Hi Emma,I bought cutless variegated Chinese evergreen at a Home Depot today and I looked you up for care tips! This video was 3 years old but I found it very informative.Hi from Maine😊
I have had an Aglaonema commutatum "Silver Bay" for 9 years by north-facing windows. I divided it to share with a friend. It has grown several times its original size, from a 10" pot to a 15" pot & is the pride & joy of my houseplants. I also have 3 other varieties in different shades of green to light green. I have red ones, as well, by south windows, but they don't grow as large.
Awesome video!! I wish I watched this video before trying to heal a silver queen plant. lol That being said... I need help. The silver queen plant belongs to my father-in-law and has been in his family for over 50 years. I brought it back to life about years ago and now she's struggling again. I noticed that her roots were not growing anymore, so I reported her and I put her in a clear pot (the ones used for orchids) so I could watch the roots grow. I also trimmed it because she was very laggy and put it in water. The trimmed pieces still have no roots, but they look great. The one I potted on the other hand does not.. I water weekly when the soil is dry, but the leaves are curling in. I have her on the window the windowsill facing north. What could be wrong?
Hey, love your videos! informative, fun/light and to the point. Keep it coming! 👏🏾 Video suggestion: a top ten (or whatever number) ranking of indoor plants by level of care needed/resiliency and perhaps the benefits/pros vs drawbacks/cons.
Hi I'm so glad I found your Channel I appreciate all the very valuable information that you're giving I like the way you have everything set up when it comes to each subject that you're going to talk about before you speak on it I really appreciate that I've been wanting for years to take a plant and to cut the plant and start a new one but I was always afraid so now I'm so happy why you were doing this fiddle video I was taking care of 40 plants that I have in my home just giving them new dirt that's all it is so relaxing thank you so much I wish the best for you and I look forward to seeing many more videos
Aww thank you so much! That just made my morning! I'm so glad you're enjoying my videos and that I can motivate you to take cuttings of your plants to try to propagate :) I wish you the best as well! Thank you
You can propagate the aglaonema Maria from their stems! When I was repotting mine, I accidentally broke off a stem with two leaves on it. I was curious to see if can propagate it and....IT WORKS! There are new roots and a leaf shooting! 🌱
Great video ♡ I have 3 aglaonemas, they're super easy to take care of! Two of mine flowered, honestly the flowers are nothing spectacular but still cute. I noticed when I clipped the flowers off, it sprouted new leaves where the flowers used to be! Super cool of the plant to so this ♡ My newest aglaonema, I'm not sure which variety it is. I have an etta rose and lady valentine. I've tried to Google but no hope yet, I refuse to give up until I know what it is, heh heh Edit: according to google, it may be a dieffenbachia 😅 lol
Thanks! Yeah they are lovely plants for sure! Yeah a bunch of people told me to cut the flower because it would use a lot of the plant's energy! But yeah, it's super cool how it grows a bunch of leaves after! Haha yeah when I first saw chinese evergreen I didn't know what they were. But I thought it was like a mix between a dieffenpachia and a calathea.... whoops!
Typed in Chinese Evergreen and your channel was on the list! I have one and have had them before. The watering part of your video is probably the most critical part. Every Evergreen that I have had died on me because I thought surely it is ready to be watered. Root rot😂
Really liked the video, I am so out of touch when it comes to these things. Could you please answer a question for me? Am I overfertilizing if I am using Miracle Gro planting soil for my Chinese Evergreen Maria, but then also use fertilizing pikes with the soil? The soil says it can feed my plant for 6 months, and honesty I've been a bit worried about it because it hasn't been rooting. So, should I use additional fertilizer with the Miracle Gro? Again, thanks for the informative video!
I found a Siam Aurora in Home Depot today and I am so hyped. Of course, I came home and tuned into my 2 favorite channels to learn how to take care of her. I really want a pink variety but I'll settle for pink stems. I have a huge Maria, -- there are about 12 separate stalks in the 12" container -- which I picked up at a nursery and I'm still doing trial and error on lighting because I had her in low light and wasn't sure she was happy because some of her bottom leaves started to yellow. I look forward to more of your videos and thanks so much for sharing such wonderful plant information. Again, even though I'm in the US and can't take advantage of some of your growers and Amazon channels, you are one of my 1st go-to channels for plant care.
Oh amazing find!! Very exciting! Yeah I moved my Maria down to lower light and I’m pretty sure she’s not the happiest there, as I’m having the same yellowing leaves issue. That means the world to me! I’m so so glad that you still find my videos helpful! I try to make them as inclusive as possible 💚
the red siams stay small and can get kind of leggy just a warning. I've actually8 just let mine fallen over cause I got tired of it propping it and it starts reaching back up and sprouting pups in the middle. so now I just leave it and will see happen when it continues to grow hopefully it gets more bushy. the aglo's are good with a few bunched together in a pot imo. Also can fade or even yellow with too much sunlight so give it a medium light imo.
Great vid as always. I got a pinaple plant, had it from Tesco last December. Going great but I can see pups on the bottom of the plant. Tried pulling on them but they seem attached firmly to the plant. Any tips on getting them off? Thanks 👍
Aww thanks! As for your pineapple plant, you'll probably have to cut their connection with the main plant. If you check out my dividing snake plant video, I think it will be similar to that! Best of luck
So far the only plants that haven't died on me is the Peace Lily and The Chinese evergreen( white dalmation) The C.E that I have can go two weeks without water .
@@GoodGrowing I have a small peace lily in a 6 inch pot and when I water it the water goes to the bottom very quickly. But since it's a small plant it cant have that many roots so I dont understand why this is happening?
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 That's because the soil isn't absorbing the water as fast as gravity can take it down to the bottom. If you can, leave it sitting in the water for about 30 minutes and it should absorb it up!
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 _"but why is that?"_ soil compaction. soil particles packed too tightly against each other by water and gravity. common for all container plants that are irrigated too much/often.
Oh no! That sounds like some sort of watering issue, either too much or too little. Take a look at your watering schedule and your soil. If the soil is moist most of the time, too much water, if it's dry for long periods, not enough. Best of luck!
Mine is getting really long stems and are starting to droop :( I had a repotting incident where I put them in a big pot and watered it and I realized the pot did not have a drainage hole. So the next day I trimmed the roots and put it in a different pot. I didn't water it again since the soil was still moist. I'm sure it's really stressed out but is there a way I could make it bushy and upright again?
@@hanhdoan9101 hmmm i'm not too sure as they don't grow like vining plants, so trimming may not make them more compact. You could always give it a go and cut off growth that gets unruly
My mil always called it a peace Lilly cuz the flowers that bloom look just like a peace Lilly but now I’m hear Chinese evergreen so what’s the difference
Mines get these brown spots on the foliage. Do you know what causes this? I am finding these a little more finicky then I expected. I was using tap water to water, I’m not sure if that’s why bc I know others who use tap water and there’s are fine. I also don’t expose it to too much light.
Hmm not sure why that would be.. It could be something in the water... how often do you fertilise it? It could be fertiliser burns? Or it could be signs of pests?
I don’t fertilize it. I’m not sure about pests. Nothing that I can see anyway. I contacted the nursery where I bought it. They think it’s sun damage but mine are kept far from the window so idk 😔
Hi! I actually think I figured it out. I think I’m overwatering it. The area of the leaves where the brown spots are are soft/droopy. I read this is a sign of too much moisture. I forget that these plants hold water in their stems so they can tolerating drying out some. I’m going to cut the bad leaves off and change my watering patterns.
@@heartjt Hi there! I'm going through this same issue with my Chinese Evergreen. Unfortunately I found out late that I was over watering and I lost a few leaves to browning. Has your plant improved since making these changes and did you have any problems cutting off the bad leaves?
it depends on the light the plant is in. If your plants are becoming leggy it means they're having to search for light. Maybe try moving it to a brighter spot, but still keep it out of too harsh direct sunlight
the red siam/siam aurora get leggy and stay small. the chinese evergreen and silver bay/crystal bay ones get big and bushy. just different varieties. the little red ones you can let fall over and they reach back up and new ones sprout in the middle but to have one super bushy would probably take 10 years unless you bunch quite a few together in a pot. I wouldn't buy another one of them imo. I had it 5 or 6 years and others on youtube who have the plant that long have the same experience it seems. My big silverbay on the other hand is a pride and joy of the home.

I've got a silver queen and it grows soooo quickly! Really basic but fun plant to own 😍
Yeah the silver queens are gorgeous! I really want to get one for myself!
My red aglaonemas been putting out 4-5 leaves since I had them. I brought them this pass fall.Great tips.
Oooh that's such a great growth rate! Keep up the great work!
Great helpful information. I hope my plant can grow as beautifully as yours.
Aww thanks! I'm so glad you found it helpful

Oh yeah I find the green ones grow way quicker than the red/pink ones. Sounds like you’ve got quite a collection
mine is in a 12" pot. I think almost 3-4ft off the ground was a costa farms plant growing for 6 years. great plants.
