I Estimate the total cost of the setup to be around $5,000. That Includes everything that I had to buy from start to finish. Check out Redodo Lithium Batteries! Discount Code: GUS www.redodopower.com/?ref=kpt00fas
Great videos! I’m currently installing lithium batteries and a SUNGOLDPOWER 6kW inverter/charger/transfer switch into my gulfstar 44 motor yacht. I went with four 200 amp 24 volt batteries in series/parallel for a total of 400 amps x 48 volts = 19.2 kW of power which is more than enough to supply the 6kW inverter. I see one problem with your setup. You have two 100 amp 24 volt batteries in series for 48 volts but you’re limited to 100 amps total because that’s all the battery management systems will allow. So you have 100 amps x 48 volts = 4.8kW of power driving a 6.5kW inverter. You need more power from your battery bank.
@@kdorang thank you for watching! The batteries are not 24 Volts, they are 48Volt Batteries. According to the manual it’s over 4x recommended minimum capacity.
@@InTooDeepBro Ah my bad. So you have them in parallel for 48 volts and 200 amps. That gives you 9600 kW which is more than enough for your 6500 watt inverter. Keep up the great videos!
If you’ve never worked on a boat, you may not understand how much insanely hard and crazy, work goes into doing this. A MASSIVE amount of tedious, cramped spaces to work in. And a billion unexpected issues that come up every step of the way. Awesome video.
Wiring tips, go to a home store plumbing dept and get plastic pipe J hook hangers. They come in all the normal pipe sizes 1/2" up to 2 or 3" . They're dirt cheap can be cut to lengths to mount/run wires in all ways. It's a J so easy to get wires on/off and zip tie down to secure. Also use dielectric grease on all wire connections for years of trouble free connections.
Been following for awhile here and there. Based in Rhode Island but also have a home in St Lucie County Florida. When i went to class for marine surveying i meet a marine electric genius i could put you in contact with. I made it through ABYC certified advisor and surveying but electrical was not my strongest point
I am very impressed. I’m an old guy who enjoys the kind of things you’ve done and your work ethic and dedication to your boat is very impressive. Keep it up. The rewards of doing it your self makes it more rewarding.
Gus, I am once again amazed by your energy, commitment and consistent hard labour. Your parents must be so proud of you. I don't know of any other young man like yourself who works like you. Gosh, you are amazing. Lots of good luck from "Couch Potato" in Cape Town.❤🇿🇦
Dude, I am awed by you young guys. Keep posting. Im envious and in retrospect I wish I had pursued such a endeavor when a lad. May the fair tide be with you. Steve
Hey Off Grid ! I like the way you work with your electronics in converting everything! You make it seem so easy, but you still have to have some electronic know how, your awesome man! But you figured it all out! Super Cool dude! God Bless you, you have a gift or shall I say you are pretty gifted when it comes to figuring out what you want and need to do! I admire your way of thinking very much! Just want to congratulate you on an amazing job! And if I ever need someone to do a job for me, or anyone who needs something to do with a boat reconfiguration of work on there boats, you are the MAN for the job! I Just get excited just watching you take a boat, an make it run beautiful from the ground up! I salute you! Keep up the great work yhat you do.

You are a master at what you do ,I wish I was 40 years younger I would be doing the same thing your doing , I didn’t miss the boat , during the last 40 years I have had 6 sail boats starting at 23 feet to my last boat A 40 foot Beneteau,, with two state rooms, two bathrooms and hot and cold pressurized running water, plus A/C she was a beauty. I really enjoy and look forward to your videos. I love the way you run into trouble and always figure out a way to fix it better than it was. God bless you, my friend be well keep working and post more.
When one is serious about implementing this to one of your own,no,NONE of this is boring, and actually reviewed portions of this ( the electrical system) several times. I can no longer fly as pilot due to my age,but rather than cry about it , I can enjoy the idea of taking ownership of an older, but classic(and beautiful)Hatteras like yourself. Your wonderful drive has brought you something most your age could never imagine and am sincerely happy for you. Your videos are so close and personal, that often when you point out something like "so you see this?" I'm responding "Yea. What's that?" Out loud as if I'm in the engine room or wherever with you.😅 God bless you pal.😉👍
Time to eat a bit of crow...given the age, size and history of the boat, (and my own wharf rat knowledge after owning boats, managing marinas and such) I had doubts about what you were taking on. Clearly, I was beyond wrong. A very well thought out and executed plan. I look forward to next vid. Continued success!
Gus, I mean this in absolutely NO disrespect! You're a man wiser than his years Son! I realize Google and UA-cam can be wonderful information outlets BUT you have the fortitude of a much older man ( should say thanks to your pops right now 😂 ) Keep on keepin' on my young UA-cam friend, you impress this ole guy!
How do you not have more subscribers?!? The mind and the passion you have for boats and water, at your age, is epic! Thank you for one of your best videos. One of these days, you will go viral. ⚓️😎
I must say your narration and editing has improved substantially. I’m also Impressed how well you explained everything. Job well done👍👍👍👍👍 your living me dream kid! Keep it up!!😊
Great work setting up your system, I custom built a 12kWh LiFePO4 battery bank for my boat and have not looked back since. Lead acids are only for engine starting now. One small tip is to put the negative and positive wires on different batteries if you're doing parallel setups where high amp draws are likely to be often. It helps make sure both batteries charge/discharge evenly, else you might find the bottom battery with both conductors on it is discharging faster than the top battery. Will Prowse has a good video on setting up parallel battery banks.
Gus, great work. Always great to see someone dig in, figure it out and just do it. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing this journey with us!
Gus, a 1981 Hatt 43c owner here, great content and appreciate your “how to” DIY approach and just the right amount of commentary plus work footage. Have to say I was thrilled when you upgraded to the Hatt, I was watching prior but my interest level def increased with the MY. I have a full 12v system, with 8kW Gen and everything you shared here is of great value to me! Thank you for the awesome video.
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice work in this episode. 🎉🎉🎉 Wish I knew as much about boat power. So what I need explaining a bit more is why you only need 2, 48 V LiFePo4 batteries and other boat installs use 6 or 8. Thanks.
EXCELENT video, love the different voltages for the different systems and the fact you made your own cables! Shunts are a must ..........thanks for sharing
Very nice job. One small point to consider in wiring the lithium banks is to wire the positive wire to one battery bank and the negative wire to the other battery bank. This would balance the small voltage drop in the parallel wiring method between the two batteries. Obviously with 48 V and large gauge wire this voltage drop is very small even when charging and discharging at high current but is a point to consider. John
Man all this info was just.. inavualble! All fun and games aside, a live-aboard most definitely needs an off-grid system like this and you did a pretty damn good job explaining it to us. Thanks a lot, man!
Great job Gus!..👍 I love how you broke it down into an easy-to-understand explanation of your upgraded electrical system and how you installed it... I found it very helpful and and something I can refer back to when I reach the point of doing my own upgrade in the future.. You kept it interesting and understandable compared to other channels that are boring and all talk and just saying blah blah blah blah blah blah blah just to sound smart but confuses their audience....lol

Oh I do understand. I'm currently rehabbing a unique center console boat that has a tri hull. I just got the motor and now I'm thinking I'm in over my head. I've got the boat painted and looking great. But now I've gotta pull the old outboard mount a new one and run all new rigging. Did I mention I have no idea what im doing. Sure could use a hand lol. But ya just keep trucking doing what ya can
Very impressive! And I don't just mean the system. I started watching these videos from the beginning about two weeks ago, and got hooked quickly. PS: I hope to see those rickety bimini supports gone soon.
Love your videos and I have been following your journey. I am seriously considering living on a boat just like yours. I am 60 Years old, so I have to consider I will probably be back on land in ten years, but that's not my concern right now. Thank you for sharing your story and I will continue to follow along.

Unplugged from fumes on the water. Sweet. A rack from the main deck sounds logical to me. You can mount a clamp somewhere along the bulkhead. Secure for sea should be heavy duty. 👊👍
My dude, I've been watching your stuff about an hour now. I'm currently looking for a Hat. But, you're truly impressive young man. PS, I'm not only an avid boater, but maintain a solar site too😂

what a great way to live, i bet there must be some rather nice parties on board hehe, between all this hard work
I love spending long days on the water in my boat, but I was tired of having to constantly recharge batteries. Switching to ReDoDo lithium batteries has given me the peace of mind he needs to enjoy time on the water.
Love the videos...I was laughing...I'm also a huge PB Blaster fan...I spray f*&^% everything that moves...hahaha...never had a problem. Cheers!
Glad to see you back.
