    I always ask the tire people to not to tighten my lugs with the machines because I have been stuck with nuts I couldn't get off. I forgot the last time and again they are stuck. I watched your video and presto the pipe worked like a charm. I am a seasoned woman of 69, I just love your ideas. Thank you.

    1. Put the wrench on the stuck nut at 3 o'clock.
    2. Use your car's jack to lift the wrench handle.
    3. Eventually the weight of the car will turn the wrench.

    Hey Scotty I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my life so much easier with this video. My tire popped at 3:30 am on the south side of Chicago. I tried hard to lossen the bolts using a nug wrench with my arms and after seeing you jump on it, I tried it myself and within the first jump they loosened. just happy to say I made it back home. Thank you again scotty🙏. You really helped me out!

    Great powder puff mechanical help, Scotty. I've been doing that since I was a teen. Common sense. Some people are just ignorant about this kinda stuff. The tire guy once used his air wrench on my lug bolts so tight, I had to stand on the lug tool and jump on it with 200 lbs. Of my weight. Once out I found them all stripped! MAKE SURE THESE NUCKLE HEADS ONLY TORQUE YOU NUTS TO SPECKS! OR YOU'LL END UP BUYING NEW LUGS BOLTS OR A NEW WHEEL HUB.

    Did brakes on my neighbor's Mazda 3, had stuck lugs and once the lug nuts were removed the alum.wheel was stuck to the hub! still couldn't get the rear tires off.we left the nuts slightly loose and drove it in a tight circle in two directions to finally get them both loose. The other neighbors now think WE'RE nuts.They made a pretty loud POP when finally coming off the hub. PITA! Hope this helps someone out.

    I hate when tire shops over tighten lug nuts.. I've had a tire shop break one of my lug nuts by using one of air impact guns... I cringe when I see a tire shop tightening a lug nut that only needs 80-90ft lbs with a 500ft lbs impact gun.

    • @inbredjesus9188
      @inbredjesus9188 6 років тому +2

      Anthony thats why we use torque sticks on the guns which stop the gun from going above the listed torque.

    • @znovosad555
      @znovosad555 6 років тому +3

      You dont need an impact to shear a stud. I did it with a tire iron

    • @oldtwinsna8347
      @oldtwinsna8347 6 років тому

      The studs would shear off with that kind of torque. They use torque sticks that limit the torque.

    • @baehoeta3693
      @baehoeta3693 4 роки тому

      I think the highest rating of torque for an impact gun is like 125ft-lb of torque

      A lot do it the right way but people expect cars out in 5 minutes so they don't like the dealerships because it takes to long to do it the right way so and take there cars to the cheapest place like Jiffy Lube or Walmart because its fast. What do you expect after taking there and you realize they did a bad job. What do you want for a $20 dollar oil change. Cheap customer Cheap service.

    Omg so awesome!!! I still had a 25" long scrap piece of chain link fencing top rail pipe laying around and it fit right over the lug nut key and it's so easy to use it to remove the lug nuts now!! You saved my day, God bless you!🙂 I will keep that piece of pipe in my car.

    Hey Scotty, you saved my life. I live in the middle of nowhere so I am dependent on my car. Thought I would not be able to get to work but thanks to you and a metal bar I found in the garage I am back on the road again!

    40 years ago I worked on a used car lot. Customer wanted to keep the tires from his old car & swap to newer car. Lug nuts were TIGHT! Used my 4-way lug wrench, really cranked. Twisted wrench 180 degrees! (I'm a pretty big guy.) Nut never turned. We made him take the car to where he bought the tires. They broke several wheel studs on the job.

    Thank you Scotty! Using a pipe actually works but be careful. It might actually give you too much power. I actually broke the bolt off using the metal pipe technique. Twisted it right off.

    Just wanted to say thank you. After I got a flat, I spent a couple hours fighting the darn lugnuts trying to get even 1 to pop. I figured the guy who put them on had to be twice my size and green. Ended up breaking my tire iron on one when I balanced my entire weight on the thing to try and pop it, and it was still snuggly attatched.
    That Archimedes trick worked exceptionally well though, after I got a new tire iron. I refuse to take a car to a mechanic just to take off a tire. I should be able to pop one on the side of the road should I get stranded, and now I ride with a yard long pole in my trunk along side my tool chest. Thanks for the tip!

    Scotty, I know I'm 6 years too late for commenting, but tonight I just had a flat, and not having the physical strength, I paid a guy on the street to help me get stuck lug nuts off of my '14 Camry SE. He did exactly what you did at 1:01. Being that all of my tires are from the factory (4 years old and unevenly worn from the previous owner (lease)), I just had them all replaced. But sitting in the Toyota dealership (Team Toyota of Langhorne, PA), I got to thinking that standing on the tire iron might accidentally have bent or stripped the studs. Seeing you do it makes me feel a lot better!

    I carry a fairly short pipe that'll fit in my wheel well and keep a long pipe at home. I can change into my snow tires in less time than it takes me to drive to the shop and I'm a small 58 year old woman. I was looking for a good UA-cam video to explain to others how to loosen lug nuts and this is perfect

    Gotta be careful when torquing lug nuts on with a tire iron. Easily will shear the lug stud. Now that I've learned how to do it I know it's an easy fix but a torque wrench is always best so you know it's being torqued properly

    If you don't have a 5' bar on the side of the highway, simply drive the car in the direction needed to break the bolt free. Don't forget to not have it on a jack, keep all the other bolts tight, and be mindful the direction of travel will have on the bolt. =)
