Just went all organic as well! Humic 12, RGS, MicroGreene, Air8 and Dethatch!
2.5 gallons of each! Milorganite too!
Had a soil test and needed massive amounts of lime my lawns were so acidic. Low doses of lime over time though.
Now getting rid of most weeds. The toughest has been Nimblewill. Lawns are looking great though. Go Super Recycler as well.

Great video Allyn! They just keep getting better. Hope the showing of your house went well. I put down 4 bags of Milorganite on my lawn yesterday along with milky spore for grub control. Since using your advice, I now have to mow twice a week! My lawn is awesome, the only problem is that it is not visible from the road, so there is no display of dominance against neighboring lawns.

@lawncarenut Thanks for making this video you helped me a ton. The last couple of years I have used Scott's 4step which says right on the bag what to set it to. This year I switched to a 4 step program formulated for the intermountain west. The product bag had no settings listed on it anywhere I was freaking out until I came across this video. Thanks to your formula and some quick math I was able to figure out how much of the product to put on my lawn and didnt have to risk guessing and burning the piss out of my lawn. So thanks again now I can stop worrying and get out and get it applied.

I bought the Scott's Mini and put out Scott's DiseaseEX for greyspot. I measured out 4lbs (the curative rate per 1000 sq ft) did an edge pass and two straight passes, all gone. I used the curative rate per the bag and it took the entire bag of product to a little over 1200 sq ft. I thought it would have been a little more accurate than that!

Why don’t you cover drop spreaders? I royally Fkng hate rotary spreaders because they end up tossing ferts on the sidewalks. No, I will not adjust my distance like you did on the video. I get better coverage with my Scotts drop spreader.

I use 16 bags on just under 1-acre. I think they suggest you use twice what your using.
About 43,000 square feet in one acre. One sack of Milorganite covers 2500 square feet. That’s the 36-lb bags of course.
Maybe you are using larger bags of it??

Have you had any experience with a lawn spreader that's 2 wheel drive? By this, I mean every one I've tested in the store only has a single drive wheel. I assume this has to do with differentials and being able to turn gracefully...but this is not a car, and I don't need the wheels to spin at different rates when I'm turning. I'd like one where BOTH wheels can each spin the impeller. My reasons? Well, I fertilize a hill side-to-side and sometimes depending on my direction of travel, I don't get the results I'd like. Rather than explain the issue, I'd suggest you think about physics and levels, and maybe you can visualize the trouble I'm having. I've developed work-arounds, but simply have a spreader where both wheel work would be great.

I know that's where you used to live, but have some questions about that property:
1.- Did you have an irrigation system? If so, what was your water schedule?
2.- Did you use fungicides during the summer to keep the lawn green?
3.- Mowing height? How many inches? Looks like a Bluegrass lawn, is it?
4.- What was your zip code in that area?
Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

    • @Thelawncarenut
      @Thelawncarenut  9 років тому +2

megafast13 you can't over-fert with it because it is organic... so in terms of that, it won't burn anything like a synthetic fert. But too much of any Nitrogen product will push overgrowth and that is not healthy.

all you that want a good lawn should go get certification through your local Agriculture Department you will learn all this in the basic manual and you can do damage by putting too much organic material down just to let you know you break the integrity of your soil the microbial degradation that happens is sped up tremendously
