIME TIME A GWR STEAM LOCO WORKED TO BOURNEMOUTH. NEVER TOO THIII THIS DAY REPEATED IN PRSERVATION !!!. ON A WATERLOO TO EXETER TRAIN IN LATE 1966 THAT I WAS ON TO TISBURY, IN IN LATE 1966, THE VERY RARE MOTIVE POWER FOR THAT ROUTE WAS BLACK 5 45222. I ALSO VERY RARELY SAW 45222 RUNNING LIGHT JUST WEST OF BROCKRNHURST WHERE THE LYMINGTON PIER BRANCH GOES OFF THE MAIN LINE. ALSO ON TUES 31 AUGUST 1966, THE LAST TUESDAY OF MARYLEBONE TO NOTTINGHAM TRAINS, I SAW 45222 RUNNING LIGHT AT AT NOTTINGHAM VICTORIA WHICH I REACHED ON THE 1638 FROM MARYLEBONE THAT WAS VERY RARELY HAULED ALL THE WAY BY LMS 8F 280 48617 !!. THOSE WERE THE VEY HAPPY DAYS, NEVER TO BE REPEATED EWXACTLY TRULY REPEATED IN PRESERVATION !!!.HOSE WERE THE GOOD OLD HAPPY DAYS, NEVDR TO BE REPEATED !!!!.
@DuckController unfortunately not, too much time and effort has gone into making this video just to hand out for free. Though my videos are always free to watch despite the odd unskippable add. Regards

So glad to see that Henry’s family is still alive and operating on the rails!
Now just see Henry pulling a hocus-pocus "truck-stealing" train across the viaduct X_D
@sketchysaturn1740 That's what the TVS would tell you. If you default to the Railway Series, Henry is indeed a Black 5.
Too bad the same can't be said for Thomas.
I may be American, but I can't help but notice how well you British built your own iron horses. And that stack talk too, I like it.
I'm also American. Hopefully one day I'll move to the UK to see these beautiful steam locomotives
Me too
Thank you for your nice comment.
That stack talk someday will make me go deaf of how loud it is, but I still enjoy it
Stack talk reminds of strasburg 475

Many thanks and great to hear of past memories.
First British steam I ever heard as a kid in the early 1970's was a recording of a Black Five. Still a big fan!
That is a real life Henry right there from Thomas and Friends

Something about the Black Five makes it look strong and powerful.
2:00 Spamcan watched in disgrace as with a whistle, a rattle, and a roar, Henry thundered past with the royal mail train in tow!
More in disgust and disgrace. He detests steam engines.
@@TheLazyFusspot_3428 Good point I’ll change it.
that's just a class 45
@@petecartwright1622Well, the class 46 and 45 look the same so it really doesn’t matter much does it?
That honestly sounds like something that would have come from The Railway Series
I'm listening to Henry's theme while watching this! ^_^
Excellent short videos of black fives working hard and sounding great
What a magnificent and superb compilation of the black fives taken over a number of years. Perfectly composed each time with wonderful British scenery. Greetings from the Train Lord in South Australia.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
The good old black 5! Lovely steam engines and nice camera work, all that smoke and whistles are beautiful 📽👍🏽🚂😍
Generally very capable locos. Looked good too.
Fun Fact The LMS Black 5 was Henry's real life model
After his post-Flying Kipper rebuild, that is.
A magnificent compilation form start to finish, Liam and Phil. Many thanks for the joy of watching. Kind regards, Bob
That whistle and exhaust!!! 😍😍😍
And The paint work! They all Look Amazing!
Stanier hooters do sound wonderful!!!
Railway videos are starting to appear in my UA-cam feed again! Finally!! :-)
That second to last shot is quite a view!! :-)
Love the sound they make at high power
Great engines & great video.

Very excellent black 5
I love watching Black 5s just passing by so majestically and gracefully pulling it's coaches
I love your videos. I'm also enjoying the 4k quality. British steam locomotives are the finest in the world...I reckon, anyway!

BLOODY MARVELOUS FILMING, WELL DONE YOU LOT!!!
0:00 henry pulling the express
Once an engine attached to a train, was afraid of a few drops of rain. It went into a tunnel, squeaked through its funnel & never came out again.
Henry: Express coming through!
Gordon: but that’s my line!
Henry pulling the mail
Now this, this is a video I bloody love
High five, Black five! 👍❤️👋

This reminds me of Henry from Thomas and friends
Because that _is_ Henry, his basis actually.

11:35 seems as though that person filming got a bit of paper in their face.
There is an on board video to that on YT. As the person hit with the bag was filming.
Fantastic sound oft whistle
Still the best!
