To be honest, I can go for years without using Twitter and be perfectly fine.. can't say the same about UA-cam..the only place I can find lots of useful videos
LoL. I can go forever without using any of these ...
Until they all become shorts and You Tube punishes you for long format or content it just doesn't like.
UA-cam is king... a video experience is so much more. Even the kids like it with crazy things going around like Tik Tok
I have gone for years without using Twitter. I plan on going for a few more years without using Twitter.
@@krishnavashu yet here you are.
Tech influencers like Twitter WAY more than regular people.
That's because tech Twitter isn't as toxic.
Edit: I mean amongst Tech content creators, they generally lift each other up and there's rarely drama.
Also, I didn't say it's not toxic, I said it isn't as toxic.
The only thing I remember is some stuff with Hardware Unboxed and JaysTwoCents.
Edit 2: people here are accusing me of lying when I just stated that tech Twitter isn't as toxic as Twitter (as a whole). I didn't say it's not toxic, some people need to work on their reading comprehension. The only example people have brought up in the comments is iPhone v Android and that's nothing compared to other parts of Twitter. It's funny as well people are saying that's my opinion because I'm a part of tech Twitter, others are saying I've not spent more than an hour on it lmao
@@HyperGadgets lol good joke
@@HyperGadgets rightttt, if you think it itsnt toxic is because you are part of it

Year and a half later... It's worse than ever
For me Twitter is useless. I can live my everyday life without it, even Facebook. My stress level literally dropped from not using those socially engineered apps. It's good for your mental health.
Couldn’t agree more
I don't use any of that two and same.
i also uninstalled facebook, twitter, reddit, instagram ,now i spend freetime with my friends , they also did same .
@Sonna plays you'll reach that point 😂 if symptoms persist consult your timeline and tweets. lmao.
Twitter is cancer literally designed to dumb down conversations and polarize people i hope it goes down
I remember when Twitter first started it was a way to connect to famous people, but as the years have gone by, i realized famous people don’t really have anything interesting to say, and their followers are mostly idolizing them.
1000% the more celebrities have become “reachable,” the less I give a crap about what they’re doing and what they have to say.
And so many of them have outed themselves as complete morons.
You described Elon Musk
Plus half of them don't even run their own Twitter and hire some social media marketing company.
@@topspot4834 Bingo, there are a few Twitter addicts out there like Elon but moat of the time it's just a manager posting sanitized self promotion.
I don't think Twitter should focus on video content and more creator tools, that's not the reason people use Twitter. It's is still primarily a text-based platform, for information and opinions. To this end, I think it would be helpful to have more tools to customize your timeline. My timeline is getting increasingly bloated by retweets, following people that reply too often to each other, self-promotion and advertisements. Giving the user more options when following a new user would be helpful, things like: "follow, but skip retweets", "mute all conversations between user X and user Y", "set limit to number of tweets shown by user X", "only show tweets of user X that get more than 10 likes", "skip tweets that have less than 10 characters", and so on.
Twitter should become TwitTok.
Correct. No one wants Twitter to try and be UA-cam.
"follow, but skip retweets" ... Mastodon has this, just saying. And anyone can add to the code and improve it.
Anyway, I agree with the point. Twitter isn't UA-cam and vice-versa. I actually initially loved Twitter because of the snips of text that didn't take time to read while getting the point across, in contrast to Facebook where it was the opposite. We should(or Elon should) in my opinion work on improving those fundamentals. I'm okay with something like better tipping system for Tweets. Brave is there but no one uses it for some reason.
You can turn off retweets though on people you follow. It's been there for long time.
Or even how, when and what part of the page you want to see ads on. Target the ads to the people in a way they've agreed on and won't feel annoyed by
I love how musk really took his promise seriously and took it backwards.
2 years later, its "x premium"
I watch youtube every day. Its educating, entertaining, and inspiring. This channel included. Twitter is the exact opposite of that. It's so negative that even people I agree with sound awful.
Worse, it's been taken over by someone who subscribes to a political ideology that sees their opponents as "the enemy". What a great way to spend your free time, getting assaulted by right wing nut jobs. Yay.
LOL, well said, never thought about it like that.
I feel the same way. I dont see the platform thriving. I dislike musk and I already don't get that much enjoyment out of the app pre musk buyout.
It’s the best way to get news fast. Sporting events. Stock market. Business. Politics. Lots of good niches on Twitter if you’re into live action news.
yup. it's not worth paying.
Pay for an individual creator? Maybe.....but to do that, logging on and commenting have to be free, and it has to be G rated environment, no hate speech or inciting violence etc. Advertising is what would provide funding to pay creators. If you don't have that, you can't pay them. If you expect ALL users to pay, then the service will shrink to 10% of the users it had before.
This video illustrates my biggest problem with social media: over time the social aspect of the medium becomes less of a priority. The first step in his plan is monetization tools. Nothing related to the user experience.
First goal of a company is to make money.
You'd be shitting your pants too if you just paid 44.000.000.000.
@@Dheal Yeah.. Not for social media. Even from a business side, their strategy was always get the audience first and the money later and now they're realizing you can't have both. Twitter should've follow Wikipedia's model as a nonprofit and get donations to support the service because it was never going to be profitable.
@@Dheal and to make money a social media needs users. Lots of users. And their experience on the platform have to be good to keep them using it. How many millions of blue marks does Twitter needs to start to be profitable?
That's the crux of capitalism
This video brought more clarity on this topic than the hundreds of articles and tweets I have read lately! Brilliant 👏🏼
My favorite thing about UA-cam is the fact that it has taught us to realize that there are self-made experts, and that's ok. Someone like MKBHD isn't a college professor, or a traditional celebrity, he hasn't written textbooks, but we alllllll know he is right, let's hope they listen.
The entire way of how we do expertise as a society is wrong. How do you really become an expert in something? By getting a diploma in it? No, it's by having a genuine strong interest in something and consuming a lot of content about it and thinking about everything you've consumed. I know so many people that got a diploma in something they're not that interested in but just grinding their way through a major. Someone who is really smart and has a genuine strong interest is always going to be better at it because they don't just do it to get a diploma or some official letters next to their name by doing the least amount possible for that to happen. For example, a friend of mine once hired a summer intern web developer who was 17 and in high school. Said he was the best developer he's ever hired because the kid was genuinely interested in programming and doing it since he was 6.
hes really just an enthusiast not really an expert.
@@JamieA242 You cannot tell me that someone with 16.3 million subscribers as a tech channel isn't a social media and tech expert. That doesn't mean he is an expert on all tech at all levels, but for his niche he is an expert.
It's very unfortunate that after all this time he still does not realise that musk is a conman and he is actually trying to help that pos! Let twitter die! Don't help the criminal!
Both billionaires Musk and Bezos have reached their late fifties. And after a life filled with sin, deceit, and exploiting others like the products their mega-companies manufacture, they’ve realized a grave truth. After decades of accumulating wealth through cold calculations, and forming the proverbial global hoard of gold that they’re sitting on, a worrying concern has finally entered their minds.
‘What now? After all that fame, glory, and wealth, what’s next? And the answer is death
Obviously, you're a content creator, and this was a very creator-centric video.
But I feel the problem is that Twitter has never really been about content creation. As you said, the cool thing about it is the ability to reach out and interact with anyone, people you'd normally never have that chance with.
If Twitter becomes about content creation, it'll becomea very different beast, which is what you said you didn't want.
Any Writing material including your thoughts, opinions or whatever is a content itself 🥸 what are you talking about?
It wasn't video centric but since video is the king ..They're focusing on the video now
Honestly there is something to be said for the Mastodon model being the best way to preserve that original spirit of Twitter.
Being open source and resilient it aligns twitter/Mastodon more with something like an image board than with a social media platform.
Open to interpretation if that is a good thing
I agree with you! While I agree with MKBHD's broader points, there has to be a balance between monetisation and content creation. Twitter is very democratic platform and has its own uniqueness, it'll be a shame if it changes too much.
I get a lot of value out of UA-cam and I’m not a content creator. I’m a consumer. How can Twitter serve me? I like the idea of reaching out and touching all Twitter users. How about other ways of doing that other than likes? Like tips? Add the ability to tip a tweet that you like. As for content creator tools, how about tools to better manage interacting with replies? I’m not a popular Tweeter, so I don’t know what it looks like to get hundreds of replies to my tweets, but if I did, is it easy to see what replies I have seen and which ones I haven’t? Is it easy to run through all your replies to read them all? How about replies of replies of replies? Sometimes I read tweets under a popular tweet and get lost in the threads. This has always been a problem for me and made it difficult for me to understand how to use Twitter.
The way he describe it sounds like what Facebook is already doing. Social media platform that lets you monetize your videos
One week later, Elon buys MKBHD 😂
He already did. And it didn't cost him a dime...
And fires Marques 🙄

Omg bro 😭
@Meherab 03 you can click Emojis and select custom emojis but you need to pay money for this channel to get that.
I so very rarely look at Twitter. 90% of the time I don't even have the app on my devices.
Thank you for this awesome video of your honest and thoughtful ideas & comparative analysis on how to make Twitter better.
Especially regarding the subscription feature.
That ending was strong. "Posting this 10 minute video on Twitter will cost me $8 a month, while posting this video on UA-cam will make me money"
It shows the perspective goal how each platform treats its creators
It is free to post…my god
Well, he’s not really logical in that reasoning. Might cost him $8 to post it, but he’ll still make at least a couple grand off monetization on Twitter.
Pay $8 for the ability to make thousands, seems like a decent deal to me.
IMO, this all depends on if Twitter can acquire/re-acquire advertisers. Many advertisers are banding together with the left and “removing twitters way to make money.” Really don’t want to bring politics into this; Twitter honestly hasn’t changed at all *so far* since Elons acquisition. Not sure why advertisers are pulling ads and some *celebrities* are leaving the platform. Twitter was wildly successful/popular 5+ years ago, before all the “censorship” and such. More discussions, more learning, more entertainment, etc. Elon taking Twitter back to the “good ol’ days” might be a good thing.
But we have to wait and see what happens/ what he does.
Edit: when I say “wildly successful,” it seemed that way to me. Just about all my friends were on it, my school used it for announcements over weekends, even my parents made accounts, etc. I only knew a handful of people not on Twitter; but now days, most my friends aren’t on Twitter. But a few have came back since Elons acquisition. And not to bring politics into this, we are all over the board on beliefs in politics/ideology.
Cost him 8 dollars a month… which he can use as a tax write off.
@@lukaszklopotek most people won’t pay for that
Marques is so level headed and well spoken. I still can’t wrap my head around how he made this without badmouthing Elon while still criticizing the take over and providing good feedback for the platform.
Because he's trying hard to say the right things as he's desperate to see society go in the direction he wants it to, and therefor is trying not to piss off Elon's army of fanboys. However, where he fails is by not calling out twitter for being the manipulative and destructive force of propaganda they have been for many years now, both corrupting and controlling much of the culture. Of course he wants to see the platform succeed, because it's given such immense power to people who conform to certain views, him being one of them. He's worried he'll lose much of that power now, just as perhaps you are too, no?
@@Rick-the-Swift I don't really use Twitter but Marques definitely fits into the niche of journalists, influencers, and the like who have been extremely empowered by the platform and its ilk. That's probably also why he avoids calling out the destructive nature of Twitter as you said. I'm not sure what power you think I derive from social media as I don't really partake but I'm sure for most people like Marques they could easily get by without it, they'd probably just be a bit sad about it is all.
@@griffithsethan bruh. Marques is. But verge isn’t. And verge tells us what to say and what to think. Bro he’s gone….
@@fireant202 I appreciate your honesty, as much as I disdain Marques' avoidance of it. Fwiw, I agree he may be able to get by just fine without the empowerment and fame the platform provided him, but we could probably have said the same about the empowerment and fame the Nazi party provided to Hitler or his vast cabinet within the Third Reich. They were all too happy to avoid discussing the destructive nature of their platform as well. Some may call that an extreme comparison but the fact is, both were generating hate towards others on a massive scale. The Nazis were generating Antisemitism, while Twitter has been propagating Anti-conservatism, even Anti-whitism.
It's really hard to fathom being involved in a more toxic platform, which is still being used to propagate war and social divisiveness in many places throughout the world.
There is nothing wrong with Elon taking over Twitter. These are the same people that have said Orange Man bad for years. The same people who forced lockdowns and untested vaccines. Elon is literally a modern Einstein/ Tesla. Everyone loved Elon until he bought Twitter. Same thing with Trump. Everyone used to love Trump
There are some issues with UA-cam for sure but there's a reason I keep coming back to this platform over and over again, the content and form is unmatchable
I like this take a lot, but I think they need a LOT of revenue, and that means getting some fairly high percentage of current users to pay, but I don’t see the features that get them there…which is why I’ve been saying I think they’re eventually going to paywall the site. I don’t think it will work because of MKBHDs first law of the internet. 😅

Years from now when the internet inevitably becomes like the "Oasis" from Ready Player One people will think of MKBHD’s first law of the internet like Asimov’s laws of robotics. 😅
Yup, no one wants to pay for free. Twitter has addicts but not the amount Elon thinks there are. I've not cool artists on there but really that's all I use it for. I wouldn't lose any sleep over Twitter being gone tomorrow. It's useful for information gathering but if there's something that can replace it for free then I'll just jump to that.
Honestly, I don't want Twitter to become a creator platform, as you said there are already a bunch of other platforms for that. At its core, Twitter was built on the concept of being a (personal)news platform and I think this should continue. Trying to make Twitter something that it isn't, is going to cost Twitter greatly. Also, most normal people don't want to subscribe to another thing, especially since there are a lot of normal people who just use Twitter and not be an observer like on youtube. We just tweet shit. And with a P2W system even fewer people and especially friends won't see your tweets and comments.
Right! We don’t need another creator platform, there’s value in the chaos / public forum that is Twitter. Let it breath
Exactly my thoughts. UA-cam, Instagram, Snapchat etc. got taken over by content aimed at being monetised, which is fine as long as there is an alternative. This is why we switched from TV, guys. Not every platform has to be made for creators, where money and popularity influence your feed more than you can.
It became a curated garbage platform when it started choosing what news and what content could be posted. You’re far too scared of change and don’t realize that it’s not going to be that drastic. You’re just assuming that there will be millions paying 8 bucks for a blue check that everybody already assumes to be garbage.

@@ReeceCentre . He just explained why he would consider paying for Twitter. Would you switch to a paid subscription for Twitter in its current state? What would it offer you in return? The cost has to be worth the benefit.

This guy should be on an advisory board somewhere, excellent breakdowns, simplified explanation so easy to digest, excellent suggestions.
he's not coming from the perspective of an average user.. all of his advice and interpretation is from someone who sees these apps as their job/revenue avenues... all his suggestions evolve around twitter making him money for using it.. over 99% of users on these apps dont make a cent
more specifically his opinions are from a mainstream content creator that doesnt use any foul language or controversial opinions, nothing dangerous or game changing just reporting on tech news.. youtube is far from "s tier" they go well out of their way to restrict and limit any content with language, controversy or even just history in them... creators wont post historical content on youtube because itll be flagged and demonetized.. clearly subs and donations arent enough for these creators as they wont upload any video they fear will be demonetized they try to rope you into a separate service to see those videos... likely just greed on their part but still the same outcome for the user.. not seeing informative historical information on factual stuff due to the fear of left win advertisers afraid some stay at home mom will be offended
Yes, he’s the best voice on policies about tech and individuality and creativity. He’s a leader.
As someone who completely left all Social Media, only UA-cam is the one I still can't let go. And that says a lot. I'm sure many people who, like me doesn't find any value in these other platforms anymore can say the same.

The problem twitter has is that it's not a place for "content", it's a space for "conversation" which is gonna be hard to monetize. Agreed, people likely not going to want to pay for a previously free service. Twitter is in a bad place rn
I mean one can argue that Discord is also a space for conversation, and it was able to monetize things with the introduction of Nitro.
Then again, the counterargument there is that Discord Nitro actually adds features that doesn't compromise the free users.

you know what twitter, facebook and any other social thing out there needs to bring back? timelines. it was that real-time feed that allowed us to feel like we were all in a room together somehow, it really was a different way of actually connecting people. it was a way to see what your friends are doing right now, how are they feeling, what are they thinking and so on. we could comment about stuff that was happening in real time and react to each other, that was really fucking cool.

@@angeltysonswe how is it hidden?
I understand your thought process as a creator, but Twitter inherently isn’t a creator based platform. When I go to Twitter I’m looking for news updates, stories about video games or new releases, or checking up with content creators daily lives. I almost never watch any super long videos on Twitter bc 1.) the video player is awful, and 2.) there’s no interest in doing it there when I have UA-cam to do it perfectly fine like it has for years. I don’t want an everything app, and what you’re describing sounds like what Instagram has tried to do with shoving everything into one, and people (at least vocally) absolutely hate that. I’ve been on Twitter for 10+ years, but if I have to suddenly pay to be able to use the service and give Elon Musk my money because he wants to make sure I’m “real,” then I’m not going to use it anymore. Sad to say but this is not the right path and I hope Elon understands that but he hates taking any valid criticism.
Similarly, having the option not only show followers a tweet (i.e. make it a private tweet) make your account private, but still allow replies to be seen and stuff like that. It always struck me as weird that there are only 2 options for the visibility of your tweets. All or nothing
So you don’t care about the blue checkmark, but would leave if you had to pay for it? Are you bothered that someone might impersonate you? You are a nobody, why would anyone do that?
This is my opinion as well 100%. I totally agree with Marques about the one rule on the internet is you can't charge for something that was previously free. I hate to say it but I'm likely not going to continue using Twitter either. Not that i really "used" it before aside from a news feed like you. I will likely just start using reddit more frequently since that was my second option for getting news and content quickly. Really interested to see where I suspect the mass exodus of users will go from Twitter.
Regarding the pay service isn’t it for only if you have a blue check aka people who serve something to the platform not everyday users like us ? If you don’t have a blue check does it really matter ? And I agree I never used Twitter for tech I only use it for comedy tweets, news and sports

Tbh it's obviously a take of a youtuber. I believe that Twitter would be better of positioning itself as a cooler competition to LinkedIn. Most creators are on tiktok, Instagram, youtube etc. Twitter has older audience- many professionals from specific niches and gaining new leads through potential channels could enable transactions worth billions, and taking percentage of these transactions would be great source of revenue

Sheesh, I was like Elon hire him already... That's some creator brains!!!
Twitter is supposed to be a public digital forum, where everyone can talk to anyone. Turning it into a content creation platform will ruin its purpose.
The premium option should add value to existing properties such as more insight into tweet statistics and reach, premium tools (editing tweets, longer tweets), special ways for fans to interact with/support artist/content creators, and NOT about prioritising your tweet and shadowbanning everyone else under the assumption they're a bot. In my opinion, social media sites and platforms for content creators are totally different things. The former should not be a place with content primarily created by professionals purely for financial gains, but rather a public square where ordinary people converse and share their experiences without direct monetary incentives, carefully crafted marketing messaging and algorithms designed to maximize time spent on scrolling. That's why I much prefer the approach of the likes of Mastodon, which consists of many community-run servers where the goal is to have a civilized conversation, not just drive consumption.

I follow a good majority of the content creators I enjoy on Twitter, and it is a VERY different experience compared to what is currently happening in the communal sections of Twitter (not just responses to something some celebrity said, or a retweet from a celeb, etc)
A public square is not anonymous which is why these ideas don't really work out in the real world. At the end of the day these are all products built to make money not to altruistically provide a wonderful public square for the world to converse in. If you have a space with a large amount of people that segment themselves into neat little groups, you will always have marketers going after those groups.

Well, Twitter was selling blue checkmarks for 15,000 dollars, so it was hardly free. They just lied about it.
Really tried to give Twitter a try this year, but there’s so much clutter and also negativity on the platform. Rarely saw a good discussion on the platform. Only observed ranting and toxic attacks.
Same here so much clutter it is really not for me
Clutter. That is so aptly put. I have used orkut fb insta snapchat and they all made sense to me but twitter has never done. I understand the concept and kinda like it but there is always a lot of noise which I feel is mostly due to influencers and content creators posting some shit or the other every day. Same is happening with linkedin nowadays.
The reason why Twitter is so loud is because everybody on Twitter is interconnected and every community can easily interact with each other (Compared to UA-cam, or even Facebook, where people are actually trapped in their own bubble).
Seriously, if you want a social media where nobody is fully locked in an echo chamber, then go to twitter.

I think that i can speak for many of us that it's now becoming clear why these changes have been happening so drastically. Considering Elon musk posted some huge tweets today, and will continue to do so by the looks of things.
The 10% percent number of subscriptions makes sense as that's about the percent of people who can afford it like it's chump change or a lite snack.
For most people tho, ads will always make more sense as they pay with their attention and time and it needs no separate employment to pay for it.
In my opinion, Twitter is a library of journal entries. It's a direct glimpse into people's brains. It has a lot of insights about human behavior, and gives a really deep dive about what people and organizations are currently thinking about in that moment of time.
No.
yeah no... 140 character is can hardly transfer any information that is from people's brains... at least from people with a real brain any way. Only good thing it could do is instant announcement. Hardly anything creative or insightful. Most of the tweets are not carefully thought out hence not worth my time reading.
SO ITS A GLORIFIED FACEBOOK STATUS TURNED INTO A PLATFORM.
Lame😬
You could say the same thing about every other social media platform
It may be, but that library has a massive amount of selection bias.
“People pay $30/month for LinkedIn premium, that’s a LOT of money” as little as that statement is to most people, hearing it come from mkbhd is so nice. $30/mo to him is absolutely nothing compared to how much he makes, BUT he hasn’t lost sight of things like others in that tax bracket or higher where $30/mo for a large amount of us is actually expensive for something like LinkedIn premium. I don’t know anyone can dislike this man.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but rich people are some of the cheapest motherfuckers on the planet
Agreed. We use it at my company and we convert so many clients from LinkedIn. Quick numbers would be 500.000€+ from convertions and ongoing orders afterwards. LinkedIn's Sales navigator tool is the most powerful on the market.
He also provided an incorrect percentage of the amount of active UA-cam premium users.. so..
You must've not watched his recent back to school video...
Exactly, LinkedIn premium is mainly for recruiters, few people pay for it personally.
I ditched Twitter about a month ago. I liked the fast first person news of it, but none of the pearl-clutching. I have loved UA-cam since the beginning. I don't even know if I think of UA-cam as social, really.
What definition of a social media platform can you come up with that excludes UA-cam but includes the others?
UA-cam is social media.
UA-cam isn't social at all, I don't understand why anyone would say it is
@StormcastMarine because you don't interact with people, really. It's not built for that. You are just REACTING to entertainers or documenters. I don't know who you are, and I'll never see you again, and I have no way of talking to you ever again on here.
@@StormcastMarine UA-cam is a media platform. It's like Hulu and Netflix but more community based. We don't each get a feed to blast our personal lives and thoughts on daily. If it did, it would be social media. Most of us don't even tell people in our everyday lives that we're on youtube all day. We don't give anyone our YT usernames to our coworkers and family. We don't follow friends here. We follow independent producers and creators, alongside media giants. We learn how to do everything here. We're entertained here. And we're mostly respectful here compared to other video sharing comment sections on social media.

Twitter is the best site for creator interactions IMO. For example, the odds of Marques interacting with a tweet I tag him in are way higher than him replying to a comment I leave on a UA-cam video.
Yeah it's the only platform where communication is kind of the main form of interaction on the site. UA-cam is a video site. Twitter is pretty much just a talking site
Yeah those odds are going to change DRASTICALLY now if you don't start paying $8/month.
But what happens when it gets flooded, you'll get the same result as the other platforms- no reply
Is this maybe connected to US celebrity culture? Is you only purpose to comment to get a reaction from the creator
I don't know what you are talking about, He always reply to my youtube comment with awesome sweepstakes, and I always win, just have to contact him over telegram!
Twitter? Whats that? I know x but…
I appreciate the bold move of sharing your thoughts in the topic 👌
I appreciate the tone and spirit of this video and get where you're coming from on this, but like other commenters I also think that content creator focused tools shouldn't be a priority for improving Twitter in the near term. The biggest problems facing most people on Twitter right now are the experience of seeing lots of tweets that people feel aren't relevant to them because the algorithm currently boosts reshares and engagements by people you follow over the actual content of your follows. Lately they're even throwing "you might like..." suggestions and I feel like this has been the wrong way for the site to go.
It's not that I think your suggestions shouldn't happen, but as you noted even Facebook has 10x the DAU count so Twitter has a long way to grow to become an attractive platform for those who make a living on audience size. IMO Twitter should probably focus on getting right what it does best before expanding its scope to be an influencer destination.
100% true. Basically there are several twitter accounts that I "shadow-follow" because every tweet they make is recommended to me and appears on my TL because of another account I follow gave them a like or follows them. Meanwhile I haven't seen the latter's tweets because they are shadow banned
I don't use twitter, but would focusing the recommendations lead to rabbit holing? Might still be worth it for the user experience
@@jacobfrye996 they already have some level of curation, but it doesn't seem to be working that well right now because I get a lot of irrelevant political and self promotion content still. It was a really conspicuous change when I started getting stuff in my feed outside of my follows. Obviously tweaking these things takes a lot of work and it's clear they were trying but who knows now after these mass layoffs.
@@RaDinokun it's pretty annoying, isn't it? Especially when it's content you dislike but the person you follow looks at often
From my experience using twitter for over 8 years with at least 5 different accounts and 3 accounts that I check EVERY SINGLE DAY, twitter is for the audiences. Yeah creators can use it too, but the platform itself will be trash if it turns into a place to create more content. Where do the people talk about their current interests in day to day life? In series theyre watching? In famous people they follow? in youtubers and writers theyre interested in? where do they share their fanarts and creations so others who like the same thing can see? Twitter is perfect for that.
These opinion pieces are always a delight to watch, because you just don't throw your opinion out there without explaining why. I love that you go in depth with your opinion. You're also basically on top of the situation, as all this happened in less than a week.
@Cake I’d agree. As a creative myself I really just use twitter to find, interact, and check out other designers/illustrators/fine artists
I don't think he said anything twitter isn't thinking about. He just wanted to make a video on a popular topic.
Imo by design UA-cam will always be the best platform to use. You can find high quallity content on pretty much any topic that interest you, just plain entertainment, education , news , whatever suits you. Many said this before but i can take p much all other platforms out of my life w/o really noticing a difference ( only reason I use Facebook or Instagram for example is to message other people), but i can't take UA-cam away

For me, Twitter is basically an instant and unfiltered access to information from regular or high profile people (which is kind of a problem because that makes twitter the heated mess that it is)
I never really saw it as a creater platform
.... before musk twitter is a leftist biased run service that deletes and bans right wing opinions especially in politics

@@vule2327 i know ,twitter has been the WORST in every platform of filtering posts to give the left wing bias a larger presence

@@vule2327 well yea when I see some dude get shot and it happened like 10 minutes before the video went online then that is what I meant with unfiltered
I have the impression that you evaluate Twitter like UA-cam ... and they are very different. UA-cam is built for video (create, upload and monetize). Twitter is a platform for tweets, small ideas that are shared. In that sense, it is more like a worldwide chat. That's why it feels you can talk to anybody, because it is a messaging service ! Therefore the question is not how to monetize content creation but user interaction and messaging. I would push for better messaging and interaction tools, data visualization of all those interactions ...
That's correct.
i think still implementing instagram-like, youtube-like and tiktok-like features could improve the twitter landscape without negatively affecting the users too much, even if they decide to go for integration over competition. eg a yt link uses the youtube embed player or a custom player from a yt-twitter partnership to play the vid (with ads unless yt premium is linked to twitter) without needing to go to the yt site. with tiktok they could be a bit more aggressive with the embed player, opening a client to play the one video and offering a link to follow the uploaders twitter which auto-mirrors all tiktok posts through linked accounts. also having a close friends option like meta/snapchat would be good for personal tweets vs public tweets.
MKB is the first American I’ve heard to pronounce the word in-te-resting correctly. For that he gets my sub.
this model that Marques is pitching absolutely works. Discord Nitro has a boatload of subscribers who stick to the subscription because Nitro targets discord powerusers who use the platforms day in and day out.
I think my biggest problem with the $8 verification is the prioritization of your posts, especially when Elon said at a conference that, "you'll have to scroll for quite a while to find a post from someone that isn't verified." That's a huge blow to small creators trying to build their following. I've found loads of cool people that I've followed from a suggested post from a user that wasn't verified. Heavily prioritizing people just because they pay the $8 a month is like pay to win.
That's exactly what it is, P2W, and like any game you play, it's disparaging to new users. It's kind of incredible that Elmo of all people wouldn't understand this. Isn't he a gamer? Didn't he grow up with our generation? Baffling.
True, but bots are pay to win anyway.
It's not perfect, but it's better. And I'm not verified on Twitter.
Elon is doing this so Twitter will be less reliant on advertisers. Mayb $8 is slightly high (i would have preferred $5)
A $96 a year advertisement expense is nothing
Its perfectly normal, since people can earn money from it, pay up

The dickriding crazy
I think it's ironic he's giving eloon ideas that he'll eventually butcher &badly implement.. after he got angry/sulky at Marques for daring to suggest making ppl pay for something that's always been free has never worked
Its also ironic that MK says UA-cam is s-tier when it is just as if not more toxic than fb &twitter.. the difference being u can tailor restrict the incel culture warrior content from popping up on your feeds.. with UA-cam even blocking these creeps doesn't stop them polluting your search/suggestion feeds.. lol.. beginning to think maybe eloon shouldve bought ytube instead
My issue with subscriptions is that some of them feel like cash grabs without real thought. At least with something like a Twitch sub, you get features related to the chat and the stream, a package that has a specific place within the Twitch platform. Twitter Blue consists of things completely unrelated to each other like editing tweets, reader mode, changing the app accent colour, customising the navigation bar, etc. It just feels like Twitter is taking everything the community wants and locking it behind a paywall because they know people will pay for it.
Elon himself is a cash grab all the trucks and semis arnt coming there just there for preorder and that funds him
💯 agree with you on that
They're going to be the next PBASE.
It’s definitely a slap in the face to the userbase who thinks they’re giving feedback on how to make the app better when in reality they’re giving tips on how to monetise it better.
