On Sundays I put this song on in my living room and dance around my dog. She gets a real kick out of it. Of course, I have to change "frog" to "dog" for her.
Honey, lovin' you is the greatest thing I get to be myself and I get to sing I get to play at being irresponsible I come home late at night and I love your soul I never forget you in my prayers I never have a bad thing to report [Chorus] You're my picture on the wall You're my vision in the hall You're the one I'm talking to When I get in from my work You are my girl, and you don't even know it I am livin out the life of a poet I am the jester in the ancient court You're the funny little frog in my throat [Verse 2] My eye sight's fading, my hearing's dim I can't get insured for the state I'm in I'm a danger to myself I've been starting fights At the party at the club on a Saturday night But I don't get disapproving from my girl She gets the all highlights wrapped in pearls You're my picture on the wall You're my vision in the hall You're the one I'm talking to When I get in from my work You are my girl, and you don't even know it I am livin out the life of a poet I am the jester in the ancient court You're the funny little frog in my throat [Verse 3] I had a conversation with you at night It's a little one sided but that's alright I tell you in the kitchen about my day You sit on the bed in the dark changing places With the ghost that was there before you came You've come to save my life again [Verse 4] I don't dare to touch your hand I don't dare to think of you In a physical way And I don't know how you smell You are the cover of my magazine You're my fashion tip, a living museum I'd pay to visit you on rainy Sundays I'll maybe tell you all about it someday
a murphy I used to work in wedding videos, and we’d joke that most, indeed most, of the songs handed us had entendres that weren’t pure. That’s all there is. I don’t know where the code words are in this song, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they were there. I guess now to genius.com for interpretation. :)
I “liked” this song on YT ten or so years ago. Today I found out YT has a shuffle play option for Liked videos, and just tried it out. This video was like the 6th video to play out of at least 10,000 like videos and I fell back in love with in 2024! I thought I forgot about this song but here I am singing all the words. Listening to this again today reminds me that I wasn’t so jaded and cranky and serious once upon a time. God bless you GHTG for ever making this song. ✌🏾

This song is dedicated to my little bunny Ziggy. Today he's already 4 years old. 🐰💕
I love this song and the movie "God Help The Girl" so much. It's the most beautiful movie, no exaggerated. I watch the movie more than 50 times in this 2 years. I am Japanese. so I'm sorry for my poor English.
I prefer this version over original one... It has stucked in my head but after not first listen but around 5th... btw. this whole album has great sound!!
It's so hard to find the name BRITTANY STALLINGS. That's her singing. Yes, the original artists Belle & Sebastian selected her, Stuart Murdoch always said he wanted it sung slower and by a female, and Neil Hannon is ubiquitous in cool British music. This is official enough to be published on the official channel. But it's Brittany Stallings singing here, and that's what people keep asking below and not getting an answer to. She lives in Washington and does not sing full-time. And I'm not sure how to find an official copy of this song (I mean, to pay for one, not just illegally scrape it off youtube.)
I found a copy of the cd God Help the Girl at my local library. It must be obscure here in the US. Hell,I didn't know it was a movie soundtrack. Its wonderful
@@samfrito Obscure enough that I've never actually seen the movie; but I found it on Spotify a few years ago and it's been on my rotation since. ...and each singer's other bands.
@@samfrito Oh, now on Spotify that there are two CDs! One appears to be the beta, from this backing band above and has 14 tracks with this version of this song!, and the other has the movie cast on the cover and has 28 tracks with the movie versions. Which do you have?
I really like this reworking (I say reworking instead of cover because GHTG is essentially a Belle and Sebastian/Stuart Murdoch side project) of the song. It could have easily been released by Motown Records in the mid-60s. GHTG is terrific, great album.
Though I pretty much love everything by Belle&Sebastian (and especially THE LIFE PURSUIT) I really prefer this version of the song because of the nice musical arrangement (the voicing of the backing-vocals... facemeltig! And the solo voice in the last verse (2:46...) is heaven!) and because that female voice has a... soul-attitude which seems to be a surprisingly good match in a B&S-song! Plus... I'm a guy, and the singer is such a natural beauty :o)
Just found out about this song because of a tweet link from @RosanneCash .. She said that she has listened to it "257 times over the last couple of years" ;)

Oh, he sings everything perfectly. ha! 2:46 is pretty cool, I mean, it's not like she annoys me, it's just ironic to me that my favorite song by them was changed. Also, I do wish I had known about this and could have auditioned, even though it was obviously fierce competition. I love to sing, and I don't sing like Mariah Carey or any of those types of singers. I am curious to see how this musical turns out!
I've just came across both this song and B&S's version. I can't say I like the other better; indeed, I really think that this arrangement has got better quality, in what concerns instruments. I also prefer this kind of rythm with Murdoch's lyrics, it really gives it another dimension. Great work!

Such a beautiful and natural voice with the strength and the balance of youth and maturity. Perfect. My absolute favorite.
What a beautiful song and the girl who sings... she's terrible cute!!!

I love the original for dancing too, this one is so good to chill out.
