OMG, your channel is the best! The seat jackers are dope (I'm not a tall woman) and then give room for the compressor. From one software engineer to another, I'm literally following your roadmap. I wish you had a Jira server for it. :) Your truck looks so good in silver it finally put to rest my internal debate between inferno and silver. Every mod you pick is exactly what I would pick (want those sliders real bad). Thank you! So, so stoked I found your channel.

It should come as no surprise that you're closing in on 25 THOUSAND subscribers. You produce exceptional content, your editing is on point and you're upgrading your Tacoma with tasteful and sensible mods. I'm doing the TRD intake but will be pairing it with the TRD exhaust. I'm pretty sure the exhaust is on your short list as well.

Sadly people don't realize your not increasing the amount of air your just making it easier for the air to flow and the engine to get what it needs. plus you can get the same results by just dropping in a K&N oiled filter without buying the TDR kit. Plus if you modify your original air entrance guard (see time stamp 9:14) and cut the splash guard (the half cup looking part off) you'll remove air floe restriction/turbulence. The only true way to increase air volume into the engine is with a turbo or a super charger. Yet with that all said you keep doing what you do Chloe. The look is nice and modding your vehicle is making it truly yours. keep up the good videos, and keep living the taco life.

    • @saysbadman
      @saysbadman 26 днів тому

That's fairly true. With colder air it is denser which is why fuel economy drops in the winter. You will need more fuel with colder denser air, but you'll get a small bump in power. She claimed better fuel economy, but there could be a number of factors. So I do not know. I'll have to go back to see all the parts included with the kit, but it just looked like the upper air box, red colored couplers, the "performance" air filter, and the horn shaped rubber piece that attached to the bottom of the air box. I think she reused the middle part of the stock intake that includes the resonator box. I'll have to go back and look, but if it came with a new resonator box that would account for a different sound.
I think the magic part is probably that horn shaped rubber piece if the kit does make any extra power. Watching people build cars, and messing with plenum shape/size, intake runner size/length, and the opening horn shape on individual throttle bodies affect horse power. Sure that kit may suck in a bit more water than the stock configuration, but it shouldn't hurt anything unless you submerge it or maybe block it with mud. Unless you hydrolock your engine, a bit of moisture should just steam clean your piston, and then exit the exhaust.
What I like about this system is it opens up the intake, and maybe gets cooler air unlike an aftermarket cold air intake with a long tube. A long tube may get colder air, but throttle response suffers because it has to equalize the pressure of that longer tube where as a short intake would have better response. A short ram intake is subject to heat soak though.
Edit; went back to look at the parts 2:38 it seems it comes with that middle black tube. So after measuring the tube diameter, and if it is the same you could stay with stock sound or go with the trd kit middle pipe. I'VE NEVER LAID HANDS ON THE KIT, but I would expect the only difference would be the resonator. You wouldn't hear the sound difference at the exhaust, but rather in the engine bay.

I did this mod and for sure the exhaust is more throaty sounding. Nice. I think perhaps slightly more power too. I would say a bit pricey but then OEM is usually more. Sparks is a great dealer. I update my GPS map (have 2017 Tacoma Sport in quicksand color) too at Sparks and it is slight different map than what had. Tracks the roads i previously drove on. Another mod I did is added hydraulic hood lifts that were recommended good choice, USA made.

Never owned a Toyota but just bought the Army Green Taco. Chloe; I am amazed at the push-back on the TRD CAI. Its not TRULY a cold air intake but its volume is bigger. I experienced a 1.5-2 mpg uptick immediately with the CAI. Knowing though that what goes in must come out, I added the CAT back TRD exhaust. The mpg improvement of the two improvements is still 1.5 mpg, it sounds pretty mellow, it drives with a bit more power which also seemed to have eliminated the transmission downshifting issue people complain about. If people can stomach the $900 or so that the two items will cost (self installed), these are WELL worth it. I LOVE this truck.

The only reason that it doesn't show that fitment on the website is because Toyota has to get them CARB approved in all 50 states before updating fitment. One thing to note, the airflow accelerator should go through the hole into your fender well first and then the lower airbox slides onto it. If you try to push it against the hole inside the engine bay, the accelerator will collapse and leave a gap that pulls hot air from your engine bay.

I put this upgraded intake together with the TRD Pro exhaust on my 2019 TRD 4X4 and had the same outcomes. Additional Gas mileage is between 2 to 3 mpg with a noticeable improvement in acceleration. However these mods are not cheap and you need to weigh that expense against suspension upgrades and accessories you may need for overlanding and camping. Bottom line, if you have the coinage, do it.

I'm thinking about the injen intake, but honestly it'll be one of my last mods since stock is already a cold air intake. With other mods for the engine, it would be nice to get a tune. Getting that Magnuson Supercharger would be better though. 😁

Got a afe intake and cat back. Wasn't a big difference beside I like how it sounds. Should of went with the trd cause cheaper. I would remove that after filter screen to maybe help with air flow. But the greatest mod was the kd max tune, which is a modified version of the ov tune, suppose to be even better. I pull with mine and it is a big difference. Great video too.

Report back in a month or two when your ECU has reprogrammed to account for the increased airflow into the engine. I've tried a couple of intakes, both Injen and K&N. Both provided a bit louder intake noise and what I thought was a bit more torque but after a few hundred miles the trucks performance returned to normal if not a little less responsive. The only way intakes and high flow filters increase power correctly is to have the ECU retuned. It looks cool but I'm not sure looking cool under the hood increases performance or gas mileage.

one important thing to keep in mind; Any upgrade that is used for air flow intake into the motor, you should always get the vehicle tuned to account for the airflow. That's the only way to fully optimize the increase in power. Thats why I always wait to do all of my intake/airflow mods all together and immediately take it in for a tune.

Actually, the air flow sensor talks to the CPU and modifies the fuel mixture accordingly. Your engine is smart, and "learns" everything including the way you drive. There are no Tunes specific to a Cold Air Intake, because there is no need for one.

It has been proven time and time again that a CAI does nothing unless you have a super charger or a turbo, They do make you 400 bucks less rich though. If a CAI gave you 5 more mpg you can bet your ass it would come stock on your truck already.....Don't you think that would be a huge selling point for the manufactures?

I put a cold air intake on my on my Stage 2 TDI and which would be way more noticeable then a naturally aspirated engine. It's placebo effect you hear way more engine noise which can even become annoying but pretty much no power gains and after seeing that a replacement filter was $120 I just went to stock and bought $30 K&N filter. I personally spent the money on something more noticeable.

I have this intake on my 2017 trd off road tacoma. I wouldn't but it again because I didn't notice any difference in mpg or power. I paid $400+. If this increased efficiency or power it would be reflected on the trd pro models. They come with this intake stock and are rated exactly the same power and mpgs as the trd off road models. It is though aesthetically pleasing and the reusable filter is great.
