I have no clue how phenomenally person is your sister she did read lips across the room! This is the hardest language I had to learn. I want to say big thank you Mr Valenta you are so lovely man and wearing sunglasses is very good idea helps me focus more. God bless you forever.
I realised recently that I didn’t pick up any lip reading ability through conversation in school due to covid and now need to learn how to do it simply so I can understand people better in loud rooms rather than constantly say ‘sorry’ or ‘pardon’
Nice introduction to speechreading. I like how the sound is muted to force me to read the lips instead of simply relying on the audio. Repeating the practice after the answer has been given reinforces the practice.
I watched several other videos before I found yours. Yours is by far the best, thank you! I'm not deaf but I have a lot of trouble understanding what I hear. I was tested and they found that I can't hear the beginning and ending of words. It's an audio nightmare. No, it's usually funny, but only for me. I once asked a preacher if he really said he was pregnant with a freezer? It's interesting and often funny but not helpful or entertaining to others. I have been lip reading, sort of, all my life. I wasn't aware until Mom said she noticed that I was doing it. In other words, if I can't see your lips - I don't know what you said. But I want to be able to do it intentionally. And more successfully. I was tickled pink to find that I could make out what you were saying pretty easily in the beginning, then it got harder. I'm saving this video for practice and looking forward to future videos! Thanks also for the closed captioning! I depend on it a lot. Happy New Year and God bless you! ❤
Cannot wait to watch more of your videos. Bless you. Keep up your wonderful work keeping us connected to our world. Especially when we are beginning to feel very distant . Others get frustrated and give up repeating and we begin to just not communicate, join in the conversation or try to pretend. Thanks for the time you spend doing this.
My aunt is non-verbal due to MS and being on a breathing machine. I really want to learn how to lip read so I can communicate with her. She's all there mentally but physically her body is incapable of even speaking or lifting a finger. She can only move her lips and eyebrows. Thanks for this video.
Thank you for this wonderful training video!!! I was just bored and wanted to see if i could pick up lip reading , but holy crap it is HARD!!! That said the way you presented and tought it to us was incredibly intuitive and i really appreciate you taking the time to make this video!!! You make learning fun!
I desperately need to learn to lip read! I went deaf in one ear years ago, I relied on my left ear massively, as I could not get along with my hearing aid, due to the tinnitus. Six weeks ago, overnight I lost at least 50% of my hearing in my good ear, which is slowly declining further. Music sounds appalling, everything is out of tune, peoples’ voiced sound different, my cats’ miaows aren’t miaows anymore, and when my beagle barks it sounds like an explosion in my head. Needless to say, I am desperate! People around me loose patience because I have to ask them to repeat what they said several times, I could bawl when someone gives me a phone to have a conversation, because I can’t hear them on the other end, and because of this I am becoming isolated - today I feel like the loneliest woman in the world😞
I have a similar problem. I went deaf overnight in one ear 7 years ago. And two years ago I started having problems with the other ear. Similar to you. Voices sound robotic, music sounds out of tune and ears are full of loud pressure. But, after 4 months it passed and my hearing went back to normal in my good ear. It started happening again mid December, but this time I'm a lot calmer because I'm sure it's temporary again. I think you're about three months in now, and if the weather is wet and cold that doesn't help. Hang on in there. Hopefully it will lift. FYI, I was diagnosed with Meniere's.
I hope it all works out for you! It's very nice that you are going out of your way to address the issue instead of expecting other to conform. And since there will be those mindful of your circumstances, it will be even easier to understand them if you meet them halfway! Keep it up, really hope it is working!
Thanks for the introduction mister, Im trying to practice lip reading to properly hear my teacher's discussions, i found out that Tagalog is very easy to lip rid because it consist of many vowels
Thank you. I enjoyed watching you and realized how good I have become as I am losing hearing due to: illness and vehicle accidents. Now I am older and there is that. I hear but do not translate what I hear and the ringing and roaring I do hear are only exasperated eith Hearing aids.
I used to think my lip syncing was bad because my brother used to lip sync stuff to me and I wouldn't get it. I'm understanding most of this lesson I think my brothers just the problem.
Thanks for the note: George Valenta is 89 years old. It's been 4 years since Introduction to Lip Reading, but we have "Basic Lip Reading 2" ready to publish. Note: For those of you who like Valenta's training, watch for the Lip Reading campaign on Go Fund Me or Patreon. This would allow UEF to produce a Beginners through Advanced Lip Reading series in a short time frame, while Mr. Valenta is available to teach. We are all volunteers here at UEF including Mr. Valenta. Best + Cheers! -UEF Editor
Don't give up. Stay with it even if you feel it's not coming. All of a. Sudden it will all hit you at once at then it will flow like you h as be done it your whole life. Honest an epiphany moment.
Very educational but significant fundemental sociocultural grammatical and geographical issues for a Russo-Australian 😂 This is the way of the world 🌎 haha, your lesson has been invaluable however. I manage to catch on quite well. Is that also a soft humming an appliance in the back ground? Спасибо большое, thank you very much
