Awesome Video! I being a creator edit a lot of videos and I'm looking into upgrading my PC , I almost was gonna go for an i5 12600KF which was a lot cheaper than the K variant but something told me to research whether it was a good decision. Turns out that the iGPU really is really important. Thank you so much for uploading this video! Wish you good luck man!
They wanted to sell me a build with model F, but with a little research I bought model K, since I was not going to buy a video card yet. For an integrated one, it performs very well, plus I usually encode videos with HandBrake, and with the igpu better results are obtained.
the main reason for always get an igpu processor is suppose you've got your GPU toasted and you don't have the money to buy a new one so temporarily you can use your pc without any gpu it's always smart to buy a cpu with igpu
This made a huge impact!! I saw some video saying I should deactivate my internal GPU so that my RTX 4090 would get all the work load. A load of nonsence it now turns out. My big project went from rendering in H265 in 1 hour 46 min, down to only 22!! minutes when enabeling the integrated 630 gpu. Both worked hard, more memory was used(I have 64gb) and the load on my CPU was reduced. Thanks alot mate!!!

Because I work as a photographer I have my dual monitor setup & everthing configured to work on my old build I have not yet completely moved over due to having to calibrate screens, etc... I have been using Task manager to monitor Gpu usage etc while working, ( Workflow Bridge - ACR - Photoshop.) So one day I am using ACR & realize my Igpu is shooting up & down from 100% & my 1660 is doing like 1 -10 % hardly anything but in Photoshop was mostly 1660. So I checked & in Photoshop my 1660 was activated but in ACR only the igpu & I could not change it. Then I realized I forgot to plug the monitors back into the 1660 so they were connected through the mother board. I did not realize Photoshop could use the GPU 1660 when connected through the motherboard, and then why does Camera raw not? Just makes me wonder with Davinci Resolve & Premiere what difference it would make connecting through the mother board or GPU?
Photoshop was using your GPU coz it's programmed to use NVidia GPUs if they're installed and Drivers are up to date and then your iGPU was running the monitors. Generally I'd recommend running your monitors through the dGPU. ACR most likely can't utilize NVidia GPUs, but I'm not sure how they've programmed it. :)

I agree. I have ryzen 5 3600 and getting some problem with the gpu. I can't use it. I have my old backup i7 6700 (my old pc) that have i gpu. Yeah not for game but when i need for something like excel i can use it. Omg it helps a lot with my work at that time.

I went from 32G to 64G of ram and the system is very smooth, plus it added a few more years of life to this 4yr old system.
Oh, you are right!! All gpu reviewers talk about 1.gaming 2. rendering time, and no one about timeline performance. I personally waited for 11 gen intel cpu to use this iGPU quicksynk decoder for my h.265 10 bit 4:2:2 footage, and I have better timline smoothness with h.265 than h.264 now

Yes, same question. I'm thinking about a build with either i5-12500 or Ryzen 5600G. With either option, I won't be using a graphics card. From what I can tell, the 5600G would be better for gaming, but I don't know how they compare for video editing.

I was not aware they could work in tandem, especially after reading so much that the iGPU disables itself when a dedicated GPU is installed. Anyway, if they can work in tandem, from my experience I've seen many compatibility issues when trying to run a Hybrid GPU system, including many content creation and engineering titles. Also, why do so many video editing programs have options to enable various encoding, etc via the GPU if that wasn't a good option. Having said this, Ive revised my order and are now getting the K version.
So, have you tried to use igpu and gpu in tandem in davinci resolve? Is there any difference between using them together and using only gpu for video editing?
Hey guys, i m trying to learn davinci resolve, and my igpu for export Does not works. Gpu works unter 20-30% during exporting. How can to make igpu to work?
Thank you for all this information. I recently bought a CPU with igpu because of you. It's Super. I usually keep the CPU side cover open to cool down the system even though it has four fans. Can you tell whether it's better to keep it open or close in order to keep the CPU cooler. Thank you in advance.
BIG thanks - i asked in community about my new pc setup and someon comes up the iGPU in an Intel vs my selections of a Ryzen7 7800x3D...now i know whats going on...cheers*
99% of videos benchmarks on internet are useless. what the guy above tell in the video (Hi, Sorry , i don't know your name) is right, it's the first time I see someone telling it on youtube. It's very difficult to find information on iGpu or finding real use performance on professional software (even running on graphic card) like Video editor, Audio Editor (DAW), 3D etc... is cinebench is interesting to use as "benchmark" ? not at all, and i have a Red Giant / Maxon Licence ! I'm video editing my videos in Vegas Pro 19, and i use my iGpu (i7-7700 + intel Graphics HD 630) instead of my 1050ti Nvidia graphic card which is more powerful than the iGpu ! it's the 630 that i use in Vegas Pro. why ? Stability, much better quality picture once rendering the video too. When running the software on the Nvidia, i can get 20 crashes per day with it. With the iGpu, less, and sometimes completly crash free (when we know why it's crashing, in the past it was worst with previous version of Vegas pro). There are other examples. But here both card are running together. some plugins are Gpu CUDA accelerated like the Neat Denoise video plugin, but the video editor run on the iGpu engine. Most benchmarks are done here and there for gamers, but not everybody does gaming with a computer. I don't do game with it, i'm doing video, Ai picture/video processing, and Music composing ! Benchmarks are most of the time absolutly not a real case scenario, but extreme performance tests to see which one are the best once put at 100%. most of the time it's not working like that. In a video editor, 50% of the time, will be spend in Idle, or very cpu use, and then, graphics card will be used. on Topaz Video / Picture products, Gpu is not used 100%, so we see often people complaining that their video card is not running very fast "and i bought a 3090"... the best thing to do was to come on the community forum and ask how such a card is running with such software. I never had any issue by running my computer with both Gpu + iGpu running at the same time.
I am a power user and have made this mistake due to being old school cause it wasnt posssible back in the day to run iGPU and dGPU at the same time. This is wild, I'm turning on my iGPU now, maybe it'll help when I am putting on a show or movie for family while I game.
first of all thank you for these videos they really do help a lot , i need some help i have to decide wich cpu should i buy i have the choice between i5 13500 , 12600k and 13600kf the 2 first almost at the same price and the 3rd one slightly more expensive , i mainly use davinci resolve for editing so please tell what is the best choice here ty so much !!
Very interesting video!! Thank you for your time, but i feel the need to repeat the question posted by Nathan Wells (few hours ago): ''Also genuine question about the iGPU I know you are explaining more with editing but can it also help out in streaming as well?'' It would be nice to know if enabling both GPUs will give us smoother and better result on streaming.
I've been wondering if the igpu still boosts rendering even if the only video cable plugged on the pc is for the discrete gpu, or do we have to also plug a cable on the motherboard too with an other screen ?
Spot on. 👍🍕🍺. With my 12700k and z690 mb and 3 Gen 4 m.2s my limitation is rendering w my older gtx1070. Question does 64gb over 32 make a difference? (And speed?)
As far as I know speed does not make a huge difference. DDR4 3200 and 3600 will be pretty similar in perf. Capacity limitations can definitely slow you down, just check how much ram you are using while working and see if you might need an upgrade. But if you have 32gb at 2666 (example), I don't think it is worth it to go with faster ram, just add other 32gb at the same speed if you need them
Igpu is worth it. There are many benefits, having additional display options, also the video output can be calibrated easily, if gpu fails atleast you can troubleshoot with igpu running the system, etc.
Really glad i saw this video because i am going to build a 12th gen intel system with the IGPu.. But really wished you had used actual 4k footage and tested the actual time in minutes with and without the IGPu vs Nvenc so i would of get an idea of how faster the IGPu is. But thanks again for the information.
I couldn't agree more. In fact, I can edit 4K H264 10 bit 4:2:2 on a laptop with 7th Gen Intel 7700K (HQ) and Nvidia Quadro M1200 mainly because the two GPUs work together.
@@derJackistweg Long story short, I select "Intel Quick Sync" as encoder when exporting from Davinci Resolve (works with H.264 and H.265). Task Manager shows 100% utilisation on the integrated HD Graphics 630, and 50%+ on the Nvidia Quadro, depending on the grading.
Not sure where you got the price margins of only $10. In my case, locally, the price difference is about 50-60$ between the K and KF variant. Sure, it's worth it if you're a creator and use video encoding a lot, as you said. But I think for most people who won't be using it for that, the increase in price is not insignificant.
Here's the real question. What about in things like Blender or Keyshot where you're rendering a scene with a 3d model and other 3d assets you've created? Are you using the encoder/decoder then? I googled around briefly and it doesn't seem so?
So all you do is just enable it? Believe mine is already enabled. My question is if one is running dual monitors, should one of the monitors be connected to the IGPU? I’m currently using a low budget monitor that’s only 60hz, a 240hz and they’re both connected to the DGPU. Thanks 😊
The benefits of iGPU for desktop can be power saving. Though do you have an idea how much is the power draw of the GPU when the igpu is in use for browsing/idle ? I can not find much information about it. I do not want the dedicated gpu remains idle taking 15W if it can just be "plugged" and in Standby (2-4 watts). This would allow big savings since most power consumption in on idle, making intel cpu better than AMD finally.
what about a AMD Ryzen 7 5700G. 8 core 16 thread cpu with built in vega IGPU.....will it be a good choice for creators as well in combination with a RTX card?
Hardware acceleration is key and an very OLD topic: I remember when HD VIDEO PLAYBACK was an issue!!! Yes, there was a time.... on Athlon 64. Since some years it's hardware accelerated and no issue @all. Is people do not understand that, they should not call themselves a tester.
Lol Cyberpunk isn't capable of more fps unless you kill the quality settings, and that hasn't changed in a year. Turn off RTX turn off High quality shadows, turn down pedestrian fill level, put up with hitches and glitches everywhere because that's the game with your CPU and GPU combo. CP is terribly poorly optimised if at all, and that means it will never perform well on todays hardware unless you nerf the settings.
I did configure my recent i(-10850 w/ Strix RTX-2080-Ti. I like it. How can I confirm if it uses iGPU primarily in non intensive desktop work but kicks in RTX as needed. My Mac Pro does this to reduce heat & energy.
Good video but you need more camera angles. TLDR, intel iGPU encoders/decoders have some advantages over NVENC... might be useful if you do video work.
Is using 12th gen iGPU enough to run OBS without the dedicated GPU losing performance? because I currently using my 3070 with 3700x and there is some lose in performance in game somehow
completely disagree. 50 bucks is alot of money to people. never used encoding software in my life, and always disabled the igpu in past K versions. not to mention the 12700 and 12700f runs cooler than the K versions.
Let's say i want to do game streaming and some video editing. But the only option i have is i5 12600k or i7 12700F. Which one should i pick, which one has better performance and less stutter while streaming/recording a game?
Testing with ffmpeg and vmaf, NVENC has been better and faster than quicksync for a long time. Not sure that quicksync is a “better encoder” but it is definitely good if it can also be utilized on top of your dGPU
If I have a powerful GPU then would there be any advantage between having the 770 iGpu vs the 730 iGpu? Since I would be getting the encoding and decoding advantage on both, would there be a greater advantage in the 770 iGpu while also using a dedicated GPU (like 3060 or 3070) ? Please someone guide me because I need to determine what CPU I need to go in for accordingly (on a budget). Thks
what games are those? those games either have a bug, or old enough to run on iGPU (and doesn't have GPU auto-selection). Never experienced such a thing for years.
i have purchased 6500xt which don't have hw encoding, so i will buy a i3 12100 or i5 12400 with intel uhd 730, but can i use intel uhd 730 with rx 6500xt on a same time and with a single monitor? if it possible then can anyone tell me how..
I do wish I had known this before upgrading my 5600X to a 5900X, especially since I bought it for $650 just before it plummeted in price to $150 less. I should have gone for the 5700G and saved about $250. In your opinion, is the 5700G the best AMD Zen 3 5000-series CPU with IGPU?
Nice! thanks for the information! But the same happens with the Ryzen APU? Bc I want to update my Ryzen 5 3600x for Ryzen 7 5700x but the Ryzen 7 5700g its more cheaper then Ryzen 7 5700x Soo idk if its worth it bc the different of price its like 40$
if you do it for gaming when running twitch, cam chat, netflix or something else on the secondary monitor with the dedicated gpu for the main monitor and the igpu for the 1920x1080 secondary monitor, how would the diffrence be compared to only using the dedicated gpu for both monitors ?
i use that kind of stuff back in ivybridge and skylake i got better framerate when gaming, it reduce gpu usage on primary card, but i need to enable it on bios and plug secondary display on mobo.
In long form Premiere Pro edit with multiple dynamic linked after effects composition is H265 IGPU accelerated going to give better results than H264 ALL-I (which is NOT accelerated) ?
just think about like this: you have two works one is heavy and one is light what should you do? Wise person will deploy two persons with variable capabilities and distribute the work accordingly like simple work to less experienced man and heavy work to more experienced man rather than give whole to a experienced man. It saves time remarkably. Whatever might be the powerful graphics card is if they have to handle two completely different works at the same time performance bound to drop. That is funda.
Also: Why not get the CPU with the iGPU anyway? If your GPU has issues, you need to use it elsewhere temporarily (troubleshoot another PC or whatever) then the PC with the CPU with iGPU will still work! 😀🤷🏽♂️

Rysen 7 7700
Excellent infos. Any benchmark on 12100 with igpu? Want to know how much weaker it is than the 12400
Hey guys, i m trying to learn davinci resolve, and my igpu for export Does not works. Gpu works unter 20-30% during exporting. How can to make igpu to work?
Is you are using the free version then it only uses cpu
Getting my 14900k + RTX 4090 for my channel this week!!! ,...awesome tip!
Extremely helpful video. Thank you.
Nice to have your channel to focus on content creation, than just gaming.
this is very helpful, thanks.
I have a one pc setup so my gameplay is viewed from the NVEC while the stream is being encoded by the Intel iGPU. It's great.
first of all thank you for these videos they really do help a lot , i need some help i have to decide wich cpu should i buy i have the choice between i5 13500 , 12600k and 13600kf the 2 first almost at the same price and the 3rd one slightly more expensive , i mainly use davinci resolve for editing so please tell what is the best choice here ty so much !!
Go for i7-14700k
Ultimate knowledge..👌🏻
What I want to know here is: What about the people on red team (AMD)'s side?
Is it also worth it for us to have the iGPU?
No you lost a lot of L3 cache and Amd APU has no encoder support.
Nope, the iGPu works without you plugging a cable to the motherboard. :)
@@theTechNotice thx you very much.
Thank you for the your helpful suggestions
3:00 i disagree with the reasoning on why large youtubers disable the igpu its for easier showing the gpus only performance
But if it's disabled on a CPU review benchmark? 🤔
What model of PC case can we see in 7:11 ?
Spot on.
There are many benefits, having additional display options, also the video output can be calibrated easily, if gpu fails atleast you can troubleshoot with igpu running the system, etc.
exactly, great job, I finally did this.
Intel quick sync is NOT supported on 7th gen according to this sheet (which is probably correct)
so on your machine it makes no difference.
I've seen instances where the K GPU is *cheaper* than the F variant. Which is bizarre to pass-up to me especially with what you note.
F variants usually are a bit slower without boost mode and with boost mode.
Here's the real question. What about in things like Blender or Keyshot where you're rendering a scene with a 3d model and other 3d assets you've created? Are you using the encoder/decoder then? I googled around briefly and it doesn't seem so?
Nope you wouldn't use ut then, since you're not playing back video. :)
People dont realize the fact benchmarks DOES NOT EQUAL user experience .....
So all you do is just enable it? Believe mine is already enabled. My question is if one is running dual monitors, should one of the monitors be connected to the IGPU? I’m currently using a low budget monitor that’s only 60hz, a 240hz and they’re both connected to the DGPU. Thanks 😊
I would be interested in seeing a video on various ways to do hardware AV1 encoding aside from buy a 4090.
very appreciative 💙
That works for gaming??
Hardware acceleration is key and an very OLD topic:
I remember when HD VIDEO PLAYBACK was an issue!!! Yes, there was a time....
on Athlon 64.
Since some years it's hardware accelerated and no issue @all.
Is people do not understand that, they should not call themselves a tester.
More fps? Im playing cyberpunk 12100f x 3060ti
I'm starting to highend graphic cards as overared bulky tech all I here is people want 4k and butter smooth graphic but it makes your tech heavier
You wanna run NVENC if you're recording/streaming from OBS.
damn, build looks sick. what case is it?
completely disagree.
I5 12600 K is a beast and the one with the highest single core score.
Testing with ffmpeg and vmaf, NVENC has been better and faster than quicksync for a long time.
Not sure that quicksync is a “better encoder” but it is definitely good if it can also be utilized on top of your dGPU
Can i equalize the missing Decoders from a „RX 6500 XT“ GPU with a Intel 12gen Series CPU? For example the i3 12100 has all the new En/Decoders…
yes.
@@theTechNotice thx for the fast answer! 👍🏻
Thks
Yeah uhd 770 would be better! :)
For gaming disabling igpu is better otherwise games have trouble choosing the right graphics card sometimes can also cause some games to not launch
*some games
True
what games are those? those games either have a bug, or old enough to run on iGPU (and doesn't have GPU auto-selection). Never experienced such a thing for years.
i have purchased 6500xt which don't have hw encoding, so i will buy a i3 12100 or i5 12400 with intel uhd 730, but can i use intel uhd 730 with rx 6500xt on a same time and with a single monitor? if it possible then can anyone tell me how..
how does it compare to apple silicon encoders?
I do wish I had known this before upgrading my 5600X to a 5900X, especially since I bought it for $650 just before it plummeted in price to $150 less. I should have gone for the 5700G and saved about $250. In your opinion, is the 5700G the best AMD Zen 3 5000-series CPU with IGPU?
AMD Ryzen™ 9 5900HX , 8 Cores/16 Threads
(Total L2 Cache 4MB , Total L3 Cache 16MB , Base Clock 3.3 GHz , up to 4.6 GHz)
GPU AMD Vega 8 Radeon™ Graphics (Graphics Frequency 2100 MHz)
@@lunatik9696 Thanks for mentioning this. However, I am looking for the latest Ryzen APU for desktop PCs and the 5900HX is for mobile platforms.
@@Aaron_Lesse nah it's not worth losing over half your cache.
nope, AMD igpu doesn't have quicksync.
Gee, I get it now! Thanks!
If IGP's are that good then why are top of the line Xeon or Threadripper workstation CPU don't have them?
Nice! thanks for the information! But the same happens with the Ryzen APU? Bc I want to update my Ryzen 5 3600x for Ryzen 7 5700x but the Ryzen 7 5700g its more cheaper then Ryzen 7 5700x Soo idk if its worth it bc the different of price its like 40$
Very cool :) So how do I enable the IGPU in different app, I use mostly Adobe ...
Can there be any real world performance increases with an intel arc gpu?
if you do it for gaming when running twitch, cam chat, netflix or something else on the secondary monitor with the dedicated gpu for the main monitor and the igpu for the 1920x1080 secondary monitor, how would the diffrence be compared to only using the dedicated gpu for both monitors ?
i use that kind of stuff back in ivybridge and skylake
i got better framerate when gaming, it reduce gpu usage on primary card, but i need to enable it on bios and plug secondary display on mobo.
Why was the effects score lower?
Is there any real disadvantage of having it enabled? Why is the default in the bios to have it turned off?
i was thinking off buying an intel A770 to help my rtx3000.......can you make a video with PROs and CONs of that configuration.
Does the benefits apply for AMD full line of APUs too?
Can you get similar results with the radeon intergrated graphics in 7950x?
cant find that build you speak about in this video with the 3090 and all black out case
Haha, people keep asking about it, but it took abit longer to edit, so coming out next week ;)
it's good for gaming?
In long form Premiere Pro edit with multiple dynamic linked after effects composition is H265 IGPU accelerated going to give better results than H264 ALL-I (which is NOT accelerated) ?
Great info... I am a live streamer and this u for helped a lot...
just think about like this: you have two works one is heavy and one is light what should you do? Wise person will deploy two persons with variable capabilities and distribute the work accordingly like simple work to less experienced man and heavy work to more experienced man rather than give whole to a experienced man. It saves time remarkably. Whatever might be the powerful graphics card is if they have to handle two completely different works at the same time performance bound to drop. That is funda.
