- Can you read someone’s mind by looking at them? Almost. Lynne Franklin teaches you how to connect with 3 types of people by understanding how their bodies communicate. After a boy threatened to kill her with a machete, Lynne Franklin decided to learn everything she could about persuasion. She became a neuroscience nerd, studying how the brain works and how to build rapport with people. She has since worked with organizations to use persuasive communication to increase their performance, productivity, and profit, and published a book about her personal research called Getting Others to Do What You Want. In addition to her marketing and consulting work, Lynne is a member of the National Speakers Association and President-elect of its Illinois chapter. It's amazing she's so confident in what she's presenting and has NO EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE to support it...sounds like a million dollar idea.
LOOKER
Based on this if I end my emails as the following I can't go wrong:
Am I the only one who can see the memory in images as well as feel all the emotions I felt there ?
1. Lookers 75%
I'm a listener, a listener who learned to give eye contact
Reading people is a perception of your own understanding. The more understanding you are of yourself, the more understanding you are of everything else. Only to the point that it raises your understanding to understand what it hasn’t yet. At no time when reading people, are they stuck being what you’re thinking. That’s all you, being your perception.
I am convinced this is a fundamental starting point, a springboard into deeper connections, a way to build bridges between types.
When I tried to remember an important memory, I remembered it in all three ways. I remembered it like a movie, I remembered what had been said, and how I felt.
During conversations I always felt uncomfortable to keep eye contact, and hence thought that something is wrong with me. Now I know I'm a listener, and I understand the reasons behind everyday small conflicts I tend to have. Very informative lecture, thank you!
This is trying to classify all people in just three extremely distinct categories. It the reality (imo) is that you’re an hybrid of these types, which means that there are MANY more types.
The best teachers incorporate all three communication preferences into their lessons. Teacher teaching programs do give direct instruction on these skills. I like the style observation tips. Super useful for those in the field of education.
After watching this video I started to watch random ted talks, and try to find out who is a listener, a toucher and a looker, and I found out a cool thing: the listener moves his head side to side - so his hearing range grows bigger. The looker takes his body back and up- so his view field grows wider, and the toucher do the opposite things- he takes his body down and front so there is a better chance to touch
I know a bunch of people who become touchers as soon as they get drunk enough.
This makes so much sense! I'm able to understand myself better, but also, I'm able to read others and its hopefully going to make future conversations much easier and effective.
I'm all three, but I was not raised in this particular culture/country. So for me it is interesting that you separate these three. It is so interesting and I'm excited to analyze my communication, and that of others. Thank you!
I'm visual but eye contact doesn't work well with social anxiety
They mumble to themselves.
my first ever ted talk video where I was not concerned about how much time is left to end the video...
Thank You for sharing this video. May God Bless Lynne Franklin. She sounded perfect regarding her body language talk, based on my practical experience in my life that I have gone through so far. Anthony from Santacruz, Mumbai, India.
