Marques acting like he doesn’t already have the new Pros in studio when he recorded this lol
So true hahaha
Marques actually gave the MBP a tacit recommendation in the comments section on his first video. “You’ll be fine m8” is what he said to someone who was wondering if this was an impulse buy that they would regret later.
So i've been using this for a week and here is my view ;)
@@iMaajid I think just on paper the new MBPs are really good so the answer to get one or not is clear
Exactly my thoughts. I came here to comment and saw that you already mentioned it.
Apple devs are making the funniest inside joke with the polishing cloth
LOL true!
I guess they have a bet for how many people will buy it and to check it they landed it in the apple shop 😂
I actually would rather have the polishing cloth than so many of apples newer products lmao. I had an M1 13” that I returned for these new pros and the fingerprints that get on the screen are SO HARD to get rid of. Unless you use alcohol and cotton, they don’t go anywhere,
They are not joking. They are making big money.
13:31 Andrew talks about “what peeves him” about the notch. Clearly he’s been using it already. 😏
That sounds like insight that can only come from someone who is getting hands on with the device already. Hope to see a MKBHD video about this very soon then!
Yeah the embargo ends on 25 for airpods and mac
Yup. Also info about how much pixels under notch. You can totally get it from keynote 😀
Lmao he definitely already has it . the embargo ends on 25tg
@@tanishkarnik8892 yeah, but it at least pretend you don’t have that kind of familiarity since you’re not supposed to talk about it😂🤣
When they talked about the notch it was so funny seeing a brick of a notch on the screen LOL
Yes, and later on also a menu bar.
I didn't notice it because I was punched in 🤣
I didn't notice until I saw this comment
Lol, I was surprised for a bit to see notch on horizontal mode too
Bro, literally the first thing I thought and immediately jumped to comments to see this.😂
Great acting Marques. We all know you've had the new 2021 MacBook Pro models for "About a week now". 😆
You know that’s false right. Macs don’t have embargoes, even with the iPhone he only opened the box just a few days before the event so idk man don’t spread false info….
@@Mr.Mercury_ ... Yes... Yes they do. Embargo lifts Monday. 😉
@@Mr.Mercury_ the other comments pointing out their insight on things like the notch and mentioning how it sounds like commentary you'd only come by from using the device sound fairly convincing. It's also just a meme, but it generally is true that Marques gets products early, is it not? It's completely reasonable to assume that Marques has the new MacBooks and has been using them for a few days and he'll have a video out on the day of or the day after they become available to the public.
@@00SNIVY00 he will have a video tomorrow, the say of the embargo lifting. Why is he tired? Because he has tested and recorded like mad.
Finally someone mentions the braided charging cable. That’s one of the things I’m really excited for.
Like the ones that came with the new iMacs? Hell yeah!
That is also detachable. I bought 3 chargers in 6 years just because the cable was destroyed
12:09 When did you guys add a notch to the video OMG your editors actually boiled frog me 😂😂
I didn't even notice they put it in until I read your comment LOL
Hahahahhaha I didn't notice it the first time 😂
Yh it also late so I didn't notice
The old MagSafe cable and brick were a single unit.
What was separate was the AC extension cord connecting to the brick.
SDXC UHS II, HDMI 2.0.
NIT NIT NIT. (Some more NITs you can pick.)
All my co-workers use Macs, it's been interesting to hear them completely change their tune with the touchbar and ports now that the new one will be like it was before.
It has ports
@@The_MEMEphis I done goofed, meant to say now that it's back to how it was before. I'll edit it but leave this reply.
@@lirfrank cool cool I kinda figured
Copium hits hard
Honestly since switching all my devices to USB C over the last few years, going from 4 to 3 Thunderbolt ports will take some getting used to but it's a small price to pay for all the other benefits. I don't care one way or the other about the touch bar, I've customized mine with 3rd party tools and made it useful for myself but it's not a necessity. I have the 16" i9 though, so I won't be needing to upgrade for a while.
5:03, the old brick did not have a separate MagSafe cable. It was permanently attached. The other side could be swapped for a wall plug or extension cable.
Exactly, this guy is an idiot and Marques was just being polite.
Idk how old he is, but if he was in the uni at around 2016, that's when the USB-C chargers came. These can be detached from the charger brick :)
@@RiderInRed right, but not with MagSafe. MagSafe had widespread problems with the attached cable on both sides. Guess he was unlucky with USB-C.
@@RiderInRed we’re talking about MagSafe chargers not USB C
@@PanChod-ct7ou ah fair point. I thought he meant the previous chargers in general :)
The cloth is already sold out! 😂
MKHD looks like he just got off the Olympic podium.
I still have my mid-2012 MacBook Pro. Have been using it to edit since 2013. All I can say is, welcome back. I knew you’d return!
Only Apple users would still be putting up with a computer that's nearly a decade old. No way it's pleasurable.
@@bradavon why? Because it still gets the job done?
@@bradavon You've never used a MacBook, have you?
@@bradavon These things fucking last forever. I’ve still got a couple laying around that get used regularly. The only thing that sucks is the old CPU but a decade later it’s still fine for documents and web browsing which is all it needs to be used for. Already can’t say the same for other PC laptops I’ve had from that era (even newer ones).
Loving the discussion and the great audio. Funny Marques fell asleep and twitching as he wakes up. Lol!!!
Seeing Marques sleep at the end just made me appreciate even more all the hard work that goes into all these videos. Appreciate you guys 💪🏾
The thing around the Notch ist interesting. Imagine other people standing behind you and your MacBook unlocks. That's why you need to swipe up on iPhone - it probably would be "enter" on mac, but if you're pressing a button, you could just press the touch id one.
But there is no face id on the new macbooks
Can’t disagree
I'd see opening the lid as "pressing the button". When you open it, you expect it to unlock, as much as by pressing the TouchID button.
@@konrad7592 I mostly keep my MacBook opened ;)
Am maybe check behind you first then? lol! Like what's the difference between checking before you pull up you phone (or open your laptop lid or turn it on) or after it unlocks to that unlocked screen?? Also, if you didn't notice that someone was standing behind you or simply failed to check before you pulled up your phone or open your laptop lid, why would you suddenly remember to check or become aware of the that person 1-2 sec later when you swipe up to get into the phone?? Sorry, but your comment makes absolutely no sense. Especially not, since there's absolutely no sensitive info about you on your home screen. Well, unless you're dumb enough to have a photo of your bank balance or yourself naked as backdrop, lol!
Also.. No, absolutely no, that's not why you get to the unlocked screen or whatever it's called. It's because Apple wants to condition you regarding how a smartphone should look, feel and operate. All to make you dislike the unfamiliar and weird feeling of unlocking an Android phone, after years of iPhone usage. You know, if you ever would get the idea, to maybe switch. Because if every iPhone model is like this, and you buy and use two or three in a row during a number of years without switching to Android, most people will be quite annoyed at least the first week or two at a minimum, when they try an Android after all those years of iPhone. And most won't try it for more than a half an hour in some store, before they decide. And thus, they are going to feel the most uncomfortable possible about the change and so, probably just buy another iPhone. Yes, Apple is one of the most sinister and worst when it comes to customer manipulation. You'd be surprised how fooled we all are on a daily. And obviously not just by Apple. But like I said, they are by far one of the absolute worst.
Everybody know that they actually have the macbooks except them
Great acting skill👍
Nice subtle touch putting a notch on the vid when you started talking about the notch 🙌
Never seen this creative editing on a podcast
Editing the video with webcam layout was sick.... Almost gave a feel like watching it ln on a laptop for a second 😂... Good job 👏
That would be lit, we would be getting more 8k content from marques and would be moving towards 8k stuff! I remember watching in 1080p a couple years ago and thinking whoa that’s sick
But now we’re at 4K and 8k dude
8k monitors still arent at a price that suits the consumer market but yea it's cool it exists
@@Hyunation understandably so though, most consumers aren’t gonna be using that anyways.
If you are Homo sapien you wont notice any difference at all between 4k and 8k, 8k is just dumb
@@a6am3mn0n Currently 8k is the only standardized resolution format that allows monitors with bigger sizes like 25-32inches to achieve a pixel density comparable to your phone, so when it comes to things like productivity its not too crazy. The idea is to not see pixels at all
UA-cam needs to support Dolby first
The full-size HDMI would probably be more useful in the more portable lower end Macs that are more likely to be used for conference room presentations.
I find hdmi useful for multiple display use
Yeah or just one more USB C… at least they support hdmi2.1 👌
I like sd card slot but not hdmi when it takes a usb c port away !
I think they might get it in a new update. So an updated MB Air with the new design…
This clearly sounds like a pro use case to me. A conference room is part of an office and I suspect professionals work there, right? Pros should use pro devices, especially if they even express this from their brand name!
@@jpawlowski I don’t think the average office worker/manager/ spreadsheet wizard would make any meaningful concessions if they used a base model MacBook Air vs a base model 14“ Macbook Pro, aside from maybe storage and needing a 7-in-1 dongle for variety of ports.
Imagine getting an error on your iPhone while cleaning : This Cloth is Not Compatible with this device 😱😱😱😱
Cause it's not integrated in Apple Ecosystem 😂😂😂
I absolutely love the visual explanation of the notch 🤩🙌🙏
Adding that notch in the video was a super cool touch.
I think the new design team is really talking to the old design team when they said “ Pros appreciate the flexibility of multiple ports” lol
I really like how they added the camera quiely, then the top bar, then the bottom bar and then just went full screen again
Tech people:
120hz on an iPhone: 😁👏🏻
120hz on a MacBook: 😒👍
Yes! It makes much more of a difference on a bigger screen.
It’s not like the promotion will help much anywhere(a bit in battery life and general use), unless gaming was brought to macOS
@@siddharthagupta8528 Nahh for me it’s all about the user experience with those smooth animations / scrolling etc and as you said those battery gains for long study sessions.
@@asterisbampos5869 Yeah but imagine how amazing a specced out macbook m1 max would be for gaming ... solid gpu, great cpu, fast ram, unified architecture, promotion, and mini-led for more visual games ... all while being way thinner and quieter than most gaming laptops ... hopefully that could be achieved through Parallels
I saw first video of this channel. This trend from Unbox Therapy is really spreading and i am honestly very happy about it
ATP guys talked about it, there’s this concept in design where when you have say Notch and Menu bar aligned perfectly it might looks weird, rather when you actually have a bit of a gap like you do now. So it’s definitely intentional and I think they’ve done the right thing
Lmao, that editing. Thank you for adding a notch to my Thunderbolt display. ^^
I like the little touch you guys did by implementing a Notch into this video. Not sure of people noticed the extra perk? lol
lmfao at the notch in the video
I love Marques' creative ending on this video! Its really cool to hear the detailed breakdown of the new features in these new M1X MacBooks
*M1 PRO/M1 MAX
@@sammyjammy6647 Thanks for correcting the SOC for me.
Hahaha loved the ending
Lol! Loved how when talking about the notch of the M1 MacBook Pro a notch appeared on the top of the video!
I have completely full menu bar in my Air from the first week. So I have no problem with the notch. I think it’s a big plus.
Hollywood standard at the ending @MKBHD, my nigga you had me floored🤣💪🏾
Wait but they didn't talk about editing 8k..?
Love everything Marques! I love excellence))
The HDMI is actually 2.0. Since I'm a student learning Computer Science, I don't really need any ports, I just use USB-C. I was hoping for a 12 core CPU but still pretty happy.
Marques heard that boiling frog metaphor from Destin( Smarter Everyday)😂
need a gaming review on that thing
"This camera this camera" reminds me of Hot Ones dude. I love it!
Lost it during the notch talk, took me a second to notice what was going on
It’s worth noting that Windows Hello does not use a webcam, it uses an IR sensor.
You can *definitely* fill up the menu bar on a Mac Display. It isn't anywhere near as bad as on a cellphone, and many users won't see it happen to them, but it's definitely doable.
I use Bartender 4 for the clean look, my bar would be cramped without it.
I like how they put the notch in the video for a bit
I could argue that menu bar that is a little taller than the notch already looks good, because it doesn’t break the menu bar into left bar and right bar, and that is bad because sometimes the menus can overflow from left to right (like that image of davinci resolve they showed)
So, can Marques actually edit 8K on a MacBook Pro? Guess we'll never know
“It’s still techtober isn’t it”
“Let’s goooooo”
Well, I've managed to edit Blackmagic RAW 12K footage on my 2019 MBP, so It depends on the format/codec I expect.
Exactly. Redcode is not a very efficient codec at all, BRAW is far more optimised
@Kevwe Patani And that would run like crazy on the M1 Max MacBook Pro.
HDMI is 2.0 but it's still good to have. Ofc it's weird not having latest greatest in $2k device but yeah, Apple
It's called the Lobster Effect, boiling a lobster. Good show!
I liked touch bar and I never used function bar, but both are inconsequential to me as long as they do their job properly, I feel Apple never really commited to touchbar
Did somebody else noticed the notch when they were talking about the notch? 😂😂😂
3:11
And then the one more thing of the November event :
Mac mini with M1 Pro or Max with design change and full port (even SD Card) it would be awesome
There presumably won’t be a November event.
The notch at the top of this video caught me by surprise!
The biggest takeaway from this video is I got to see what Marques looks like in low-power mode.
Lol imagine the cleaning cloth scratches your iPhone 5 screen somehow and you call Apple about it and it turns out they aren’t responsible cause it’s not compatible😂😂😂
The notch in this video had such a screen door effecr to me. I couldn't unsee it😔
When the notch came up I thought my phone had some issue 🤣😅
Since John Ive left Apple, all their product are not only moving around “appearance “ but also functionality. That is why we get iPhones with bigger batteries, macbooks with all these ports, etc.
The new mackbook pro looks super ugly though from the outside. Design is a bit off to me and can’t get a liking to it. If I’m honest…
@@shangrammohammad8453 I will choose functionality over appearance if i had to. Looks like Apple needs to do the same thing, as its very difficult to have both. But i believe that in person these MacBooks will be just fine, even the notch.
@@shangrammohammad8453 It doesn't look that ugly tbh, feels like a bit exaggerated.
@@shangrammohammad8453 I just don't like the notch. Sticks out like a sore thumb
Love mkb top man
Ending clip must feature in every video !! OMG
it is hdmi 2.0. you can see the sspecs in the macs specificati0ons saying that it supports up to 4k@60 hz
I didn't even notice that notch in the video🤣
I think that having a little bit of transparent color between the notch and you wallpaper is exactly from a design standpoint because it just makes it blend better and the contrast is not that drastic.🤔
The reason that there are 4 pixels under the notch is because it’s also like that on the iPhone. The navigation bar on iOS is also slightly taller than the notch on the iPhone.
2016: Apple removing the ports is bold and future proof.
2021: Apple destroyed the laptop in 2016.
Crazy right?
I mean, 2016-2020 MacBooks *are* pretty future-proof in terms of port connectivity. They're just a pain if you use HDMI or SD cards semi-regularly.
it was pretty great for the time, just not enough thunderbolt ports. HDMI was pretty unnecessary imo
Oh I have been biding my time hoping for them to get over that post 2016 phase ever since it started.
isheeps in a nutshell.....
They turned the Touch Bar into a notch, is that what you wanted?
Sort of a reference to Marques’ line in UA-cam rewind lol
Little Sean Evans nod there at the end, love it
What happens when you use a MagSafe for charging and the USB C at the same time for charging?
Just a note: windows hello is more than a webcam. It actually works closer to how FaceID does. And you can even occlude the webcam and it will still work causes it uses the IR sensor, at least on surface devices.
A Frog Always Jumps😂 09:15
😂😂 you guys added a notch
I still don’t understand how function keys are better than the touchbar. They say developers prefer function keys, but I’m a developer, and my colleagues are developers. We love the touchbar. There’s so many different shortcuts you need to remember for IDEs, but having the touchbar, made it much easier to access shortcuts.
I think they made the menu bar go a bit lower under the notch to make the notch look smaller
8K … Not even mentioned. Very good production, thanks.
A simple question Marques. For someone who is a new professional photographer and hasn't ventured into editing video yet would the baseline 14" MacBook Pro have all I would need to use Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, and Topaz software efficiently? Thanks your videos are always right on point!
Is Dbrand releasing your Icon skins again? Call em... you're the plug!
Takes me back to the office when I woke up at my desk and thought "did I go to sleep, did anyone notice why does my screen beep, why is it showing dooooooooooooo, Oh my god time to retire😨!
I think the Touch Bar was great and I'm sad to see it go. It was very useful for skipping ads and initiating the minimised videoplayer on UA-cam.
i imagine the 4pixels under notch thing is for the looks. It feels more a continuous bar like before...
I think those 4 pixels under the notch would be handy to indicate if the cursors there. That’s how I’d designed it anyways
I’d say the bigger menu bar is so it matches de mini led dimming Zones and making the entire top bar true black
Hmmmm, might be the best explanation
But the menu bar isn’t black? Even in dark mode ots transparent and shows a bit of the wallpaper.
@@MrVoonix but when full screen all of it goes black to hide the notch like it’s a bezel
All the audio guys are like, 'so it took you 10 years to realise you just needed better audio'
You know what is funny, them removing the apple logo for me from Marques laptop
I loved the touchbar
I didn’t notice the notch until they talked about the menu bar and the notch size. So i don’t think I’ll even care about it
I can officially confirm, my t-shirt is compatible with every iPhone out there.
That the status bar is a tiny bit longer than the notch most likely has some visual reasons. They want you to see that it's still one single bar and that the notch is not a spacer between two separate bars. Just like they did on the iPhones for example.
And it probably would look worse if it's flush.
I love the shallow keyboards! They’re so efficient. Instant gratification.
I could type pretty fast on them :p
It was never separate from the brick.
Smarter Everyday reference there
I hope the SD card slot takes the whole SD card, unlike the last time. Having half a card hanging outside the laptop was annoying.
Getting your sd card stuck is also annoying lol
@@joeldiramon8538 it doesn't get stuck in the laptops that take the whole sd card
The way it can click in and out is better but the mechanism being moving parts can break over time so it’s technically better to have it sticking out
I just hope they don’t get issues with dirt as easily.
Macbook pro
not a cheap whore
just the tip
Menu bar pixels off gonna frustrate me too. No reason for notch, flip it up out of the way and get even more screen
Windows face ID is secure too.. it uses the IR cameras as well similar to iPhone...
Perhaps the micro fiber cloth only “supports” supported devices? Not the ones for which the support has been discontinued? I mean why would they list devices anywhere if the support has been discontinued.
LOL again with the animal references
