  • In this video I show you how to fertilize your lawn the RIGHT WAY and the Wrong way. The key is to make sure that you are getting an even spread throughout the entire lawn. I thank you for tuning in and I hope this information helps you.
    Thanks, Polo

    Nice video Polo! Just wanted to share my rookie mistake. I always found myself running out of product or using more than the recommended spreader rate. 🤔
    This can be contributed to a few different factors such as walking speed or incorrect calibration of spreader. In my case, I realized that I was making my paths right next to my previous path instead of ensuring I was spaced further out and throwing product back to the previous tire. That’s a great tip. Thanks for sharing! I’ve been learning a lot.

    Great job with this video, Polo. You explained this so well. With such clarity. Your lawn looks great by the way. Glory be to God! I am in the field of education, and I was imagining you teaching a math class with the precision you showed. I also appreciated your use of repetition for review. I will be applying your advice, no pun intended, to my next fertilizing of grass. By the way, I was tossing some fertilizer by hand with gloves for the edges, since I used my relatively new Scott's Rotary Spreader edge guard on the lines. Don't know what you think about that. I also noticed that just passing over my lawn once didn't seem to get enough product out so I ended up doing various passes with various different overlaps. And I did my best to estimate the proper amount of product based on the size of my lawn. It just seems to me that not alot of fertilizer gets out on just one spreading. I think I did this last time and things seemed to work out pretty well. If you like acoustic guitar with voice, 60s, 70s and 80s mostly, feel free to check my channel. May God bless you and yours! Hello Luis, first of all, great job on the guitar. You're still using the gift that God gave you, and that is wonderful 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
      Second, as far as the spreader goes, I know that you're doing what you know and that's fine but if you have an edge guard on that spreader, you shouldn't have to spread fertilizer by hand on those edges. Next time when you're fertilizing your edges, put one wheel on the concrete and one wheel on the grass. When you have that edge guard on, it will prevent fertilizer from spreading in the street and sidewalk. The little fertilizer that gets on the ground, you can either blow it or sweep it into the grass. This will do exactly what you're doing by hand. I hope I explained this so that you can understand.
      Thank you for your kind words as well. Every time I make a video, I try to explain it so that everyone on all levels can understand, and with that understanding, it brings wisdom.
      Thank you for your support, Luis, and may God continue to bless you, your wife, and your family as well.

      So grateful for your response, Polo. You were very generous with your advice and comments. And again, your precision really helps. Thank you for the encouragement to use God's gifts! What you said about how to handle the edges--halfway on the sidewalk with the edgeguard on--makes alot of sense and saves me time. Will also definitely keep sweeping the walkway of any stray fertilizer, and since I have two smaller sections of grass still to go, I will apply your advice this afternoon while it is still fresh in my memory. Gonna subscribe to your channel right now! Thank you for your blessings.

    Not sure where to start… Just retired with no real hobbies. Sitting in my patio drinking my morning away with coffee. Looking at my backyard thinking that lawn sucks. And watching you explain in the simplest way all wrong things that your channel says not to do.
    Now I believe I’m moving in the right direction do you have any tips on how to level a lawn?

    I just wanted share my experience with a spreader. Disclaimer this isn't my first rodeo. My old spreader wheel axle broke so I bought a cheapo. Laid some Lesco with the Scotts Edge guard mini and it gave me fert lines everywhere I walked. Edge guard was not open & I applied the correct rate. I can't recommend this spreader to anyone, piece of junk. If you search online the cheaper Scotts spreaders are notorious for this type of thing. I went out and bought a better one, more expensive one (not named Scott, that will never touch my lawn again lol). Since I've been spraying & fertilizing my own lawn I've realized its best to go with good equipment right away & not the cheap equipment. I'm no expert, but skip the cheap stuff & bite the bullet. Good stuff in the video.

      Yes sir I agree. Going with a commercial spreader might last longer and spread more efficient. But some people have to go with what their budget allows. Thanks for tuning in Sir.

    Hi sir. Great video. This really helped. My question is after you turn around to do another row, when do you engage the handle for the seed to come out? Is it right when you see that it will hit the part of the perimeter that you’ve already done? Or is it totally the opposite, that you engage right after you pass the perimeter stripe? I guess I’m asking when do you stop and start engaging before you turn around to do another row?

    • @PoloFieldsLawnService
      @PoloFieldsLawnService  4 місяці тому

      Hello Chad, I will engage/ disengage when I see the fertilizer or seed hit the beginning of the turf. For example, when I'm coming from the street onto the turf, I will engage my spreader before my wheels hit the turf. The same thing applies if im fertilizing headed towards the sidewalk or street. I will disengage the spreader right when i get close to the edge. The fertilizer that is on the concrete or asphalt, I will just blow or sweep it into the turf when I'm finished. I hope this helps 👍🏾

    • @PoloFieldsLawnService

      Hello Horace, it all depends on what fertilizer you're using. For example, if you're going out with a Scott's turf builder, which I think is a 32-0-4, right now, I wouldn't put down anymore than 1/2 lbs per 1,000 sqft.

    What setting do you use on the Spyker spreader?

    Any tips or vids on this?

    • @PoloFieldsLawnService
      @PoloFieldsLawnService  2 роки тому +1

      Hello, it all depends on what your spreading. Smaller granulars will be on a lower setting like 3 or 4. But most fertilizers will cater to Spyker Spreaders and will have a number on the bag as far as what number you'll need to put the spreader on.

    Can someone explain something
    My hard is 21,000 sqft
    I bought a 40lb bag that covers 15k sfeet
    I used the scotts mini spreader at the prescribed setting (3.25) and did my whole yard and barley used a quarter of the bag
    Did I do something wrong ?

    • @PoloFieldsLawnService
      @PoloFieldsLawnService  4 місяці тому

      Hello, your walking pace is too fast. Use the method in this video wherw your throwing your fertilizer to your previous tire marks and slow your pace down. With a bag that covers 15k and your sqft of your lawn is 21k, you should have used that entire bag plus more. The next time that you fertilize, walk slower and see how that goes for you.

    • @SanJoseMA
      @SanJoseMA 4 місяці тому +1

      @@PoloFieldsLawnService thank you for your response!
      Should I go over one more time at a slower pace since I didn't use the whole bag?

    • @PoloFieldsLawnService
      @PoloFieldsLawnService  4 місяці тому +1

      @SanJoseMA no, leave it be and see what results that you get with what you put down. If you like the results, keep doing it that way because what you're ultimately doing is spoon feeding it. If you don't like the results, the next time that you fertilize it, slow your pace down 👍🏾
