  • Wario has always had a pretty bad down smash but I'm here to explain why it was so bad in Brawl particularly.

    This move looks more like a joke than an attack. After playing Smash 4, when I did this in Brawl for the first time I was amazed at how long it was

      It would probably be a good taunt. Wario’s dance skills are impeccable.

    I think the merry-go-round was probably wario's favorite playground equipment as a kid

    Even CONCEPTUALLY Wario's down smash is weird as heck... Like, how did Sakurai even come up with this? Wario just somehow spins around on his back at unnaturally fast speeds. It feels so random.

      At least in Ultimate it kind of makes sense. He tries to do/one up Mario's break dance Down Smash, but fails and awkwardly spins instead. The animation in Brawl is really just him spinning, and for quite a while longer than in Ultimate. It does look really strange.

      @@goGothitaLOL But you see, they couldn't include the Earthquake Punch because they were busy updating Pit's moveset so he can better reflect Kid Icarus Uprising instead! (also good bye shoulder bash, aka Wario's signature attack)
      No shade to Kid Icarus, of course. (Uprising's pretty fun!) But it is quite noticeable, especially since Pit and Wario both debuted in Brawl.

      @@namenamename390 That seems like a good explanation to me, especially considering Wario loves to dance in some of the early WarioWare game titles. (Such as Twisted and Touched)

    2023 edit: I was still getting my footing into this content creation thing so the mic quality along with the editing and pacing were not the best to say the least. I would definitely recommend checking out my later videos in this series if you haven’t already as they are much better made overall.
    Original comment: I'm still trying to find the best way to record with my microphone and I would definitely like to look into getting a better one in the future. Thank you guys for the generally positive feedback I got from the last video. It means a lot to me. I tried to make this video as short as I could while also keeping as much information as I could. I know there are a few little editing and recording oddities too.
    As always, I'm open for suggestions for future videos. This series is mainly focused on Brawl but I will look at other games down the road.

    Great series! I love competitive Brawl -- warts and all -- so it's cool to see it get some time in the sun and have people talk about it.

      Thank you. I love the competitive side of Brawl too. While I do criticise some of the more question balancing in these videos, it’s all in good fun and I really enjoy talking about and documenting all the ins and outs of the game.

    For my entire time playing brawl I've never paid attention to how wario's down smash actually hits behind him first (or if I did hit the back hitbox first I probably just forgot) ,
    for the longest time I thought that it was just a a down smash that had long start up for the front hitbox and I just assumed that it was weaker for the back hitbox,
    I've never consistently used it in practice mainly because of it's high end lag and it's ability to be punished to easily, I appreciate you listing off it's usefulness since I never thought of the uses that it has, like being able to instantly punish shield cross ups out of shield but even then, the high amounts of end lag is a determent so I'd just do an aerial out of shield since it's a lot safer and I'll have to trade in a slightly slower option for more safety
    Now here's the question that I've been wanting to ask, it's not exactly relevant to the theme of the video but what's with the black bars?

    • @bigbangbot-SuperSqank
      @bigbangbot-SuperSqank  3 роки тому +1

      I never knew the move hit behind first until I did the research for this video. It’s a strange property indeed.
      The move doesn’t instantly punish cross-ups. It’s just that it hits on both sides with decent range so you can use it as an easy option to punish ambiguous crossups (although the odds are more in your favour if the opponent if behind you). I didn’t mention this in the video but fsmash can hit behind Wario (although it doesn’t have much range behind him).
      The black bars are just surrounding the video as that how it was recorded.

      @@bigbangbot-SuperSqank Rest is at least very rewarding and DeDeDe's jab is simply badly made but can jablock, at least

    • @bigbangbot-SuperSqank

      Rest isn’t that rewarding in this game. Still a lot more rewarding than this down smash however. I was never saying that Rest is worse (because it definitely isn’t), just how it is technically much more punishable.

    I'm curious to know what the worst down smash in the game might be. My only guesses are it could be Pikachu's or Snake's

    • @bigbangbot-SuperSqank
      @bigbangbot-SuperSqank  Рік тому +1

      I'd say it's either this, Ivysaur's or Ganon's.
      Pikachu's is solid against players with bad SDI but even if the opponent can effectively SDI it, it has long lasting hitboxes which can make it good at beating out spot dodges and such.
      Snake's is unbelievably slow but if you can set it up, it's nice for stage control, particularly if the opponent is at the edge.
      I'll also mention Peach's. Peach's down smash is extremely weak in addition to being an unreliable multi hitting move but it is fast and it has decent range on both sides which does make it an alright option to challenge ambiguous cross-ups.

    • @Camo-xf7yc
      @Camo-xf7yc Рік тому

      @@bigbangbot-SuperSqank I could understand Ganondorf's definitely. I'm not sure about Ivysaur though since I remember it being his quickest smash attack even if it is really weak, and it at least hits around him quicker than Ganondorf's as well as having a chance to trip the opponent.

    • @bigbangbot-SuperSqank
      @bigbangbot-SuperSqank  Рік тому

      Ivysaur's down smash is horribly slow. It comes out a bit slower than fsmash, although its ending lag is a bit lower overall (but still really, really high). It also just cannot kill at all, you can survive it at the ledge at 200%. And while it technically has a high trip chance, it literally only trips opponents at 0% and the move is so laggy that you get nothing out of the trip. The only thing it really has going for it is its disjointed range on both sides but that hardly matters when it is so slow and weak.

      @@bigbangbot-SuperSqank Point taken. I tend to forget how a lot of these moves work in Brawl because I never played it competitively so I never got to learn how good or bad a lot of moves are and I mostly apply my knowledge from Ultimate or Smash 4. I am genuinely curious though how bad both Ivy and Ganon's down smashes are, hopefully they end up getting their own video in the future.

    • @bigbangbot-SuperSqank
      @bigbangbot-SuperSqank  Рік тому
