- In this episode of InTooDeep, I am literally in too deep in my 1968 Hatteras 50' that I bought on its side after Hurricane Ian. Now its a race against time to get the boat back together, in the water, and on the way south before snow flys! Can I do it? Tune in for my most epic restoration video yet, where the old Hatteras gets new running gear, major repairs, and a slew of systems upgrades all in preparation for another season of adventuring! When you have 88k subscribers and your video gets almost a half million views, it gives you an idea how many folks enjoy watching your work. It just goes to show what a younger person who dedicates him or herself to learn different trades, and who has the drive to work hard, can achieve. It's great to see, and I hope your videos inspire the next generation of potential trades and craftspeople to find people like you to learn from.
Well said Sir.
Gus, me and my wife love your videos, and really appreciate your amazing talent and attitude. I will be buying a boat in the next 2 years; I may get in contact with you at some point. Keep them coming!! We call you " the kid".
Ha! I call him "The Kid" too. Talented kid.
He is a hard worker, but he also has some other qualities-- he shows INITIATIVE. Meaning, he is not afraid of taking on tasks where there is a possibility of failure. Also, he is smart and a quick study. Really, I do not know a single 23 year old with as much amp to his game as this guy has. I would bet my condo that he does not do drugs. He has too much drive. Too much ambition. I also predict he will be a well known guy on youtube within a few short years.
From one old boat owner to another...I love the way you are so calm about being in too-deep, know the feeling pushing out dates on the hard-stand and trying to do everything yourself....I am enjoying your you journey and finding some motivation from it
I remember back when you did this how time flies! Your came a long way!! Big 73 ft Traller ❤
First time watching and I must say, i love to see young people who are into fixing old stuff and not just buying new but, at the same time mixing old and new technology !!!
Hey Gus - I'm the guy that bought Quest! Sitting on her in Key Largo right now. Great videos. Look me up if you ever want a ride on Quest again. Craig has my info.
Hi Gus
Came across you by accident. What a lot of knowledge you have for a young guy. I am impressed by your attitude. I hope you continue with your channel but if not I wish you every success in the World. You are a clever, creative young man.
I was going to make the same post as you have done Well done young man.
Too bad you are too busy to post more. This channel is something different is a sea of "will it run" channels. The mix of lifestyle with craftsmanship has potential for a profitable channel.
Agree 💯
Agree this channel could be huge
😢😢😢
Agree. Record more, post more, make more money. I'm tired of the "lets get it started" videos and nothing else to them.
Very true. He isn’t afraid of a challenge.
I've watched every minute of every one of your videos...they all leave me totally speechless! Total admiration for your expertise and your willing less to get "in too deep" and fso! Huge respect!! Can't wait for the next one!
Cause you are fulfilling my dreams and I am 75 years. Old so keep up the good work god bless❤
Them cuttlefish bearings had Tobe very tough. Grate job getting passed it Gus congratulations to all your success ❤!!
Hi Gus, just ran into your channel “In Too Deep”. The name got my attention and for the last few hours, I just couldn't stop watching and was so touched I wanted say, Thank You! I think somewhere along life’s journey we can identify and that’s where I am now. Sad, I missed you guys in Savannah, Ga, would love to have met you and given a hand. Until keep up the great work. --Art
Awesome channel and great work on the old girl. You’ve got some great skills there. Looking forward to following along. The one thing I’d say being an older fart who has seen some pretty nasty workplace injuries - don’t shortchange yourself on the protective equipment. You’ve got only one set of lungs, eyes, ears, and limbs. Protect yourself and your buddies properly and you won’t be wondering at 50 why you can’t breathe, hear, or see properly. That will seem a long way away to you at your age, but it’s coming. I feel like I was your age just yesterday...Cheers!
Typical of all haul out projects it never is a long enough time frame. My boat is old, although 20 years newer than Bella, and every time I haul I usually find something like you did with the prop shafts. If you figure a week you need two, or a month you need 2 months. I love the name of your channel it sums up all boat owning!
So awesome you’re living life to the fullest bud.
What a summer of work, can’t wait to come along on the journey south
I applaud a bloke with your skills and obviously some money. Don't stop videos and any redesigning you do if it is not patented make sure you take out a pattern on your new designs.
I’m 26 and almost done redoing my 42 commander right now, cool to see others doing the same
Hi Gus,
I just found your channel two or three days ago, the first part of your journey video (Miami to Maine) randomly showed up in my YT feed, so I clicked on it, watched both episodes in a row and just right now finished watching this video.
And I have to say it: Man, those three videos were a pleasure to watch! 🙏
I do have the utmost respect for all the blood, work, sweat and money you put into making Bella pretty again, and it pays off big time in my opinion. You know, I‘ve never been into the maritime world at all, I‘ve done a few short vacation boat trips with my parents (we chartered a 52ft MY for 10 days, back in 2010, 2011 and 2012) and for sure, it was a blast. But since then I‘ve had nothing to do with boats or boating.
But I really can appreciate and respect the passion you do have for boats and for especially for Bella. 😍
A BEAUTIFUL ship ❤️❤️❤️, I really like the look of her and I would have never ever guessed her age by the first shots I saw from her. She aged really well 🥴🙏
I definitely will enjoy the other videos of her and you so I‘m really glad and happy to have found your channel, I subscribed immediately after the first „Miami to Maine video“.
All the best to you and Bella, I‘m really looking forward to watch the next episode about you and your beautiful MY Bella 🙏
With best wishes from Germany 🇩🇪, Philipp 👋
EDIT: I do hope my English „skills“ were good enough to let you understand what I tried to write in this comment 🥴🫣😀
Same here!
Such a nice and thoughtful comment. Thank you for posting this for all to read. So well written, simply awesome.
Gus, it's so fun watching a young guy going after what he wants...keep the vids coming! Bella Rose is looking my-T-fyne!
like catface, I'm 81 and keeping up with my 67 Glasspar . i've also owned for 11 years a 65 Owens Contessa. Total restoration on that boat that I truly miss. Keep up the great video's.
81 looking 55 - stay young sir.
She is one beautiful boat. Your doing a great job. Thank you for saving her. Best Wishes!
You have an amazing talent. You are a true artist. I am really enjoying these videos.
My head is spinning with all the projects you have to do on this boat and your initiative to get them complete!
Just watched the whole video....I'm exhausted! Love the trick putting the bearing in the toaster oven and the nitrogen from the canned air container.
Bella Rose has some beautiful lines on her, lovely name for an old lady, and she has some speed to her with her new running gear, wow really loved what you done to her in getting her ship shape again
No doubt you've been one busy man. That prank throwing a body in the dumpster was hilarious. LOL and I know from experience there's never a dull moment when traveling by boat, which is all good because you'll have a lifetime of memories
The joys of a major refit. I have a 1996 Albin 32+2 that was mothballed and put into storage early 2007. All systems were working at the time of mothballing however I hate to imagine what it needs now. Topsides and hull have cleaned up very nicely with first a strong dishwashng liquid followed by a bleach/water 1-1 combo to to kill off any remaining organic growth on gelcoat. Worked well. Just completed the hull today with 3M cleaner wax. Remarkable comeback. Do it again with Mequires Flagship and it will almost look like factory.
The interior will be another story. Engine should come out also for a thorough going over.
The level of respect I have for you words cannot describe.
I'm a 73 yr old greatgrandma. I LOVE YOUR POSTS!!! ❤I have a passion for mechanics, and your channel satisfies that love. I worked for 30 years for Newport News, and then GE turbines manufacturing as a draftsman before CAD. I wish I could do it all over again. THANKS FOR THE VIDEOS! I'll buy some merchandise. 👍
Please wear protective gear when working with fiberglass and all those chemicals!
Great video with all your hard work.
I had a 42' 1974 Hatteras Sportfish and the boat was built like a Sherman tank. Many boats that fall over during a hurricane would be totalled. This is a tribute to how well Hatteras made their yachts!
I've tried prop speed and many other methods and it all comes off if you run the boat long distances.
Amazing, I'm exhausted just watching the video!
Love thre trip Miami (my home town) to Maine. What a great trip.
Dude, you are the Michaelangelo of fiberglass. Much respect to your abilities, perseverance, patience, imagination, just remarkable.
Hello Gus happen to find you and spent all morning watching your vids. When we found out you were only 23 yrs.old, we were blown away at the responsibilities you had taken on. We have a 87 412t. AMEROSPORT CHRISCRAFT THAT we picked up a few yrs ago and let me tell you, if there was anybody we would trust sailing her down to Florida, you would be the person we would trust to bring her there. You are extremely gifted with your responsibilities and to see somebody so young and enthusiastic with a passion like yours is something to be celebrated! We love your videos and the work you've put into them! Love the music as well. Hope to follow you on more of your adventures. The Bella Rose ahhhh a classic so happy to see that you brought her back!👍👏👏👏👏 love from Ontario 🇨🇦!
Always look forward to your video’s Gus and it seems I’m far from alone. Whatever you’re doing you’ve hit on something with these. Very proud for you and everything you’ve accomplished.
I absolutely love your videos. Your depth of knowledge, talent and ingenuity combined with your work ethic and sense of humor are a joy to watch. Bella Rose is beautiful and I can’t wait for the next video of your trip down South!
Much respect for your skills, you gonna have a nice home forever
Really great to see you back. Just wish you could do more video. But I do understand.
What a beautiful boat.
Quite an undertaking but doable. Being a prairie dweller I sure miss the boating and open water. Keep up the videos.
Hey!! woaw.i'm not even a boater, and i'm captivated by your channel and your skills applied to fixing boats like that. that is an amazing channel.
You're a veteran buddy.. great to listen and watch ch while works ng on my 78 42' unflite sportfisher. . You carry a great attitude. Thank you 😁
Great to see you again! Wonderful work! Congratulations!
Can't get enough of these videos inspired to go and grind for what I want your smart as hell
Great Job! I was a Engineman 1st class in the US NAVY. I am impressed with your ability and knowledge of the different systems and subsystems. Good job! Or what we say in the service Brovo Zulu.
Dude, you are amazing and so young! You have a real future in this industry. Stay on coarse.
Dude, you are really talented. Your abilities to fix repair and replace are remarkable. Keep up the good work and I will keep on watching your videos.
Second the thought. UA-cam must like this channel and promote. My introduction to the channel and I subscribed. Not bad for the extent of blisters coming out of the late 60s into the next ten years. Builders and material makers were still figuring out the combos. This Top Hat is a lot better than the Uniflights of the same vintage.
This is the type of guy who will not cut corners regardless of timeline or money. If this yacht ever goes for sale, someone will be getting a very great deal. Nice work, dude. I can't stop watching your vids lol
first time watching love it you are good at what you do i will be watching thanks most interesting
SO happy to see you and your boat again and once again...a FABULOUS video. Cannot wait for the next one. Best wishes from Cape Town.🛥🎉
Thank you.
Amazing posts.
Unbelievable work ethic.
Stay healthy.
Nice work Gus, you inspire productivity!
Loving these laundered and detailed videos
Please keep creating and sharing
Bella rose is such a pretty boat

Hey Gus, miss you, she a big girl and your boat projects are plentiful, she is amazing and will amazingly a Hatteras! Checking out the merch, lots of luck and keep us up on the refit😎👍
what an adventure, I'm envious
Wild ride Gus. Hold on tight and enjoy the ride
Now you need to re-target that Port shaft ! I worked with lasers in construction for years before they were used in marine applications. Namely, targeting shafts. I had just started working for Derecktor Marine, It was called Derecktor Gunnell back then. When they sent me to the next yard over (Lauderdale Prop) to show them how to set up and target shafts and cutlass bearings using a laser. Like everyone else at the time, they were still using the old Piano Wire method ! That was in 1984.
I.m 70..keeping up with my 50 year old searay is about all i can do..great job..bravo..i look at fantastic sometimes free projects and just have to keep walking..good luck captain !
Hey safety first! I learn so much.
There are viewers and doers. You young sir are a doer, "good on ya."
Gus, all the rust stains you can get bc rid of it with pool acid aka Muriatic acid great job on the glass work. Im getting every thing ready to do my transom on my 82Wellcraft
Sportsman 248 with my08 Evinrude 300 etec
I live about 3 miles from Wayne Beal. That thing was modified on the bow and the house. They are good work boats for sure.
You remind me of my son. he is your age and also a marine mechanic. Like you he is not afraid to to tackle any job and do whatever is needed to get the job done. You are very impressive!.
Thanks for the new video love watching them
You are working so hard on your boat. I feel quite confident that you will finish with quality labor.
Gus! Found your channel just recently and I’m getting caught up on all your endeavours and I’m absolutely blown away with your skill set at 23-24 years old it’s unbelievable. I’m 48 and I’m am very skilled at a lot of things but my man you got me beat in spades! You my friend are an incredible young man! I’ll be supporting all of your videos!
I hope you had your props and shafts checked for balance...keep up the good work.
Glad to see you back buddy!!!
Can you belief this guy does all this. Inspirational.
Nice work 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽
Absolutely MASSIVE undertaking. But, what a beautiful boat, and a satisfying labor of love.
Im so happy for you! Bella Rose looks fantastic. I hope you are proud of what you have accomplished. Because although you make it look easy.. It is the exact opposite haha. Many years from now you will look back on these videos and smile ear to ear. I am 41 and wish that I had filmed my big projects from my 20's. Keep up the great work. A little advice. Try to keep up with 2 videos a month and before you know it you will be getting that Play button!
Gus, another great video. Wow, you did a LOT of rehab on Bella Rose. Those are incredibly long prop shafts! Great work getting 55-year old cutlass bearings and other running gear out and reinstalled. Really fun to share your adventure, setbacks, progress and hard work.
Wow mad respect man, I thought I was insane for buying a 41' 1972 Concorde motor yacht and fixing it up, but you went in even deeper. Your skills are insane, I one day hope to get up to half the adventures you have! Cheers from Canada
Another great video, Gus!
Thanks for sharing!
You should Be really proud of yourself with all your accomplishments!
You take “Messing about on boats” to another level
Very much looking forward to your next video as always!
Matt
Your videos are fantastic - so entertaining, really interesting look into a slice maritime life, travels and places I'd never otherwise not see, and you have a great charm and charisma.
You are truly Master and Genius too. I selude you
Glad to see you posting again! Looks like you were busy over the last six months. Nice work getting the boat ready!
You are a hustle master. Looking forward to the next upload. Hopefully it is not a short one?
So great to see you at it again......missed watching your videos.....I hope since I am watching you in January 24 you are down in Florida......
Good for man.
Love your adventures
Thank you Gus for sharing your journey. You are an Amazing young man. Safe and healthy travels
Working for a marina a great Idea. I worked part-time at a car dealership, lots of work on my car
I'm glad to see you have a new video out this morning It is really wonderful to see how you're progressing with your experiences. I can't wait to see what the next episode will be Thanks again
Seeing you do all that stuff makes me want to start doing renovations on my boat (compared to yours mine is a dinghy :D ) great and professional work youre doing!
You’re a beast man. Unreal. Mad respect brother
Can't wait to see the upcoming videos.
great job!
Gus!! I just had to comment to say how much I admire you. I am most impressed with your vocabulary, lol. You know the term for every single item on the boat "shaft log tubes" and so on. I am learning a TON just based on your casual conversation explaining what every component is and what it does. Me thinks your an incredible smart, high IQ dude with your vocab. I am just devouring your content and learning a ton. I hope you inspire other young people to ditch the grind and being glued to a phone and get out there to push themselves and enjoy experiences just like you are. Anyway, stay humble and continue to be a great guy!!
Lube for the bearing !
Next time consider getting your shafts nickel, or chrome plated. Or even lazer hardened. It is amazing what modern machine shops can do.
You did a impressive amount of work in the amount of time you had
All I can say is you’re my hero because I’m telling you I just don’t believe I could ever do what you’re doing. Great job keep up the good work I enjoyed the channel love your content.
Best boat channel on UA-cam
Gus Love your videos , Your a very smart guy,
Love when you post!
