100% true that’s why I remove the tire in the next parking lot of a tire shop and roll the tires to the shop have them do their thing with the wheels and tires and roll them back to where I parked and install them by hand myself.
Good advice, but I did all that even with the extension bar and at the end, it snapped all 5 Lugnuts people that use an air impact in these tire shops need to be put in jail
@@jerrelhintergardt6898 we tried all that, and nothing worked at all. We had to cut off the rim and remove the knuckle with the brake caliper and rotor on it. When you need to turn the lug nut counterclockwise at 10 million psi, then you just have to cut off the rim

I bought a 36" breaker bar and a set of Chromoly 500nm max tourque wheel sockets. I always undo the wheel nuts after a mechanic or tyre fitter has been near them. I apply some copper grease and tighten them to spec and check them on a regular basis.

I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. WalMart is the only place my truck has ever been for tire work. Went in for a rotation and they rounded off 4 on the first tire they tried. Told me "someone" got them too tight. I told them, Yea...you ! They said they don't put them on too tight and they can't do anything for me. I worked my way up the ladder of folks with WalMart until finally someone from corporate called me and basically said, Tough poop. So......now I have to take it to a truck shop and get the darn things removed and tires rotated. I hope there's another option out there to buy different lugs, because I don't want the same things put back on. Great video. I'm just not set up with the right tools and physically can't do it. 4 years of working at a gas station if it doesn't start taking off forward you reverse it back and forth till it comes off I'm a good day we did 40 sets of tires. Happened all the time never needed to break out in a w d 40 or waste any of that kind of time😮 PS Maybe it was the top-notch snap-on impact wrenches we were using🎉
The local Honda dealer replaced our tires we went back to have them rotated one lug would not come off they called me saying if the stud breaks it will cost $500 because the whole hub will have to be replaced. Some real bullshit

Had one on the road that was hard. Put star wrench and jacked car up. Used weight of car to break it loose. Hardest one ever were lug bolts on. VW van. Be very careful but heat those with an oxy/acetyl cutting torch until cherry red. I guarantee it'll come loose.
Try to tighten the lug nut with an impact wrench then reverse wrench may break it loose... Also use a dead blow hammer hit the socket hoping to break it loose.

Sorry for delayed response! But yes! If you can drive it, that usually heats em up good. Might have to use a heat gun, etc…. Depending on what you may have to work with….

If you round off your lug nuts (or break your special lock socket) just grab a socket (not a deep one) that will almost fit but is too small for the nut, tap it on just enough till it will stay on the nut, then grab a sledge and swing away,(don't miss) then remove it, worked perfectly every time for me so far
Ya these breaker bars are powerful. Last week I tried to do my rear brakes on a smart fortwo - which uses 15mm Hex headed bolts as opposed to lug nuts. I didn't know it could be done but i snapped the damn head off a bolt. Of course I only figured this out after breaking it that it was a bolt. Should have lubed it - went caveman - learned my lesson.
Some good tips ..but if it wont shift after reasonable effort with a breaker bar I suggest not pushing it too far ..the real risk is breaking the lug nuts …which is a real headache ..I usually loosen mine with a breaker bar after a trip to the tire shop and re torque to spec ..to enable roadside removal if necessary . I’ve had the occasional one that wont come loose..I usually go to a tire shop and ask them to loosen then i re torque.. Garages and tire shops seem to tighten up excessively with air tools leaving the driver with a problem if they need to get them off in an emergency.
I have a 1936 Ford. I'm trying to get the stuck lug nuts off. The wire speed wheel has a cylinder protruding, leaving the surface of the lug nuts about 4" inside. I've tried a pneumatic I-R impact wrench rated at 1250 ft-lb, heat, speaking in penetrative oil and with a combo of acetone/ATF. I've tried a star lug wrench with a 24" length to really lean into it. They aren't budging. It's there anything else I can try?

It didn't sound like the oil penetrated when it popped loose. The reason being, a tapered lug nut is like a flared fitting as on a hydraulic system. The tighter the nut, the more it seals. On that acorn nut no oil made it to the threads or into the flare.
Tapered lug nuts??? What the hell!? Why would they do that?? lol I am not mechanic and I have been having a hell of a time with mine. Specs say 19mm but that doesnt even go on half way. So Im picking up a 20mm tomorrow. Those folks really need to be punished for that kind of negligence!
Spray it with jb blaster the day before and use a corded impact driver from harbor freight they are stronger then battery and cheaper 80.00 for a 1050 break the problem with pneumatic is they are subject to air pressure so may have been way weaker than he thought. Mine had less torque then a 440 break even though it said 1000 The corded removed my stuck lugs that my pneumatic and battery impact failed on. I thought id give it a try thinking id return it if it failed but got them all loose. I also bought a 6 point impact socket for 3.99. torque guns have only rotational force no side or down pressure that breaks lugs so long bars are more likely to snap them.
Is there an actual torque spec for lugs? My tire guy puts them on with like a gorilla impact, so if you're on the side of the road with a flat, your screwed. AAA shows up bitches about it and tows you

good t3chnique but uses a lot of tools. when on the road you don't have those. What i do is use the car's weight to slowly loosen it by lifting the wrench with your jack.
i was able to get only one lol i am going taking to the shop tomorrow and ask them not to do that again 😅 next day they almost could not take them off 🤣
They have emergency lug nut remover kits. It looks like a socket. You would have to replace the lug nut because it creastes its own pattern to pry off the lug nut
The worst thing is that I did this to myself… 🥹 Tightened thise nuts with an impact gun and didn’t drive my car for a year since then… All nuts are completely seized.. I soaked them in some penetrating oil, I will try again tomorrow…
@@nopoohfan7112 Thanks for the tip, but torch would ruing my alloy wheels.. However, the next day after I soaked the nuts, I was able to unscrew them using a long wrench. All good now! Never tightening again without a torque wrench, that's for sure!
Most of the tire shops have idiots using impact wrenches improperly and then later when you have a flat your stuck with the problem.

Use the oxy/acetyl torch. It will come loose easily with no breakage.

The shop tightens them too much on purpose worldwide so you have to go back to them

Typical dealerships. That’s why do my own work. You can replace your own hub for about $40 if you buy aftermarket parts and diy

Did the same for my 2015 Jetta. PB blaster, breaker bar and a specialty socket for lugs. 20 mins to do one tire.

Put socket on and pound on it with a 3 lb. sledge, vibration will break bond. Better than breaking tools.

I've got one that is stuck halfway off it only wiggles 1/4 turn left or 1/4 turn right. can't get it with a breaker bar or impact

You’ll need to drill out the stud so you can break the nut off. Once done you’ll need to replace the stud
