- Zero Suit Samus' forward smash has always been a bad move but it's original iteration in Brawl was something else. It is a very different move compared to her forward smash in later games and yet, it is even worse.

I always thought her Brawl F-smash was more suited to being F-tilt, given how underwhelming it was for a smash attack.
It’s pretty much got the speed of an Fsmash and the power of an ftilt (although there are much faster and stronger ftilts and fsmashes).
There has been many instance of similar cases.
The best exemple I has is charizard's brawl and smash 4 rock smash, which I always thought would fit SO well as an f-smash, but not only is it not an f-smash, it has been removed from ultimate where Charizard slaps his wings down for its d-smash and whip his head in his f-smash. Both of those moves lack personality and originality and would have been better if they were swapped for a powerful rock smash bc it had more range and rock chunks were projectile so safer on shield
I feel like this is one of those situations where the devs saw that it could potentially be too strong because of its range, and overcorrected when nerfing it.
I've noticed that happens a lot with games (like Meta Knight and Bayonetta getting nerfed into the ground after dominating the meta of their respective games).
That is definitely a possibility.
Isn't meta knight a high tier in Smash 4? Tbf Bayonetta got nerfed into oblivion then got buffed into a high tier.
He is but he still got rather dramatic nerfs coming into Smash 4.
I mained this character in Brawl because I really liked her up-special and the weird stuff you could do with it (Dropped her in Smash 4 because rocket boots made her feel way less interesting). Learned very quickly to just never use forward smash.
ZSS was definitely changed a lot in Smash 4 and I can definitely see why a Brawl ZSS wouldn’t like her in 4. Didn’t help that in 4, her gameplan became “get ladder comboes and KO from there”.
@@bigbangbot-SuperSqank Oh, 100%. She was way better, but I found her boring so I swapped to Zard, Mega Man, and Palutena (I swear I'm not a tier snob lol). Loved her in PM though.
this man really made a good brawl breakdown video in 2022! where were you in 2008?? XD good stuff
ty. I was just a young little boy back then.
You got me at "Just kidding, she sux."
I mean, 9th on the tier list and strong tournament results including a victory at Apex 2013 ain’t bad at all.
Nice Marss reference in the intro lmao
Finally someone who knows as much about hitboxes as I do! Subscribed.
Thanks.
If anyone has any questions relating to this move or video, then feel free to ask. I think I covered basically everything and I'm happy with how the video turned out, even though there are a couple of audio errors (and I know my mic isn't very good). I also tried to make the video quieter than my previous vids but it didn't work out quite as well as I hoped. I recommend not having the volume too high.
I don't know what I'll be covering next but as always, I'm willing to hear suggestions.
At 6:54, I said that the ZSS jabbing is at +5 when it's actually the ZSS fsmashing that's at +5. Whoops. The jabbing ZSS is still at +30 or so against the other hitboxes though.
As another note, I've actually learnt how the 13% sweetspot works. There are a couple of instances where you can land it.
You can land it against a crouching Kirby/Puff/GNW sometimes (It's pretty inconsistent)
You can land it against a ledge grabbing Charizard (also inconsistent).
Yes
Brawl ZSS wasn't fantastic, but I'll be damned if she didn't feel like a top 5 character when I fought her.
My Main (Pokemon Trainer) had a -3 MU against her. Zard got comboed. Ivysaur got 0-Deathed very easily, and ZSS could match his range. Squirtle destroyed her thanks to his small hitbox because ZSS sucks against short characters. But good luck winning with Squirtle when stamina exists.
watching this again even tho the move sucks in ultimate i remember it was nerfed in a patch thats why it kills Mario at 155%
You should talk about Ganondorf's up tilt in Brawl or Squirtle's side B in Brawl
Ganon's up tilt is something I'll probably do eventually. Not sure about Squirtle Side B though.
@@bigbangbot-SuperSqank Fair enough.
I think Squirtle side B mostly sucks since while it gives him armor during most of the duration it only does 7% at best, does not kill even at 300%, and is really easy for you to SD with and easy for the opponent to dodge. It's also extremely useless against shields and can be punished by foot-stooling. Squirtle overall has much better options in his moveset that are safer and more rewarding.
That's just my suggestion though from my personal experiences maining PT in Brawl
I do agree that Squirtle Side B has quite notable weaknesses but it's not high on my to do list. I could do it at some point though but there are definitely other things I want to cover first.
@@bigbangbot-SuperSqank That's respectable, I can't wait for the Meta Knight jab or the Falco forward air videos honestly (if you're still planning to cover those next)
Those videos will definitely come in due time.
Jeez that forward smash was so bad thank goodness its better in smash 4 and ultimate 😅
And it still sucks in those games. It just doesnkt suck as much. Keepo
what was the copypasta about brawl characters being balanced with items in mind and mk being worse in items, falcon better, just replace falcon with zss
"see ess ess" least americanised modern briton
I feel like with “Z” in acronyms, you gotta say it based on where it originated. Everyone calls her “Zee S S” (even in other English speaking countries), “Zed S S” just sounds wrong.
