Perfect timing! I never really had a deep appreciation of Aglaonemas but now I’m in love with them. I think a well grown plant is beautiful even if fairly common. My understanding is that the more colorful cultivars get floppier as they mature.
I found a Red Aglaonema stem cutting one time in the dumpster area by my building, rinsed it off really good, sprayed it with hydrogen peroxide, allowed it to dry then propagated it. Now I have 4 plants. They're easy caring and love propagating it!!❤️🥰

Thanks so much, I needed this so much! I have several Chinese evergreens but the one that I almost lost is my silver bay! It was so pretty when I bought it home, I must have over watered it and now it’s half the size it was when I brought it home. Hope I can keep the rest of it alive and it comes back. A lesson learned!!😊
Great timing, I just got my first one about a month ago! I love my houseplant plants primarily for foliage so I love it and it is great for the low-med light space I have it in. Thank you for the video.
Here in asia, we give agloanemas morning sunlight and put them indoors with indirect light. Since we live in a hotter climate, the sun is hotter and will totally scorch the leaves. There in cooler climates. I recommend to put them in direct sunlight since its 🥶 🧊
In cold climates it’s actually warmer inside than in warmer climates, in winter. Our walls are thicker and filled with insulation. Our windows have 2 lanes or sometimes 2 layers of window with a space between them. Heating systems are also more efficient or something. I was colder in japan and Taiwan and England in winter than i am in Canada.
I’ve been after an aglaonema for so long and this has just increased the desire haha. I really want more plants for my desk at home but it’s in my bedroom which is north-east facing, and I just feel like a green aglaonema would be perfect
I absolutely love my Aglaonemas!!! I recommend EVERYONE to get an Ag! It's the best plant ever - how could anyone say its a boring office plant?!? #plantsnob lol
These plants are survivors. I have a red Siam which was growing great in a dark corner under a Soltech Aspect grow light. Then suddenly after 2 gorgeous years, stems got very leggy and starting snapping off weekly until I only had a few stems left. I tried rooting the top of leafy broken stems in water but a year later nothing. As a last resort I put the stems in potting soil and pumice mix. Low and behold every stem rooted and leafed out. Meanwhile my original pot which looked like a sad cut down forest, had new shoots start popping out of the soil and each 2-3 inch bare ‘trunk’ started sprouting new shoots out the tops. So now I have 3 pots filled with multiple 8-10 inch tall plants. This spring I will put them all together in one pot to make a nice bushy pot. Mother Nature can be pretty resilient sometimes.
I am no expert. This is my only experience with aglonema. After watching more UA-cams about them, it seems some varieties tend to get more leggy versus others. So either RedSiam is leggy type or I am doing something wrong. Ha. I just saw one youtube that said when her aglonema gets leggy she replanted it hiding more of the stem under the soil. Nice to learn all the hidden tricks..
gotta lump the Aglaonema into the same group as pothos - not flashy, no fancy, but will always be there for you when all your other fussy plants up and die without rhyme or reason. I stan the Aglaonema's; they've always looked out for me.
How did you know I just got my first aglaonema? :) I found a Maria at a local Home Depot and said "why haven't my feet moved? Am I stunned? Yes. Because this plant is stunning!" I have it in a small corner but 4 feet or so under a grow light
I grow my aglaonema in pafcal and pumice. It’s perfect and won’t have to worry about overwatering. It’s thriving in this set up. I get two new leaves every other week.
mine grows in a bathroom where there is a window that faces north and the bathroom in the winter stays at a constant 52 degrees with low humidity, No grow lights or heaters and forgetful watering and it thrives.
Wow!! Congratulations! The Pictum tri-color costs like a zillion bucks! Lolol keep it in high humidity or with a cloche like Summer has! They can get pretty leggy and notoriously sparse leaves if not kept up right.
I can't grow calathea in my dry house but my 3 aglaonema handle it just fine. So I have changed my wish list plant calathea ornata to the chocolate aglaonema. Same kind of look but probably won't die on me during the winter. 😊 Thanks for the tips. My silver bay was away from the cold but still managed to get a draft and the bottom leaves were doing exactly as you said. I cut them off and it seems to be ok now.
Love Chinese evergreens....they are versatile & perfect for low light condition! Want the Agl. Pictum Tricolor though....great educational video Summer! ❤️👍
Thanks for showing some of the more colorful choices! When I lost my house (in 2018) to fire, all my plant buddies went too, save for the dormant dragon lily. The first two plants I got post fire were a epiphyllum and an aglaonema from a friend who was relocating. So generous! Both were of a pretty good size. The Aglao is in an 8" tapered metal(ish) pot. It has an ideal light source and is very happy overall. We had a large show of flowers this year. Here is my question: What do you think causes those yellowing tips? I see them on your (very healthy) Plants as well. They do seem to occur on the lower leaves only. I do not water often, but I water well and then wait. There are no obvious signs of rot anywhere, and no other blemishing of the leaves. Takk pa forhand! Thanks in advance! Gwen
it’s very normal for plants to drop their older lower leaves over time. those leaves get less light as the plant grows bigger, getting shaded by the other leaves.
I recently went on a trip and in the hotel I stayed at, there was a Silver Bay Ag basically at every corner and floor of the hotel. And it was amazing to see that even though there was mostly artificial lighting, they all looked so lush and healthy. It was really hard for me to not take cuttings lol
Sadly, my aglaonema is long gone due to root rot 😐 It was a beautiful plant, but I have avoided replacing it. Maybe I’ll give these plants another try- this video was very helpful.
Aglaonemas are my fave house plants. I've got many pink, white and red varieties - Red Unyamanee, Pink Cochin, Snow White, Rotundum Tiger, Red Siam, Dona Carmen, etc. and they just keep on giving me new leaves like once or twice a month!
I propagated the striped green variety from stem cuttings. I find the process to be slow, but it was worth propagating from any piece available. The stem cuttings develop very slowly in the heat of summer but that speeds-up in early fall when the heat abates. So did Dieffenbachia cuttings. I find that tip cuttings and plant division give better results.

Not aglaonema related but related to plants. I started with plants in July 2020. Yes during this pandemic and I was staying at home. I have avoided these guys because I have spider mites in the trees in my neighborhood. The first year (we lived here) I killed a Diffenbachia by not noticing until too late that we had brought them indoors ( the spider mites ) for winter. Although Neem oil is part of my ongoing routine now I have shied away from plants with big thin leaves. Are they more resilient than fellow aroid Diffenbachia? Well it really wont be a problem in the future. We are moving soon. Hopefully out in rural KY there will be more natural predators for the mites and I won't have to worry about an annual re-infestation when my plants go outside for their summer vacation. Thanks for more brilliant content. You are the best!
Rachel’s Heart Shaped Leaves channel has an amazing video on “how to kill spider mites” and her method works wonders for larger leafed plants like Dieffenbachia and Aglaonema...it was a total game changer for me! Good luck!
I love mine. I have an Aglaonema SIam Dwell (it's what the label on the pot says), but I love it so much. The pinks/reds in the leaves are so gorgeous-- probably why I also love my Hoya Carnosa Crimson Princess. Just that unexpected shot of color.
This is literally the only plant that my husband actually loved cuz he’s the Camo king! Lolol but alas the price!! 😩😩 LOLOL eventually he came around to like the Monstera and I’m over the moon about it...he still has his eye on that Tricolor though! #ForeverWishlistPlant 😂
hi Summer, love the Aglaonema pictum tricolor you have and if I had a big enough jar I would place it under glass like you have for my Dieffenbachia. Also love the blue kimono jacket you are wearing in this video.
The only aglo I have is the pictum tricolor and it’s my scariest plant. It’s doing okay but it’s my first winter with it. Last growing season it tried flowering 6 times and grew a few leaves but it is currently down to 3 leaves and I want to blame winter and a mealy bug. Hopefully I can make it as happy as yours. Btw yours is the reason I kept pinching the flowers! 💙
Nice video. Old school green and gray aglaonemas are the best houseplants. They can look great with very little natural light.(and very little water). When they eventually get too tall and leggy just chop the leafy top and replant it.
Thank you for sharing Summer. I love my Aglaenoma, I believe it's a "Light Pink Star." I propagated it a few months ago and am repotting them today and will definitely use your mix, hoping they make it. I have it near my Southeast-facing facing window and it's been thriving
Hi Summer, I live in Perth Westrn australia and I just say how much I enjoyed your information about anglaonemas. One thing I want to know is can one grow this plant from a leaf. I have left it in water but no signs yet of root growth. It has been in the water for about 8 days. Thank you for passing your knowledge to us.
I love aglaonemas. Guys I have 5 DONTS on this beautiful indoor plants too, its very simple, and I thinks it can help also for those who wish to have aglaos in their posessions. Thanks for great info.
We have the Silver Queen, Siam Aurora and Doña Carmen in abundance, (maybe Siam Aurora is not the healthiest of the bunch) and I didn't know their name and they just "exist" in our garden until I saw people selling them around. We didn't fertilize, just water sometimes, we actually water the fruit bearing trees and they happen to be underneath so they also get their share.
Re-planting long-stemmed Aglaonema deeper is a good tip! My big Aglaonema commutatum "Silver Bay" I have had for 8 years. Spreading about 4' in a 15" pot, it has long been my pride & joy, but the stems are bare 12" to 18" now, & I was wondering if it is too old.
i been growing them for over 40 years, and they LOVE BRIGHT light to thrive! they will grow slow and lanky if not, i would hardly call these low light plants at all
Thank you for your video- you provide more details on care that I find very helpful. You mentioned that if the plant has a bulls eye spot to check the roots and they should be white, but what do you do when you find unhealthy roots? I would love to see a care video on that. Would you cut the damaged roots, provide a systemic treatment, or fungicide treatment ... natural remedies? Etc? Thank you again! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
How Damon feel about aglonema is how I feel about ZZ plant. They're in almost every mall! Anglonema is also supposed to be a relatively easy houseplant. I'd just only started to grow to love them and hope they'll get more attention in times to come!
I have a black thumb and I was able to trial and error this plant into some beautiful growth. I think I still have her in too bright of a window so there's some scorching but mostly okay. Also I keep my house at 58-59 at night in the winter and she's done 👌
Mine is suffering (from root rot I think) but I am going to give it TLC since you have shown yours so much love and praise. I wasn't sure if I just bought a dud instead. I have a question. What is the science behind plants tolerating water propagation but not wet feet?
I saw a video about this recently. The rot comes from fungus in the soil. Water doesn't have fungus I guess? Too much water can activate spores in the soil. When growing in water, it's recommended to change the water often (weekly I think the video recommended) to keep it fresh and clean.
Awesome! Just what I was waiting for :-) My girlfriend and I bought a Silver Queen for our anniversary so it's kind of a symbolic plant and as such I want to keep it in good condition. May I ask a couple of questions? - Is guttation a bad sign in the tips of leaves? - What would cause the leaves to become wavy and a little curly and almost feel a bit more rigid but otherwise healthy looking? Thank you so much for this video :-)
Hello Summer, I have a aglaonema which must be at least 20 years old. I admired the beautiful cultivar that you showed us so I am going to look for one. I would like to see a video on spathiphyllums. Thanks for sharing this interesting video.
And yet, I've managed to almost kill 2 this year! They both did great for over a year. Then both got root rot. One, I saved, the other didn't make it so I propagated 2 cuttings and made 2 plants. One is doing o.k. The other, after doing well for 5 months, is now dying - from what I'm not sure. Not overwatering though, since I only water when it starts to droop and it's planted in a cactus mix.
Hey Summer I have several questions for you and this video definitely helped me answer a lot of them but I do have more questions. 1. I live in Arizona and it's starting to reach into its fall season but fortunately I think the lowest temperature is going to be is 50° outside. Should I get a heater for my plants inside? 2. How do you treat those what looks like grease spots on the leaves? I got one from a grocery store called Fry's and it had those little grease spots all over it. Will the leaf die because of those spots. 3. My last question is I got 6 Chinese evergreens from somebody that was selling them they were actually in an office but the people didn't take care of them and some of them had root rot. My question is I cut off the root rot I sprayed it down with 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide with one cup of water let it sit and then I spray it again and then I put it in fresh dirt in a clean pot. Was there more I should have done?
Aglaonema are my favorite plants. I have over 20 different varieties and I am always looking for new ones. I don't understand why they aren't more popular than calathea or whatever they're called now. They don't care about humidity, they never get brown or crunchy, they aren't over dramatic, tantrum throwing toddler plants. They grow in all areas of my place, north facing, west facing, artificial, they don't care! They come in so many patterns and colors. I'll take them all!

@@tiffanyi5645 Thanks, I will do my best! 💙
Wow. Such a stunning and yet easy plant. Can't wait to get one of these. Thank you!
Wow this video instantly made me rem my dream. I was like look this plant has camo 🤦🏽♀️ crazy
Thank you for passing your knowledge to us.
the pink in aglaonema looks so much nicer than the pink in many other types of plants such as syngonium or philodenron for me
The tricolor one looks amazing
I love them. I have about 10 of them and I have grow lights on all of mine.
I've been waiting for an aglonema video, thanks
I love agleonema! I find them to be the cute and easy going girl next door to Calathea's high maintenance diva demands! 💜
I love aglaonemas.
Guys I have 5 DONTS on this beautiful indoor plants too, its very simple, and I thinks it can help also for those who wish to have aglaos in their posessions.
Thanks for great info.
Well what are your 5 DONTS!! Lol
@@tiffanyi5645 DONT kill aglaonema hahaha... ✌
Wantch it 👉
@@anbhappy 😆 ok that’s great advice
Thanks for sharing. Your videos are always so informative 👌🏻
Love your tricolor aglonema. It is very beautiful and now it is on my wishlist plants
Wow! Thanks just bought my first aglaonemas a few hours ago
I finally got my first Aglaonema today! I name it Émma lol and I’m so excited😁🥰☺️☺️
Informative video
Aglaonema very beautiful plant
i been growing them for over 40 years, and they LOVE BRIGHT light to thrive! they will grow slow and lanky if not, i would hardly call these low light plants at all
Thank you for your video- you provide more details on care that I find very helpful.
My favourite plants 🌱
With all the Calatheas I have, it’s nice to these easy to care for plants. I have about 6 different types with mostly the pink, red, and white leaves.
Excellent info, thank you!
I actually water office plants s for a living and they are totally everywhere! Lol, but now I love them and get lots of fun cuttings 🙂💚✂️🌿🌿🌿🌿
YAYY!! A new video! 🥰
The dum cane grows wild here in Jamaica, they're beautiful
Same question!
I saw a video about this recently. The rot comes from fungus in the soil. Water doesn't have fungus I guess? Too much water can activate spores in the soil. When growing in water, it's recommended to change the water often (weekly I think the video recommended) to keep it fresh and clean.
thanks for the tips! very informative videos and also pleasing to the eye! how cool is this plant studio you have there?? amazing
Please could you make some videos of plants that can grow in leca and peos and cons! Thanks
Beautiful plant and you also look pretty today. Love the blue on you. 💙
I love all your plants they are beautiful
I adore my aglaeonema! It
Hello Summer, I have a aglaonema which must be at least 20 years old.
Not overwatering though, since I only water when it starts to droop and it's planted in a cactus mix.
hmmm maybe underwatering
Beautiful video 🤩
Thank you Summer
I love stripes! I have a chocolate one and it constantly grows. I would like to get a big one!
Aglaonemas are like prayer plant’s less problematic sister I love them
