Astounding!! Your videos continue to get better and better - which isn't easy to do when you've made such terrific videos for years! Thank you for your hard work to make these videos!!!
How ironic! I commented about the short trains as opposed to those from Kentucky. We had a medium-sized intermodal/auto rack and then a fabulously long intermodal/auto rack/intermodal that had over 180 cars by my count! Awesome and amazing! What a catch, JT!!! I'm thoroughly impressed! 😃😃😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have hiked this line to the tunnel and it is impressive , ridden my mountain bike from the depot up the hill to Monteagle , TN ; BRUTAL climb , but worth the effort. This is great country , glad you had fun here , watch out for Rattlesnakes !! This grade and the one at Sand Mountain have tested the skills of generations of engine crews . Thanks for posting .
I have hunted many year on both sides of tunnel there is a vent on both sides. Train going thought will flip you hat off going in and suck your hat off leave
"The Pusher Job"; that's what they call it. My son is an engineer on the pusher job (up Sand Mountain) just north of Cullman at Lacon, AL. And they cut loose on the fly there also. Special locomotive with equipment that allows them to do that. Thanks for the video, Brian.
Great area to watch trains. That helper action is really something different and makes the experience more interesting. I’m from the western part of the state and used to visit the area while one of my daughters was attending school in Chattanooga (another great railfanning area). Thanks for the vid.
And another awesome video JT man I’m glad y’all enjoying yourself down there and catching a lot of trains. I can’t wait to see the rest of you videos from Tennessee and Georgia but anyway you stay safe out there my friend and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one
Nice to see these towns, no matter how large or small, remembering their railroad history! Any idea what the 2E and 78 mean on the historic marker sign for the Depot? Nice catch of that helper breakaway on the incline! Always enjoy seeing Brandi and the new cat hasn’t figured out the cat door yet? Good video from the Volunteer State!
I spotted the Texaco station as you were positioning for the first train. Old station well preserved. Bring back good memories. You can trust your car to the man who wears the star. That big red Texaco star!🎶the commercials would sing. Great trains. We enjoyed the dip. Nice little town
Re: those "manned" pushers @32:00...I can't recall if, or when, I've even heard anything so powerful as those two GE's...my earbuds were vibrating💓😵💫!!! That is raw FDL power in force!! Worth waiting for, JT 👌👌👍👍
Yes that WAS a good video. Lots of trains, big Blue Freddy on one of them and saw the helpers knock down the signal for the siding. Thanks for sharing. 👍
I really enjoy all the info. you include about the locations of your videos.I don't know how you can improve these videos but some how you manage to do so.GREAT VIDEO Brian👍👍
Another fabulous mixed manifest with 170 cars! Among the cars were 5 loads of heavy plate steel, a mid-train DPU, and 2 rear DPUs. That's the kind of train rail fans like me dream of! Thank you, my friend!! 😃😃😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍
That was a pretty little setting there where that depot is surrounded by all the green grass. (I live in the desert, so love to see green!) Thanks, JT!!
Hey jaw tooth nice area. Cool train display by station. Awesome trains passing. That's quite a grade. Definitely need helper units there. Have a great railroad day. 🚂🙋♀️
Never saw a 242 Columbia in real life. They made millions of those by Lionel and Marc train but I never saw one in real life until now. Fantastic catch!
JT, thank you for the spectacular trains and scenery today. I believe I've run out of things to say about them. The very best part was seeing your lovable pets! Brandi was the icing on the cake! Please tell them all I said hello! I sure look forward to the videos from the road trip! Thanka again and be safe! 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great train action from Cowan TN. with a nice train station, old trains and a caboose, also some DPU'S, an awesome view of the trains as they go by and of course the awesome amazing live action pets and music slide show as always Thank You Jaw Tooth.🚂🚃🚃🇺🇲
Another beautiful video, Brian. Your shoots are always beautiful spots. This town of Cowan, Kentucky almost into Georgia, (my mistake, I read a few comments down - Alabama) is a beautiful quiet little American town. I will have to look on a map to see about where this is. The train shots are always excellent and so are the shots of the buildings, trees and your commentary gives us information that helps us to enjoy the videos so much more. Thanks, Brian. I was just thinking, why hasn't one of those railcar artists thought to paint one of the tank cars like the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile? That would be a hoot. Dontcha think????
Thanks 👍 We were at the Tennbridge and a guy who used to work for the railroad down here told us about Cowan. that last train was exactly what I was hoping to catch. After waiting for a few hours after the coal train we were starting to wonder if there were many trains here. We were lucky to get that last one. Thanks again for the Super Chat support Mark! I appreciate it and have a great week!
Super video JT, lots going on. Great train station and Texaco station. Nice intermodal. I really liked it. Never saw those pusher engines before. Stay safe. ❤
Nice location Brian (1) the bang you heard was the slack running out from the helper engine cutting off on the fly … (2) the engines after cutting off were waiting on the dispatchers instructions ( once stopped you have to get permission to proceed ) (3) at 93 degrees all trains are operating on a “ computer generated “ heat order which reduces train speed substantially which effects the entire operation of these subdivisions. (4) cutting off on the fly is simply dangerous with the lengths of todays trains and the brake pipe hoses not being connected… you and Scott 👍~~~
Riding to Work. Warren Buffett,,,has been looking for that box car ! Rail date's 💯👍. Chattanooga TN. .. East-West,,,, North -South railroad hub 👍. On the fly,, disconnect 😮😮.
While there is no Street running Cowan does bear a resemblance to a laid-back tourist oriented town. with friendly people. Besides the depot and the railroad displays by it @27:00 is the two-story brick building a former Tower or yard office building? Just watching the coal train bearing down on the hill It must climb was great. Then to see the units cut off on the Fly and then tuck themselves in the yard was great. On occasion we're still lucky here in Wisconsin to witness that on occasion south of Fond du Lac WI as some freights need an extra boost on Byron Hill. A touch of the South with the names on the CRYX cars. @28:13 BUBBA and @28:45 Possum Hollow. So thanks for the tour down in Dixie
I think that was an old railroad building but I couldn't find any info on it. This might be the first time I have seen a locomotive cut off on the fly. That was cool. Thanks for watching and commenting Paul!
Really an interesting place. I grew up in Nashville & my first job after graduate school (Vanderbilt, 1963) was at the AEDC in Tullahoma, maybe 20 miles north. It is an interesting line over the mountain here with a long tunnel at the top that predates the Civil War. The grade is steep both ways but this is really the only serious obstacle on the "J" line. While Normandy hill is steep it does not require a pusher. The dip does show in the camera and it is odd that going south there is a descending grade through Cowan than immediately a steep ascending grade all the way to the tunnel. I have been here many times. Jerry Sullivan, retired from Southern & CSX
Another awesome video. The Texaco station looks like one from a model railroad!! Vintage!! Love it. Never seen the whistle post before. Pure Americana!!❤
I grew up in Tennessee, northwest from there. I think that is the same line that comes out of Nashville and runs down through Smyrna and Murfressboro. There was a sandwich shop when I was young in Smyrna that set right off the tracks. When you were in there and a train was coming, it sounded like it was gonna come through the building. It was very awesome.
I really liked that old depot and steam engine Jawtooth. Long trains with DPUs and helper units. Back in my day we ran helper units and we didn’t even have DPUs then. We’ve came along way. I did really enjoy my engineer days though! Hey cool video!👍❤️
That was SOME video JT, I’m surprised the helpers cut off before the summit of the climb. Thank you for enduring the heat so that we armchair railfans can sit back drinking beverage of choice!
Awesome location Jawtooth! Beautiful old depot and old locomotives! Great catches there! Awesome old Texaco station I have a couple of those old pumps that are the real thing!👍
JT, that boxcar looks 19th century to me. Older than any of the other stuff there except the courthouse. Hey, there's a railroad tunnel about a mile or so east toward that dip. You have to walk/ride a trail to get to it. It was an important point in the Civil War. We never got to see helpers cutting on the fly before. Knew they could but never saw it. Now that was cool. Thanks for the great videos! I often watch them 1st thing in the morning while enjoying a cup of coffee. Sometimes I stay to watch the pets and photos, sometimes not. I often wonder, do you still get credit for a “view” if I click away? I really like the videos where you and Jason (he’s in my neck-of-the-woods) join up “somewhere out there on the high iron” (credit to Danny H.) !
Yes, I still get credit if you just watch part of the video. The viewing time is what helps me. The more you watch the more likely you are to see a commercial and I get paid by the amount of commercials that you watch. I can make up to about a penny per video. Lol. That is usually what I average but some ppl watch several commercials while some click them off or they dont come up. Thanks for watching!
Brian great video as always........ What a awesome spot. Seeing those helpers on the back just disconnect was great. The 700 axle train is that the largest you've seen?

More to come!
Nothing replaces shade when sunny and hot. Nice straw hot!

That is a cool throwback Texaco gas station! '50s, '60s.... And that little courthouse. No room for a jury back then!
There wasn't even room for an Xray machine lol
"Well, in addition to being the Mayor and Town Council, I am also the Judge, Court Clerk, and the Jury. How do you plead?... Guilty! Got it!"
Cowan moved a closed train station and reopened it as a museum. What a great idea! Wonder if Hamilton will reopen theirs.
