Good morning! I am SO glad that you stopped in! Please! LIKE this video and leave me a comment (or two or three!)! Here is a little story about a Stihl MS260 chainsaw that the owner couldn't get started! I hope you enjoy! I am out chasing down Facebook Marketplace saws and we are going to investigate: What did I just buy off of Marketplace! Oh Boy! I hope you enjoy and please don't forgot to hit that like button right up there! My last video had the most "likes" you guys have ever given me! I am down in the comment section right now looking for you! THANK YOU!! See you again soon!
Hi Erica. Great video, as usual. The $117.00 price is more than fair for all you did. I live in North Carolina and my local Stihl dealer has an hourly shop rate of $175.00. I owned a landscape company for several years and had to learn to do most of the maintenance myself. The folks around you don't know how lucky they are to have you. Thanks for all the videos!!
I know I’ve said this before but it does make me smile , your sarcasm n little comedy bits are executed so well that we would make you an honorary Aussie if you visited us👍
Our closest so-called full service Stihl dealer had a shop rate of $90/hr a few years ago when they opened. When Hurricane Helene hit here they raised it to $130 /hr. I say so-called because they stock no parts. If they have a need they order it from Atlanta and usually have it next day, but even the simplest thing costs an extra day. Most of the Stihl dealers around here are Ace hardware stores, and this seems to be their business model. There are a few others around that have a few parts, but you can forget a carb kit. The old days of the Mom and Pop shops that were around are gone, died off or retired and the crackhead kids didnt have enough sense to stay in business. I dont know how much of a hassle it would be selling across the border, but I'd like to see you get into the mail order parts business. Thanks again for your videos.
Ma and Pa shops are disappearing fast! It’s hard to be in business here. Our government policies and taxes make it hard. Ontarable is an expensive place to live.
Most shops wouldn’t provide the level of service you offer your clients. Many would only address the specific issue the customer reports while charging significantly higher prices. You are a true service facility that delivers quality work at a fair price, and I commend you for it. I wish there were a shop like yours in my area. Keep up the great content, and thank you for all that you do. Happy New Year! Robert
Personally Erica, I think $117.00 is a reasonable price for all the work you did on that saw. Every time I see the "New Video" blue dot I know there's some quality time ahead! Keep these great videos coming and thank you! Thank you again Erica!
I've learned more than I'll ever, EVER need to know about chainsaws from this channel. But I keep watching, just because it's a fun channel to watch. Weird. 🤷
I’m glad Tony and Lily are enjoying the heated cat beds. They are adorable! You are significantly undercharging for your services. Most all your viewers agree. Call all your competitors acting as a potential customer. Make multiple calls to each over a couple weeks until you know all their prices. Then set your prices at the top end, not the bottom end. You will find demand will still be good. You both do good work. You deserve to make a good living doing it-and you both deserve to retire with a nest-egg someday too. I have been a small business owner in the service industry for 25 years. A business consultant once told me that if you don’t have at least two customers a week complain about your prices then you are not charging enough. Thanks for another great video!
Chainsaw service cost in Australia is $56.50 plus cost of parts plus 10% goods and service tax. Love your videos. You explain everything thoroughly, Cheers!
Hi Erica, like others have said, that price is more than fair. In Australian dollars that would be $190. However, that would almost be the cost of parts from Stihl here. Your customers should really appreciate having you.
Something I noticed that I’ve never seen you use is one of those little metal magnetic parts tray holders to hold little screws and such when you are taking apart saws. I have a few of them and absolutely love them. They’re dirt cheap too.
I would say the work you done is a low $$$. Stihl dealers in central Michigan shop rate is around $75 to $100 per hour. The air filter and chain would cost around $55 alone. If i lived in Canada I would definitely send work over your way. Most Stihl dealers in my are take one look at your saw and say you would be better off buying something new and send you on your way.😮 Keep up the good work. I love the idea of including a price in the video.
Anyone else see the bird strolling by? I sat down with a nice cup of black coffee and ended up drinking the whole freekin pot. I'm BUZZED. "Tyler I need an air filter. Wow that was quick." lol Erica could have a side hustle channel on youtube teaching hand acting. Your customers are lucky to have this top tier service at a reasonable shop rate. Well done. Thanks for the video gold.
I honestly thought the guy climbing your gate and rattling on the door was setup and a joke of yours. I've only just realised due to the comment at the start of this video that it wasn't 😆. Keep up the good work , I like watching your repair videos. I learn something every time
Thanks for explaining about the heat treatment around the edge of the bar. The bar on my ms250 has the blue around the edge. Glad to know I didn't ruin it.
That saw has been cutting roof shingles, my son inlaw did it with my 029 super, chain looked just like that, ruined my new chain...I'm 74 years old, love your videos..keep on keepin on...
A true testimonial as to how durable Stihl saws are and the 026 260 are some of the best they ever built!! I think there is definitely a place for cordless saws because a high percentage of people have no clue how to take care of gas saws. Thanks for another great video
Speaking of battery saws...l like em...no ear plugs...can listen to the radio when gathering wood..there light etc. I have gas saws too...ms311 now...034av...before that Erica inspired me to resurrect"thank you Erica!" There both good saws ..but if I can use the battery saw ..msa200c...I grab it first...B nice for a change up...to c a battery saw on the bench...with a trouble shooting flow chart.of the engine control module...motor ...etc...One other thing...I ordered a heated cat bed too after watching!
I think you should raise your rate, you go beyond the bare minimum for your customers and you are a genuine expert in your field, that is worth the money right there. As a diesel mechanic, our rates are different, and it took my customers encouraging me to raise my rates and when I did, work did NOT slow down - in fact more people came. I'm currently dealing with a chainsaw shop now that is not worth what they are charging, I would rather mail the chainsaw to you honestly as it has had to go back to the shop a 4th time because of their incompetance.
Another fine service Erica. I think $117 is a very fair price for what you did, I would have no issues paying for that. I think bringing those two MS260’s back to life is a great idea, can’t wait to watch. Great catch on market place, can’t wait to see it, take care.
Thanks for another brilliant video. I live off-grid in Scotland, am very much a keen amateur when it comes to chainsaws. Perfection and well worth every penny especially if you don't even understand the three basic principles every internal combustion engine requires to run.
The whole UA-cam thing opened my eyes years ago to the fact that a lot of folks are not mechanically inclined and have to clue how to work on or fix even the simplest of things. I’m pushing 60 now and I grew up in a time where my father fixed everything. From vehicles to washing machines to TVs. He built buildings and installed roofs and many other construction projects. My whole family joined in these projects and my father taught us well. It was not until I left home at 18 after high school that I learned that there were such things as repairmen and businesses that did such things. We did it all ourselves back then and rebuilt everything until it just couldn’t be rebuilt any more. I guess that’s why I take such satisfaction in doing it myself, no matter what it is. The sad part is folks don’t k ow or care about basic maintenance that goes hand in hand with owning any piece of equipment. If I use it I was taught to clean it after before putting it away. Things last almost forever that way.
@1966poker One point to note: [Not to diminish your fathers' skill level in anyway] ...In your Dad's day, (my Dad's too), things were designed with ease of service in mind. Before the idea of 'Planned obsolecence' took root. Most newer items are purposely made difficult/impossible to service to encourage people to discard/buy new. Another job well done! I'm finally almost done with the rebuild on my personal 026 just waiting for a new clutch drum and rim. it's one of the older ones with just the low side carb adjustment and the continuous oiler. I'm in Arizona you would be surprised how much chainsaw repair work I do.
Thanks for the video I will watch it again to help me with my problems with my saws I can do it and save me some money. Have a good Day and enjoy your week

Well now this was an interesting video and I have never seen a chainsaw air filter that dirty. It's a good thing Eric that you have a strong arm and shoulder as I watch you pulling on a lot of those chainsaws that only would try to start. Probably the best thing for that chainsaw is that it wouldn't start. With that dirty air filter, eventually it would have had to start sucking damaging debris into the combustion chamber.
I'm thinking a Marketplace series might be cool. It will create some awareness to what condition things could be in although the owner says "i just needs a spark plug, probably" lol
Erica, I like you describing the price to fix equipment. I think you are very fair and thorough on repairs and this customers saw is like new again. 👏🇨🇦🇺🇸
Ha, I am to the point when I see a video posted, I drop everything to watch! Just dig it! I am certain the skit with the guy jumping the fence with saws actually happened. Keep up the excellent work!👍
I love it when you clean and get another saw back in the cutting,Erica!! I don't remember what we charged, that was a long time ago, but when it comes to cost I tell people,"what is it worth to you to get your saw back, can you buy a new saw cheaper"? I like that new wood background,BTW, but you need your saw cutout back up! 😉
Some people shouldn’t own any machinery! I wish that was my saw.. great video Erica! That’s about $190 Australian. To have a great saw back working it’s a bargain! 🇦🇺🍺🍺
thats more than a fair price for that service on that saw. about the other saws that you have for rehabs go for it if the parts are available and resonable. if you can reuse hard parts such as the crank bearings if good go for it. 2 strokes get abused when they idle more or less they arent four strokes. erica go for the gusto. se you on the next video.
Hi Erica I noticed in the past few videos your are using a new adapter with your pressure/vac tool. May I ask where you got it I would like to get one!! I appreciate all the time spent making these vids haven't missed one yet. Looking forward to the 260 rebuild. Cheers!
Regarding your pricing, The cost you quoted for parts & labour compares slightly low to the sort of pricing we get here in England. However when the exchange rate is taken into account you would be way low.
That US $117 would be at least twice the price here in NZ. I’d love to send you my old MS270 for a service, US$117 plus $500 freight charge…… just kidding. Love your work Erica. Now, about that Hornet…….
Thank you for another great video! And your pricing is very fair, maybe too fair to the customer. :) I enjoy all of your videos, especially your process of troubleshooting and peeling back the layers as you go. While I don’t have a really old saw to look after, I have learned so much about properly cleaning and maintaining my 180c and 261c. (Not to mention my other Stihl equipment.) Love the ongoing saga of the 260’s and looking forward to the marketplace find!

That poor MS260 lives the life of abuse and neglect! FeelsSadMan! Good thing Erica is there to make it all better! Thanks Erica! Your the best.😀👍

Good morning! I really like the dumpster ones. Trying to find a dumpster one myself to tinker with
Me too! I'm always peering in dumpsters!
@@marriedwithsmallengines it’s amazing what some people will throw away.
Great job Erika. I learn so much every time I watch your Stihl Service videos.
Thank you!

He sure is!
Good morning everyone! Another great video!
Good morning, thank you!!
Some people shouldn’t own any machinery! I wish that was my saw.. great video Erica! That’s about $190 Australian. To have a great saw back working it’s a bargain! 🇦🇺🍺🍺
Thank you very much!
Awesome video, great work. Thank you Erica
Thanks for watching!
And again excellent video, great work, thank you ma'am!!! Quality used saws on ebay comes to mind!
Thank you for watching! Yes, there is going to be a bunch of saws heading to EBay! 😁
@marriedwithsmallengines Great!! What is the name of your ebay store?
@@mattw5729 it will be under the name married with small engines
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Good morning glad to see another video , tell Mr Chainsaw hello
Good morning! He says hi back!
Thanks again ❤ always look forward to your next video
thats more than a fair price for that service on that saw. about the other saws that you have for rehabs go for it if the parts are available and resonable. if you can reuse hard parts such as the crank bearings if good go for it. 2 strokes get abused when they idle more or less they arent four strokes. erica go for the gusto. se you on the next video.
$167.90 in Canadian peso's. A very fair price considering the cost of the plug, chain, fuel and air filter are in there. Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate you! :)
...like cutting warm butter. Good job Erica.
Thank you 😋
I would ok with that price thanks for the show.
Hi Erica I noticed in the past few videos your are using a new adapter with your pressure/vac tool. May I ask where you got it I would like to get one!! I appreciate all the time spent making these vids haven't missed one yet. Looking forward to the 260 rebuild. Cheers!
Nice job,love your channel.
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Regarding your pricing, The cost you quoted for parts & labour compares slightly low to the sort of pricing we get here in England. However when the exchange rate is taken into account you would be way low.
Good information... As always very professional..
Hi! Thank you for watching!!
I enjoy all of your videos, especially your process of troubleshooting and peeling back the layers as you go. While I don’t have a really old saw to look after, I have learned so much about properly cleaning and maintaining my 180c and 261c. (Not to mention my other Stihl equipment.)
Love the ongoing saga of the 260’s and looking forward to the marketplace find!
Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy the marketplace find!
Love the idea of using FB market place. A lot of people use it to buy and sell so we can relate to it.
Yes!
The cats are gorgeous.
Thank you! I will tell them what you said!
@ Cats usually know that.
