I bought the 12700 and I will say that in hindsight, I should have spent a bit more to go for the 12700k, because my chip is running hot and there's not much I can do other than drop wattage. But the k-series cpu have the core voltage unlocked, which by default is way too high because intel has been aggressive with voltage for 12th gen for stability. Even reducing 100mv can result in reduction in power usage and temperatures without losing any performance. And for those who would say, just reduce the turbo boost wattage, it's not the same thing and you need both unlocked if you want to tune your machine as best as possible.

I already bought my 12600k but I'm thinking about not using it and getting the 12700... it will cost me 25% more to have 2 more cores... I'm wondering if it's worth it because for the premiere I'll only get 8% more than performance paying 25% more but the 12700 consumes less energy. I'm worried because it seems to me that some motherboards use PL2 only a few seconds later the clock is reduced in the case of the 12700.. it seems to me that in the 12600K this doesn't happen. 12700 has the advantage that it comes with the cooler even if it's not the best.

Hey, in the bios it's better to set the "long duration package power" to whatever power limit you want instead of adjusting the boost time limit. If you set long duration package power to 180W that's basically like if you set an unlimited boost time limit.
It can with motherboards that support it. Technically not an overclock so non k chips will see an increase in power draw. How much depends on how the thermals are managed
@@theTechNotice most motherboards have this option for the non-K CPUs, even those that cost 120$(they throttle if you enable it though because their VRMs are bad). This isn't overclocking, you're only setting max power which the CPU can draw if it needs to.
The max my 12400 can handle is 3080. Anything stronger than that gpu and drops and stuttering happens, I know, because I have a 4070ti and the CPU works way smoother with the 3080,4070ti is a less vram/cooler/better dlss version of 3090,which is why I bought this monster cpu
@smokegames1179 only if you upgrade the CPU I don't even suggest getting a 12400 for gaming. With newer demanding games/unoptimized games even from years ago, those extra cores missing to push a card just don't make sense to get the CPU unless you're on a budget, and if you want to game at higher fps, it' just makes sense to get a stronger CPU to keep a GPU longer. Turning the settings down doesn't help with stutters or drops with a 12400 with monsters cards stronger than 4070 because it's lacking extra cores. I suggest getting what I got today in the mail a 12700 or stronger
@@cmoneytheman imis read gonna buy the 12700 but the mobo is H610 got no choice since i just swapped my rig for it and gonna pair a 4070 super would it be alright to keep this mobo for couple of months with 12700 and 4070?
@smokegames1179 The only time you need to upgrade a board is if you want more ram slots/m.2/want more sata spots/need to OC, which there's been no real need to OC for years now. ddr5 ram As I said I'm coming from a 12400 going to a 12700,the 13th/14 are a no good since they have a permanent crash problem
Sir i am watching from India. I am see leaks about rtx 4000 series. Rtx 4060 will have ray tracing performance equal to 3090. Above 4060 performance bump up will be madness
True, the only downside! I just tried to undervolt my 12600k, i still have the same benchmark result but i have a peak oh 92w of power consumption in every heavy task, like rendring etc, now that is efficency
Regarding the benchmarks comparisons between 12600k overclocked and 12700stock. The numbers I am getting on 12600k are much higher R23 multi - 19780(low 18 k in your video) single core 1980(much higher than 1900 score on 12700 on your test.). Now you are testing with expensive motherboard and cooler, so I am guessing if you cheap out on both the difference between i5oc and i7 stock will be minimal. Now if you are spending all this money on cooler and mb anyway, you might as well by the K CPU. 12600K oc if you are on budget will give much better performance on single core(gaming) and be very close to multicore score to 12700 stock. Or if you want more performance get 12700k which overclocked will give you nearly 24K against 22K in stock. You are getting at least 10% from overclocking which is very sizable. Finally if one want so save money .get 12700 and cheap cooler and checp mb and it will run pretty much at 12600k OC level.

Does anyone know if toughair 510 would be enough for i7 12700?
Overclocking is super simple, just set it to multi core enhancement then max performance which adds 1 ghz to the max turbo and locks it in to all P cores. Then set the E cores to +2ghz and youre done. Super simple.
It's nightmare for some people
Hi, great video. I really enjoy watching your content.
It would be interesting to compare the 12700 to the 12700K because it has a higher TDP. I myself have a i7-12700K on a z690 cooled by Arctic Freezer eSports DUO. If you are interested I could perform some tests and compare the results.
very good idea!
I've got the 12700k coming in just takes time to run all those benchmarks :)
What's the temps like on AF eSports Duo on like Cinebench R23?
@@theTechNotice Hi, I've run the tests, Cinebench R23 gives me a score of 22648. The average package tempearute is 90 degress, however this comes from just few cores, while the rest manage to maintain 70-80 degress. The maximum recorded was 94 degress with maximum power draw of 214 watts. The CPU is inside a Fractal Design Meshify C case with 3 intake fans, one top and one rear for exaust. If you're further interest I could send some screenshots.
@@mario_stoynov Kinda useless info without fan speeds and ambient temp
Can you recommend good budget motherboard around $200
I'm a video editor, I bought this cpu 12700K, thinking I won't need a GPU because of the iGPU.
I have a 1060 GPU, is it even worth putting it in my system? or just run off the iGPU?
Yes, of course it is! Use it.
@@theTechNotice Thanks, it was not that obvious to me. The 160 is so smaii compared to all the successors. I thought it might be like installing an 8 track player in my car. lol
What do you think about 12900 (non-K) vs 12700K? It's so tempting.
12900 if you're on the z690 motherboard
@@theTechNotice Oh... I'm considering a B660 :D
12700k or i5 13600k? for PP ?
What is the deferent between 12700k vs 12700 ?!! Please tell me 😩
12700 has a long term power limit of 65W TDP. 12700k much higher ;)
please do a 12700K on b660, as I don't need OC and tones of PCI-E lanes, if a B660 can run 190W 12700K forever.
YES, it can. Just go for b660 then, I've got a 12900k running 240w on B660i :)
My best buy so far, got it for 140$, and 19$ for h610m mobo. No regrets
Thank god i found you
Bought and paid for a 12600k. Got sent a 12700 by mistake. Wanted to overclocked. But I got lucky and paid $265 for a 12700. So definitely worth it for me. Even if I’m just gaming
Is a 240 msi aio enough?
12700 it is, thank you
A vid on Without dgpu video editing performance test 12700 vs 12700k vs 12600k.
They all have the same iGPU so the difference is only in CPU performance.
@@theTechNotice sir they have difference in execution units which effects gpu performance.
Hey, in the bios it's better to set the "long duration package power" to whatever power limit you want instead of adjusting the boost time limit.
If you set long duration package power to 180W that's basically like if you set an unlimited boost time limit.
I'm not sure you can do that with the 'non k' chips. 🤔 Since it's 'not overclockable' by default that's what differentiates it from the 'k' variant.
This isn't overclocking, you're only setting max power which the CPU can draw if it needs to.
review 12700f pls since i'm planning to buy it
...thats the same CPU without an iGPU.
25% faster in DaVinci for i9 vs i7, the i9 for me is the way to go, along with an NVidia 3080.
How bout 4070super thats what im getting like 25% better than 3080 sorry gonna buy a 12700
@smokegames1179 only if you upgrade the CPU I don't even suggest getting a 12400 for gaming.
@smokegames1179 The only time you need to upgrade a board is if you want more ram slots/m.2/want more sata spots/need to OC, which there's been no real need to OC for years now. ddr5 ram
As I said I'm coming from a 12400 going to a 12700,the 13th/14 are a no good since they have a permanent crash problem

I9 12900 non K sir
