This is both disturbing and funny, I love it. Also, this is an amazing teaser. It doesn't really spoil anything, yet it sets you in the right mood for the movie.
I managed to catch The Birds yesterday at the recent Fathom Events screening. It's still a great film, and even better on the big screen. This was actually my first Hitchcock film when I was a kid and it is my personal favorite of his work. A masterpiece of a film from a legendary filmmaker. In my opinion, there will never be another like him.
This film was partly shot in Bodega Bay and in San Francisco. I met Tippi Hedren a number of years ago. Really nice lady. She gave me an autograph. Go visit Bodega Bay it’s a neat little town!
I really love how Hitchcock really cares about his films. I would love to see other directors do something like this. I really liked how he really wanted to make an impact on his audience in the theaters. Directors now days don't seem to care as much. It's sad:(
Sometimes even when they do care the producers and the companies try to intervene and put on a unnecessary stuff like pop culture references and politics to appeal to specific demographics... Creative freedom doesn't exist anymore...
I reckon a lot of directors would love to do this, but not many of them have the screen presence that Hitchcock did. Maybe Martin Scorsese and David Lynch could pull off something along these lines. 🤔 But by the time trailers need to be made, they’re busy finishing the movies.
Just watched the movie for first time today 18/5/21, watching this trailer after watching the movie makes this trailer a million times better, movie and trailer are both masterpieces
Hitchcock could be extremely funny. On a Dick Cavett show in which he appeared, they went to a commercial break. The commercial featured a laxative. It starts with people playing tennis, bike riding and jogging. When they cut back to him after the commercial he says in his own inimitable voice: "With all that jumping about I would think they wouldn't need a laxative".
I remember seeing this for the first time as a child and chuckling at Hitchcock's one liners. Then Tippi Hedren busts through that doorway with the SFX and my stomach damn near hit the floor
Alfred Hitchcock was certainly an interesting guy, I read behind the scenes he was anything from a troll/innocent prankster to being sadistically cruel with some of them... The more I read about him the more I feel I should watch his movies...
No wonder the birds turned on them. "The birds are our slaves- I mean friends" I was looking for an explanation as why they attacked on the film, who knew the answer would be on the trailer.
Its amazing we are all so oblivious as to why they would attack to the point we'd need it explained to us. Never knew why the birds attacked either. Now it seems obvious. And it shows the horror in how we have so heavily normalised our abuse of animals .
@@petitpois2281 The story goes, Hitchcock doesn't reveal what the spark was at any point on purpose to spark discussion among the audience. According to Revelation 19:17-18 though, this movie is a preview of future events.
He did the same thing with the Psycho trailer, the same dark humor, and showing almost nothing of the movie. Contrast with the modern approach of showing most of the best bits of the movie in the trailer. Hitchcock knew that if you wanted people to anticipate the movie, sometimes less is more.
"How do you do?" Of course he would greet you like that. Which reminds me of his excellent TV series where his face would appear at the beginning saying "Good Evening" in such a distinct and entertaining way that it could never be forgotten. How fortunate we are to be able to witness the incredible products of his imagination however many times we want.
On the contrary, I think Hitchcock was a movie artist before Kubrick was. He had very specific shots in mind and made damn sure they were done right. The biggest difference is that Hitchcock didn't worry about irrelevant things, such as the color of the war room table in "Dr. Strangelove." It was shot in black and white, but Kubrick insisted that the table have green felt, making it akin to poker table to illustrate how the people within were gambling with the world.
There's a great reason for this movie to be made..............it was a message send by Alfred about what the human species have done to the birds! Makes sense!
As he went on, and on, and on, describing mans relationship with birds I kinda didnt want to watch the trailer anymore, everything he described was so disturbing and horrific, yet I couldnt stop. Saw the movie by the way, it was horrifying.
+Thomas Henry I saw the movie long before I saw the trailer. While I was watching the film I kept thinking, "What's wrong w/ these birds?" Then I watched this trailer and it all made so much sense.
No, but it was basically an act. Besides being one of the greatest and most original film stylists in history, Hitch was basically a mild mannered big baby (with a great sense of humor) who was afraid of everything...and he was the first to admit it.
Imagine modern directors have a trailers like this, such as Spielburg explained about the dinosaurs for Jurassic Park or Nolan explained about Entropy for Tenet.
I kind of wish more directors did stuff like this. Make up a big set-up but revealing nothing from the actual movie. Hitchcock was brilliant at doing this.
As a misanthropic antinatalist, I must say the Birds is my favorite Hitchcock film. I hope animals get their revenge on humanity very soon. May we soon go extinct.
So ironic, but so well put! a genius even in speaking! love ya Alfred! This was a real scary one! may you rest in Peace, Alfred... Melody Fox (aka the Princess of Rock) Love Peace Music ☆♫♫LPM♫♫☆
I can see your point. Although there are good people there are also bad people. But are animals good or evil? I never believe animals are evil because they don't have laws like we humans do. They don't know that stealing and killing is wrong and we do! I'm sorry if I have offended you. From Virginia Clark. 😀😢🐦🦉🦆🦅🕊🦕🦖🐒🐶🐱.
What a character. I love that Hitchcock seemed to genuinely like his own movies. And who could blame him? The Birds is excellent to this day.
This is both disturbing and funny, I love it. Also, this is an amazing teaser. It doesn't really spoil anything, yet it sets you in the right mood for the movie.
Maybe some still find it creepy but I find it hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
I Liked how he introduced the video by saying “how do you do?” Very proper.

I wish they made trailers like these nowadays
Hitch also appeared in the Psycho trailer, giving the audience a morbidly-humored tour of the Bates house.
Max Power I know, I'm a die-hard Hitch fan.
Please, trailers now all have the same format. For that matter, many movies nowadays have the same format
The closest thing we have to these type of trailers are the featurettes
Major Kong that was my favorite trailer
This and the Psycho trailer are my two favorite trailers. I love how they both showed nothing yet gave away everything.
19 kilo Except the people didn't know until they eventually saw the picture
The Terminator 2 teaser showed Arnold's design
Now, this IS a proper trailer.
I wish we had more trailers like this, especially for Black Mirror and Love, Death and Robots.
“I don’t believe in dealing with controversial matters.” This man truly was a GENIUS.
I got a laugh out of that one.
I love this guy's classy and subtle sense of humour.
Why do we not have trailers like this any more? Simply brilliant.
Less creative freedom
This film was partly shot in Bodega Bay and in San Francisco. I met Tippi Hedren a number of years ago. Really nice lady. She gave me an autograph. Go visit Bodega Bay it’s a neat little town!
Also filmed in the town of Bodega (schoolhouse scenes). The original Tides restaurant and Mitch's family home are long gone.
Oh this great sense of humour, I just love it.
What the hell happened? Movie trailers used to captivate us just like this. We need new Hitchcocks!
Hitchcock was just brilliant at maken movies. He always made himself a star of the movie without being in it.
ollie rocker Actually he appeared in all his movies but just for a second and as a figurant, that’s even more brilliant !
For more reasons other than just the trailers...
Dude was a actor himself.

For sure

They have no patience
He was, he SO was. I LOVE his sense of humor... xD
Somehow I imagine him play Alfred in the Batman series! :)
That would be an interesting role, plus it's ironic how his name is Alfred too.
Timothy Achacoso XD
Thanks now I can’t unsee that. It kind looks like Wayne manor from 66 show to. Now I will always see Alfred Hitchcock as Alfred the butler.
Alfred the cat
That would be awesome
Just watched the movie for first time today 18/5/21, watching this trailer after watching the movie makes this trailer a million times better, movie and trailer are both masterpieces
I find it interesting how he uses a lot of sarcasm, in order to get his point across.
Great trailer. Hitchcock's lecture lead us to believe that the birds will do exactly what they did in the movie, retaliate.
This is amazing . My closest friend who died young was just like this . It's incredible . My friend had this humour , body posture and delivery .
The greatest master of suspense the cinema world has ever known and he's great fun too!

Still one of the best movie teasers of all time!
Right. I saw the film when it came out in 1963, have watched it several times since, + the wonderful teaser too. Back here now for the umpteenth time.
Alfred Hitchcock was certainly an interesting guy, I read behind the scenes he was anything from a troll/innocent prankster to being sadistically cruel with some of them...
The more I read about him the more I feel I should watch his movies...
I know it’s two years later, but I wanted to keep the bit going

ebailey140 he actually did show something. He described the deaths and showed the sets of the film.
Most of his trailers were almost short films.
I'm watching a 1963 trailer movie in 2020 and it's 100 years ahead
A great educative film to teach us what we are doing to the Nature. It lets us ponder if we can reverse the trend
Have you seen Earthlings and Dominion? Heard of factory farming?
1:08
Like the sound when he says pluck
Genius
This is personally pretty damn hilarious when Albert Hitchcock is telling this whole story about man's relationship with birds 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The master is a concept himself of the seventh art. There won't be another Alfred Hitchcock!
Ima show this for my school project about birds
This guy was an inspiration for me when typing an 11th grade essay.
“It’s quite dead of course.” LOL!
Back when trailers didn't spoil.
I love the trailer. Not like trailers today that give it all away.
Droll and hilarious, yet this is also a serious commentary. Brilliant.
Satire! Satire everywhere
I swear to god I felt a chill in my whole body the second he talked
You see whats interesting about this trailer is (spoilers apologize) It Kiiiiiiiiinda explains why the birds are attacking in the movie.
Yeah but now I finally understand the point of the birds going apeshit
But it's all still a big joke.
I love this trailer. Don't see any scenes from the movie, but Mr. Hitchcock briefly lets you know what you're in for with the trailers.
Hitchcock's teaser trailers were a stroke of genius in their own right!
I've heard that if Kubrick was an artist for movies, Hitchcock was a writer for movies.
On the contrary, I think Hitchcock was a movie artist before Kubrick was. He had very specific shots in mind and made damn sure they were done right. The biggest difference is that Hitchcock didn't worry about irrelevant things, such as the color of the war room table in "Dr. Strangelove." Absolutely correct. He got rid of his fears by making movies about them.
God I love Hitchcock. He reminds me of my fat gray cat. Robust, superior and clever
The thing about this movie, the birds themselves are not what makes it scary. The deep, deep dysfunction of the humans is scary.
There's a great reason for this movie to be made..............it was a message send by Alfred about what the human species have done to the birds! Makes sense!
Hitch was the man.
What he said here made me appreciate the film even more. I am glad Hitchcock has misanthropic views., and he exactly knows why humanity sucks.
This movie has some of the best endings I ve seen un my life. I love how there aren't answers to a lot of questions. It just ends
A 5 minute teaser trailer filled with dry wit and subtle dark humor only Hitchcock can pull. Dude was brilliant.
I love how at 1:08 when he says “plucked” there’s a loud pluck from the violin, interesting detail there
Well he did direct the best horrors and thrillers from the 50s to the early 80s
I thank God for You. Love, Light, Peace, Music and Joy
This is a master peace I must say
The sarcasm is... relentless
Mr. Alfred, made good movies!
That's how you promote a movie!
Long Live Hitchcock
the sarcasm is fierce
Hitchcock. The master of suspense
No, but it was basically an act. Besides being one of the greatest and most original film stylists in history, Hitch was basically a mild mannered big baby (with a great sense of humor) who was afraid of everything...and he was the first to admit it.
“Alfred you got no style dog, I’m the king of dialogue!” Quentin Tarantino
I love him so much
That music sounds friendly and proper before there’s horror that will strike.
He made fun of his own horror flick, what a man.
Alfred has engineered the movie industry
Alfred Hitchcock wants to present a film he creeps out everyone.
"I don't believe in dealing with controversial matters."
Oh, man....🤣🤣🤣🤣
Imagine modern directors have a trailers like this, such as Spielburg explained about the dinosaurs for Jurassic Park or Nolan explained about Entropy for Tenet.
In the psycho theatrical trailer, they did the same style where it tricks you into thinking it's something happy.
3:44 this was ahead of its time
There are 7 billion humans and between 200 to 400 billion birds. Better start being nice to them!
I kind of wish more directors did stuff like this. Make up a big set-up but revealing nothing from the actual movie. Hitchcock was brilliant at doing this.
hitchcock is a master at shock. The birds story is thought to be a metaphor for the attacks on London during World War II, or The Blitz in particular.
my favorite director
This is absolute genius!
This man was a genius. Hilarious.
Gets bit by the bird, “Why would he do that?”
Didn't you get what the movie is about? Birds want war on mankind.
THE MASTER OF SUSPENSE. NO MORE TO BE SAID.
This is so passive-aggressive. I love it.
Just fantastic! What a genious he was! Funny and informative and then comes the scare. hahaha! I ljust love it!
As a misanthropic antinatalist, I must say the Birds is my favorite Hitchcock film. I hope animals get their revenge on humanity very soon. May we soon go extinct.
BATS WENT OFF BRO
It's pure genius
Wonderful ironic humour from Mr Hitchcock here.
Love this movie
Ah..The lost art of the director trailer. Check out the 10 Commandments trailer with DeMille if you need more. Good evening.
Such a unique trailer
This is the most creative movie I have ever seen 🐤🐦
They're coming! They're coming!
Brilliant trailer!
from whimsical to birds attackin classic
Why can’t film Director be in their trailers today.
I have got to see this movie one day... 🦅
