No it is not. But why would you waste money on it? Most of us who dyno do it to tune and/or diagnose. After a while you know exactly how much power each type of accessory robs. If you want to talk ACTUAL important factors think water temps and correction factors.

Pat is a great guy and he knows his stuff, don’t let the pencil protecter, flashlight and tale measure on his hip fool you. Most people do not know he was an instructor at SAM Tech back in the day. He also had a beautiful big block red G body Malibu they campaigned in NMCA. They won many NMCA titles and the car was featured in Hot Rod magazine.

Really nice stuff for bbc s.I raced around the millennium retiring 2007.But that is how it goes.I bought new Dart Pro 1 345 cc heads and with 8-71 my 100% streetable Malibu SS and cruised that around with occasional 9.624/142.945 mph. That was driven with M/T 18.5/15/33 and on airfield track.2004 I built a 538 bbc based on an old 90 s pro stock engine and 360 cc heads+the old blower. It was really enjoyable on the streets as it was so humble and appeared to have some torque. So,to track? we went and totally fried the converter! It smoked like steam engine in the starting 300 ft boiling tranny fluids and still managed to go 9.80 s.I bought a new converter which was far too rigid,of course.During the winter managed to find a nice 526 bbc with JE pistons and Brooks B-2 billet rods. Also acquired a 12-71 Magnesium Teflon stripped blower.Just out of curiosity assembled the engine without the blower and it went 9.922/141.702 NA. I also bought used Hoosier 22.5/15/34.5 slicks and stuffed them in my Malibu and I recorded 1.46 60 footers on normal virgin asphalt. That was quite nice as I terrorized local motor cycles in traffic lights.I remember one Hayabusa guy who just could not believe he was gaptized by old "Yankee" car.I retired in 2008 and sold Malibu to my friends who had been fans since mid 90 s.We had plans to make it really fast as there were 4 guys to pay for that but unfortunately this project has been dragging on ever since.

They claim to have 375 horsepower Hot Rod Magazine said tri-north of 500 horsepower. I would love it if you guys could find one and bring it to stock specs and Dyno and see what happened. Then Advance the cam timing and see what happens that woke mine up beyond what it already was. I used to Cloyes True Roller timing chain set and just Advance the cam timing at the crank 4°. That made that thing come more alive out of the hole.

Man, these big block builds that spin to 7K must be the best on the street. Not too crazy in the torque department, so you shouldn’t spin off the line if you’re suspension is dialed and you’re running a decent size tire. And you’ll just keep pulling all the way to 7,000. This would be an awesome engine in a street car. I had a 468 big block once in a 1970 el Camino and a friend with a pretty wild 347 engine in a 68 mustang would always pull away from me in a race. He just made power up high really well and my motor was all torque. Made me want to build a big block that spun like a small block. Best of both worlds

Think I would have made it 11.5:1 compression. Aluminum heads drop the compression ration almost a full point and fuel injection timing helps compensate for detonation issues.

The Super Sniper will handle up to 1500 hp, but building a N/A BBC that MAKES 1500 hp is not so easy, or cheap. What I would like to see is a 496 set up for a top of the line Brodix SR20 or Brodix BRX(same thing) head or AFR Magnum 18 degree and see how it compares. These heads are quite expensive, so let's rock your Dyno!

It was thought that the needle rollers were not sufficient to withstand the concentrated load bearing, and a bushed wheel was deemed more durable. Bearings were failing - loosening up and winding up in the oilpan or worse! Anyone else hear of this?

depends to me, id take streetability with a slightly "mild" tune vs something a bit more ideal for the pure drag strip use...also that build would be gutted/tubbed etc...id consider a slight sacrifice to torque even peak torque...to possibly bring the power numbers lower into the RPM range. But an outright classic/heavier car, im more or less happy with sacrifices to peak power/power range so long as torque is 'streetable' or a more or less fun/streetable type tune. To me it mostly comes down to end user preference, be it drag strip/auto/rear gears, or manual owners that are tuning more for the rpm/torque range they expect to maximize their fun in.

Not sure how good a hood scoop will look on a pump gas muscle car, but the horsepower output of the engine is not too shabby 👍

all the reason you labeled are the reasons people dont run solid lifters. So it IS true. 10 minutes to lash but how much time do you spend getting to them and putting stuff back on. No one on a weekend warrior want to ajust lash. Second, hyd rollers are capible of 7k rpm.

I don’t think I would have built that block for any kind of power like they making. The block is cracked… you can see it when the silicone is going back on for the pan at 8:07

Can I have one for my 1989 GMC 4x4? I'll swap out the 350 and the little 5 speed manual transmission with the big block and an Eaton 6 speed manual transmission.

Im wondering if you requested that cam with a 110 LSA? I'm running an almost identical Comp. in a 501 (4.6B/3.766S) Dart BBC with Dart 345 Pro1 heads in my race boat. But I'm running custom RaceTech pistons that with a 48cc dome for a 13.2:1 CR. I made just short of 800hp and over 600 fllbs from 2800 to 7400. But my cam card showed 108 LSA. I'm running a Edelbrock 454R manifold.

I love it but it only made 90 hp more then my hydraulic roller 427 at 800 more rpm I thought it would have made 800+hp
