This trailer is PERFECT. It shows so much, but nothing at all! It alludes to points in the movie that hitchcock is obviously disturbed by, so he doesn't go into detail and skips over it. This makes us really want to know what he was talking about. Or when he looked in the closet and made a shocked and disturbed face, but didn't describe or show us what was inside. This is less a trailer for the movie and more of a trailer for Mr. Hitchcock's fabulous accent which is like a warm sweater and a glass of cognac on a cold day.
The fact that he sounds psychotic in a way because of how he describes the Gruesome murders then says "let's move along" with happy music is what gets to you. And the ending jumpscare is what you didn't expect to end it with. He was a true genius of his time!
The genius aspect of this trailer is it mentions nearly everything about the film in a subtle manner. But at the same time, people don't realize it until they watch the film.
Hitch actually did do it again, with a very witty trailer for « The Birds », presenting in his usual affable manner how humans mistreat and exploit birds.

woodyburns it's to make the situation seem almost cheery- this is purposeful irony, to make the toning down of a horrible act of manslaughter seem common. This confuses and alarms the audience, building on their suspense and then immediately cutting away, back to an obviously mocking reality. This takes a great toll on the audiences' nerves. The only way to ease their fear is to go see the film themselves.
He is wonderfully natural in front of a camera. I’ve watched Hitchcock in interviews but delivering scripted lines, he can be a delightful, English gentleman who slowly turns very sinister. Was Hitchcock an actor early on in his career? His delivery of, “the bathroom”, was perfect. To think there was a time where no one knew what that (i.e. the shower scene) was in reference to.

Saw this once decades ago in 6th grade class. The "this picture has great significance because..." still stays with me
One of the best trailers I've ever seen. Hitchcocks takes you, teases you and invites you to watch his movie on a excelent way. The only thing I would want to get rid of, are the happy melody's.
Tom Hamoen I would get rid of when he goes to the bathroom and sais that it looked very bloody and spoils the shower scene
I think it helps with Hitchcock's personality.
@@weirdguy1495 it really did
I’ve listened to the shower scene music live done by an orchestra and let me tell it’s really scary! Those screaming strings. The whole movie was stringed instruments I believe. So effective.
I have watched psycho so many times and still gives me chills
Just finished watching this classical masterpiece on my mobile and it's impossible to describe how much i have enjoyed this movie.
now i just want to write one thought here that, i have been watching this movie's trailer since i was child.there was time i can stil remember in 2006 to 2009 when the trailer of this movie used to come sony pix where one bathing girl got killed and this movies was always used to schedule in late night. at that time i was just 11-12 years old. but after many year when i grown up and started watching hollywood movies then i came to know that this movie is one of the psychological suspence thriller movie ever made in hollywood so i wanted to watch this movice since 2018 but for some reasons i have not watched this movie till today.
but today i got some free time and watched this spectacular movie which is absolutely splendid piece of writting and direction.

Will be seeing this set for the 4th time when I go on my road trip to L.A. April 6th.
This is less a trailer for the movie and more of a trailer for Mr. Hitchcock's fabulous accent which is like a warm sweater and a glass of cognac on a cold day.
A Trailer that DOES NOT show one clip of the film at all
Today's movie trailer's could learn from this
Leave it to Hitchcock to give us everything and nothing at the same time. In a movie trailer no less.
You can see how excited Mr. Hitchcock is! He just spoils the best scenes for us!
Fun fact: The design for Disneyland in Paris's Phantom Manor was inspired by the Bates' house.
The fact that he sounds psychotic in a way because of how he describes the
Gruesome murders then says "let's move along" with happy music is what gets to you. And the ending jumpscare is what you didn't expect to end it with. He was a true genius of his time!
The genius aspect of this trailer is it mentions nearly everything about the film in a subtle manner. But at the same time, people don't realize it until they watch the film.
@@josephpendleton4927 that and the somewhat comedy music changing dramatically into the famous scene of the film as well.
@@bovineapples7209 Yes, Hitchcock used to immediately switch from a comedy scene to an intense scene in his films.
@@josephpendleton4927 he was and always be a genius!
Well I won’t dwell upon it 😂
One of the best movie trailers! Hitchcock is so brilliant.
Modern Moviegoers: I hate how trailers spoil everything these days!
Alfred Hitchcock: Please hold my wine.
We need more trailers like this today 😂
why on earth has no one done this since? greatest trailer of all time imo
Hitch actually did do it again, with a very witty trailer for « The Birds », presenting in his usual affable manner how humans mistreat and exploit birds.
Nobody:
Not a single soul:
Alfred Hitchcock in 1960: 3:32 5:15
Summarizing this trailer: "Hey, look. I made a movie."
You see, this Trailer is not that 'Good' per say. Its not good at being a Trailer, but its good at doing the base purpose of Trailer. It makes you want to see the god damn film.
Then it's a great trailer!
That´s the point of a trailer. The new ones show all the good parts of the movie :P
"Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go make the movie I just described..."
Never realized that the movie had such an interesting trailer. Very revolutionary for it's time. Thanks Rob Ager.
Now This is how you hype a movie.
I never thought, i would see a 6 minute trailer....and love it...until this.
This film deserve an Oscar! It's so good
it was nominated for four Oscars but sadly lost all of them
Best director
Is it just me or is the family sitcom-ish music that's playing most of the time very odd?
like a fucked up Wonderful World of Disney
woodyburns it's to make the situation seem almost cheery- this is purposeful irony, to make the toning down of a horrible act of manslaughter seem common. This confuses and alarms the audience, building on their suspense and then immediately cutting away, back to an obviously mocking reality. This takes a great toll on the audiences' nerves. The only way to ease their fear is to go see the film themselves.
ProjectAnimation That does make a lot of sense
woodyburns Alfred Hitchcock's knowledge of fear and suspense was extraordinary- he continues to this day to surprise people with his unique methods. 😊
@@JulianneHannes lol!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, I wish I was around back then!
this is one of the best trailers for a film
he gave so little detail and a lot of details
he showed no clips from the actual film and i just ... wow
I wish more actual films are made like this. not all this marvel cgi fanservice stuff
This is one of the most brilliant trailers for a movie there ever was
That was fricking beautiful! He builded up the tension so fricking good!
I love it what he says at 3:51! Then he stops and continues looking around the place, lol.
Clever Clever Clever
It’s ironic that my daughter shares his birthday. Hitchcock is one of my favorite film directors and “ Psycho” one of the best thrillers ever made!!
The Mother of all teasers.
Hitchcock you’re a legend for directing the Psycho movies from 1 to 4.
He only directed the original. He was dead by the time the sequels came out.
This is still the best trailer for any film!
I love how the trailer didn't spoil the entire movie like how tailers nowaday
