Wow, Alex knows more about her engine than a lot of good mechanics. She's lucky to have a father that brought her up to know everything that is going on with her/his cars. He's lucky to have a daughter so hands on and smart. It's clear she is not a spoiled brat and appreciates and works hard for what she has.
To check the bore size on the big end and small end of the rods look into air gauges. They are more precise. The heat in your hand can affect the reading of a snap gauge or a micrometer and calipers. I used them at work for rod bearings beater clearance.
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen. Completely describes the entire engine, and why certain parts were chosen. Can't wait to see the outcome!
This channel is going to go INSANELY VIRAL very soon! The information in this video is so valuable. Best of luck to the Taylor family on the upcoming events!

Thank you very much. I’m 65 and like your dad I love the in and outs of the motor. Nobody makes these kind of videos anymore. My bucket list would be watching someone like your dad putting a motor together from start to smoke. So thank you very much for sharing.
That’s great news guys, I’m happy to see it coming together, but more importantly that Dennis is getting his motor back, I hope to see you guys racing together soon
One of the enduring "great things" about motorsport is that there are many good answers- there are also many differing situations. Then it comes down to "it's your motor- it has your parts in it, so it's is all your choice". I've been challenged a few times for my decisions, this leads invariably to "It works for me this year and the last five, and nobody's got time to fix it if it aint broke to begin with!". Once I built a really nice '67 Chevy C 10 and painted it metallic green; for all the guff, I paid for the paint and it got mentioned in Semi Custom in a show I entered. My paint, my car, my way. So, build well, build conservative and enjoy the ride- and put one in Steve's eye again!
I've had the same RaceTec pistons in my little 12.5 to 1 c/r 355 for 4 yrs now. Indestructible so far. Price wasn't the cheapest, but the reliability is priceless.
Loved watching your dad geek out over the engineering going into the motor; you can tell he loves that stuff. Watching you hand off to him & letting him run was priceless. Thanks, Alex. The insight was tremendous.
Wow, I am an old motor head and this is one of the most concise motor videos I have seen. Father and Daughter teams are BadAss, to begin with, but Alex you are definitely much more than a driver, Your understanding of the function, design, and application of all the components is phenomenal. Your Dad must be the proudest father at the track. I learned a lot about some of the new technology being used in today's Hot rods. Good Luck with the 2024 Season.
Your 55 is hands down my favorite car you guys have! Scott Taylor is such a nice guy and well connected!!! glad he got you guys hooked up, can't wait to see that motor come to life.
I used to hang out in a shop owned by my friend Patrick Mcreery here in Muncie. I would watch him rebuilding engines and transmissions and always had fun just being in that environment. Watching you and your dad takes me back to those days and puts a smile on my face. Keep up the great videos.

Dailey dry sumps with their billet pans have most of the scavenge lines built into the pan. The crank scraper is actually where the oil is scavenged and have screens built in incase debris makes its way into the pan the pump isnt ruined. His pumps are awesome too. The pressure section is a gear pump like the traditional sb/bb pump. The scavenge pumps move a lot of air so he uses mini roots blowers as pumps. The final scavenge stage is a centrifical blower. So the oil is whipped to the outside and the air remains on the inside and one scavenge line returns oil to the tank and the other returns mainly air. You need two return lines to the tank. One supply line to the pressure stage and an output line going through a remote mount filter and then oil cooler if you want then to the oil input on the engine block. Thats it unless you want to add additional scavenge sections for the lifter galley or valve cover or turbo drain lines. Peterson makes a nice remote filter mount that has a small oil pump built into it that you spin with a battery drill to prelube your engine whenever you want. You will retain horsepower your already making that is robbed from you by windage. You can prelube your engine each time you start it. If you run enough scavenge stages to pull 15in of vacuum in your crankcase it will pull the rings to the cylinder walls and they will seal better making more power. Eliminating the windage tray and crank scraper and moving the oil pump outside the engine actually makes a simpler oil system. Everything you invest in can be reused on other engines in the future. Better oil controll more horsepower without running a more radical setup or more boost. The ability to prelube your engine everytime you start it. Your just giving away horsepower and engine life by not having a beautiful billet aluminum Dailey oil pan and pump on your engine lol. daileyengineering.com/oil-pans/ daileyengineering.com/gm/chevy-big-block-mark-iv/ daileyengineering.com/oil-pumps/ petersonfluidsys.com/engine-vac-VacRegulator.html petersonfluidsys.com/filter-LargePrimerRemote.html

Steve morris just made a very informative video about piston design and redesigning his pistons for his smx. Also pistions coatongs which is very interesting you should check it out... If its good enough for a 5,000 hp drag and rrive might be good enough for y'all to look into 💪 talks about coating oil pump gears and all sorts of stuff.
So happy to see big block stuff. No mention of cam diameter and if that is something you have changed over the years or if you started and stayed I'm assuming at least 55 mm. Looking forward to seeing the results at the track. Hopefully the retro Nova gets back together this year.
Talk to Steve Morris on the bolt torque on the rods. After his rod delete issue he is very versed on rods. Not saying you are not, but sharing knowledge is the beauty of our families.

The "oring" is actually a "sealing ring" that's why the gap doesn't matter, the oring is for locking the gasket in place so it doesn't "push out"
Great content. I really enjoyed this video. Thanks!
Great info , always enjoy your channel .
Love all your content. Thank you
Interesting take on the 4 magnet crank timing ring. 36-1 and cam position sensor seems like thing should be better.
Curious on measuring the rod boars.
Be able to install a ring like a piston ring and measure the gap to convert to boar size.
