In case you were curious, the movies I used footage from are Ivanhoe(1953), El Cid(1961) Monty Python and the Holy Grail(1975) and A Knight’s Tale (2001). Thanks for watching 🗡
Have you seen Ivanhoe (1982)? Some really good tournament scenes in that one. The back half of this video has some clips from one of the tournaments in the film. ua-cam.com/video/X4XrBkECeo0/v-deo.html
El Cid, one of the greatest knights of all time!
Great video...Black Knight project on the horizon. :)
Amazing video m8
A truely fantastic video Eric
This is the only enjoyable battle report I've ever watched.
Big agree
While not the only battle report I've enjoyed this year, it is one of them. I'd say top 10 at least, i watch a lot of battle reports though. Great job on all that you and Eric do .
That’s a little too harsh, isn’t it? 😂
@@GrayArmyGaming lol, I just don't like battle reports. But that's just me.
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial Totally! 😂 By the way, I love what you do with your own channel. Great stuff! Have been subscribed and following for years. Keep up the good work! 👊😊
This format is great as it introduces people to a game, shows many aspects of the miniature hobby itself and tells a story that teaches history and elevates it from just a tutorial. Bravo
I like how you took what many would think of as a simple throw away game from White Dwarf and give it so much love. So much that you really elevate it to a higher level. Awesome job.
Or.... You just lacked imagination.
@@TheKodiak72 like you lack empathy?
@@Mikebusterso what you're saying is he's not wrong he's just an asshole?
I’m so here for these knightly names. 😂 Also if you want to see what might be one of the funniest tournament/duel scenes ever made, I recommend The Court Jester.
Love your songs
I see you are a woman of culture.
Why Hildegard, fancy seeing you here...
Just did a double take, the fandoms of Warhammer and Bardcore are entwining and breaking the Matrix 😂
@@spectralimages8961 The algos know too much!
I played Pendragon at my gaming club in high school which our history teacher ran. He had us all design our own coat of arms and the painted knight miniatures for each of us to play with based on the colours of our designs. He then printed out the coat of arms to match the scale of the shields on the miniatures so he could cut them out and glue them on. Not only did my knight use the same exact colours as your Jean Sanglier, but also had a boar as in his crest, along with it being on top of his helmet. Just a cool coincidence I guess.
I absolutely adore how colourful White Dwarf used to be, especially the small, hilarous doodle artworks (like the troll hiding behind a rock bonking a queue of confused orcs to throw into his pot iirc) for Fantasy, let alone these little games. I still have the issue with the ork bar room brawl and the dark eldar wych gladiator pit minigame, they're soooo fun. Love this video :D
The Ork Bar Room Brawl was great fun! The games store I used to visit allowed us to have these WD games and this was one of my favorites. I'll never forget "Kicked in the Danglies"
What I grew up on, why I drifted away from the hobby. The grim dark serious, low colour is kinda boring and tedious.
I am a longtime Warhammer Fantasy player, a Old World Bretonnian player, and a college history professor, specializing in Ancient amd Medieval History. That said, this video was nothing short of pure awesomeness! Loved it. And what a fantastic job you did with the charge on that shield. I love Artois amongst all the Duchies. Wonderful!
The green knight is a gorgeous model, really wish they'd do another MTO run of him. Or all the knights really.
I've loved this series. Really makes me understand why people love Bretonnia so much.
Forgeworld are doing the old world remake of the original fantasy rules - including bretonnians so hopefully will see new k ought models at some point
Want mto relique
New would be cool but I'd welcome finecast of the originals
Think of us poor skaven players without any cavalry
@@incredibleflameboy Glue them atop one another. Voila! Joust away, ratbro.
That Guy Sanderre looks like the epitome of chivalry himself! I've heard he's suffered a horrific face injure in the last tournament though... Some even whisper that it was at the hands of his own brother! Excellent work, btw, truly impressive tourney ground. Wish I could do it myself!
🐶 😉
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop Great video, but I found the music to be way to loud. I strongly suggest lowering it for future videos or even better not having it at all. I strongly believe background music is distracting, annoying, and unnecessary especially for videos with lots of talking. I also believe that generic background music doesn't really add anything useful and that people have to mentally filter out. Plus it will be one less thing you have to do when making videos.
Honestly I've been trying to understand the order of operations for dice rolling in 40k and how Strength and Toughness and Saves all apply and this explains it sssooo cleanly. Thank you!
This is easily one of the coolest things I've ever seen, definitely helps I'm a massive Bretonnian fan, but absolutely amazing job!
These were one of my first sets of warhammer as a child. I didn’t ever learn how to properly paint, play the game or even what they were. But I loved every second of playing with them and poorly painting them lol
Was hoping to see the crowd sing "we will rock you" 😂 Full tilt looks like a fun game to play!
yes and that song with champion?
"Wooo, this was fun"
Well said!
This is the single greatest UA-cam video I have ever seen! I’m not kidding. Dream come true to watch this. Amazing job on not just the modeling and paint job but the video production sounds design and fun mini play! La Vash!
Nice work Eric, this clearly has a lot of passion in it!
I love the use of French for almost all the knights, I hope everyone understood the hidden meanings in the names, they were pretty funny.
Fetché la Vache should have won for the perfect use of frenglish and the Monty Python nod alone x)
@@k.v.7681 yeah, that one was funny
The winning knight is a chicken I think?
@@Scrimjer Sort of. In terms of sounds yes, given that we use the english for the "oo" sound, equivalent to the french "ou" (poule means chicken, or rather hen, poulet is chicken). "oo" doesn't exist as is in french apart from loan words.
@@Scrimjer basically yes
My wife made the mistake of going on vacation this week out of country. Im doing this with my kids while she's gone! Im really excited to use this as a gateway to teach my monsters about medieval life!
Thank you for putting up this video. This was a lot of fun for me and the kids to watch. They're legit excited about this!
A medieval tournament is a fun game setting for everyone!! A fantastic setting for a table top convention- always a favorite with lots of dice rolling and yelling!
As a french speaker, those names were really well chosen, kudos!
J 'avoue.
"jeter la vache".. Fallait osé
I remember that issue of WD! It came with fun little cardstock tents. Anybody remember the Ork bar room brawl game?
You have come so far from orky kit bashing! This is an incredibly engaging presentation style. Well done sir.
Seeing it all come together and play out is incredible. Amazing work!
Amazing video all of the work in the previous video really makes this one shine, the background is so detailed and really gets you into the moment.
Outstanding video Eric - truly a labor of love. Congratulations Anna! Only the purest heart wins a tournament like this :)
Please do a series out of this useing all the terrain you built, do a back story and campaign for all of your knights. This was thoroughly enjoyable
D O G S O F W A R ! ! !
Do it, Eric, do it! They're one of my favourite armies and I've been collecting, building and painting an army of them for years now, as of writing I'm sitting pretty with over 200 OG pikemen for the force(I don't use nearly that many, but you take the lots and deals as they pop up to you).
The fluff in the DoW book was an awesome take on Italy. One of my favorite stories related to Knights of the Realm jousting DoW Knights. The Knights of the Realm were bested and upon inspection for magical influences in the DoW Knights, none could be found. The wins were attributed to the DoW Knights having slightly longer lances. Great stuff!
@@futuregit Yeah! That was Voland's Venators that went against the Bretonnians. The old 5th ed book had such great fluff, the short stories and unit entries are fantastic.
This battle report is awesome! Had a blast watching this episode! Amazing content Eric, thanks and happy new year bro!
This was great man! Definitely one of my favorite battle reports, and a great intro to the game of Full Tilt
Honestly I love when they add sub games that add to the main game it just adds so much flavour
Outstanding job on the video and the minis, Ive played this game a few times and every time I loved how it played out!
Enormous fun, and a real blast of nostalgia for me. Thank you so much!
This is the most underrated UA-cam hobby channel
Stillman was the boss back in the day. Huge influence on how I use narrative in my armies!
Full titl is so well done! Excellent job! You should do the squig racing one next 😎
Oh, bravo! VERY well done - great animation. One of the best battle reports I've ever seen.
This video is an awesome display of your creativity and knowledge. Knocked it out of the park!
Awesome video Eric! Really enjoyed this series comprised of hobby and history culminating in this epic battle with your wife. Well done! 🤘
Thanks Colin! Full tilt is a quick an easy game… I’m easing her in to wargaming and so far so good!
Can't get enough of your french accent ! Discovered your awesome channel recently, so refreshing to see such positive passion put into the game. Bravo !
Man- This was VERY VERY GOOD. Great video- thank you for all the work.
This video was simply just fun to watch! The ruler pushing everything was so funny. Everything was wonderfully built and painted.
I had like a mini heart attack when you were going to cut off the head of The Green Knight. We should always use the minis we own to the nest of their ability to be played with, and too many a hobbyist puts off painting or kitbashing a special model, but something about OOP pewter models begs to be kept.
I have a hard time even green stuffing an old pewter.
Eric!!! This video was so fun! A pure joy to watch and listen to. Nostalgic too. Thank you!
Your video placed a lovely smile on my face last night, big thanks.. after hunting the void I found the Pdf...I must say it would have made a lovely christmas day game with some plastic knights for all the family for those not into games like these... many thanks for the new years eve gift....
What a great video! Loved all the attention to detail and care for the lore. Great modelling!
Well done Eric and Hannah! This is a magnificent find and very entertaining battle report - wonderfully presented!
Not once hast a tale been so noble, for knightly honors bestowed upon yhee minis and thy self for a splendid epersode.
This is just so cool truly amazing the amount of effort put into this diorama
Fantastic work Eric. I really enjoyed this video. In fact, I'll have to watch it again at home on the big screen. Might have to share this with my SCA buddies as well.
Eric I love this. I love the oldhammer, the positive vibes, everything wonderful. Just bought one of your shirts off Etsy. Keep it up!
I loved this video and have been really enjoying this series of videos. Great Job Eric!
This was awesome! The knight names were hysterical, and you truly created an immersive gaming space.
Dude this was well done. Simple rules and fun setting makes it easy to teach people the rules. I could see this being a favourite on game nights when time is a bit short. Also love the movie style you did through out. You really made it feel like the minis were alive
This was great! Definitely one of the best tabletop gaming videos I've seen. I loved the stop motion and that you took a look at things from many different angles and even broke things up with a little hobbying there for the Black Knight. I'm excited to watch more of your content!
Yeah, the spot-motion was great, and the stick-motion was a lot of fun too.
The mix of all hobby elements was just great! Modeling, Painting, Showing a new game, storytelling and battlereport!
This video is great! And thanks for introducing the Full Tilt game. Something really to look into.
Love the variety content! Warhammer minigames are always so fun
This is the kind of content I've always wanted to see and/or make. So you have definitely inspiring to me to work on wargame content with educational bits.
Awesome video and thank you so much for making such amazing content! Also, love that you did a video on this game version! I loved being able to watch something on it (I have the Generals Handbook with it in it, but never got to play it.)
This was amazing. The hobby/modeling, the explanation of the game and the video/production were all superb. 12 out of 5 ⭐️.
I love how I learn history and also see some great painted models. Awesome video.
I can't believe you guys brought this to life. I mean the colors, rules, and the painstaking building and painting all of it. Beautiful work.
I remember this! Awesome trip down memory lane, and great production! Subbed!
Thanks man, this was very entertaining. Considering this is a game that clearly doesn't even need minis, you made a fantastic bat rep =)
by far, your best video ever and something like this shows why you are a bright star amongst your peers.
Such a fun and colorful battle report! Your mention of squires decked out in the livery of their knight inspired me to make similarity liveried retinues for my Grail Knights. Knights of the Realm, Knigjts Errants, Mounted scouts, and a variety of foot soldier Men at Arms are finally getting properly painted.
I loved watching this video. You sir are one awesome and talented gamer/modeler/painter/story teller. Your imagination is sooo inspirational. Please never stop. 🥰🥰🥰
It's amazing how something this simple left a smile on my face throughout the whole video.
This, along with the previous build video for the tournament grounds, has to be one of my favorite videos on your entire channel!
Well Done, this is a great combination of describing the rules and walking through a game. Nice video shots too. So many youtube gamers focus the camera on the people talking rather than on the table. Not that we don't like seeing your face, but what we all really want are your voice over and great shots of your beautiful tables. Thanks so much
So much love and attention given to an old WD mini-game warms this old heart!
Was painting my chuldhood bretonnians and this came up when looking for something to play in the background. Excellent video 😊
Congratulations. I remember a few episodes back, you were trying to figure out a way to get your wife to join in a game with you; it appears you've finally crossed the Rubicon. Sounds like she even had fun. Furthermore, you quite slyly (and underhandedly, I might add) got me to watch a battle report, which goes against the very fiber of my being; chalk up another win for your side. Great content as ever, and I even learned a few new words today, so thanks for that. Have a safe and happy new year, and we'll see you on the other side.
Sneaky battle reports are the best kind :)
An amazing project, and a great video to show it off. Such colourful models, fun characters and an exciting story! A few years ago, Nigel Stillman brought his Bretonnian army to the annual gathering of the Oldhammer community at Wargames Foundry. It was a real treat to see them in the actual metal.
This is the best video I've watched on UA-cam in a while. Seeing it come together from the previous videos was great too.
What got me into the Fantasy genre was knights and tales of chivalry. Bretonnians are one of those armies I always wanted to start, but never had the guts to try because of all the detail in the heraldry. You have inspired me to consider it. I have the battle box in my pile of shame.
Really liked that - happy new year
you have done an amazing job on this video with all the stuff you have made its incredible , i had that white dwarf when it came out
This was awesome!! You two did such a great, impressive job in every aspect of this project. I did stop-motion animation back in the day which adds to the joy of watching this. You definitely got me hooked on “Full Tilt”. definitely gonna look into it!
Wow, blast of nostalgia, I used to have that edition of white dwarf, never played the game though. Thanks for the video!
Brilliant video! Keep up the great work.
Great video, loved the format and the physical and digital animation. 👍
I love this narrative style of video!!
Incredible format and production! Would love more videos ;D
That was super fun! Thanks for sharing!
This is so cool! Great video. Thank you so much!
I enjoyed this way more than I should have. Well done!
I love the tableaux of the herald announcing the tourney
I can imagine a DnD party hearing the call and having their chances at a joust if they needed some extra coin!
I had the idea a while back for an all-knight D&D campaign. Where the party all had nightly titles, and adventured as much to gain Prestige as to acquire treasure. While slaying monsters, rescuing endangered civilians, and thwarting dastardly villains were viable methods of gaining Prestige, they could also engage in other methods. Challenging other knights to duels, going on holy pilgrimages, retrieving lost relics, or participating in tournaments.
"Knight", in this case, would be a title, not a strict description of the PC's character class. So while the PCs with armor and mounts would join the jousts, spellcasters could engage in arcane duels, ranged combatants could join an archery competition, Monks might square off in martial arts competitions, and Bards might try to out-perform others in a musical or performing contest. All the players could have a chance to earn Prestige in a manner fitting their party role.
I guess they'd have had to have chosen the Noble Background, or got Geoffrey Chaucer to forge them a parent of nobility. 😁 Otherwise they would not be fit to we walk in the garden of Black Knight's turbulence.
If you whant to play knightly game I really recommend two arthurian RPGs: Pendragon and Prince Valiant.
Truly an amazing video. Love your content man, keep it up!
Stumbled upon this video through UA-cam recommendations and I'm not disappointed. Although I'm not into Warhammer gaming, this simple game gives my Lego Joust sets and knights new life with easily adaptable rules. Thank you and good work.
Great Video. I remember whem we first got this White Dwarf, a friend of mine had the Bretonnian Knights and then we started constructing the tents and the other stuff. It was a fun to play. A couple of years ago I found this issue of the White Dwarf and started to reconstruct the tournament, this time with Fireforge Knights and scratchbuild buildings like you did in your tutorial. I love the style of your animation and the whole style of your video.
That was great fun to watch! May have to build my own tourney now
Thanks for explaining the wounds/toughness/armor save business. I watch a lot of Warhammer 40k stuff but have no idea what they are rolling and why. This made sense.
Love love love this mini series keep it coming
Salutations Sir Eric ! Absolutely love those Bretonnians of yours... I was eager to see those in action but this Jousting game is absolutely brillant ! And hearing their names in my native language was just the cherry on top, I was in shambles every time ! I'm quite intruiged by Georges Le Batard though... A terrible name, and a befitting crest on his helm ! Commoners usually chose the Lion for their heraldry ("Qui n'a pas de nom a un Lion pour blason", as they say, Who has no name bears a Lion on his shield) but Georges must have some interesting qualms about his ancestry, or a rather colourful personnality ! Same goes for Le Main... The correct french way of saying it should be La Main, or Le Poing (the Fist), but the misgender combined with his Knightly Virtue makes for a great double entendre, as "maint" is an old french adjective meaning "many" or "plenty", giving away either his wealth and arrogance or his true origins as a commoner ! Anyways, I disgress, it was beautiful and inspiring as always.
I’m glad you liked the names! I read somewhere that a bend sinister indicates bastardy in heraldry, so Georges Le Batards name reflects that. In my imaginary backstory, he is the bastard son of a noble, and he won his knighthood by slaying a green dragon, which he took as his crest! I have an excel document keeping track of all the names and backstories … 😂
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop I knew this knight had some interesting backstory ! You are right indeed, the Barre is a common sign of bastardry used to "diminish" the honour of a Coat of Arms, the most famous example of this practice being Jean "the Bastard of Orléans", a companion of Joan of Arc. I love how much detail and thought you put in those characters, and I'm not surprised in the least that you had to write some of it down to keep track !
Loved this video! Truly a great ending of 2021!
Thumbnail looks sweet with that classic board game box art vibe. Great vid my man
That was a fun one! Love the hand held animations, haha!
I totally get what you meant when you said you were hesitant to convert a classic metal model - I've had the same problem myself! This was a great video, thank you for making it.
Brava Mrs. Hobby Workshop! Congratulations!
This was really fun to watch. Pretty chill vibes but a thrilling tale of knightly competition :D
Amazing scenery and set! I remember these rules from White Dwarf! Great way to get a quick game in.
