Trash Smash Moves: Falco's Forward Air (Brawl)

- Well, here it is. A move I have wanted to cover since I started this series. A move I started writing the script for a year ago. A move I have teased doing in the past. A move which is also one of the most requested moves for this series. Considering that this is the 10th video in this series, I wanted to finally cover this move. Thank you to everyone who has watched this series. I highly appreciate it. I will take a break from this series for a while (I have no idea what I'd even cover next) but you guys are more than welcome to give suggestions for future videos. Despite taking a break from this series however, I am releasing a different kind of Smash analysis video which should come out in the near future.
Falco is one of the better characters in Brawl and he has a bunch of highly effective moves. But his forward aerial is not what you would call an effective move.

this is the first time i've ever seen a smash bros brawl hitbox that wasn't a low res gif of snakes up tilt on a random website
No, see, this is design genius. The goal was to have the relationship between Falco Nair and Fair the same as in melee, where the main purpose of Fair is to be a blatantly worse version than Nair.
Dang, you figured out what Sakurai was thinking when he made this game.
I miss Brawl so much.
Me too.
😢
It didn't die you can still play it
just got recommended this video, and now i'm excited to binge the whole series! i love seeing the less-competitively played smash games get analyzed, especially brawl, since i only joined the comp scene in smash 4 and all everyone ever talks about it MK. brawl has so many weird quirks it's honestly fascinating to me
Brawl is indeed a very fascinating game. There is a lot more to it than people realise. I’ve been researching the game a lot for the past 4 years and I still learn new things every now and then.
As a Falco secondary in Ultimate its crazy to see the glow up Falco fair got to the point he can do drag downs
After so much time, here it is. One of my most requested videos and one of the moves I’ve wanted to cover for the longest time. I hope this video turned out alright. I know my mic is still not great and all but I hope the video is still enjoyable regardless. If you did enjoy it then it would be wonderful if you supported the channel by commenting, liking the video, subscribing and sharing it.
If you have any questions or would like me to explain certain things in more detail then do feel free to ask. I will say that I originally had a significantly longer section on RCO but I cut it down to cut down on time. I’d be more than happy to explain that in further detail if anyone is interested. I would also like to say that Ike’s fsmash is not a guaranteed punish on shield if Falco lands frame perfectly but if he is in the air for even a single frame after landing that last hit on shield, the fsmash is guaranteed.
I'm curious to know more about RCO from Falco's Fair.
I had no idea that Drag Down Fair could lead to anything in *ANY* capacity in Brawl of all games, even if it'd be something as niche as RCO on 2 characters.
This is especially since despite starting with Smash 4 (competitively that is), I had the chance to play Brawl as well, tho the only person I got to play it competitively against in any capacity was one ofmy cousins (I mained both Fox & Falco, and he mained R.O.B.).
I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if even the top Falco players back in the day didn’t know about the RCO setup. It’s just so niche, risky and requires extensive game knowledge to actually take advantage of, especially against a skilled opponent.
6:16 DK kisses Falco in public, but doesn't know that Falco is a tsundere
I laughed more than I should have. lol
Very glad I got this in my recommended, fun watch and I plan to watch the rest of the series.
Also would definitely wanna see Yoshi's side b cause....it's just bad in every game somehow.
TY UA-cam algorithm
Yay :)
Yay it caught onto the UA-cam algorithm :)
Loving the channel btw!!!
Thanks.
I like this and would love to see more
Deserves a sub
Thank you. I do already have more videos in this series and I plan to make more down the road.
10:00 You really are the RCO expert. How in the hell did you find this? Lmao
I just thought about it, crunched the numbers and realised that it would be a thing. For a move as bad as this, you have to dig as deep as you can to find anything that can even be the tiniest bit useful.
Oh am I glad this got recommended to me
Wow this move is bad. I guess this means I have to binge the rest of the series to find other moves that are that bad.
(Also, I recommend you take a look Melee Roy dair and Ultimate Marth/Lucina dash attack)
The funny thing about Marth dash attack in Ultimate is that it’s one of the best versions of that move. It pretty much got nothing but buffs coming from 4 to Ultimate. The only thing though is that because Ultimate allows you to cancel running into more attacks, it becomes kind of redundant and loses its main use, making it less useful.
Roy down air is something I could look into if I ever decide to look into Melee in this series although my main focus is on Brawl, followed by 4 and 64.
Have you ever tried brawl+?
I tried it for the first time with friends not-so long ago & i think you'd appreciate it
It's essentially just vanilla brawl but with slightly more hitstun + a tad heavier gravity
Kinda like smash 4 but with edge cancels
I have never tried Brawl+. I think the fundamental thing about Brawl+ which I am not really a fan of is that it made Brawl play more like Older games. Brawl is such a unique game and while rebalancing it is a fun idea, altering the way the game plays to make it more like other Smash games just makes not the game not Brawl anymore. Of course, PM took this concept of turning Brawl into Melee to 11 but Brawl+ was the origin of that idea. I can see why these mods may appeal to people, they just simply aren’t for me but I will say that I am not a fan of the “why would you play Brawl when PM/P+ exists” mindset. They are two completely different games gameplay wise with their own unique feel which you can’t get from the other. These mods are a fun thing to mess around with but I do ultimately see them as a separate entity to Brawl and they shouldn’t really replace Brawl.
The thing I do find fascinating about Brawl+ though is that it seems to be pretty hard to find these days. It is very hard to find any videos of people playing it. I’m not sure if I’ve even seen gameplay of it myself. The mod just vanished once Brawl- and PM/P+ became a thing.
@@bigbangbot-SuperSqank I found the idea of modding brawl to blasphemous, back in 2009 so it's only recently I've tried it myself hahaha
I asked a tech-savvy friend of mine to make an ISO for it & I've treasured the file ever since
It honestly feels like more of a 64 meets Brawl kinda experience as (unlike PM) there are no melee mechanics inserted in + it's all the brawl animations (albeit adjusted frame data)
but yeah project m essentially wiped it out immediately 😫
I don't have any issues with Brawl modding. I've tried it out myself (mainly moveset mods) and it is fun to do. I would never try and replace regular Brawl with mods though, it's just more of a fun side thing to mess around with in my eyes.
@@bigbangbot-SuperSqank Love the sections where you tweak the frame data, especially in your Ganon video!!
I despised melee-esque brawl modding back in 2009, solely because Brawl was so severely underappreciated
I promise to halt the brawl+ propaganda but it really is such a distinct entity from the other games & honestly worth checking out🙌
Really good video man! Quick suggestion tho; maybe lower the game audio, there were a lot of times it was hard to hear you cause your audio got over powered. Excellent topic and presentation otherwise!
Thank you. I do try to give a good balance between my voice and game audio but I also like to keep the game audio at a consistent volume. I should probably be more willing to turn it down for clips where the game is loud though, I do see that.
What’s with the frame stops of Mirabel
Just a random reaction image. It has become a staple for my videos at this point.
Heh, heh. It's so funny how I made this move even worse.
