B&W Companion: Unboxing and installation of 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch

  • My father-in-law helps my wife and me unbox and install our new B&W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch in our F350 Super Duty 6’ 3/4” bed.
    NOTE:
We mistakenly put the top on first without the spring. So you’ll see the spring being installed and then, in the next clip when the top goes on, the spring is gone (because that’s when we put the top on the first time). We then had to take the top off to install the spring. So, don’t make the mistake we made. Put the spring on BEFORE putting the top on.

Greetings, I watched your video to see how the install went, as I just bought a new to me (used) 2016 F250 and ordered the B&W OEM like you all have. I received mine and opened the boxes and while you can do the install like you guys did I have a STRONG recommendation for others if you come across this instructional video. DO NOT install the base into the truck prior to completing the assembly of the base (attaching the pivot arms.) You are restricting your already limited access to attaching the pivot arms to the threaded blocks and bolt plate. You can do this assembly including tightening the bolts to torque spec while NOT attached to the truck. Also I'm not sure about your torque setting - the instructions for mine indicated 110 lbs of torque not 80. Being off the truck allows you clear access to the bottom and makes installing the pivot arms much simpler. Additionally I'm pretty sure you were using general purpose grease but the installation instructions SPECIFICALLY state to lubricate the polyurethane bushings on top of the pivot arms with lithium grease. Ok I'm done nit-picking your video. I hope someone will find this useful in the future.

Great job on the video! Looks like you have a wonderful helping family as well. One thing to note is the torque for the pivot arm bolts should be 110 instead of 80 ft lbs. Thanks for posting and ignore the tool haters in the comments! Your Dad’s snap-on torque wrench costs more than their whole harbor freight tool set.
