Lamborghini V10 oil pump failures - differences between 5.0 & 5.2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 чер 2024
- The oil pumps used in early 5.0-litre Gallardos are very different to the ones fitted to later 5.2-litre models.
In this video, we explain the differences and look at the components that can fail, leading to loss of oil pressure - not something you want with an expensive V10 engine!
With a new 5.2-litre oil pump unit costing around £3,800 from Lamborghini, it's not something you want to be replacing, which is why we offer an oil pump repair service for both models.

This channel deserves more subscribers, Rick’s knowledge is insane 🤯
Thank you
His passion for all things automotive is infectious, what an incredible young man and his team behind the set-up great to watch and wish them well.
Thank you very much for your kind comments. Glad you are enjoying the content.
Another extremely informative episode from a garage determined to go above and beyond with their love of cars. Well done and I love this team and the work they are doing. Some people have no class using the C-bomb just because they assume they know the presenter. Ignore those idiots, you are doing a fab job.
Thank you!
@@REPerformanceUK in the huracan v10 the transmission has a shaft that goes through the engine and to the front
I want to know if it passes all the way through the block or passes by the side of the block?
@@FirstLast-tx3yj the R8 has the same. It passes through the rear timing cover and lower girdle.
great vid, gives me more to worry about on the G, seriously, excellent video,
Another fascinating video, cheers guys, and Kate 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. 😊
Nice gloves !! Legend Ricky, great video keep up the great work.
Thank you!
Great video, perfect timing as I am about to strip out my RS6 V10 oil pump this week. Good to hear about the thermostat housing bolts snapping, I’ll phone the bank and remortgage the house 😂
Hahaha
you know your stuff great video 👍
Thank you!
This was spot on. great video
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it
@@REPerformanceUK I am currently replacing oil pump shaft seals on a v10.
Great episode
Thank you!
Do you order the replacement bits oem or as a kit from somewhere?
These videos are awesome resources for those of us handy enough to be dangerous who don't live close to any specialists. For the 5.0 pumps are there any best practices or preventative measures that can extend the time between rebuilds?
Thank you!
pump housing molded seals... with CMM and 3D scanning.. you could scan a few housing ends and have dies made to work with oring manufacturers equipment for customs. i wonder if you could slide a forshida seal on the input shaft to protect the inner seal like a slinger
All comes down to how popular they would be vs the cost to do it!
Hi when you do the rebuilds on the pumps. Do you put alloy bolts back in or replace with steel ones? Do to them snapping in the past
Yes we replace with better hardware, plus clean the threads properly and use lots of anti seize.
Can you put anti seize compound on those slider/joiners to keep them from corroding or siezing?
Yes but they are exposed to elements and the problem starts from new really
I'm building a v10 r8 engine here in Brazil. During the inspection before starting assembly, I noticed that the oil pump does not turn by hand. If I disassemble it halfway, it spins. It has many deeply scratched parts. That's probably what caused the breakage. This pump must rotate freely in the hand, correct?
9:36 Get the o rings drawn up/cad. Make some split mould fixtures up and make them yourself.. Another thing you could them add to the stock list 🧐.
Just time and money vs a once a year problem…..
on water pump bolts.. do you use Hylomar as an antiseize never hardening packing to stop the bolts from corroding in the housing holes.
We use anti seize yes!
Is it worth getting the joiners/couplers manufacturered that don't corrode?
If we did loads I probably would, but the development and manufacture cost outweighs it really.
The size of those pumps! Why does the scavenge side need to be double the size of the pressure side? Do the pumps need upgrading when you turbo the engines?
The scavenge has to empty the sump to keep the tank full, but also has aeration to content with so you normally find that side of the pump is bigger.
Hi Ricky what’s the cost of replacing the seals and servicing the oil pump on a 5.0 Gallardo?
Depends on what is wrong! I think we have been chatting in mail?
@@REPerformanceUK yes have forwarded our email chat to the dealer this morning. Hoping you’ll get a call from them this week to discuss.
-Sam.
i will be doing one next week. rs6 but near enough same setup
Great video, why haven't you got a gas heater in there must look after your staff lol
👍🏼
Engineers : How many fail points can you engineer into an oil pump ?
Lamborghini : Hold my beer
😂😂
how do you prevent on a 5.0?
I need to replace the shaft tube seal on my LP560, but do the engine have to come out like in the manual, or is it possible to do this job without taking out the engine?
The sharp tube seal? Do you mean for the oil pump drive?
@@REPerformanceUK Yes ☺️
@@espenlund1444 No, you can drop the oil pump off without removing the engine.
@@REPerformanceUK Nice, thanks! But what do I do if the aluminum bolts snap like you mention? 😅 With my luck and a car that has seen some norwegian salty roads I guess they all will snap 😂 It is impossible to get to all the oil pump bolts without disassemble the thermostat housing and water pump housing?
I may be wrong, that is not corrosion , it is caused by fretting a micro vibration caused by gears
And spline shafts would wear out , using anti fretting grease will help to fix the spline wear, brown stuff is ferrous dust
It may be that too, but the corrosion build up on the shafts is pretty bad, could be the parts then fretting in the corrosion just wears it away.
What lovely signs
👍🏼
Which version do you think is better? The 5.0 version or the new 5.2?
Pump or engine?
@@REPerformanceUK How about both? Which engine do you like better and which oil pump system do you like better?
All I wanna know is the 5.2 do the cats in
Is there a right gallardo I can buy with history and sounds good without worrying there’s doom around the corner
No 5.2 cats are fine!!
Yes you need heating,And that must be the slowest car lift in the world.
Hahah they aren’t that slow!
Wy did you not shoot the video when, There was no one working? But l really like the Videos,Keep up the good work.
Why would he go into his workshop out of hours just to film a video? He has a life also
Where’s the fun or realism in that? We are a supercar workshop not a film studio! 👍🏼
Machine a replacement for that coupler out of 316L stainless. Material is so often ignored by automakers.
If we did more I probably would but the development and manufacture cost just outweighs the need.
@@REPerformanceUK I have a recently acquired 2003 Arnage with 14,800 miles on it where the previous owner split the front underbody cover. A shop in New York has it to scan and print. If those sleeves are easily purchased, I'd at least have them nitro-carburized. I would think volume is a major issue for you.
Why would they use aluminium bolts? Seems silly, but is there an engineering reason? cheers
Weight is the main reason. Don’t need the torque yield like a steel bolt offers so don’t carry the weight….
@REPerformanceUK Just one coffee would weigh more than that saved by using aluminium bolts. Stupidity.
The pump in the 5.0 only has 1 scavenge stage. This is not going to work well with blow-by gasses mixed with oil. Any proper dry-sump pump should have multiple scavenge stages like the newer 5.2, or any other proper designed engine with dry-sump.
It works well enough for the application, but yes but design standards now is out dated.
Maybe the best channel on UA-cam. Besides mine of course haha
Thank you
I think you need to rebuild the pump on that lift. It moving slow like it had a truck on it.
Hahahahaha they are just bloody noisy! 😂
No worries. Your shop make my shop feel jealous to some extent. Only thing working on so many VW products would make me curse every day lol.
see this bolt?you damage it,thats it whole new car needed.
😂😂
The V10 5.2 engine is produced by Audi but if is 5.0 produced by Lambo.
How is he arrogant dudes about as nice as u could be lol people just love to hate people that they wish they were I swear.
Thank you!
Is that a Nelk shirt?
Nelk?
Does Karl ever not wear shorts! Lol.
I say the same thing lol
Busy
Get some infra-red heaters 👍
Exactly what I was going to recommend, the panels hanging from the ceiling 👍👍
We are planning to!
Your knowledge is only annoying to others, as they know you are showing the corners they cut, and thier lack of detail they should use to do a good job.
Where the fuck did someone get arrogance from in any of your videos 😅
🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️😂
