No problem. Thank you for the video. As a beginner I found it very informative and it's really helped me be a step ahead of other people who just show up to class.
Gotta saw armbar city. For me personally there's nothing more painful, my arm doesn't extend all the way from years of weight lifting and not stretching my biceps out. Kimura city at least gives me time to double tap.
1. Keep legs down, put weight on opponent 2. Keep arms in 3. Don’t grab own foot/toes 4. Keep legs up pointed north when on bottom and controlling side guard
+cashis reynero Nice! Great to hear about your promotion! Blue is a huge step my brother. Happy to hear you are training and getting better. We appreciate the feedback, comment, and support as well. It shows us we are going in the right direction! OSS!
Lol I love the reactions of when things aren't going your way with trying to get an arm lock and getting mounted ect.!! CLASSIC!!! No one reacts that way openly, but are doing that exactly on the "inside". Lol
One mistake I made as a beginner was I tried to use too much muscle while rolling, when I should have been focusing on movement that would leverage my opponent's force.
Good catch! It's something that most beginners will naturally do. Tense up, use muscle/power and compensate for the lack of technical knowledge. However the sooner we realize it's going to tire us out, the more we find the importance of technique. Thanks for your comment.
#3 - It's also easier to apply leverage if your arms are closer to your core. I'm a hapkido guy, and most of our wristlocks are virtually impossible to execute if you don't tuck your elbows in, because you can't put any weight into the technique that way.
Nice tips but any decent trainer will teach you those nice little details in 1st few months.. Great video, now i want to go and roll and i will.. We used to get slaps for grabbing foot in triangle and we stopped fast..
Great vids. I'm a student at RGA Fort Lee and have taken a couple of Thursday classes taught by you. They were among the most informative and fun classes I've taken yet. Any chance you can do an escape series? Namely high full mount and knee-on-belly?
Odd my brother! Hopefully tonight class answered your question. I will post it up in the near future as well! Thanks for the feedback, view and support in ISBJJ
Wow, I really appreciate how simple you explained everything... Can you recommend a BJJ trainer here in Hollywood Florida? I'm originally from The Bronx, been down here 9 yrs, and now that I'm older, 48 I'm seriously thinking of starting to train. Wish I would've thought of it when younger!
I only have some BJJ from MAC lvl 1, but if you can't get his arms apart for an armbar or kimura, and your legs are free, maybe use your legs to isolate a leg you can put in a leg-bar or other submission and attack there?
I've seen this injury happen more than a handful during my training journey. I almost tore my ligaments when I was a blue belt
8 років тому
I don't train jiu jitsu, just had some condition training where we wrestle for fun. I tried to keep my partner in rubber guard so i could try to pull a triangle. When i pulled, we all heard a loud snap. It didn't hurt at all, so i wrestled two more guys after that. When i came home it started to hurt. The next day i went to a doc, x-ray, broken ankle and thorn ligaments..
Thanks for the tips. At 2:38, you said "bottom portion of your foot," which was confusing. I think the safety advice is "grab above the ankle" - is that right?
Also slow down dont go too fast or that sends a message to your opponent to match or increase speed SLOOOOOWWWW DOWWWWNNN learned that one the hard way
why do all BJJ guys say "boom" after making the slightest move? Is this the old Batman TV series with Adam West where we should see "POW" "BOOM" "ZONKERS" after every move?
Well there's always Pow ! and Zap ! in case "boom" has the day off. Thank you for the tutorial. I'm now a much improved armchair practitioner. It might even come in handy at the dojo.
what advice can you give me im 5 '8 and 13 and taller than most people at my school i find it hard to fight someone smaller so what can i do to maintain a defensive position against a smaller opponet
xero jt I'm 18 and 5'4. What gives me the most trouble in sparring/fighting taller opponents( besides power, weight, some other stuff), is fighters who know how to use their reach effectively. Use you're reach but also always try to avoid a fight. Only fight if you're life depends on it
Great Question! Brown belt instructors can only graduate athletes to purple belt and purple belt instructors can only graduate athletes to blue belt. Black belt but have 2 degrees certified by IBJJF to graduate an athlete to black belt. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and please subscribe to get new video content
John Jairo Erazo Guerrero the last part of the word was town, I don't know anything about BJJ but I assume that kimoratown is simply a slang expression. And not an actual term
I wonder which place is more dangerous. Armbar city or Kimura town
+William Wright That's a tough one... yeah, don't have an answer for that one lol. Thanks for the view!
No problem. Thank you for the video. As a beginner I found it very informative and it's really helped me be a step ahead of other people who just show up to class.
OSS! Thank you for the feedback! It's a compliment to know these video's are helping out the bjj community.
kimura city, i feel like the armbar is easier to get out of, the kimura grip i think is harder to break
Gotta saw armbar city. For me personally there's nothing more painful, my arm doesn't extend all the way from years of weight lifting and not stretching my biceps out.
Kimura city at least gives me time to double tap.
Are you saying/ implying with your first piece of advice that I, as a white belt, could get someone else in side mount? I'm so flattered!
lol
if you cant you suck
TheCHUR86 I suck then
TheCHUR86 lol its a white belt u loser
Claude Faustus after 2 weeks me to
2nd week of BJJ. I have made ALL of these mistakes. Thanks for the tips !
1. Keep legs down, put weight on opponent
2. Keep arms in
3. Don’t grab own foot/toes
4. Keep legs up pointed north when on bottom and controlling side guard

L
I have VIP dual citizenship in both those locales. Yeaaaah white belts.

Lol I love the reactions of when things aren't going your way with trying to get an arm lock and getting mounted ect.!! CLASSIC!!! No one reacts that way openly, but are doing that exactly on the "inside". Lol
My rolling partner taught me that straight arms are broken arms in my first lessons. Thanks for these advices!
Great tips. Thank you from a white belt.
OSS! thanks for the view and comment!
A lot of helpful tips! I just recently joined an mma gym in my area. Mainly doing the Muay Thai classes there but will be doing the bjj soon too.

Great video, i believe heavily when learning techniques, do and dont's of it and how to defend
Nice tips but any decent trainer will teach you those nice little details in 1st few months.. Great video, now i want to go and roll and i will.. We used to get slaps for grabbing foot in triangle and we stopped fast..
Thank you! These are such helpful tips
Great video! I pressed the subscribe button when I saw your acting skills :)
+Azam Alonaizy lol thanks my brotha!!! OSS
Anything but ARMBAR CITY!!!
Mistake 5: Attempting an Americana in your opponents guard.

Thank you. Very helpful!!!
Thank you!
I feel like as a white belt I always forget to keep my legs up and it sucks. this is a helpful tip thanks.
I'd be a little unnerved putting my ear next to the guys mouth. In a real confrontation I'd be afraid the guy would pull a Mike Tyson.
So awesome!!! Amazing and great information! Thanks so much guys!
160k!! professor your killing it! ossss brother
Excellent video. Thank you!
until, BOOOOM i GRAB my own foot; BOOOM hahaha

The other benefit of not grabbing the foot for the triangle is that it gives your other leg something to Slide Over.
Thank you for this.
Cheers Bruv
Thank you for the info
great tutorial. thanks!
clear and simple. FINALLY
great vid as usual .....

Jesus, if i only watched this a week ago.. I broke my leg doing the #2 common mistake..
I've seen this injury happen more than a handful during my training journey. I almost tore my ligaments when I was a blue belt

Thank you for the view and question. You are correct. The grab above the ankle. Enjoy!

Greetings! Come down and visit our academy! Professor Alan and I train with all our students!
Thanks so much
OSS!!
Very technical. Thank you.
No Problem!!
Thank YOU for your comment and view!
Thanks sir !
There are a LOT of ways to deal with the T Rex white belt defense, but a fellow white belt isn't going to know them.
For some reason I was expecting Renzo Gracie to be talking
UFC VS KFC
bottom portion of your foot, aka your shin
Also slow down dont go too fast or that sends a message to your opponent to match or increase speed SLOOOOOWWWW DOWWWWNNN learned that one the hard way
Bottom portion of your shin ;)
Your school logo is the Thundercats logo?
Am I high or is that Metal Gear Solid font on his logo?
Both
why do all BJJ guys say "boom" after making the slightest move?
Is this the old Batman TV series with Adam West where we should see "POW" "BOOM" "ZONKERS" after every move?
Not sure why. I guess it's a method of expressing the accomplishment of a position or transition. Thanks for the comment!
it's odd, every BJJ video I watch is identical in this practice.
Well there's always Pow ! and Zap ! in case "boom" has the day off. Thank you for the tutorial. I'm now a much improved armchair practitioner. It might even come in handy at the dojo.
You really should switch to "Zip!" "Baff!" and "Boof!". Would have made this video go from a 9/10 to a 10/10.
what advice can you give me im 5 '8 and 13 and taller than most people at my school i find it hard to fight someone smaller so what can i do to maintain a defensive position against a smaller opponet
xero jt listen up kiddo
Knock him out
Work Out lol

Jason06. 06 yeah i know i recently fought and i went full mayweather i used my jab and weaved until the fight was broken up
Hi who can give white belts stripes ??
Great Question! Brown belt instructors can only graduate athletes to purple belt and purple belt instructors can only graduate athletes to blue belt. Black belt but have 2 degrees certified by IBJJF to graduate an athlete to black belt. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and please subscribe to get new video content
He praying to our father jesus 😂
03:27 is it just a Kimura or the whole movement has other name?
John Jairo Erazo Guerrero the last part of the word was town, I don't know anything about BJJ but I assume that kimoratown is simply a slang expression. And not an actual term
cadkls I know thanks. I was wondering if that kimura with all that previous movements had a diferent name. Thank you tho.
I am guilty of all of these. Oss
Trex arms 😁💪🏼
Dont put your arm there or i can rip it off like this!
- advanced guy on my second session yesterday
This guy sounds like a less stoned Eddie Bravo.
Thanks... I guess? = )
Why wouldn't my insurance company not like me using proper jiu jitsu technique?
Do you mean, why wouldn't your insurance not want to cover? = ) It's not to be taken in literal terms
to overly exaggerated.. takes from lesson..
1. They start with bjj ;)
everything explained in this video is "cosplay a t-rex"
