I remember my dad walking into my room and asking me why his Whatsapp messages weren't working and I did the usual (restart app / switch off wifi and turn it on / restart phone / etc). When everything didn't work I started my phone and checked my Whatsapp and wouldn't you know it, it was stuck at connecting. So since it was night, I told my dad that the service was prolly done and we'll check on it again tmrw. And the next day it was back to normal.
SAME😂 he thought it was his mobile data that was bugging out so he asked for my hotspot and same thing.

Monday was a crazy day when FB was down for a while. Thanks for this explanation. My wife who uses FB alot texted me thinking it was a problem with our internet or router. Turns out it was only FB and Messenger. We definitely experienced this!

The best dunk I saw, was someone saying that the real tragedy is all of the people who were trapped in their VR since they were in there when FB went down.
In SRE speak, we talk about system availability. If you aim for 5 9s (99.999%) uptime; that leaves you with 5 minutes, 16 seconds of outage time for an entire YEAR! Just to put this outage in perspective!

This just shows you, why would you put all your eggs in one basket? I.E. why would you want to be tethered to Meta's virtual Metaverse when it finally comes out? They'll be so many other competitor Metaverse sites and FB/Meta will find itself in a position that MySpace was in when they started to dominate social media. Point I'm trying to make, FB/Meta is a company that want to control you, and will if you use their products. Thankfully I stopped using or not used at all (WhatsApp - don't even know what that is really) so when "FB" went down, I wasn't affected in the least.
