That's exactly what I was thinking. I've only seen one Hitchcock movie so far ( it's Rear Window in case you're wondering ) and I'd like to see the others.
That's the first Hitchcock movie I saw too! His movies are truly amazing, I've just watched Psycho today and I'm in so much awe. Try watching Rope or the other Jimmy Stewart/Hitchcock movies. North by Northwest is an awesome and breathtakingly stylish film. Vertigo had one of the best twists ever and some others that don't make the cut like To Catch a Thief and Marnie are still really fun to watch.
1. Vertigo 2. Rear Window 3. Psycho 4. North by Northwest 5. Notorious 6. The Birds 7. Spellbound 8. Dial M for Murder 9. To Catch a Thief 10. Shadow of a Doubt
Vertigo and Rear Window both had the wrong stars together James Stewart should have had female co-stars nearer his own age. He was nearly 30 years older than Grace Kelly and Kim Novak. North by Northwest was iffy for the same reason, but Cary Grant could pull it off.
The thing that always bothered me about Vertigo is they never explain how Jimmy Stewart's character didn't fall to his own death at the start sequence.
Vertigo wasn’t well received at the time. That’s because it was waaaay ahead of its time, before audiences caught up with his genius. The best of them all.
It is phenomenal. With the exception of finding a place for Shadow of a Doubt I think this is an excellent list. Trouble is you cannot list 10 Great Hitches. There are so man
i love them both for very different reasons. Rear Window is so well crafted and visually stunning, while Psycho, also well crafted, is almost suffocating with it's dark character studies.
North By Northwest --all day, every day. It encapsulates all of Hitchcock'smost famous devices. Funny, highly romantic and, of course, suspensful. Cary Grant was never better.
You should add: “ in my opinion “, although I find Rear Window the most charming if his films. And people underrate Psycho just because it is a horror film, but once you drop the label the work emerges
haba3000 I would love to see that, since I thought Lamb to the Slaughter would be the perfect episode, due to the ending, a preggie (And Pre-Dallas) Barbara Del Geddes and his interludes at a grocery store.
Yep, But I think Stan Lee has to have surpassed Hitch number wise just doing movie cameos at this point....... Well actually no that's not the case at all when you think about it, Hitch was after all doing cameos in his films from his silent movie era in the 1920's all the way up to his last film Family Plot, (1976) That's what 50 to 60 years? 'Stan the Man' is just a newcomer in that regard, So Hitch is definitely still the movie cameo king bar none. ;-)
My three favorites are 1) Notorious 2) Vertigo 3) Rear Window. Notorious is the greatest Hitchcock film ever. A Masterpiece and one of my all-time favorites. Ingrid Bergman performs a phenomenal portrayal of a vulnerable character. Notorious also contains one of the most iconic and longest kiss in cinema history. Hitchcock uses his complete mastery of the camera to get away with the 3-second kiss rule and his shots with the keys are perfectly shown to the audience.
In my opinion, putting Psycho #1 identifies it as an unsophisticated list, one that prioritizes popularity over art, and is compiled by a young person and/or for a younger bubblegum-chomping audience.

Me too! I think Dial 'M' is highly underrated. Until someone pointed it out elsewhere, I didn't realize the scene where the murderer is lured into the plot goes on for a full half-hour. 1 room just 2 ppl yet it's riveting. The camera angles and movements that punctuate the conversation as the bait is taken and lured in is fabulous.
I love the fact you put in the clip of Alfred Hitchcock saying "I shall not act in these stories, but will only make appearances, something in the nature of an accessory before and after the fact.", and then put in each of Hitchcock's cameos of the films featured in this list before the position number and the film title was displayed. There was never a doubt what the #1 was going to be. I'd put Rear Window at number 1. One of the great masterpieces in movie history. For most of the movie the audience shares the perspective of the protagonist looking out at his neighbors. It's really an amazing film.
Rebecca should be near the top. It's genius is the the movie's namesake never makes an appearance yet is so central to the story. I favor North By Northwest, Notorious, Rear Window, and The Man Who Knew Too Much.
My top 15 25 - Frenezi (1972) 24 - Marnie (1964) 23 - Family Plot (1976) 22 - The Man Who Knew too Much (1934) 21 - Topaz (1969) 20 - Torn Courtain (1966) 19 - Young and Inocent (1937) 18 - Shadow of a Doubt (1943) 17 - Blackmail (1929) 16 - The Wrong Man (1957) 15 - Suspicion (1941) 14 - The 39 Steps (1935) 13 - To Catch a Thief (1955) 12 - Strangers on a Train (1951) 11 - Spellbound (1945) 10 - Dial M for Murder (1954) 9 - Notorious (1946) 8 - Rebbeca (1940) 7 - The Man Who Knew too Much (1956) 6 - The Birds (1963) 5 - Rope (1948) 4 - North By Northwest (1959) 3 - Vertigo (1958) 2 - Rear Window (1954) 1 - Psycho (1960)
My list: 10.) The 39 Steps 9.) Notorious 8.) Strangers on a Train 7.) Dial M for Murder 6.) Rebecca 5.) Psycho 4.) North By Northwest 3.) Rear Window 2.) Rope 1.) Vertigo
One of the most interesting things about Hitchcock was his willingness to break molds. Someone once said that he made his movies scary by using sinister music. So he made 'The Birds' without ANY music.
bandwagon22 Psycho iS his best. Most influential and most entertaining imho. It is brilliant Vertigo and rear window are both overrated. I put The Birds in the number 2 position personally
Finally got the chance to watch Psycho for the first time last night and God I'm amazed. The way it was shot specifically really brought it home, and the actor who played Norman Bates really manages to get under your skin. Hitchcock and Trumbo remain some of my favorite people in cinema.
Wow, how did you avoid seeing it until now? Are you really young? I've seen it many times. I saw it when it first came out. My folks were huge Hitchcock Movie fans!
My favourite movie is Rebecca. It has one of the most unexpected plot twists I have ever seen in a movie. The visuals are impressive keeping in mind that it is from 1940. Apart from that the acting is outstanding: Joan Fontaine is great as the gorgeous innocent woman and Dame Judith Anderson is so terrifying as the wicked housemaid. But the most outstanding acting is from Sir Laurence Olivier. He dominates the screen in almost every scene as the mysterious, yet adorable widow.
Pyscho and Rear Window are my favourites of his. I liked The Birds, but never really got it, but I suppose thats what made it great though, that there was no answer or explanation, and you're left wanting to know why, yet you can't. Rear Window was so interesting and ugh amazing. Pyscho is self explanatory, everyone knows Pyscho and theres a reason for why its his most successful or known film, its because its sheer, utter brilliance. Everything about it was amazing, and the ending is chilling. It didn't need torture, or gore to be 'horror', all it needed was suspense to make it 'scary'. That is the reason why Pyscho is one of my favourite films, and why Alfred Hitcock is my favourite director. He, himself, was brilliant.
I quite like The Rope. I think is one of the most interesting movies of classic cinema. It`s quite underrated also, it doesn`t gets the attention that deserves, maybe because of all the fame of the other movies.
Is kind of a Kafka-like story. A murder has been commited by two college graduates, and thay are pretty much convinced of their motives because they consider themselves superior to the murdered and to the society in general. Jimmy Stewart is the teacher of both of them and he is gonna show them that they are wrong. One of my favorite movies of all time.
Lovelifegirl saw The Birds as a kid and I have to say it scared the hell out of me. Just the coldness of the movie, those birds always present and building little by little.
+uchihadante77 You probably know this, but it was based on Leopold and Loeb. People on the set said that Jimmy Stewart was the only one who didn't know the killers were gay.
+Arch Stanton Vertigo WILL stand the test of time (as it's already proving) to be his BEST picture ever. It is outstanding in every aspect of film making!!!
My top 10: 10. Rear Window 9. Frenzy 8. Shadow Of a Doubt 7. Rebecca 6. Rope 5. Notorious 4. Strangers On a Train 3. North By Northwest 2. Vertigo 1. Psycho
+RebirthFitness totally. It's a very cerebral film, which involves a lot of dialogue and subtlety, making its audience think more than they are told, and so it slips between the cracks of popularity.
I like Rope better than Strangers on a Train as far as Farley Granger films go, and Spellbound better than Notorious as far as Ingrid Bergman films go. My favourites overall are: Vertigo, Rear Window, and Dial M for Murder. Psycho is really great, but overrated relative to Hitchcock's other films; as is the shower scene, the concert hall assassination scene in the remake of The Man Who Knew Too Much BLOWS it away.
It's hard to make a list of the best Alfred Hitchcock movies since he's definitely one of the best directors, if not the best director of all time. Personally I think that Rope should've been in the top ten and Psycho shouldn't have been number one.
Ritz Chelsea I feel it's overrated. While I do appreciate the twists and turns I just didn't find it as enjoyable as Dial M or Rear Window. It had me interested up until the famous murder scene and everything after that just failed to draw me in. The characters, story and situation just seemed weaker to me. It was a good film, but not his best. It gets the top spot because it challenged so many movie conventions all at once and was still a huge success and is remembered to this day, but as a movie on it's own merits it's just not as strong as some of his other works.
My top 10: 10) Lifeboat 9) the 39 steps 8) marnie 7) strangers on a train 6) dial m for murder 5) the birds 4) north by northwest 3) psycho 2) rear window 1) vertigo
My top 10 of the best director of all-time 1. Vertigo 2. Rear Window 3. To catch a thief 4. Marnie 5. Rebecca 6. Psycho 7. Dial M for murder 8. Spellbound 9. The man who knew too much 1956 10. North by Northwest
My top-12: 1. Vertigo (1958) 2. North by Northwest (1959) 3. Spellbound (1945) 4. Rebecca (1940) 5. Strangers on a train (1951) 6. To catch a thief (1955) 7. I LOVE YOUR LIST! from your list this is how I rate them: OUTSTANDING are VERTIGO, NORTH BY NORTHWEST, REBECCA, STRANGERS ON A TRAIN, THE BIRDS, NOTORIOUS, MARNIE & THE 39 STEPS, each of them for very different reasons. EXCEPTIONAL are DIAL M FOR MURDER & TO CATCH A THIEF. NOTEWORTHY is 1956, THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH. SPELLBOUND is above average but great set pieces and interesting psychology.
i forgot all about "To catch a thief"...that wasn't on either list...like are they insane??????....that's considered 1 of Hitchcock's BEST...I tell people this ALL THE TIME...STOP listening to mojo...y'all know they're on that "stuff"...lol...
My Top 10 Favorites by AH 10. The Wrong Man 9. The 39 Steps 8. Marnie 7. To Catch a Theif 6. North by Northwest 5. The Birds 4. Strangers on a Train 3. Vertigo 2. Rear Window 1. PSYCHO
Sarah Freed It was Rated R many years later when it was resubmitted to the MPAA. That association and the ratings system was not in place for another 8 years after Psycho was released.
I love 'Frenzy' too, it has some magnificent performances and some unforgettable scenes. The fingers in the potato truck, for one. It also though has an unpleasant, nasty feel running through it, as Hitch was trying to up the ante for modern viewers. Also has the odd bad forced dialogue, and poor support, which would never have been allowed to slip through when he was fully on the ball. I love the policeman and his weird wife too. My faves are the oldies and Rear Window..and The Birds and ... well all of 'em.
godriczimmerman, Who makes the best wine, beer, cheese, automobile? Good bar talk, party chatter, book of lists topic. I think they are all worthy of enjoyment, appreciation and discussion. Skip the ones that aren't your taste as I would, replay the one's that you still find satisfying. Sort of like food and restaurants.
1.Vertigo 2.Psycho 3.North by Northwest 4.Rear Window 5.The Birds 6. Strangers on a train 7. Shadow of a doubt 8.Rope 9.Dial m for murder 10.The man who knew to much. Love Hitchcock!!! We always have outdoor movie night in our backyard with his films.
My Top 10 would be: The 39 Steps The Lady Vanishes Rope Strangers on a Train Dial "M" for Murder Rear Window Vertigo North by Northwest Psycho Frenzy One good advice: never forget to discover and re-discover the british career of Hitchcock
Well, at least it was Roger Ebert's (one of the best and most famous film critics) favorite Hitchcock movie and made it into his Top 10 for a long time. But later he replaced it with Vertigo. I really liked it, too, though my favorites are North By Northwest and Rear Window.
1. Vertigo (1958, 5 stars) 2. The 39 Steps (1935, 5 stars) 3. Frenzy (1972, 5 stars) 4. North By Northwest (1959, 5 stars) 5. Topaz (1969, 5 stars) 6. Marnie (1966, 4 stars) 7. Psycho (1960, 4 stars) 8. Rear Window (1954, 3.5 stars) 9. The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956, 3.5 stars) 10. Dial M For Murder (1954, 3.5 stars) 11. The Wrong Man (1955, 3.5 stars) 12. Rope (1948, 3.5 stars) 13. Rebecca (1940, 3.5 stars) 14. Strangers on a Train (1951, 3 stars) 15. The Lady Vanishes (1938, 3 stars - great, except it’s rather traumatizing to watch, knowing what happened in history just two years later :[ ) 16. The Birds (1963, 3 stars) 17. The Trouble With Harry (1955, 2.5 stars - indifferent) 18. Family Plot (1976, 2 stars - only movie I didn’t like :[ ) Films I’m excited to watch: 1. Shadow of a Doubt 2. The Paradine Case 3. Spellbound 4. Notorious 5. Lifeboat 6. Sabotage Other films I want to get to eventually: 1. To Catch a Thief 2. Under Capricorn 3. Suspicion 4. Saboteur 5. Torn Curtain (Can’t find this one, but would like to watch asap since I loved Topaz!)
My Ranking: 10. The Lady Vanishes 9. Rope 8. Strangers on a Train 7. Notorious 6. Rebecca 5. Dial M for Murder 4. North by Northwest 3. Vertigo 2. Rear Window 1. Psycho
I can´t believe Rope didn´t make the top 10 , it´s a very bold story plus it was all shot with a single camera , one of the the best movies ever made imo .
SUSPICION! How on earth could you leave this Alfred Hitchcock, Carey Grant, Joan Fontaine suspense thriller off the list? It's possibly his finest film!
Respectable top 10 list but I think "Shadow of a Doubt" should be in the top 10. My favorite of Hitch's 1940s films and Joseph Cotten's Uncle Charlie is Hitchcock's best villain IMHO.
Let’s face it: Hitchcock’s Top Ten are among the greatest films ever made. Hitchcock created more films that are both cinematic masterpieces and adored by audiences worldwide than anyone else in history.
I love a good Hitchcock film! Even though I could rate my top five, they are really so close, each one wins by just the merest fraction. I love them almost equally: 1.Rear Window 2. Shadow of a Doubt 3. Vertigo 4. Psycho 5. Marnie
I really can't choose which Hitchcock film I'd put at Number 1, Probably Rear Window or Vertigo, But there are some days I'd have to put North by Northwest & Psycho into that category. Shadow of a Doubt? Strangers on a Train? Notorious? so many great films. Ten is really too small a number for Hitchcock masterpieces.
The thing I most loved about The Birds is the fact that the movie never explains it. You go through the entire thing wondering why are these birds attacking only to end it with the same unanswered question that everyone in that town had.
I figuired they would pick Psycho as the top pick they always pick the movie the director is most known far they never pick the actual greatest Alfred Hitchcock movie!!!!
Its defiantly one of his greatest any one of the top 4 each deserved the number 1 spot , but their can only be number 1 and it might of just come down to the fact which one of his 4 best, r the most iconic and influential because it is very hard to choose his best.
1. Vertigo 2. Psycho 3. Rear Window 4. The Birds 5. North by Northwest 6. Rebecca 7. Rope 8. Torn Curtain 9. The 39 Steps 10. The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956)
1. North by northwest 2. Vertigo 3. Psycho 4. Rear window 5. Dial M for murder 6. Frenzy 7. The man who knew too much (1956) 8. Strangers on a train 9. Notorious 10. The wrong man
Seanh2k11 You'd definitely not be crazy if you did that. It's a truly excellent film and I'd probably put it into the top 10 as well, problem just is that HItchcock made so many awesome films that it's hard to put them in such a short list (top 10). Even lesser-known films like Lifeboat, Foreign Correspondent or the Lady Vanishes are truly great.
Rear Window is actually the crowning achievement of beauty itself because I don't know if a woman has ever looked more amazing on film than Grace Kelly did in that movie. Just wow! Vertigo or Lifeboat might have to fight it out for my favorite Hitch film though. Well I don't know. There's no way I could ever answer. LOL!
Um, I’m sorry to have to correct you, but the proper order is: #1 - Vertigo #2 - Psycho #3 - The Birds #4 - North by Northwest #5 - Rear Window The rest in no particular order, but Spellbound should be in the top 10. Rebecca was a snoozer.
It should be a federal crime to spoil Psycho’s ending.
I agree with you. when ever I recommend it to my friends, I always tell them that it's about a woman who steals some money and runs from the police.
meh... overrated by this presentation... I would have ranked it #12
I want to watch the film but I know that is I watch it I will not sleep for 10 days. 🥺
Exactly. This video gave too much information in Vertigo, also.
Yes! This video gave away some other movie spoilers.
I haven't seen "Strangers on a Train" yet, but, I feel like "The Man Who Knew to Much" now.

Vertigo wasn’t well received at the time. That’s because it was waaaay ahead of its time, before audiences caught up with his genius. The best of them all.
Vertigo was made by egyptian actors. But the american is thousand times better
Please don't spoil the plot for people who haven't watched these classic beauties. I mean WTF
André Marceau the watchmojo team really are fucking idiots for doing that. Some people are discovering hitchcock's films for the first time.
André Marceau lol that's why i don't watch any watchmojo's vids related to movies and tv shows i just come at the comment section

Who already knew Phsyco was number one before clicking on this video?
I actually thought it was bold of them to Psycho at #1 and Vertigo at #3. But I knew exactly which ones would be in the top 4.
I did, if they wouldn’t it’d be *MURDER!* (pun intended)
In my opinion, putting Psycho #1 identifies it as an unsophisticated list, one that prioritizes popularity over art, and is compiled by a young person and/or for a younger bubblegum-chomping audience.
The most underrated Hitchcock is definitly "The Lady Vanishes".
Yes! This is the film where he really comes into his own!
Shadow Of A Doubt with Joseph Cotten was apparently Hitchcock's favorite film.
I would put "lady vanishes" as a top 5 film. Suspense, great acting and screen chemistry, superior script. My personal fave.

Shadow Of A Doubt was Hitchcock "s own personal favorite, and is mine also!! Brilliant!
It's great
I don't Cotten to that.
@@donovanmedieval lol
It should have been on the list
@@OrterMinat: It definitely belonged in the Top 10, rather than Dial M For Murder.
There is no such thing as a bad Hitchcock movie.
Eh, i personally don't like Rebecca
It's interesting considering that's the only Hitchcock film to win Best Picture at the Oscars.
Marnie.
Hristijan Talevski topaz
@@tommylitz4543 i loved Marnie
"Shadow of a Doubt" as a honorable mention? WTF? Hitchcock himself said it's his favorite creation ever!
I agree. The most suspenseful one I've ever seen.
It might have been his favourite, but it's a subpar Hitchcock film in comparison with the others.
My list:
10.) The 39 Steps
9.) Notorious
8.) Strangers on a Train
7.) Dial M for Murder
6.) Rebecca
5.) Psycho
4.) North By Northwest
3.) Rear Window
2.) Rope
1.) Vertigo
One of the most interesting things about Hitchcock was his willingness to break molds.
Someone once said that he made his movies scary by using sinister music.
So he made 'The Birds' without ANY music.
i just like how he pops in randomly in all his movies🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
muchlike tarantino
Stephen King does the same thing in all of his movies..Hitchcock obviously inspired him.
@@rdblk84 Uhhh, you know cameos are a thing right??
North by Northwest is my favorite although I admit I haven't watched them all.
1) Psycho 2) Vertigo 3) Rear Window.... those who tried to downplay Psycho are self made snobs. Don't try to play that game.

You are he self made snob sir. Psycho is great, but not in the Pantheon,, as are Rear Window and 2 - Vertigo.
bandwagon22 Psycho iS his best. Most influential and most entertaining imho.
It is brilliant
Vertigo and rear window are both overrated.
I put The Birds in the number 2 position personally
Please add Rebecca
My personnal top 5:
N5-rope
N4-rear window
N3-vertigo
N2-north by northwest
And finaly number 1: psycho
Finally got the chance to watch Psycho for the first time last night and God I'm amazed. The way it was shot specifically really brought it home, and the actor who played Norman Bates really manages to get under your skin. Hitchcock and Trumbo remain some of my favorite people in cinema.
👀 Sequels as Well!
Wow, how did you avoid seeing it until now? Are you really young? I've seen it many times. I saw it when it first came out. My folks were huge Hitchcock Movie fans!
HITCHCOCK COPIED the motel and motel keeper from ORSON WELLES 'A TOUCH OF EVIL'
1. Psycho
2. Rope
3. Vertigo
4. Rear window
5. Shadow of a doubt
6. Notorious
7. The lady vanishes
8. The 39 steps
9. Dial M for murder
10. The birds
Vertigo is his masterwork. But how can you not even mention Frenzy?
5. Notorious
4. North by Northwest
3. Rear Window
2. Psycho
1. Vertigo
the only thing I would switch personally is north by northwest with Rope
North by Northwest kinda boring in my opinion.
1. Strangers on a Train
2. Psycho
3. Rear Window
4. Vertigo
5. Dial M for Murder
6. The Birds
7. Rope
8. Rebecca
9. Notorious
10. North by Northwest
disrespectful to put north by northwest that low. it's easily a top 5 no matter the mood, genre, or personal taste. it's just that good.
It's so hard to choose one film, in my view they are all great and timeless. Hitchcock will always be the master.
North by Northwest is my favorite, I just love Cary Grant’s performance and charm.
same, one of my favourite movies as a whole
It`s quite underrated also, it doesn`t gets the attention that deserves, maybe because of all the fame of the other movies.
uchihadante77 I haven't seen that, mind telling me what its about?
I like Vertigo the most, but mainly because of Bernard Herrmann's beautiful soundtrack (and Kim Novak of course).
Arch Stanton Absolutely, but don't forget the gorgeous, dreamlike cinematography too.
+Arch Stanton Vertigo WILL stand the test of time (as it's already proving) to be his BEST picture ever. It is outstanding in every aspect of film making!!!
+Timothy Griffin totally agree
+Timothy Griffin yeah Vertigo is a special picture. It's like he painted a picture when he made it. It is my first favorite Hitchcock film.
San Francisco circa 1958
"Notorious" and "Shadow of a Doubt" will always be my favorites. SOAD also has the distinction of being Hitchcock's favorite as well. 😊

7. Rebecca
6. Rope
5. Notorious
4. Strangers On a Train
3. North By Northwest
2. Vertigo
1. Psycho
"rope" should be clearly in this list
Rope is actually my favorite
+RebirthFitness totally. It's a very cerebral film, which involves a lot of dialogue and subtlety, making its audience think more than they are told, and so it slips between the cracks of popularity.
Most definitely.
It's my favourite 2 ..the murder happened in the beginning yet it hooked us all till the very end
1.) Psycho 2.) The Birds 3.) Rear Window 4.) Vertigo 5.) Frenzy
It's hard to make a list of the best Alfred Hitchcock movies since he's definitely one of the best directors, if not the best director of all time.
Personally I think that Rope should've been in the top ten and Psycho shouldn't have been number one.
Mirage WM Psycho NOT number one?!?!?!?!
I think Marnie is his best in my opinion
Ritz Chelsea I feel it's overrated. While I do appreciate the twists and turns I just didn't find it as enjoyable as Dial M or Rear Window.
It had me interested up until the famous murder scene and everything after that just failed to draw me in. The characters, story and situation just seemed weaker to me. It was a good film, but not his best. It gets the top spot because it challenged so many movie conventions all at once and was still a huge success and is remembered to this day, but as a movie on it's own merits it's just not as strong as some of his other works.
He had a huge impact on our culture.
I remember his TV show, and I remember seeing the Birds as a kid, and
it freaked me out, Rear Window too.
Henry Fry I was thinking Marnie too. But Pyscho is such a cult favorite. Vertigo is still the best IMHO.
My top 10:

Shadow of a Doubt definitely deserved a spot.
that's my favorite
well ...yes uncle Charlie u are absolutely right
Underrated movie
An honorable mention should be made to "Frenzy" - Hitch's sole R-rated film and vastly underrated. He's got too many great ones.
Psycho was R-rated, what are you talking about?
Sarah Freed It was Rated R many years later when it was resubmitted to the MPAA. That association and the ratings system was not in place for another 8 years after Psycho was released.
+Ronald H okay. i did some digging (Wikipedia), and found that it received an M rating, equivalent to a PG rating. thanks!
+Sarah Freed - :)
For me, "Notorious" is underrated on this list and "The Birds" is overrated. Also, "Vertigo" or "Rear Window" should be the No.1
Have you seen "Shadow of a Doubt?" I ask, because I share your sentiments. Personally, I love "Shadow of a Doubt."
I know, and Frenzy and Marnie very underrated.
"The Birds" underrated?? No way!! An absolute classic horror film! The suspense was so palpable you could touch it!

Strangers on a Train
Dial "M" for Murder
Rear Window

Notorious is my favourite. It's so underrated, I wish it got the recognition it deserves.
Well, at least it was Roger Ebert's (one of the best and most famous film critics) favorite Hitchcock movie and made it into his Top 10 for a long time. But later he replaced it with Vertigo. I really liked it, too, though my favorites are North By Northwest and Rear Window.
I watch it because Ingrid Bergman
Claude Rains is terrific in this movie, in an understated way.

I've just updated my list after watching a lot more Hitchcock films.
There is a true story to The Lady Vanishes ?

Saboteur is v good
Notorious is my number one. Vertigo is definitely the one that left the biggest impression though.
I cannot say Notorious my fave because I need to re-watch Psycho, Vertigo and Rear Windows the top three tier
I cannot choose which one is my fav... every time I watched Hitchcock's movie for the first time I will have a new favourite
The lady vanishes is my personal fave.

3- rear window
4- dial m for murder

Shadow of a Doubt should have been in the top 10
Spellbound, vertigo, real window and stranger on the train! I love these movies!
Respectable top 10 list but I think "Shadow of a Doubt" should be in the top 10. My favorite of Hitch's 1940s films and Joseph Cotten's Uncle Charlie is Hitchcock's best villain IMHO.
Rebecca is my favorite Hitchcock movie. :)
The direction, music and cinematography made it his best and most eerie movie ever!
Mine too!
So good! It’s definitely in my top three Hitchcock movies
Yes albeit it's sometimes slow pace

North by Northwest has always been my favorite, and I would have Rope in my personal top ten. Then again, there are so many great ones to choose from!
North by northwest is my favorite too
1. Rear Window
2. Psycho
3. The Man Who Knew Too Much
4. North By Northwest
5. Vertigo
Let’s face it: Hitchcock’s Top Ten are among the greatest films ever made. Hitchcock created more films that are both cinematic masterpieces and adored by audiences worldwide than anyone else in history.
Finally Dial M for Murder was enlisted. Great movie by the way.
... and brilliant British dry humour on it.
"Vertigo" is the greatest by far. And "Spellbound" deserves a Top 5 ranking, not a honourable mention.
I love a good Hitchcock film! Even though I could rate my top five, they are really so close, each one wins by just the merest fraction. I love them almost equally:
1.Rear Window
2. Shadow of a Doubt
3. Vertigo
4. Psycho
5. Marnie
1 rear windo
2 rope
3 Vertigo
4 psycho
5 North by nerthwest
I really can't choose which Hitchcock film I'd put at Number 1,
Probably Rear Window or Vertigo, But there are some days I'd have to put North by Northwest & Psycho into that category.
Everyone give Daphne du Maurier credit for Rebecca, but she also wrote The Birds.
I gotta give props to Watchmojo for showing Hitchcock's cameo in every one of these movies.
I Confess - Suspicion - Lifeboat - Stage fright - Marnie - Foreign Correspondent - Saboteur - Torn courtain - The wrong man
"Shadow of a Doubt" should have made top 10
I'm so glad you included Hitchcock's cameos. I remember always looking for him then once I did I could fully concentrate on the film.
I figuired they would pick Psycho as the top pick they always pick the movie the director is most known far they never pick the actual greatest Alfred Hitchcock movie!!!!
:-)
Its defiantly one of his greatest any one of the top 4 each deserved the number 1 spot , but their can only be number 1 and it might of just come down to the fact which one of his 4 best, r the most iconic and influential because it is very hard to choose his best.
Claude Debussy I say Rear Window.

how the fuck is Rope not in the top 10?
Because Hitchcock made imo at least twice as many great films as ten. You can't include every favourite.
call me crazy but i'd put Rope in his top 5...
I would like to agree with you but I never saw the movie so i cant judge it also the list is voted from
MoJo should be strung up =))
Rear Window is his crowning achievement, no offense
Rear Window is actually the crowning achievement of beauty itself because I don't know if a woman has ever looked more amazing on film than Grace Kelly did in that movie. Just wow! Vertigo or Lifeboat might have to fight it out for my favorite Hitch film though. Well I don't know. There's no way I could ever answer. LOL!
