These kinds of scenes chock-full of character and millions of little details were one of my favorite things to drool over when browsing the old White Dwarf magazines. Super impressive stuff and I bet it was so much fun to do, too
You can just feel, that this was produced with love and passion. Absolutely fantastic content, Eric! Thank you for providing us with these inspiring videos.
"My other steed is a Hippogryph!" Seriously mate, this is so lovely to see and so inspiring for fellow Old World fans. I love how you've actually detailed where you got the different models from. You see Highland Miniatures Bretonnians, incidentally?
@@bugnazbinnyking1198 Oh yeah, Perry Miniatures puts out all kinds of great historical models. I've been eying their medieval stuff for Bretonnian or Cities of Sigmar forces, and their various kits are used heavily in the Sludge and Turnip28 scene for "bleakpowder" kitbashing purposes.
I have seen em, yet to order any. I have several times made like a $200 dollar cart on their site then chickened out since i have so many unpainted bretonnians already. Maybe this xmas 🎅
Everything looks incredible. This is the vibe I remember from old wargames. I've been looking forward to an update on your knights since the last video
Brilliant. I especially like that you have done a wonderful job of relating the actual historical context of the event and the people who lived it. The figures, painting, and crafting are, as usual, excellent. I think the rather worn down minstrel looks like Jack Palance. ;-) And in my youth I wore the quartered black and gold livery, so an extra +1 for pleasant flashbacks. Cheers!
This screams Full Tilt from White Dwarf, which inspired me to want to collect Brets way back (never did get enough of them). I love all the extra characters you built into it from the other lines, awesome stuff!
Dude your videos bring me back to the days of reading white dwarf magazine terrain tutorials when I was a kid, maybe one day I'll get back into the hobby. Until then I will keep enjoying your content.
You have a knack for detail, both in your craft and in the presentation of historical context. The hoofprints in the dirt... eye-popping! The tales of each character, too, left me smiling. Great video!
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop If you're looking for collaboration ideas, you could invite some of your favorite UA-camrs/friends to paint up their own "Knight Character and Retinue" and invite them to the tourney!
As a Renaissance Faire enthusiast of many years, I really appreciated this scene and all the figures! Also the details like purple being a rare color (true: it was associated with royalty because it was so expensive until mauveine/aniline purple dye was invented in the 1850s). Great job!
I love the accurate historical commentary over this, and it's clear you've actually done in depth research into it and your heraldry knowledge, hope to hear more of it over more images of your awesome bretonnia miniatures
Another amazing video! So much goodness to take away from this. First off, I will say again I love your Bretonnians and I love that you painted the bases in the old green base style. Also, thank you for sharing where many of those townsfolk miniatures came from! Those are very cool. (Reaper miniatures have made some fantastic townsfolks miniatures over the years). The terrain, top notch. I like how you used coffee stir sticks instead of just carving the foam, although I think carving would look very cool (doing foam railings is a pain though, lol). The tents! Now I need to get some shop towels, lol. Mel the Terrain Tutor had a technique using baby wipes which I've done, and that material is excellent if anyone is looking for other ways to do tents. The pitch!! Magnificent! Those hoof prints! WHAT!? Seriously, inspired and so simple. Amazing and gorgeous! Can't wait for the second part and the big showcase!!
This is a very great build I really love the world building you made and the classic colors and I was impressed by the research about jousting it made me feel I was at the ren fair again very well done
Eric man what an excellent video- from the depth of the history to the editing and even the soundtrack. This is some seriously high quality content, both entertaining and informational. Honestly man, great work! Really glad to be a subscriber!
I just have to give props for a bit of proper medieval music. That sounds like "Adam Lay Ybounden" starting at around 10:10, during the tent building. That was a delightful surprise.
What an amazing project! I love the attention to ALL the details, and there's a lot of detail! The brush handle trick to help keep the wave pattern in the pennants is genius!
That's a beautiful and detailed work. Looks fantastic so far. Sometimes when I see things made in your and other creators videos I finding myself scratching my head "That's so easy!" Looking forward to the second part!
Gotta say, you're quite the talented painter. I am aware your channel is almost exclusively terrain content, but the odd painting tutorial might be a welcome addition. Just a thought. Really liked getting to see the old Ral Partha stuff, as they were still a pretty big deal when I first started painting in the early 90's, and the shop towel tents are truly fantastic. Will be here with bells on waiting for the next one, and enjoy the rest of your week.
This is your best video ever. I’ve watched it like 10 times, not only is the build fantastic but the pacing and organization of it too. Fantastic work!
I've just discovered your channel recently and you've inspired me so much. I'd never heard of Full Tilt and now I'm basing a whole d&d campaign around it.
I know I recall there being rules for a Bretonnian tournament game in an issue of White Dwarf from back in the 90's. It came with cardboard fold out stands as well as the tilting rail.
I'd seen other videos of your's that are quite good, this one was so good, I subscribed. Appreciate your approach, comments, and wrapping with good video, too. Thank you!
Awesome video! I loved all the medievalism. It seems like miniatures that got me into wargaming and the only one's I still collect (5th edition Bretonnians) are having a much-deserved revival. Great job. Subscribed!
The love you put in this fun little project makes me think you’re cool person that would be fun to sit down with and talk medieval things with hahaha I really loved this thanks for the video
This video has inspired me, I finally know what I want to do for my space marines, Personal Heraldy. I'm kinda a need for Heraldy I often design it in my free time. This video helped me to put two and two together, thank you Eric.
I had to watch this video again just so I could take screenshots and try to track down all of these miniatures. And I agree that one Perry Miniature looks like Sir Ian
What a great video Eric. Been watching your videos for the last 6 months or so. Fantastic stuff. I like the way you relate parts of the hobby you enjoy with world history or modern culture. Great stuff. All the best from Scotland. ✌️
I love your work mate! :D By the way, if my memory serves, long ago in a White Dwarf magazine were some interesting joulsting rules along with paper tents etc. I can't remember the exact issue, but the year was 1998 and Nigel Stillman was part of it (I think). While we're on it, he had a bunch of fantastic articles about Bretonnia that same year! Heraldry, painting, building, converting etc. The articles was released in no:219-222. It's a excellent read! Cheers! Ps. Oh and yes, tale of the four armys was also in 1998. Good old times! Ds.
I come back to this series every so often such a great video. From the tutorials, video inserts, background knowedge/history! Really would like to set up an ASOIAF themed version of this!
I just keep coming back to watch this, Love your work mate! So inspirational! The colours of your Brettonian pageantry may be inspiring my wife and I to do a warhammer fantasy escalation league of our own. Bringing Fantasy back like its the late 90s, assuming the recent birth of our own child doesnt derail that plan lol. Cheers mate and looking forward to your next video!
This is so awesome! This is exactly the type of WH conent i was looking for. I really like all this worldbuilding people allways make it about the armies only.. Hope this get's more wiews in the future 😊
Strong work there, looks absolutely fantastic. I love seeing the minis from other manufacturers there. I'm going to have to borrow that stand design in the future.
So smart to wet the paper towels to make the tents look more like fabric. You should make a TikTok account, your construction videos are so satisfying to watch :)
It took me a while to find them, but the nobleman at 4:56 and some of the ladies shown are all from the same Ral Partha blister pack, called ‘01-018 Three Ladies and a Hero’
So cool!! And love the history lesson as well! I really miss the Bretonnians. They were the first warhammer miniatures that I painted, and the other day after a very long break I wanted to paint some again, just to learn they were discontinued...
This is incredible! I love the attention to detail, step-by-step explanations and matching relaxing music. I came here to check out which civilian miniatures you used and ended up subscribing!

The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle. The chalice from the palace has the brew that is true.
Ah medieval Tournaments!
I REALLY REALLY LIKE THIS!!!!
I'm gonna kitbash some Brite Minis to make my knights.
And make a special one for each one of my family memebers.

The Perry sculpt at 04:42 reminds me of Michael Gambon in The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover!
that flag and pencil trick is great! good video mate!
