I think the scariest thing in DK64 in terms of enemies is the Resident Demon. Just imagine riding a mine cart and just having grave stones pop up at you while the Demon laughs at you. Then he shows up this floating large ghostly crocodile skull with piercing red eyes and disembodied clawed hands trying to crush you or claw at you and then spews flaming skulls from his mouth. Not to mention the theme for the chase scene is frantic as you are scrambling to get those coins while the beast is doing all he can to swipe them from you. Then you reach the end and think it's over...only for you to have to do the track again in reverse with a more aggressive demon trying to bar your escape. So fun. Though Kroc does get a mention due to the creepy voice, the fact that he can one shot you if you run out of time with an explosive round from his rifle, and the only thing you see is a targeting cursor moving around the screen.
@@warioland523 Resident Demon? You mean Kackle, right? Unlike Kloak, Kackle truly IS supernatural. Because of that, Kackle never really left after DKC2, he came back for vengeance in DK64 after Kremling Isle sank in DKC2.
Have you seen him in the Donkey Kong Show. They really made him Goofy in that. Using a barrel cannon to launch his underling into Cranky's house to nab the crystal coconut, lol.
A jiggy video uploaded on my birthday? That was a great gift, even if not intentional. xD Those are all creepy enemies and I definitely think that’s a great list. I was definitely going to mention the, “GET OUT!” voice from DK64. I still get nightmares from that voice line. *shivers* Also, snacker is definitely the scariest enemy in BK. I remember the first time I ran into that shark and I was freaked out for a long time and didn’t go into the water for a while.
Fun video! Has anyone mentioned the Spider in Fungi Forest in DK64 yet? I had a fear of spiders when I was younger so fighting the boss definitely made me uneasy. The scariest bit for me is definitely at the beginning - you can look up before the fight starts and see the spider on the ceiling in the dark waiting patiently, and then you got the cutscene when the spider descends with its babies when you touch the web...
For me it has to be Snacker from Banjo Kazooie, the shark from Treasure Trove Cove which made many little kids who grew up with the game terrified of going underwater, it doesn't help that he comes back in Rusty bucket bay
You know I really liked your list and I'm 100% agree that the darn Shark is the scariest enemy in Banjo-Kazooie. But still I'm kind surprised that you didn't mentioned the enemies that came from the wall's holes and paintings (I think they are called: Chompas) and same goes with the other variation called Big Cluckers (the bird that appear from a wall hole in Click Clock Wood). Those enemies really freak me out when I was a kid because in the first time playing they appeared by surprise and not counting also that if you get hit, you fall to your doom (I mean to the ground, lose health, wasted your time and go back to climb all over again...).
Skeleton Grunty in Tooie scared me so badly as a child that I didn’t get any further than reading the instruction manual - her render in the story bit spooked me so much I refused to touch the cartridge until it was time for my family to return the rental 😂 great video as always!
@@jiggylookback Yep! I think it was because they were just...regular vegetables with eyes, and they can actually hurt you. It was one of my first video games ever, after all. So I think it might have been actually the idea of getting hurt by enemies. Hearing Banjo yell out in pain.
The cutscene with them doing surgery on the squirrel was nightmare fuel, the uncut version is absolutely worse. I can see why it was one of the few cuts.
Good stuff, Jiggy! 2:50 Just to note, though, the Robo-Kremlings in Franctic Factory can be destroyed by a few Orange Grenades. I had forgotten about _that_ boss in Jet Force Gemini...yeah, I remember getting fairly intimidated by it. Rare was always great about setting the tone for their environments and having some intense moments. Weldar , Lord Woo Fak Fak, Mad Jack and Puftoss felt intimidating when I was younger. I agree King Kut Out was a bit terrifying and was probably harder to me than actual K. Rool! Wiz Pig also actually felt like a threat and Bubbler kind of creeped me out as a kid in Diddy Kong Racing!
@@jiggylookback It has been awhile, but I'm pretty certain they disappear completely and you also get a couple melon slices out of them too. I think the musical instruments can also destroy them as well.
@@jiggylookbackthe Mecha Kremlings can only be defeated by orange grenades or the Super Slam (hold B after attacking to charge up, then release, must talk to the Banana Fairy Mom to unlock it, uses one Crystal Coconut per use).
@@jiggylookbackand furthermore, the Kochas, the tiny Kremlings with massive clubs, can ONLY be defeated by a Super Slam (as they will swat away any orange grenades thrown at them, and normal attacks can't work on them).
I'm surprised you didn't mention the ghost from the creepy castle minecart in dk64. The menacing green eyes, the spooky laughter, and the fact that appears out of nowhere scared the shit out of me as a kid.
3 things I wanna say 1. Great video as always. But I never really seen too many enemies in Rare games that scared me. The only remotely scary enemies in Rare games I can think of are the rock crocs in DKC 1, Kloak and Kackle in DKC 2, the skedar in Perfect Dark and the zombie squirrels in Conker's Bad Fur Day 2. With the 30th anniversary of DKC 1 coming up in November will you make a video commemorating it? 3. Haven't you noticed Rare must be fascinated with outer space? I assume this due to things like the Future Funland area in Diddy Kong Racing, the space and alien twist of Perfect Dark, games like Jet Force Gemini and Star Fox Adventures, the finale of Conker's BFD happening in spacecand an alien being the final boss plus all the future/space multiplayer games in Live & Reloaded
@@justinratcliffe947 I suppose they do have a fascination with space!! I didn’t have anything planned for DKC for November, but now with that knowledge I think I will!!
Sabrewolf is based on the Sabreman games from the ZX Spectrum back when RARE was originally known as Ultimate, especially in Knight Lore where Sabreman turns into a werewolf and he has navigate this castle dungeon in order to cure himself between Day and Night.
Well, I can say we do got our scary levels from the in 64 days and they’re all pretty great in their own way but I think the winner has to be creepy cast from DK 64 but it’s also tied with Mad monster mention from banjo Kazooie
Let's not forget that Microsoft only bought Rare because Nintendo laughed at Microsoft for trying to acquire them. The Xbox leaks last year show that Microsoft hasn't moved on from trying to buy Nintendo.
I can agree with kaboom to a degree. To me it’s the placement before they chase you. The way you see them in the distance in a kind of open area really gives me the creeps. Like, you see it, you know what it is but it just sits there. The real scariest enemy for me before getting over it a few years ago was army dillo. The first boss fight really had to be that dramatic in being dark with lightning strikes and explosions. Talk about sensory overload. Gave me literal panic attacks of any thought of it back then.
We're entering a weird territory, but Mickey - Kingdom Hearts - Pirates of the Caribbean AND Sea of Thieves - Pirates of the Carribean...There is some connection...I'm working it out.
It's funny how you said you can't kill the Robokremlings but knock them out but seconds before that, Chunky just killed one with the Primate Punch. Robokremlings can also be taken out with oranges lol
@@jiggylookback Nah if you kill them with an orange, shockwave, musical instrument, or a special move like the Primate Punch, the Robokremlinges does this extended death animation before falling over and dropping two melon slices. And they disappear right after. And other normal attack just temporary stuns them
Actually, you can kill the metal Kremlins. Either with Chunky's big punch attack, orange grenades, and instruments. You can kill Snacker by dropping eggs from behind on him, but he respawns fast.
I was honestly surprised that the Resident Demon did not appear for the Donkey Kong 64 enemy list. A ghostly kritter appearing as a Demonic Crocodile Skull and Hands that appears in the very spooky and heart racing mine-cart sections in Creepy Castle. He deeply terrified me as a kid. Especially with his ominous laughter and fiery skulls he summoned.
It has to be Mad Jack from DK 64. A giant Jack-in-the-Box resembling a demented cyborg crocodile with a Donald Duck on meth like voice and part of its paint job chipped off, revealing a glowing red eye. What'll really get to you is his introduction: he drops out of the reject chute. Think about it. King K. Rool's Frantic Factory puts out dangerous toys unsuitable for all ages. When health and safety are of no concern, it takes a very special effed upped toy to end up in the goddamn reject chute.
I was surprised King Cut Out made the list as a mention. As a kid, I found the voice hysterical. It always reminded me of a disgruntled employee making fun of their boss and the overdramatic screams which made it sound like an opera singer when getting hit only added to the humor more than anything. All I thought of back then was "I hope K. Rool doesn't find out you did this or you are a walking dead man". Honestly if anything, I actually felt let down that the boss of creepy castle was a piece of cardboard. It was a huge missed opportunity to not go all out on a good horror themed boss, but I still liked the fight either way. I was also about to say how was Kroc (Grant Kirkhope doing the voice of "Get Out") not an honorable mention for your pick there, but you did edit it in after the fact so all good. Although you saying that you don't see him is the same idea as Snacker being undefeatable. You can't beat either enemy and I argue that Kroc is scary just on the basis that the entire purpose of him is to pressure you to run away as fast as you can regardless if you can see him or not. The fact that you can't see the threat arguably makes it more intimidating rather than if you saw something intentionally chasing you since it is an unknown threat that is targeting you, but you don't know from where it's targeting you. If you don't run away fast enough, it's an insta-kill (even if you can cheese the entire thing by just doing exit level) and that alone honestly makes it terrifying. I already said it last video the scariest enemies for me were the bees in DK64 entirely because I have a real life phobia of them. Great video either way and looking forward to more. :)
@@jiggylookback Nope. I remember laughing at it all the time because I found the voice funny. However, it was because of that which resulted in me getting constant game overs since it became distracting when trying to actually beat the boss especially in the 3rd phase.
When i was a kid, the creature that made me really uncomfortable on d64 was the thingo outside levels with the banana count on it... Hope i explained that alright, something about it seriously freaked me out as a kid
Great video and that "GET OUT" voice really scared the shit out of me and I didn't get to that part of the game as a kid that scared me as an adult and that Crosshair makes it super scary one time I ran out of time I was sure I was going to die a horrible death in an instant but no it only took 1 HP but man was that build up scary and even the way I was attacked was a little scary but only 1 HP and the timer resets after all that build up? That's kind of redundant did the ESRB play that part when they gave it its rated E for everyone? Kind of like half of grunty's Secrets "do a striptease"? They are random so did the ESRB not get that when they rated it E for everyone? and snacker scares me too ever since Super Mario 64 underwater stages have been kind of scary (I'm not afraid of water in real life but if I lived through Super Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie I would be) your health draining no way to defend yourself really scary enemies partially due to the Primitive graphics and snacker is that and more due to the Jaws knockoff music I don't care that he only takes 1 HP he's still scary
Shoutout to the demon in the Creepy Castle minecart section of DK 64. Personally felt more like the boss of that level to me. Also, Snacker in Banjo Kazooie and the Zombies from Conker literally traumatized me as a child. (Yes I played Conker as a child lol)
The only games I played were Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo-Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64, and Banjo-Tooie. To be honest, none of them scared me as a kid. However, what scared me the most is the entire Frantic Factory level. The spooky music and the creepy toys that came to life to kill you !
As someone who holds DK64 near and dear to his heart, I have a counterpoint as to the relevance of Krosshair (the Get Out Guy) for the list. I'd argue that he is more frightening precisely BECAUSE of the fact he is never directly seen. When a child is given minimal information to go off of, their imagination runs wild, and that is exactly what happens when you hear the "GET OUT," and the reticle and timer make themselves known. It is because of how little we know about this character aside from their menacing warning usually given in an unsettling environment that makes them so frightening. Also, I feel disappointed that the Resident Demon from the Creepy Castle Mine Cart challenge wasn't even mentioned. That guy is the spooky scary highlight of every playthrough for me.
I’ve been hearing this about the Resident Demon, but I had him in my last video When Rareware became Scareware he was highlighted as the scariest moment. I just didn’t highlight him as a character in this one because I already mentioned him in my previous video.
I think in DK64, the scariest enemy is the cursor that says “Get Out!” I am also going to mention some of the other DK games. Diddy Kong Racing definitely the first Wizpig race. DKC: those indestructible kremlings that require you to hit the stop barrel DKC2: the grey barrel Kremling since it can steal your lives. DKC3: the blue fish in that one level that attacks you if you let it eat too many spiky clams.
Does the Twin Kremlin Duo from DKC3 that only appear in Krematoa counts? I'm not sure, those dudes always scared the crap out of me. Also that target shooter thingie in the factory spider level. Its alarm is really menacing
I know it’s Conker’s Bad Fur Day just riffing on horror clichés, but I have to agree: In execution, I found the zombies from the “Spooky” chapter genuinely creepy. I don’t know if it’s how they moved, the atmosphere or their sound design, but teenage me was genuinely creeped out by that whole cemetery sequence.
And the weird part was that it was actually Spooky, not Uga Buga, that was the true last bastion of Conker's innocence as a platformer. Even though Spooky had zombies, super powerful bats, a vampire lord that was your Great*6 Grandfather, and the most terrifying music Rare ever did; Spooky still had bright childish colors, which were purples, blues, greys, and greens. It's War was the true first world that everything got real for Conker, he even screams: "THIS ISN'T FUN ANYMORE!" and "GET ME THE HECK OUTTA HERE!", to imply this further.
I remember Gargos, I had to keep entering that cheat, just to play as that monster and that one stage that was a tiny platform from a cheat as well, where the character, could easily fall off, and start screaming.
To me, the Zingers in dk64 are the scariest. Those giant wasps actually gave me nightmares of them diving down to try and sting me. And even when I casually play the game, when they get so close to the screen I tend to scream in terror!
I dont know why, but the ghost Kremlings with the bed sheet on scared me as a kid 😂 part of it was that the ballroom has a bunch of them in there and the disembodied laughing in there I think added to that for me
Snapdragons in BT and re-deads in OoT were the only N64 enemies I was legitimately terrified off, to the point I’d wait to have friends over to clear out sections involving them. And that lasted Until I was like 14…
For me it was Snacker the shark. The music change, the under water being eerily immersive due to the shader, that shark being the only thing coming at Banjo Kazooie under water. They make dealing with Snacker the Shark a thing again in Rusty Bucket Bay. In that corner there is a hole in a wall under the water. You probably wouldn't see it unless you look around, but then you are being chased by Snacker the Shark, and you have less time under the water, because the Bay water takes double air...
The zombies from Conker's Bad Fur Day. I played through that game many times, but would quit as soon as I got to the Undead chapter. It's the noises they make, when it sounds like they're eating. That, and the mansion's theme. 😱
I've said it before but I love the eccentric, nostalgic, gleefully childish, cartoon fantasy world of N64 Rare Games. There's not really anything else like it.
Swellbelly prevented me from getting the Talon Torpedo for years. Swimming around down in Jolly Roger's Lagoon, I'd get jumpscared when they inflate right in front of me! Like I turn a round and a there's a big spiky fish balloon! And Blubbul and Inky weirded me out too! I haven't even encountered Whirlweed or the giant fish back then! Imagine how terrified I'd be if I got to see them at that age!
@@samandmrcheese Which means you were stopped in Jolly Roger's Lagoon, because the Talon Torpedo is required to access Wasteland, Quagmire, and the fifth World, TerryDactyland.

I think the Scariest Enemy in a Rare Game is Welder from Banjo-Tooie because I'm not a fan of Talking & Metal Animate Objects. They are so creepy and not fun to fight.
I realize he wasn’t an enemy, but Clanker in Banjo Kazooie terrified me as a kid. I would get as far as I could without having to see him before I went to Clanker’s Cavern.

@@warioland523 Resident Demon? You mean Kackle, right? Unlike Kloak, Kackle truly IS supernatural. Because of that, Kackle never really left after DKC2, he came back for vengeance in DK64 after Kremling Isle sank in DKC2.
K.rool was pretty scary in n64, he was goofy but actually showed serious cruelty. Mad jack was a crazy boss fight tho and by far the best.
Have you seen him in the Donkey Kong Show. They really made him Goofy in that. Using a barrel cannon to launch his underling into Cranky's house to nab the crystal coconut, lol.
A jiggy video uploaded on my birthday? That was a great gift, even if not intentional. xD
Those are all creepy enemies and I definitely think that’s a great list. I was definitely going to mention the, “GET OUT!” voice from DK64. I still get nightmares from that voice line. *shivers*
Also, snacker is definitely the scariest enemy in BK. I remember the first time I ran into that shark and I was freaked out for a long time and didn’t go into the water for a while.
Happy birthday!!! :)
It may not be an enemy in banjo kazooie, but the oily water in rusty bucket scares me every time I have to play that level.
Yeh agree

Zombie Jingaling definitely scared the crap out of me as a kid. Basically tormenting myself, visualizing him walking into my room in the dark😅😂
@@jaybarbie9538 that’d be terrifying.
Oh yes!!! I remember that one. I wasn’t afraid of spiders but I could see how that’d be scary!
For me it has to be Snacker from Banjo Kazooie, the shark from Treasure Trove Cove which made many little kids who grew up with the game terrified of going underwater, it doesn't help that he comes back in Rusty bucket bay
@@nickfielding7767 100% very scary
They didn’t scare me so much because they were predictable. If I had to say though…maybe the Clankers cavern ones were scarier.
@@Totavier No, you're correct, you WOULD fall to your doom (if a Big Clucker knocked you off from high enough), which was at its worst in the Summer.
Skeleton Grunty in Tooie scared me so badly as a child that I didn’t get any further than reading the instruction manual - her render in the story bit spooked me so much I refused to touch the cartridge until it was time for my family to return the rental 😂 great video as always!

I was scared by the vegetables when I was six years old in Banjo Kazooie. No, really! I don't know what was wrong with me.
@@3To3dSl0th wow really? I mean to each their own!
@@jiggylookback Yep! I think it was because they were just...regular vegetables with eyes, and they can actually hurt you. It was one of my first video games ever, after all. So I think it might have been actually the idea of getting hurt by enemies. Hearing Banjo yell out in pain.
The Tediz are scary because...well...you know what they're supposed to be...
The cutscene with them doing surgery on the squirrel was nightmare fuel, the uncut version is absolutely worse. I can see why it was one of the few cuts.
“Quick! Into character!”
@@benamisai-kham5892 yeah it’s horrible I watched it. Even for conker it was wayy too much
TERRIFYING
As soon as I got recommended this video, my first thought was Mad Jack.
@@mattb6522 they don’t disappear though if I remember right? Chunkys punch can also stun them. They’ll eventually just get back up.
Also Gruntida the Witch reminds me of the Witch from my #1 Favourite Movie of All Time, The Wizard of Oz.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the ghost from the creepy castle minecart in dk64. The menacing green eyes, the spooky laughter, and the fact that appears out of nowhere scared the shit out of me as a kid.
He’s in my rareware became scareware video! Didn’t feel the need to rehash since he wasn’t my scariest pick anyways
@@Darth555 Yep, Kackle with a vengeance.
3 things I wanna say
1. Great video as always. But I never really seen too many enemies in Rare games that scared me. The only remotely scary enemies in Rare games I can think of are the rock crocs in DKC 1, Kloak and Kackle in DKC 2, the skedar in Perfect Dark and the zombie squirrels in Conker's Bad Fur Day
@@jiggylookbackNovember 21 marks it's 30th anniversary

playing Banjo Kazooie as a kid, to me, was such a creepy game, i blame the music 👀
I’m with you. Both are top tier spooky levels!!
BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY!!
YEEEESSSSS!!!!! MY GUY!!!! 8:16 u included BOTH monsters yes dude!!!!! 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Naturally!! 😱
LET'S GOOOOO!! i've been scared of these weird lookin guys for so long, now i feel included 🥹
Love that Rare has slowly been giving to Nintendo again
Let's not forget that Microsoft only bought Rare because Nintendo laughed at Microsoft for trying to acquire them. The Xbox leaks last year show that Microsoft hasn't moved on from trying to buy Nintendo.
I thought Weldar from Banjo-Tooie was pretty spooky!
That “‘get out’ voice” is an unseen enemy called Kroc, which actually debuted in Donkey Kong Country 3.
Yes I’m aware. And it doesn’t have a physical body in DKC3 either right? Same thing basically. I talked about it more in my DK64 mysteries video
Gargos was a good call. That refusal to die makes him menacing
Gave me literal panic attacks of any thought of it back then.
if Mickey's Speedway makes Rare part of the Disney Universe, that means Banjo and Kazooie could be in Kingdom Hearts 4
Don’t they not disappear though and just get back up?
@@jiggylookback Nah if you kill them with an orange, shockwave, musical instrument, or a special move like the Primate Punch, the Robokremlinges does this extended death animation before falling over and dropping two melon slices. And they disappear right after. And other normal attack just temporary stuns them
@@zeospark9715 Oh ok! I misremembered my bad! Still freaky!
Actually, you can kill the metal Kremlins. Either with Chunky's big punch attack, orange grenades, and instruments.
You can kill Snacker by dropping eggs from behind on him, but he respawns fast.
Baron Samedi and his laugh actually scared me as a kid, had to mute the TV to play on the stage with him
I was honestly surprised that the Resident Demon did not appear for the Donkey Kong 64 enemy list. A ghostly kritter appearing as a Demonic Crocodile Skull and Hands that appears in the very spooky and heart racing mine-cart sections in Creepy Castle. He deeply terrified me as a kid. Especially with his ominous laughter and fiery skulls he summoned.
It’s in my last video when Rareware became scareware.
You weren’t afraid of the cutout? Man that thing terrified me lol
I think in DK64, the scariest enemy is the cursor that says “Get Out!”
I am also going to mention some of the other DK games.
Diddy Kong Racing definitely the first Wizpig race.
DKC: those indestructible kremlings that require you to hit the stop barrel
DKC2: the grey barrel Kremling since it can steal your lives.
Its alarm is really menacing
the get out voice was def the scariest for me hahaha yes i am commenting despite being told not to :P
They were scary for sure
I dont know why, but the ghost Kremlings with the bed sheet on scared me as a kid 😂 part of it was that the ballroom has a bunch of them in there and the disembodied laughing in there I think added to that for me
@@Yvs8962 it’s because they run at you with their arms up. MENACINGLY!!
Other scary enemies:
DK64: Toy soldier (Chunky miniboss in Frantic Factory), Ghost rider (DK's cart ride in Creepy Castle)
BK: Grille Chompa, Chump (the fish), Mum-mum,
BT: Minjos, Tintops
GoldenEye: Jaws, Baron Samedi

You forgot to mention the starfish in DK64! Those things were terrifying!

But DK64 "GET OUT" really creeped me out back in 1999.

The zombies from Conker's Bad Fur Day. I played through that game many times, but would quit as soon as I got to the Undead chapter. It's the noises they make, when it sounds like they're eating. That, and the mansion's theme. 😱

Snacker had me have ptsd in Banjo games seeing big bodies of water. The shark is especially scarier in Rusty Bucket Bay..
Resident Demon in DK64. Makes Mad Jack look innocent. And the Terminator Mumbo scared me as a kid.
