Kiss is traditionally a heavy rock band. The story goes that Paul Stanley, the lead singer in this song, wanted to prove he could write a disco song. He went home, put a drum machine on 120 bpm, and wrote this song in a short time.
Uh, the version I heard was the band's manager in 1973 said something derogatory to Paul Stanley saying they couldn't write their own songs. So Paul went for a Dump and 20 minutes later put this into the Managers hand; though it wasn't released until 1979 as said manager didn't think it was good enough. As we all know it's probably the best song they've ever recorded. I have no idea if they sacked the manager.
The guy who was licking his bass is Gene Simmons. The singer with the star on his eye is Paul Stanley. The guitarist is Ace Frehley, and the drummer is Peter Criss. God of Thunder is a rocking song sung by Gene. Beth, a song sung by Peter, is a ballad. Kiss is a rock band but this song falls into the disco category.

Paul Stanley was at Studio 54 in New York, heard disco music and thought, "i can do this, and better". And wrote a number 1 hit song (with help of Desmond Child)
Life-long KISS fan here. This song was a bet that they could pull off a disco type track. They rock a lot harder than this. Gene, the guy with the tongue is a marketing genius. Their name is on everything and getting paid well for it.
Yeah as mentioned before this is considered their DISCO song. Their early rock songs are "Detroit Rock City," "Strutter," "I Love It Loud," "Rock & Roll All Night," "Beth," and "Shout It Out Loud." Later hits "Hide You Heart," "Forever," "Reason To Live," "Thrills In The Night," and "Heavens On Fire."
Each guy adopted a persona and their makeup help conveyed that image. Gene was the demon, with his very long tongue. Paul, the lead singer, is Starchild. Paul actually starred in Phantom of the Opera in the lead role for quite some time. Ace, the guitarist, is the Spaceman. Idk if you noticed but his guitar was actually flashing. And the drummer is Peter, the cat, He wrote one of their biggest songs called Beth, a ballad written for a significant other who was home alone while they were rehearsing and trying to make it big. Kiss was the first band to really incorporate pyro and other visual aspects (spitting blood and fire were also common) into their performance.
Gene Simmons adopted the demon persona to be the antithesis of Paul Stanley's Starchild, seemingly being similar to a "good" character. Peter Criss liked cats, so he adopted the cat makeup. Ace Frehley adopted his Spaceman makeup because he was very much into science fiction movies.
Yeah, Peter took the demo song "Beck" from his former band Chelsea (a song about his then guitarist Mike Brand's wife), and reworked it together with Bob Ezrin. Bob is the genius behind the instrumental composition and orchestration of "Beth".
Kiss is definitely one of my top 4 bands ever alongside Aerosmith, Coldplay, and Metallica. This song you ladies are reacting to comes off their 1979 release called "Dynasty" and was written by guitarist/lead singer Paul Stanley (the Starchild), Vini Poncia (who actually played drums on 8/9 of the Dynasty album, and Desmond Child (professionally known American singer and songwriter). Kiss is currently on their final North American leg of shows ever for their final End of the Road Tour and it will all come to an end December 2nd in New York City. 50 Years of Kiss (they've been rockin since 1973
this song has a magic -I have heard it a hundred times from beginning to the end and I never get tired of listening to it again and again -not many songs make this effect - KISS they are CLASSIC rock !
KISS wrote this song to (demon)strate (LOL - just thought of that now) how easy it is to write a disco song. Most of their normal work was heavy metal as you'd expect although, at times, it was a little pop-y if I'm being honest. "Rock and Roll All Nite" is arguably their most famous song.
Other bands like KISS from this era are where Metal, death metal, and, screamer rock bands got their influence from. They are each supposed to represent a character by their make-up and costume. A demon, a love child, a space alien, and a cat. KISS was started and run by Gene Simmons. The demon(long tongue) Lulu's facial expression through this was priceless.
Actually Gene and Paul were in a band together called Wicked Lester . They broke the band up and put out adds for a drummer and guitar player and Peter and Ace got the job and came up with the name Kiss. Gene and Paul are the leaders of the band Paul is the silent leader.

Keep in mind that this is NOT a typical hard rock KISS song. They had some fun with this and it was really popular - but NOT one of their hard rock tunes..... they also rocked a couple of amazing ballads

Ahhhh the memories growing up to KISS. Now it´s time for some symphonic metal. Nightwish - Ghost Love Score, live at Wacken 2013 is a perfect place to start.
You're correct the bass player with the axe guitar is Gene Simmons the demon in concert end in some of their music videos he spits blood out of his mouth and then picks up this sword on stage the sword is on fire and he spits this fluid out of his mouth at the sword and it shoots flames into the sky they are truly a great rock and roll band that have been together for well over 50 years and recently just finished up their farewell tour and went into retirement
This song took advantage of the disco era, but they have much harder and heavier songs like God of Thunder, War Machine, etc. My other favorites are Deuce, and Black Diamond.
This song was their one time doing disco. You picked a good one to ease into KISS, but if you really wanna know KISS you should do just about any other KISS song. LOL... My suggestion would be Detroit Rock City :)
Thank Ya’ll my older sister always love KISS, they have some great music, was about 10 year old when they came out with this song, but I must say they scared me to death then , but they were truly a great band 😊👍✌️🇺🇸
The Demon, The Spaceman, The Catman & Starchild. The 4 members. This was a disco song they put out in 1979. Disco was huge at that time. Not a typical Kiss song lol. Yes, they are a rock n roll band, more hard rock than metal. They formed in the early 70's still playing today 2023. Currently on a world tour. They rave about bands selling 80 million, 90 million, 100 million albums, Kiss have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide. 50 years and still going strong selling out arenas. The most successful Rock band in American history. You can go to the most remote place on earth and see someone wearing a kiss t shirt.... between 1977 and 1980 kiss were the biggest band on planet earth, it was not even close, the money they generated and the exposer, not to mention the Billion-dollar business that is Kiss incorporated. The Kiss name is bigger than the band. Enjoy.
I was in love with Paul Stanley (lead singer). He is still incredible. That voice is epic. That man was everything when I was 15. lol KISS is pure rock and roll.
KISS had many hits. This was one, but not their finest work. Rock N Roll All Night, And Party Everyday is probably their best IMHO. On a personal note: Gene Simmons (bass player with the tongue) immigrated here with his mother from Israel when he was a small child. Just like today, there was war in Israel. His mother was very beautiful and the border guards had sympathy for her and her young son so they bumped them to the front of the line to come to America. They lived in a tiny studio apt in NYC. Every night when the tv channels used to sign off the air and play the National Anthem, Gene and his mom would stand with their hands on their hearts while the song played.
5:22 Ace Frehley (silver makeup and lead guitarist) is a rock god and that’s just a fact lol, while performing live, he’d play Paul’s songs (the guy with a star on his eye) and then shred his ass off in the solos, basically writing a whole separate song on the spot lol my dad saw it himself (the guitarist was replaced by the time I saw them live), that solo is just a suggestion, he’s a genius who was held back by drugs, or, was he enhanced by drugs?😂 he had his own songs but they weren’t as commercially recognized outside of New York groove, which is a remake
Once again receive that I was made for loving you can win over any woman anytime. I mean that absolutely wonderful way, it's just that it's so damn catchy. This is not particularly representative of all of kisses work, this is a much more mainstream kind of sound but I have simply never ever and I mean ever encountered a woman who didn't love this song song after the first chorus happens. And clearly it can work on several generations of ladies

Seen them live 3 times , took my kids the 3rd time, they absolutely love the band
Awesome
this was from there disco album 1979... your looking at the 4 original members ... paul stanley with the star, ace frehley with the silver on his face, peter criss with the cat makeup and gene simmons with the demon make up... peter left in 1980, ace frehley left in 1982, check out kiss i still love you unplugged or everytime i look at you unplugged, i just wanna music video... you wont regret any of these, i promise!!!

"I Would've Expected Them To Be More Metal, Like Metallica"
This is one the Kiss songs that's on the lighter side, one of their power Ballads, as it were
Something that's more along what you might have been expecting would be something like the following Kiss Songs:
Love Gun
God Of Thunder
Rock'N'Roll All Night
Detroit Rock City
Shout It Out Loud
Cold Gin
Deuce
Calling Dr. Love
OMG HAHAHA! The youngest looks totally TRAUMATIZED 😂🤣😂🤣😂.
Lol
You guys DEFINITELY need to watch and react to MORE KISS performances/videos for sure! They have been one of the most influential and famous bands in the world and have been going since 1973. Check out some classic live videos from 1975-1978 when they were in their glory.
We will definitely be watching more Kiss.
Lulu's reaction was too real i had to subscribe, cheers for the video, love from New Zealand
This was their first attempt at disco in the height of disco late 70s tears are falling in a favorite of mine from them
My start as a Metalhead was 1980 with KISS , i was 13 years old and today 2023 with over 55 years , with still long hair is that the same strong love to Heavy Metal Music OK, Heavy Metal was never a boring Music
When I was young, I remember there was a kids TV show on PBS called Zoom and they did a visit to the kiss stage as they were setting up. They talked about the lighting, sound, and Pyro as well as many other things.
Cool
Saw Kiss twice! Their legends!.....70's rock!
This Is My All Time Favorite Song Of Kiss,Nice Reaction Ladies
Kiss
Rock n Roll all night
Kiss
Heaven on fire
Ahhhh the memories growing up to KISS.
Now it´s time for some symphonic metal. Nightwish - Ghost Love Score, live at Wacken 2013 is a perfect place to start.
Been a fan since the mid 70's. got to see them in Tampa last year, I'm 67 and my son is 38.
The expressions said everything lol
Kiss absolutely ruled the late 70s.
I remember as a kid in the late 70's/early 80's, The Kiss outfits were big for Halloween.
Lulu’s expressions are priceless
Yes, it was!
es una de las musicas mas legendarias q hay y es seguro q lo conocen todo el mundo
Creatures of the night, their best song. Been a fan since 75.
Added it to the list.
Thank Ya’ll my older sister always love KISS, they have some great music, was about 10 year old when they came out with this song, but I must say they scared me to death then , but they were truly a great band 😊👍✌️🇺🇸
I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction.
that's gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace frehley, and Peter Criss and another great song by kiss is "rock and roll all night and party everyday"
I'm crying - grandma = OH Yeah, Mother=Okay? , Daughter = I'm scared....
Ace freely is one of the best guitar players of all time
Frehley, pronounced Fray-lay according to himself and his accent. Or Fray-lee otherwise
Enjoy.
In their peak day, they WERE considered a heavy metal band
I was in love with Paul Stanley (lead singer). He is still incredible. That voice is epic. That man was everything when I was 15. lol KISS is pure rock and roll.
Lol
LULUUUUUUUU. you are killing me
That guy must love his guitar.........
The girls face says it all!!! Lol
I never heard anything else from them, until recently I listened to "Detroit Rock City", pretty good one.
This was number one for two weeks and stayed on the Australian top 20 charts for 31 weeks
Great stuff. Awesome to see 3 generations watching this. Please do more Kiss.
More to come!
i think kathy joined the kiss army as soon as she can
I saw these guys three days ago in Cleveland. They still rock.
Awesome
Paul lost his voice though, been using vocal backing track for most of the sets since this End Of the Road Tour started in 2019
Loved the reaction ladies! You should check out Queensryche "Take Hold of the Flame " live in Tokyo 1984. You won't be disappointed
Thanks
Once again receive that I was made for loving you can win over any woman anytime. I mean that absolutely wonderful way, it's just that it's so damn catchy. This is not particularly representative of all of kisses work, this is a much more mainstream kind of sound but I have simply never ever and I mean ever encountered a woman who didn't love this song song after the first chorus happens. And clearly it can work on several generations of ladies
Kiss usually Rocks but in this song they mostly Disco.
As a song writer there's something kiss know that no other band has ever been able to do there music even back in the 70s is still competitive to the music of today.
Just because Donna has the best accent in the world, I subscribed. Lulu, cherish the way she speaks, people don't want to hear it anymore, but it is something to be proud about.
Thank you for subbing.
at the time they called it disco rock...most of their songs are hard rock but this was a huge hit all over the world
Lulu is like what the heck am I seeing here lol
Good makeup skills!!! 😂🤣🤣
And Ace …. I mean damn…
They're a hard rock band and this song was a bet that they couldn't write a hit Disco song and they did hit #1 in several countries.
Want more recommend I wanna rock and roll all night.
Added it to the list.
